THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW.

BROWNSVILLE – THE REAL “GAME OF THRONES”

The New York State Senate is one of two houses in the

New York State Legislature and has members each

elected to two-year termsThere are no limits on the

number of terms one may serve.

State senators are elected officials that represent the constituents of their respective states. Each state is divided into districts, which state senators represent and serve. A state senator's duties reflect the needs and demands of the representative district, similar to the duties of U.S. Senators, who serve their states in Washington, D.C. Ultimately, state senators are responsible for making state legislation into law.

State senators frequently send newsletters to stay in touch with the members of their districts. In addition, they often hold meetings and visit the members of their representative districts to discuss major issues and to identify the concerns of the citizens. Additionally, state senators work with county and city officials to ensure that projects are completed and that their votes in the Senate represent their districts' needs and concerns. Read more about this topic at the link listed below : http://www.ehow.com/about_6466934_job-state-senator_.html As well as being in touch with the citizens of their representative districts, state senators must also stay in contact with their constituents. State senators receive letters, phone calls and emails from their citizens and consider their suggestions for bills and changes to existing law.

wikipedia

The New York State Legislature, which is older than the U.S. Congress, was established as a law-making body in 1777. The Legislature is comprised of two houses, the Assembly and the Senate, both of which have co-equal powers. These two houses have the power to make all laws in all areas of the state except those that have been reserved to the federal government or to the people. In 1808, twelve new members were added and in 1815 there was a further increase of fourteen. This number remained in effect until 1894 when the Constitution of that year increased the membership to 150.

Since 1938, Assemblymembers have been

elected in even years for two year terms.

Vacancies are filled by special election.

The Assembly meets annually in unlimited

session and convenes in the Capitol in

Albany, in the Assembly Chamber.

In the Assembly, the presiding officer is the

speaker, elected by the members, upon

the nomination of the majority party. The

speaker makes all committee assignments

and appoints and directs the work of most

of the Assembly staff. The current

Assembly Speaker is Sheldon Silver.

The Constitution permits, with certain

restrictions, legislative reapportionment by

legislative enactment.

The crowd and excitement of the people was not what I expected. Maybe we arrived early or is it because we had to cross waters. Majority of us had buses and we rode quietly to arrive. I, Myself looking to be a bit more radical and make a little more noise. I say to myself, "Concentrate on why we are here, make the difference." There is a issue at hand that we as a people have to deal with as not one of us has a solution without the other. As a whole it appears we still have no respect for each other or authority , this march is not about you it is about; Brother Eric Garner and how he was murdered in the face of America on live TV via cell phone connect. Technology is about showing the evidence of what really happen. Why are we hustling at the march selling items and t shirts for personal gain. Stop, Look and Listen to the heartbeat of his mother, wife and children. No items to be sold and no personal profit of your own as this is a battle we must maintain and stay focus on. So I calculate in my head as I lost count on my fingers the many people who are here, there and everywhere. My people showed up and showed out for "Brother Eric Garner" and there is no color line when you truly stand for justice. Signs reading: "Justice Jail Cop Killers" "Be the last Human Killed" "NYPD keep your hands off me" I am from Philly, "Being Black aint a crime" "Respect Human Life" slogans that talk loud and say nothing if we don't respond to each. Is it back to different strokes for different folks, we are not here to bring down but build up, take out the rotten apple, give us a chance to live, work on relationships with NYPD, we demand a message to be sent and heard and acted upon, NYPD must be made accountable, your weapon is your voice, one community one voice , one city with a choice. Respect for all. All these sentiments spoken by well known

leaders as Rev Daughtry, Rev Al Sharpton and others who share a stage with the Garner Family, and others that are there for support. The family sits on a stage and begins to speak to the multitude of people and say each one of them saying "Thank you" we can make it. So as I walk away still not feeling the solution, but understanding the issue and why I needed to be here today I say,"Tell me who you walk with and I will tell you who you are." So can you tell if I made a difference and where were you?

