WELCOME

A Message From The Pastor… Dear Brothers and Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel,

The weather this month has been chilly and rainy, but our hearts are as warm and bright as ever. There are many illustrations why this is so.

We celebrated another Holy Week with extra joy this year, topped by the fact that we welcomed nine more members into our Catholic Church family on Holy Saturday. A week after that we confirmed 44 students into the fullness of faith as we celebrated Confirmation with Bishop Flesey. Then, for the past two Saturdays we shared Holy Eucharist for the first time with another 48 parish children.

The families of all these young people and children beamed with joy at these sacred moments. We, as their Church family, breathed a sigh of satisfaction – another year of proud sacramental initiation. Our mission is carrying on. Thanks be to God and every person who made all these triumphs possible.

This year there is one more major event to highlight in this month of May. Our joint service this afternoon with members of Temple Sinai is a unique event. We will gather, we will pray, we will reflect, we will discuss and we will break bread together with brothers and sisters and Tenafly neighbors from Temple Sinai.

In terms of local Church history, this is historic. Two proud religious communities will acknowledge our histories and reach out to one another from roots of our common humanity and our desire to be peacemakers on this earth.

Let us be at peace with one another and all God’s world this day!

CATHOLIC HEART WORK CAMP FUNDRAISER

Thank you to everyone for your support of Catholic Heart Work Camp. As you know, the Catholic Heart Work Camp team is collecting funds to support the teens from our parish who will be attending Catholic Heart Work Camp in June. Catholic Heart Work Camp is an opportunity for our teens to be involved in social projects in a Catholic environment where they will get to meet teens from other parts of the U.S.

Donations are still being accepted. Sponsor forms are available at the back of the church. Every person who signs up and who gives $10 or more will be invited to a social after our return so that you can see pictures taken during the week, and to have a chance to talk to the teens who took part in the week. Donations should be made through the regular Mass collection (in a clearly marked envelope) or dropped off at the Church Office. Please make checks payable to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and note in the memo line “CHWC.” Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

What is RCIA? Is RCIA for You?

The Church welcomes into the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults process of preparation persons who have never been baptized, those already baptized in another Christian tradition, or baptized Catholics who have not received First Eucharist or Confirmation. The celebration of Christian initiation takes place at the Easter Vigil liturgy. A combined total of 110 boxes of cereal and 10 bags of groceries were received from the community of OLMC. These gifts greatly relieve the need to purchase a relatively expensive item (cereal, which is so important to families in the morning to start their days) and help stock our pantry shelves.

Your continued support of our mission is very much appreciated, especially as we approach the summer months when donations generally decline as schools close and people leave for vacations. The need, of course, is year-round.
