Saint Cecilia Singers
Saturday 2 March 2019 at Gloucester Cathedral
70th birthday celebration
A free concert for supporters old and new
Former choir members are warmly invited to sing Evensong with the choir at 4.30pm
followed by Sparkling Afternoon Tea in the Chapter House at 5.30pm. Then friends and
supporters can enjoy a free concert in the Cathedral Nave at 7pm. The programme will
be Duruflé’s Requiem accompanied by organist Christopher Allsop, alongside a selection
of pieces performed at the Singers’ inaugural concerts on 17th February 1949 and
18th June 1950.
The concert marks the start of a year of celebration to include a concert and Evensong
at the Three Choirs Festival in July and a new commission by composer Neil Cox to be
performed in the spring of 2020.
Admission to Evensong and the concert is free. Tickets for afternoon tea are £7.50 with
a celebratory glass of fizz. Previous members wishing to sing Evensong can sign up via the
website www.saintceciliasingers.org.uk.
The Saint Cecilia Singers is Gloucester Cathedral’s chamber choir - an auditioned
choir of around 30 enthusiastic and gifted amateur and semi-professional singers. It
performs up to six concerts per year including an annual Christmas concert at
Gloucester Cathedral as well as taking part in the Cathedral Choirs Days and occasional
Evensongs. In 2016, the choir performed the world premiere of Philip Lancaster’s War
Passion, commissioned by the Three Choirs Festival.

Support the Glory of Music
Choral music has been an integral part of Cathedral life for almost 500 years and
breathes life into our wonderful building and brings joy to us all.
In Gloucester we are rightly proud of our musicians and the quality of our choirs.
If you wish to keep our choral tradition alive, please support our choirs.
The Youth Choir, Junior Choir, boy and girl choristers all depend on your support.
Help Cathedral music to thrive by making a donation or leaving a gift in your will or by
becoming a Music Patron for as little as £10 a month.
If you would like more information about supporting music at Gloucester Cathedral,

many interesting events.