3 Essential Financial Statements for Your Small Business by plester, Community Moderator

Created: August 4, 2014, 8:05 am Updated: August 4, 2014, 8:06 am 4 comments Accurately tracking financial data is not only critical for running the day-to-day operations of your small business, but it is also essential when seeking funding from lenders or investors to take your business to the next level. In addition, keeping tabs of your finances can help ensure your products and services are priced right, identify what your margins are, determine your cash flow and make filing taxes easier.

Here are three basic financial statements that are important for your small business:

1. Balance sheet. This statement provides an overall financial snapshot of your small business. As an equation, it looks like liabilities + owner’s equity = assets. The two sides of the equation must balance out.

There are two types of assets: current and fixed. Current assets include cash or

other holdings that can quickly be converted to cash within a year. These may

include inventory, prepaid expenses and accounts receivable. Machinery,

equipment, land, buildings, furniture and other essentials that you are not planning

to sell are considered fixed assets.

Liabilities can be broken down into current or short-term liabilities, such as

accounts payable and taxes, and long-term debt such as bank loans or notes

payable to stockholders. Owner’s equity includes any invested capital or retained

earnings. If you captured all of your accounting information correctly, both sides of

the balance sheet equation should be equal. Download SCORE’s template to

start setting up your own balance sheet.

2. Profit and loss statement. A profit and loss statement, also referred to as an income statement, enables you to project sales and expenses and typically covers a period of a few months to a year.

To determine net profit, subtract total operating expenses from gross profit. (Gross

profit – total operating expenses = net profit.) Remember that gross profit is

calculated as total sales minus the cost of goods sold. Costs of goods sold include

things like raw materials, inventory and payroll taxes. Make sure to also factor in

overhead costs such repairs, utilities, insurance and legal fees into your operating

expenses to ensure your net profit is accurate. SCORE’s profit and loss

statement template (.xls) includes all the necessary calculations to help you

forecast net profit.

3. Cash flow statement. This statement highlights how much money is coming in to (cash inflows) and going out of (cash outflows) your business. Cash inflows include cash sales, accounts receivable collections, loans and other investments. Equipment purchased, expenses paid, inventory and other payments are considered cash outflows.

To calculate your ending cash balance, take the beginning cash balance, add cash

inflows and then subtract cash outflows. (Beginning cash balance + cash

inflows – cash outflows = ending cash balance.) Download SCORE’s cash

flow statement template (.xls) to get started. Explore SCORE’s library of

financial statement templates for more helpful documents.

Apartment Building Recycling Initiative (ABRI)

Would you like to see recycling improved in your apartment building? Do you want to help residents and staff learn more about waste prevention,

reuse, and recycling?

Participate in the NYC Apartment Building Recycling

Initiative!

If you satisfy program requirements, you'll work with Sanitation's Bureau of

Waste Prevention, Reuse and Recycling (BWPRR) to educate residents and staff

in your building about the three R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Once you sign up with NYC ABRI through our online enrollment program form, here's what will happen:

1. You'll be invited to attend a training session where you'll receive info about how to improve apartment building recycling.

Note: Training sessions are held at the offices of the DSNY Bureau of Waste

Prevention, Reuse and Recycling in downtown Manhattan.

Upcoming trainings:

Wed, August 13, 1:30-3:30pm

Thurs, September 11, 6:00-8:00pm

Tues, October 21, 10:30am-12:30pm

We can do specially scheduled on-site trainings for at least ten participants. Each participant would need

to complete the enrollment program registration form. If you are interested in organizing such a training,

please indicate this on the sign-up form.

2. BWPRR outreach staff will visit your building to see how recycling is set up.

3. We'll provide your building (free of charge) with recycling decals, posters, checklists, and other materials

to encourage all residents to recycle more.

4. After you have attended the training, you'll receive personalized suggestions on how to improve your

building's recycling set up. Throughout your participation, you'll have access to BWPRR recycling experts,

whom you can contact for recycling pointers and support. Read "Recycling School" article in Habitat

Magazine about the ABRI program.
