It’s hard to believe that just under a year ago I wrote my first Station Manager column. In

that column I said I would have a good name for you all by the time I completed my term. Unfortunately, still nothing quite rings a bell. I guess friends will have to do :) Anyways, I want to thank you all for making this past year one my most rewarding yet.

Nothing puts a smile on my face more than walking into a meeting or a staffer party and seeing a full room. My main goal in my elections presentation last year was entitled, “A Sta-

tion for the Staffer.” While the small steps we’ve taken may not be evident at first glance, I really think we have become a more staffer-orientated organization. What would The Buzz be without our wonderful DJs waking up early on weekends for their shows, staying up late on school nights to pick their playlists and chatting with our listeners during each mic break? What would The Buzz be without our dedicated staffers coming to meetings as often as they can, contrib-uting ideas and helping our departments accomplish their goals. Without you all, The Buzz wouldn’t be anywhere close to the top-five college radio stations in the country. I’m so proud of our staffers and board of directors for all we’ve accomplished in 2015. I’m confident my fellow

newsy and great friend Natalie Kucko will do a great job leading you next year. Before I pass on the torch for good, I’d like to see all of you, even more than last semester, at our staffer party on

December 12 at 11 a.m. We’ll be giving out awards for show and staffer of the semester. Let’s end 2015 the right way, celebrating the year and enjoying pizza.

To our dedicated staffers,Thank you all so much for your hard work and great stories this semes-

ter. It’s so hard for us all to say goodbye, as each of us will be leaving the Board at the end of this semester. We’re really proud of all that you’ve accomplished this semester with the blog and The Buzzworthy. The Public Realtions department has really come a long way over the years and it’s thanks to staffers like you.Though we’ve all been here for different semesters (Allie, 8; Morgan, 3;

Bri 2), we each feel a strong connection to The Buzz and the PRRR Dept. and are so sad to leave. However, we plan on leaving our department in great hands and believe whomever we hire will continue to take the depart-ment and The Buzzworthy to new heights.

We invite our P.R. staffers and all other depart-ments’ staffers to join us Saturday, Dec. 12 at 11:30 a.m. in RC 211 & 213 for our annual Staffer Party to show our appreciation. Also, please root on The Buzz at our annual Buzz vs BV basketball game in the Richter Center at 4 p.m.Again, thank you all so much! We’ve had a wonder-

ful time working with you and wish you all the best.

Adele- 25 (November 18th)When 25’s first single “Hello” dropped out of the sky, this album became the most anticipated of 2015. With everyone talking about the song and the upcoming album, there was no doubt that 25 would be an international success. With this recent release, Adele has brought back her power-house vocals mixed with her moving lyrics in another successful attempt to capture the hearts of the world.

Drake- If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late(February 13th)Drake comes back with his fourth album — but by surprise. Drake decidedly released this album without any prior notice, and it did quite well. None of the songs are deliberately created for the radio, but it has improved lyrically, and he pulls back from huge radio singles to reflect back on his career and other personal encounters.

Ellie Goulding- Delirium(November 6th)Goulding returns with another incredible pop album. With her pop ballad “Love Me Like You Do” contributing to the 50 Shades soundtrack, Goulding was in the midst of creating Delirium and dropping the radio-popular single “On My Mind.” This album strengthens Ellie Goulding as a very relevant pop artist, and each of the songs has a different energy to it.

Fetty Wap- Fetty Wap(September 25th)Having his debut album find so much success, Fetty Wap is definitely an artist to watch. “Trap Queen” and “Again,” two of his most notable singles from his album, dominated the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and drew attention to his story and album. With a definite groove to each song, he brings a unique sound to today’s music.

Fifth Harmony- Reflection(January 26th)Fifth Harmony has created a mature sound, with many of their songs off of Reflection sounding like they would be heard in a club or blasting on the radio. Songs like “Worth It” and “BO$$” playing constantly on the radio, giving their girl group right of way officially into the pop scene. Each song is just as catchy as the next, and you’ll find yourself singing their choruses everywhere, especially in the shower.

Justin Bieber- Purpose(November 13th)Purpose marks the big return after Bieber’s three year break, and he definitely has showed growth and improvement. Collaborating with multiple different artists, he comes back with stronger vocals and lyrics, another album you will find yourself blasting in the car. Purpose was manufactured towards a big tour and dominated the radio stations, and it has been successful because of the big sound each song gives off.

Lana Del Rey- Honeymoon(September 18th)Lana Del Rey released this album with many successful singles already released: “High by the Beach,” “Music to Watch Boys To,” and the title song “Honeymoon.” Lana’s sound remains quite similar, but her unique voice continues to drive her into the spotlight. Her alternative sound with Honeymoon is great for a change of genre.

