NC State Convention Albemarle, NC April 30, 2016 Our council meeting is the 2nd
Saturday in the months of June, September, January, and March.
Chapters or individuals members who host our Council Meetings usually furnish
lunch, but this is not required. If you or your chapter would like to have a covered dish
that is fine, just let us know so we may let the members know they need to bring
something. As we always inform all members before a council meeting if they need to
bring something, which everyone is happy to do.
We want to include all members in the decision-making process as well as use your
ideals of where you would like to see our organization go in the future. We do not want
our state or origination to go stale. I have always said that it takes a combination of all
our time, talents, and abilities to keep our great state of NC growing and on tract for the
future. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated just contact Krystal Stone.
If you think of a column for our newsletter just let us know or is there something you
would like to see us do differently at our convention? Any suggestions will be greatly
appreciated. You as individual members or chapters officers are not required to attend
any meetings but we encourage that you do so this is where we conduct our business so
when we get to the State Convention we can have fun; also you get ideas from other
chapters and bond with other members. The council meets quarterly hosted by different
OCR Chapters or individual members in different parts of our state.

activities (Confederate or not). Email to [email protected]
Our children are the future and we must start grooming then to
take responsibly on keeping the memories of our Confederate
ancestors alive. This is indeed a serious responsibility, as most
in the outside community would like us to forgotten.
A charge to not only the parents, grandparents, but the
entire membership of the NCOCR to inspire to instill in our
Rosebud members a sense of understanding, appreciation and
pride in southern history and traditions; and to honor those who
sacrificed so much in defense of their southern homeland.
Rosebud members are encouraged to participate in education,
benevolent and social functions as well as historical
preservation with their peers. They are also encouraged to
attend OCR and SCV meetings and functions. However, this is
not required.
The Little Rose Buds Program is for children birth to 9 years
of age. Once the child turns 10 they can officially join the
Order of Confederate Rose as a full member. All children
mature differently therefore it is up to the parent’s discretion as
to whether the child is mature enough for this step. We
encourage each parent to do what you think is best for your
child/family. Please keep in mind these children are the future
of the Confederacy

unselfishly of their time, talents and abilities for the cause. I know it is impossible to attend every meeting, event or
function. A chapter accepts the responsibilities and commitments and should attend council meetings. Council meetings
are opened to everyone and I hope to see more attending our meetings. Open communication that makes our State strong. I have always said that anyone with in the State of North Carolina whether you are an individual member or an entire chapter, would
never be denied a voice or an opportunity to present your opinions and/or recommendations in making new policy and/or changing
old ones. We also do not want anyone to say that you or your chapter have not been informed as to what goes on in the
NCOCR, this is why communications are so important. Whether it is “The Carolina Rose, VirtualRose, we try to keep you
a breast of what’s happening. Not everyone has email, so it up to the chapter president or an assigned person to see that all
members within your chapter are informed of any communications. (State Convention continued on page7)

Web Mistress & Virtual Rose
Web/Social Media: Anne Willis – Web/Social Media and Virtual Rose
Like all of NCOCR the Website is your site, and I am just the keeper. I would love to have a lot more participation from our
Active Chapters. We can’t publish upcoming events if we don’t know about them. None of us that I know of has ESP. While
it does take a little time to insert items into the Webpage our Facebook page normally can be fairly quick tool for
communication between the chapters in our state. Thinks we can do with the website tools are mass mailings for example the
Virtual Rose. Email addresses for Members that end in @NCOCR.ORG for that more professional look. Individual Chapter
Pages, with your information linked off the main page so that interested individuals can find a chapter in their area. Email me
with any item you want to spread to the NCOCR, and we’ll get it out on the Web/Social Media or Virtual Rose ASAP. This is
your page I just administer suggestions are welcome. Anne Willis [email protected]

March 19 OCR/MOSB joint meeting. Linda Lashley, Yvonne Brown
(husband Larry: center)
What an exciting year we are having! Two members of the OCR
Wilmington Chapter attended the 2nd annual Ft. Fisher Descendants
and Friends Reunion in Carolina Beach on January 16. Yvonne
Brown and Linda Lashley met keynote speaker Diane Richard, who
was featured on a segment of the TV program, “Who Do You Think
You Are“ and Rodd Gragg, author. Our 1st OCR meeting of the year
was held jointly with the Military Order of the Stars and Bars on
March 19, with officers elected: Yvonne Brown, President and
Linda Lashley, Secretary. The MOSB requested help from the OCR
with their newsletter, and Linda will now be co-editor, with space
allocated to the OCR for our news, as well. President Yvonne
Brown’s husband, Larry, gave a riveting presentation on Brigadier
General Archibald Godwin, who was appointed the 2nd
Commandant over Salisbury Prison before he requested to leave to
fight in the field. Our chapter was also asked to assist with
entertainment for the MOSB National Convention in 2017, which
will be held in Wilmington. Linda is planning a tour of historic
Oakdale Cemetery. Two of our members, Brenda Shadrick and
Linda Lashley, made a two-hour trip to Goldsboro on April 9 to
join other OCR Mourning Ladies to participate in a re-dedication of
the grave of Jared K. White, a Terry’s Texas Ranger. Sister
descendants from Texas and Alabama had requested "Black Roses"
to attend and were delighted at the turnout from several towns.
April 19 came along and was particularly enjoyable as OCR ladies
visited a home for low-income seniors. Every resident appeared to
thoroughly enjoy the program, especially Yvonne's demonstration
of smuggling goods thru the Union lines via secret pockets sewn
onto her hoops. Other OCR members presenting were Brenda

Military Service Cross on behalf of their Dad, a deceased combat
veteran. OCR Mourning Ladies paying their respects were Black
Rose Society founder Yvonne Brown, Brenda Shadrick, Linda

Pauline Mosby Northern Maryland Chapter #52
Two of our members, Lori Rhodes and Sheron Wilson, attended the
Maryland State SCV Convention with their husbands. We enjoyed
the meeting and learned from the SCV. Sheron and her husband,
Talmadge, toured Camp Lookout and visited the memorials to the
men who died there. We have prepared a slate of new officer
nominees and election will take place at our next called meeting. A
new roster has also been compiled and will be forwarded, along
with the list of new officers, to NCORC very soon.
The spring Walkersville Train Raid reenactment is scheduled for
June 4th. We have chapter informational fliers prepared by our
secretary Brittany Centner which we will hand out to "civilian"
passengers. Hopefully, we will have many opportunities to educate
the public about our heritage preservation efforts. We continue to
support our sponsoring SCV chapter, Border State Rangers Camp
2202. Mary Ann Montgomery Forrest Chapter #53
The ladies of Mary Ann Montgomery Forrest Chapter 53 are
continuing to do great things within our communities. We are
currently collecting backpacks and school supplies for children who
need a helping hand this year. We will stuff each book bag collected
with supplies needed for their school year. We were honored to
attend and participate in a Rededication service honoring Jared K.
White, a Texas Ranger. We also participated at the legislator day in
Raleigh, meeting and greeting several representatives. While in
Raleigh we also laid a wreath at the capital in honor of fallen
soldiers. We were happy to be able to participate. We're looking
forward to the Memorial Day Parade in Thomasville on May 30th.
