Burnt Elm Goes PINK on April 12th April 13 is Day of Pink, the international day to celebrate diversity and inclusion to work towards ending homophobia, transphobia and all forms of bullying and discrimination. This year, there are several bolded holy days taking place on April 13. In order to give all of our students an opportunity to be part of this important inclusion activity, Peel District School Board schools will recognize Day of Pink on April 12 this year. “Equity and inclusion is something that all Peel schools teach throughout the year and discuss with students daily—it is embedded in everything we do,” says Tony Pontes, director of education. “Day of Pink is just one more way for us to ensure students and staff learn, work and develop in environments that are safe, equitable, inclusive, respectful and nurturing for all.” Day of Pink began when a high school student in Cambridge, Nova Scotia, was bullied with homophobic language because he wore a pink shirt to school. The next day, hundreds of students at his school stood up to bullying and wore pink to school to show their support for equity and inclusion. On this day, Burnt Elm students and staff will wear pink to celebrate diversity and inclusion.

School Travel Traffic Count Data Collection Project Information Letter

The Region of Peel and your school, Burnt Elm, would like to reduce school congestion and promote overall school safety by encouraging more of our students to walk and/or roll to and from school. When our students walk and/or roll to and from school, we can:

• Increase the number of those who are physically active to improve overall health

• Reduce traffic congestion around the school

• Improve air quality • Create safer streets for pedestrians

and cyclists • Increase school and community

engagement

Between April to June 2016 and mid-September to early-November 2016, school traffic counts will be conducted for two days at your school to gather baseline data on how students travel to and from school. Traffic counters will count the number of students who are driven, walk, cycle, scooter, or skateboard to and from school. Should you have any further questions, please contact: Catherine Sim Health Promoter Public Health, Region of Peel 7120 Hurontario Street Mississauga, ON [email protected] 905-791-7800, ext. 2179 Let’s Talk: Provide Input on the Peel District School Board’s 2016-17 Budget Priorities The Peel District School Board has a long history of fiscal responsibility, focused on a mission to inspire success, confidence and hope in each student. Do you notice anything interesting about the way numbers are shown? - Look for interesting patterns. You may find it useful to use colours to highlight them. Describe some of your findings and share…What might 29 and 30 look like? What do you notice about the circles? https://www.youcubed.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/WIM-Day-2-gr-3-4-vF.pdf

Consecutive Numbers The number 12 can be written as a sum of consecutive numbers,

3 + 4 + 5 = 12. Another example of a consecutive number sum is 3 since

1 + 2 = 3. Can all numbers be written as sums of consecutive numbers? Can some

consecutive number sums be written in more than one way? Celebrating Faith and Culture-April 2016