One Direction- Made in the A.M.(November 13th)One Direction has produced their best work yet with their fifth studio album. Because of their upcoming break and the recent departure of Zayn, the rest of the boys sat down to create a more personal album for themselves and for their fans. This album

was not created for stadium touring or huge pop numbers, it was created entirely for their fans. From Fleetwood Mac to The Beatles, there are many different influences they use to round each song out. They have come a long way since their 2011 “What Makes You Beautiful” days, and each and every song is meaningful and enjoyable.

Twenty One Pilots- Blurryface(May 15th)Blurryface brings a unique sound to Alt-Pop. Each song has its own sound, but equally intriguing and catchy. The single “Tear in My Heart” is the most pop-like on the album, but it still adds to their unique sound and songwriting skills. As they rise to become more and more popular, their music continues to grab the attention of a bigger audience.

5 Seconds of Summer- Sounds Good Feels Good(October 23rd)Sounds Good Feels Good is exactly how it sounds. The members of 5SOS have shown great maturity with their sophomore album. The Aussie group have put hard work into writing SGFG, and this album has become a much more personal experience for them. The first single “She’s Kinda Hot” has captured the public’s attention because of its Green Day-esque sound, and their upcoming single “Jet Black Heart” brings a powerful message and melody. Each song is different to define, as each is more and more musically complex.

Liam McGurlFetty WapWhile the 24-year-old rapper’s single “Trap Queen”—which

served as a catalyst to a pop-culture-reference-based movement—debuted in the fall of 2014, his career really kicked off in the past year. It’s safe to say “Trap Queen” was written off as both the start and

end of Fetty’s career early on, but Fetty—born Willie Maxwell II—proved his artistry with “679.” The Remy Boyz collaboration topped the charts just as effortlessly as “Trap Queen,” with faster-paced lyricality and a more party-friendly beat. “My Way” and “Again” also made their way onto the Billboard

Top 100, with slightly less success, but still showed Fetty’s force in the industry. Outside of Fetty’s own success in producing hits tailored for

the charts, he’s also collaborated with some of the industries biggest successes—including French DJ-hitmaker David Guetta, “Birthday Song” singer 2Chainz and superstar Chris Brown. Fetty even toured alongside Brown, French Montana, Omarion and Kid Ink this past summer, showing his clear assimilation into the world of rhymes and rhythms.

The WeekndWhether you know The Weeknd because you’re a fan or were

unwilling scarred by his sexually charged, and immensely catchy, lyrics, it’s undeniable that he’s made his way onto your “Most Played” playlist. While the Toronto native’s “Can’t Feel My Face” was arguably

the most controversial song of the year, singles “Earned It” and “The Hills” made a tidal wave in the ever-growing pool of party music. The Weeknd’s focus on pill-popping, binge-drinking and, not-

so-safe sex might not be the most inspirational lyrical content, but it’s appropriately paired beats make for indisputably captivating tracks.

Melanie Martinez

After winning season three of “The Voice,” Martinez’s synthpop career was catapulted into gigs on the industries biggest stages and spots under the brightest of stage lights. The New York native’s metaphoric first single, “Dollhouse,” and

it’s eerie music video, received overwhelmingly positive feedback from fans, critics and strangers to Martinez’s recent mainstream popularity. The 20-year-old singer’s debut album, Cry Baby, uses childhood images as the basis for her tracks—which serve as blunt, social commentaries on everything from familial dysfunction to domestic abuse. From the disturbing carnival sounds lining “Carousel” to the

graphic lyrics of “Sippy Cup,” Martinez proves that she’s got more than a competition-winning voice—she’s a genius lyricist that can likely easily carry herself to another successful studio album.

Shawn MendesThis Viner-turned-superstar made his unconventional assimi-

lation into the pop music industry this past year with his single “Stitches,” featuring simplistic lyrics over guitar strumming—fol-lowed by a powerful Phillip Phillip’s-esque chorus. The powerhouse pop track debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot

100—landing him as the opening act for the North American leg

Travis $scott has risen through the ever-growing rap industry since early 2013, finding his spot in the “Upper Echelon” this past year with the release of Rodeo. The 23-year-old Houston native worked alongside fellow hit

maker Kanye West on Owl Pharaoh, where he first received mainstream attention with the release of “Upper Echelon.”Starting out his career working with some of the industry’s most

esteemed artists—West, T.I. and Tyga—$cott’s career elevated him to a 70,000 copy first-week-sale and a North American tour with Young Thug and Metro Boomin. On July 29, $cott released “Antidote”—peaking at No. 24 on the

Billboard Hot 100 and establishing him as a serious solo artist. With major collaboration’s, a successful first album and a U.S.

tour under his belt— it’s likely nobody will be “Pissin’ On [His Career’s] Grave” anytime soon.

