ALSDVS President

Welcome to the new reality – tight budgets, shrinking number of “willing and able” volunteers, expanded service needs, less time, more work. We are all facing unprecedented choices. How do you rise to these challenges? How can you improve your services rather than cut them?

Feel like you need help?

The members of ALSDVS are an excellent source of ideas and inspirations to help you not only survive, but thrive in this new reality. Tap in to the network of knowledge by coming to the Mid-Winter Conference. Can’t wait until then? Call one of the members. The officers’ names and phone numbers are in this newsletter. They may not know the answer, but they could point you in the right direction!

This new reality has Jamie Weeks and the Education Committee working even harder to modify the Mid-Winter Conference. They realize how hard it will be to commit your valuable time and restricted budget to next February’s conference. Don’t be tempted to miss it. You will miss too much! It is for precisely the “times like these” that we must pull together! It is always the BEST conference at the LOWEST price.

ALSDVS Hosts Reception for SDVSHO

Alabama was on display as we welcomed the SDVSHO to Mobile this spring. ALSDVS hosted a welcome reception to kick-off the festivities. The reception was well attended by Directors and Gift Shop Managers from as far away as Michigan. It was a great time to network and eat!

ALSDVS Mid-Winter Conference Thanks to all of you who completed the survey that the Education Committee sent out this spring. The results were compiled and are being used to help plan the 2010 conference. At your request, the Education Committee and the Executive Board, made the decision to move the 2010 conference to a more central location within the state and shorten it to a 3 day conference. Hopefully these changes will allow more ALSDVS members to be able to attend. Your ideas for topics have gone in to helping plan what will be a great educational opportunity for new as well as seasoned DVS’s. Workshop topics will include a train the trainer session on Customer Service for Volunteers, the GO System (Get Organized), and a networking session to include Program Ideas, Volunteer Recruitment and Volunteer Recognition. We are also hoping to have a webinar through the American Society. Brochures will be mailed out later this fall but mark your calendar and make plans to attend!
