Project’s Results:

•The integration of biosafety refers to its incorporation into sectoral and intersectoral laws, policies and institutions.

•Integration means adopting a coordinated approach for the implementation of the Cartagena Protocol and the Convention on Biological DiversityConvention on Biological Diversity.

•Integration must take into account actors, circumstances, laws and national priorities.

•The integration of biosafety is considered key to access the resources needed to develop biosafety activities and for the application of the Protocol as recognized by the governing body meeting of the Protocol, Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties (COP‐MOP).

Recommendations:

•Need for competent national authorities to prepare themselves to undertake activities to detect GMOs in 

Venezuela

•Need to generate a detection system for GMOs that may be entering the country

•The vision and progress in Venezuela will depend on the continuous work, the union of the wills and the 

approach with the relevant actors.

Challenges and Lessons Learned:

•Generate awareness programs, with a view to educating, promoting public participation and awareness, involving all related sectors, including non‐governmental organizations, academic sector, community councils, popular power, consumers, producers and farmers, among others.

•Contribute to the collection of basic information to implement national plans that involve all sectors competent and related to the biosafety of GMOsand related to the biosafety of GMOs.

•Conduct workshops with the participation of authorities f bli d i i i d i f hfrom public and private entities and representatives of the organized community in general.