This self-proclaimed “Guam Island Girl,” has been recording tracks since 2013, but claimed her spot atop the Billboard throne with her 2015 Chris Brown and Tyga collaboration “Do It Again.” Considering this was the debut single off of the 19-year-old’s first installment, it’s pretty impressive that she’s already worked with some of the biggest names in the industry. Since “Do It Again,” Mia’s released the hypersexual solo track

“Touch,” establishing herself as a successful solo artist. With major collaborations and a hit single under her belt this

year, Mia has proven that she won’t be going anywhere any time soon.

G-EazyBorn Gerald Gillum, the 26-year-old California native has been

in the music scene since early 2009—but found widespread popularity this past year. G-Eazy opened for Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz on their 2013

“America’s Most Wanted Tour” and has worked alongside artists Hoodie Allen and Shwayze. After a number of collaborations and a mildly successful mix

tape, The Endless Summer—most commonly associated with his 1961 Dion, “Runaround Sue” remake—G-Eazy released These Things Happen, earning a No. 3 spot on the Billboard 200.This past year, the fashion-friendly artist hit the stages of major

music festivals, including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Made in America and Austin City Limits. His second studio album, When It’s Dark Out—promoted by

singles “Me, Myself, and I,” “Random” and “Order More”—is set to be released on Dec. 4.With his recent skyrocket into the mainstream spotlight, it’s

likely When It’s Dark Out will be the biggest success G-Eazy is yet to see.

Travi$ Scott

Pia Mia

2015’s Breakthrough Artistsof Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour. Listed as one of “The 30 Most Influential Teens of 2015,” and

with a new collaboration alongside Fifth Harmony’s Camila Ca-bello—“I Know What You Did Last Summer”—it’s likely we’ll be hearing more from Mendes after the new year.

Best & Worst Films of 2015 Michael O’Malley

BEST WORST1. Ant-ManIt’s a Marvel Studios film – are you surprised to see it

ranked as one of the five best movies of the year? Compared to the other huge Marvel film released this year, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man stands apart not just from it but from other 2015 films for several reasons: the casting is phenomenal, with Paul Rudd especially having free reign in a vehicle that fits his acting range tremendously; the film doesn’t get muddled in itself, operating cleanly and smoothly; and, most importantly, Ant-Man does just what a film about a shrinking superhero should do – not take itself seriously. Ant-Man is fun, lighthearted, and still brilliantly executed by a studio that already has and will continue to churn out blockbuster hits for years to come.

2. Inside OutA movie where all the feelings you have are just personified

little humans inside your head. That movie, where all the feelings are voiced by real-life versions of those feelings. That movie, produced by Pixar. That’s the buildup behind Inside Out, and all of those pieces going together mesh to form a recipe for success. The voice talents are amazing – Amy Poehler is literally a walking ray of sunshine, and having her voice Joy is almost too much to handle – and the plot is completely original, engaging, and refreshing. Five feelings guide you through a complex plot that will soon have you feelings some things of your own – wonder at the spectacle before you, amazement that such a well-crafted animated movie exists, and grief when it’s over. You’ll feel it all. Haha, feeling jokes.

3. Me and Earl and the Dying GirlThey’re as common as anything – the coming-of-age

teen movie that every stereotypical teen in your old high school will see five times and cite as their favorite movie ever because of how relatable it is. We’re long past the golden age of this genre (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Breakfast Club, among others) and, for better-or-worse (but mostly for worse), these types of films pop up with no sign of stoppage. That being said, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl has something other films of the sort, including 2015’s The Duff and Paper Towns, doesn’t – maturity. A well-rounded cast, an organic plot, and a subtly to the script and direction make this adaptation stand out so far among its peers. Any movie that can completely enamor you through just a trailer is, without doubt, brilliant. I give it my highest recommendations.

1. Pitch Perfect 2A lot of people love the original Pitch Perfect, and I

understand why – for some bizarre reason, taking talented female actresses and throwing them in a script involving acapella just clicked with America. That being said, Pitch Perfect 2 did not work nearly as well. The film comes across as uninspired, which is a huge blow considering the original was brimming with inspiratory genius. The script is considerably weak, forcing talented actors to deliver subpar performances simply because they have nothing to work with – Anna Kendrick is more than capable of helming any performance on her own, but she needs some assistance from the writers, and they failed her here. The movie overall falls flat, something that a lazy performance by Rebel Wilson contributed to, and something that even a genius cameo by the Green Bay Packers couldn’t fix.

