It seems at the moment that they are coming hard and fast. The proposed changes in the obedience regulations have everyone talking. Opinions, both pro and con, are being passionately ex- pressed. Canine Legislation aimed at Trainers!!

While this is not in Washington State it should cause some alarm since there are so many copy cat dog laws across the country.

Please take the time to read this and consider what the impact it might be on you as a trainer.

WSOTC THANKSGIVING TRIAL REPORT FOR CANINE POST 11/15/17 As I write this we are just a few days away from our three obedience and three rally trials. Thanks to a great com-mittee and trial secretary, everything is going well! Here is a link to the events page of Theresa Calter’s website. From there you can find our Judging Program: http://www.k9eventsnw.com/events/akc-obedience-rally-trials-wsotc/ Judging Programs were mailed to exhibitors on Tuesday, November 14. If you entered and did not receive one, contact Theresa at [email protected].

All of these trials are dedicated to the memory of Janine Prindle, long-time club member.

Here’s how our entries look:

Obedience Trial #1 on Friday (Sue Cox, judge) has a total of 58 dogs entered.

Obedience Trial #2 on Friday (John Cox, judge) has a total of 57 dogs entered.

Saturday’s Obedience Trial (Novice classes only with John Cox, judge) has a total of 50 dogs entered.

Saturday’s Rally Trial (Debbie Addicoat, judge) has a total of 74 dogs entered.

Rally Trial #1 on Sunday (Sue Cox, judge) has a total of 79 entered.

Rally Trial #2 on Sunday (Debbie Addicoat, judge) has a total of 70 entered.

We are having an exhibitors’ potluck every day; the club is providing sandwich fixings and we ask participants to bring a salad or dessert to share. Ribbons and rosettes have been ordered and received. Club equipment (jumps, coffee pot, etc.) is being delivered to Family Dog next week by Don Rennick.

There will be an exhibitors/judges dinner on Friday night (nearby Thai restaurant) and Saturday night (nearby steak/All-American). Sign up at the trial.

Our Whiner’s Raffle is also back. Pick up a ticket for each NQ you receive and we’ll be drawing for a bottle of Mill Lane Wine at the conclusion of each trial.

A huge thank you to my co-chair, Ingrida Robinson, and Theresa Calter of K9EventsNW for being a great secretary. More thanks to the rest of the committee members: Chief Ring Steward, Amanda Buse; Potluck, Shelley Timbers & Veronica Ness; Neil Evans, judges daytime hospitality; Awards & Ribbons, Judy Peterson (and Ingrida Robinson).

Thanks to everyone who offered to steward. Thanks to Amanda for being willing to work with several newbies that I sent her way, hoping to get more folks “hooked” on our great sport.

I am sorry that some of the club members who waited several weeks after our published open date were unable to get into the obedience trials on Friday. Friday’s trials filled quickly, and Theresa Calter also had several folks on her waiting list.

The facility will be prepped next week, and the mats have been cleaned and re-sealed so there is a nice surface for jumping, heeling and retrieving. The facility will open at 7:00 am each day. Judging starts at 9:00 am each day.

I am looking forward to the trials -- and getting some rest after they are over! (My new puppy will also be glad when they are over and I have more time for him!) I would also request that club members plan to help with clean up after-wards; that certainly helps make the weekend end on a more positive note.

Send me your photos. I can fill the pages with Papillons but I know our members have other breeds to brag about!

Brags & Fun With our Dogs!

At the “young at heart” age of 10.5+ years, Nahkohe earned her PCDX title on October 22nd, 2017, at the Wenatchee Kennel Club trial. This was Nahkohe’s retiring Obedience title. It has been a great Obedience journey with this fun and “beats to her own drum”

dog. She has been a wonderful ambassador for both rescued dogs and her breed. We are now playing with Tracking and Nose Work, as well as attending Rally classes for fun. Nordic

The Fall/Winter weather is here in the NW and unless you have a training building or like to get wet, a lot of us are indoors reading a book. If you are like me, I love good but funny dog mystery

books. So when it’s raining cats and dogs, try out one of these books! One of my favorite is a renowned Cardigan Corgi breeder-author named Karen Harbert. I have

listed all her books to date here. While she is a longtime breeder and her fame is in Conformation, she does have Obedience titles on her Corgis and intertwines this into her

mysteries. Her books are available in Kindle format on Amazon. ~ Editor ~

1) Final Entry 2) False Papers 3) Death March 4) Brat Pack 5) Oh Canada 6) Pupsicles 7) Calculated Risk 8) Flash Flood 9) A Walk on the Wild Side 10) Fifteen Shades of Merle 11) Just Desert 12) Under the Tucson Sun 13) Dog-Tagged 14) Medium Rare 15) Maritime Summer (To be released soon)

Karen would love any plot suggestions for future books.

Her books are easy fast reads and ideal for cold evenings!. You can find more about her on— http://aelwydcwc.com/Aelwyd.htm

(I have no financial interests here.)