2. AlohaOn paper, having Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel

McAdams, Bill Murray, John Krasinski, Danny McBride, and Alec Baldwin make a movie together should lead to good things. In practice, having this cast be used to whitewash ethnic roles did not lead to good things. Besides being insubstantial and lacking a compelling narrative, the controversy surrounding the casting guaranteed that Aloha wasn’t going to end up as anyone’s favorite movie of the year. I doubt anyone predicted how big of a flop it would end up being, however.

3. PixelsAdam Sandler starring in a movie should be reason enough

why this is one of the worst films of the year. Having not produced a decent film in over a decade and thriving off of cheap laughs with predictable gags instead of producing a film with substance, Sandler’s latest film turns a genius French short film into one of those sexist, raunchy, unfunny bro-films that, unfortunately, have proven to be successful at the box office but are in actuality terrible films. The film has inspiration and an original idea, but it is completely lost in poor direction, poor execution of a poorly written script, and, quite frankly, terrible performances by a lackluster cast. Note to future Hollywood executives: don’t cast Adam Sandler, and maybe your bad film won’t be automatically an embarrassment.

Top 5 TV Shows of 2015

Top News Stories of 2015

1. Game of Thrones (HBO)There is not much else to keep Game of Thrones off the top of this list. The question is not what did happen, but actually what didn’t happen. Death, deceit and love provide some of the biggest moments in the show. The series also had some subplots, but not all of them were important to the progress of the show. Most of the important events happened to Tyrion, Daenerys and Arya, but the biggest blow of all came to Jon Snow. With all that had occurred through season 5, it makes it even more difficult to wonder what will happen in season 6.2. Orange Is the New Black (Netflix)The women of Litchfield prison were back at it again in the third season of the show. The variance of characters and independent storylines centered around Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling). The relationships between Piper and Alex Vause (Laura Prepon) and Dayanara "Daya" Diaz and John Bennett are showcased throughout the season. With the characters beginning to develop even further make it exciting to see how they will develop in season 3. Fargo (FX)Small town crime gets a lot bigger as the series entered its second season. The show follows the events 1979 and follows beautician Peggy Blumquist (Kirsten Dunst) and her husband, butcher Ed Blumquist (Jesse Plemons), as they cover up the hit-and-run and murder of Rye Gerhardt, son of Floyd Gerhardt of the Gerhart

crime family. Even though we don’t get the same criminal that we had with Lorne Malvo (Billy Bob Thornton), we still get that element of black comedy through the featured characters. The Gerhart family also play a huge role in being an imposing force and causing fear to those who cross their path.4. Empire (Fox)Empire’s strong family dynamic is important as we see what goes into making a great record label. The Lyon family proves to have the most dramatics with fraying within the family between Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson). The show also shows the battle for power through brothers Andre, Jamal and Hakeem. A huge thing that Empire does is the music that is created along with the show. The star power that they bring in is huge to the success of the show. Musicians like Jennifer Hudson, Ludacris and Snoop Dogg have contributed to the show’s success through their guest appearances.5. Better Call Saul (AMC)The sleeper pick out of all the shows on the list, Better Call Saul presented us with a nice prequel/spin-off to the Breaking Bad series. Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) is the focus of the series as it shows his days before working for Walter White. While we know what happens in the end, it is still interesting to see the beginnings of the corrupt, small-time lawyer that many had come to know on Breaking Bad.

1. Same-Sex Marriage Legalized in all 50 StatesOn June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court ruled that same-

sex marriage would be legal nationwide! Love finally won.

2. Confederate Flag Controversy In 2015, controversy erupted over whether or not the

confederate flag was a symbol of racism or simply a part of history. Schools nationwide started banning the use of the flag. The topic continues to be discussed today.

3. AME ShootingOn the evening of June 17, 2015, a gunman opened fire at a Charleston church during a prayer service. The gunman killed nine people in total in hopes of starting a race war.

5. Pray for ParisOn Friday October 13th, 2015 terrorists opened fire at

an Eagles of Death Metal concert in Paris, killing about 130 people. ISIS took responsibility for the attacks that included suicide bombers and several more attacks. France then retaliated with airstrikes just two days later.

4. Kim DavisThe county clerk for Rowen County in Kentucky

refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, stating it was against her beliefs. After continuously refusing to issue licenses, the judge found her in contempt of court. She was ordered to stay in jail until she would comply with the judge’s orders. After five days, Davis was released and was no longer in charge of issuing marriage licenses.

It seems like one thing after the other would break and we would have to fix it, even amidst nights of heavy intoxication. We learned together, we panicked together, but I feel that we’ve left the station in a better place than when we started. Thank you for putting up with my words of impending doom for the station. You will be missed. -Matt

You took over at such an important time for the Buzz and we would not be anywhere near as successful as we are without you. Your ability to lead and keep us on track is the reason that WSBU the Buzz is the greatest media outlet on campus. -Nate

I’ll never forget my first day of orientation. I was actually pretty confident and was ready to take on Bonas. I thought I knew it all and was really pretty arrogant. But when orientation came around I didn’t know anyone, and I was really nervous. You were my orientation leader and you really helped make the transition from high school to college a smooth one, telling me about Kairos and how my locker was 5 down from Ryan’s at Mcquaid. Jackie, you’re really hard working and you have a lot of good things coming your way. Just take a deep breath and appreciate the things around you. -Ini

Jackie, there is no one else in the world like you. As I write this I think of all of your strange obsessions. I still don't like your dog pictures. I never will ever like them. But, I love you, and I'm lucky to have you as a friend. You've been a terrific station manager, and the buzz is so much better off for having you. -Kirk

I know I have only been on the board for one semester, but I have learned so much from you. I have enjoyed hav-ing you as my first Station Manager. I went into this semester looking at you as just “the boss” and came out look-ing at you as my friend. Thank you for everything! -Chris

I first met Jackie in my initial days as an official Bonaventure student. She served as my orientation leader, and I noticed from the start the infectiousness of her positive attitude. Getting to know Jackie more closely throughout her tenure as station manager has undoubtedly been a blast and a half. -Jason

We’ve been friends since freshman year and the time has just flown by! You’ve been a great station manager and I’m so happy to have worked with you. Plus, you’re the only person I know that loves Clueless as much as I do! Can’t wait to finish out our last semester together. Love you! - Bri

It’s crazy to think that we’re only one semester away from graduating, and I’ve known you since that first day on 2nd Rob. I’m so proud of everything you’ve accomplished, especially the rock-star job you’ve done as the station manager these past two semesters. Although I’ll always see you as the Disney and dog-obsessed person that you are, I know the professional world will see you as a competent and likable leader, one who has a bright future ahead of her. Let’s finish senior year off strong. - Morgan

SO LONG, FAREWELL, Board Members Bid Adieu

Production: There will always be a special place in my heart for this production department. Bradley and Whitney, I can’t thank you enough for giving in when I blew up your emails asking you to join our board of directors. I can’t think of anyone who could’ve done a better job than you two. I’ll miss our long nights staring at the computer while listening to an operator explain to us how many problems it had. Oh wait, I actually won’t miss that lolol. But I will miss our long conversations in the board room and our group text that consists of, “Something was broken. Now it is fixed.” You are easily one of the most compatible departments and I’m so glad I was fortunate enough to be a part of that. Love you both!! Keep smiling, or not (Whit-terrier). -Jackie

AUF WEIDERSEHEN, GOODBYE to Their Counterparts

Business: Sam,THE SAM DEPARTMENT!! I’m so happy us DECA people could reunite in college. Even though I probably annoy you when I talk about competition all the time, I’m sure on some level that has contributed to our companionship. I’m so happy we’ve been able to work together for so long. I still remember giving you the Pillsbury Doughboy award at our first banquet before we really knew each other. I can promise you, I totally meant that as a compliment. You’ve done such a great job with business and I always look forward to your weekly report at our meetings. Best of luck Sam :) I expect nothing but greatness. Wherever life takes you, please still send those panorama Snapchats. -Jackie

Music:Kirk, Justin and I modeled ourselves after great power trios in music history, such as Nirvana or Bell Biv Devoe. Pinpointing just a couple things, I’d say our reliance on each other and our overall compatibility made our time in the music department together work. It’ll be sad to feel their absence from the board, but I know they have tremendous things lying ahead in their respective futures, and after this year’s graduation, I’m confident I’ll cross paths with those two again. Down the road, maybe we’ll all be writing pretentious, overly harsh album reviews for Pitchfork—you never know.

-JasonSports:Ryan,I can’t even begin to thank you enough for how much you taught me. Aside from the technical aspects tow working in a radio station, you taught me so much about being a leader. Whether we are begrudgingly waking up early on a Saturday for the Hickey Show, trying to come up with a convoluted plot to get the rights to the women’s basketball broadcast back or just simply working in the station, I have always enjoyed hanging out together. Going forward, the sports department will miss you and we thank you for your time on the board. -Nate
