Any Decent Dry Rosé!When the sun goes down and the air remains sultry, I reach for an icy cold dry rosé. I’ve enjoyed all of the ones we sell in Iowa City, and I can say they are all well worth the $. First: they’re pretty to look at! Dry rosé is versatile and perfect for almost any meal, and steamy summer nights demand something cool to keep you feeling fine. Rosés are refreshing, with a bit of those berry/cassis/bramble fruit flavors I love, relatively inexpensive, and don’t possess a bit of pretentiousness. They’re sassy and FUN! – just like a perfect summer day.

l’ExplorateurThis is truly “la crème de la crème”! This French soft-ripened cow’s milk cheese is a triple crème, meaning it’s at least 75% butter fat content, achieved by adding extra cream to the base. No need to say more, right?! The finished product, created in the 1950s to honor the first US satellite ‘Explorer,’ has a luxurious ivory paste encased in a velvety white rind. Great with fruit for a decadent dessert, or with any dry red wine and crusty French bread as an appetizer or main entrée. Sure to impress – if you can bring yourself to share! $10.99/cup.

Sineann WineryWe’ve championed winemaker/owner Peter Rosback’s wines for years here. Why? They are absolutely, stone-cold freaking delicious. I love everything Peter makes but will limit my blather to one this go-round. His humble white table wine, 100% New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, is everything we love from NZ: grapefruit, grass, and citrus abound, zesty and lively, with great acidity and a mineral-tinged finish that just doesn’t let up. The bottle says: “Good luck finding a better white wine for the money” – true that. $16.99

– Tom, Coralville Wine Guy

Laxas AlbariñoA fresh and friendly wine! This 100% Albariño from one of the more historic bodegas in the Condado do Tea sub-zone is well-balanced and complex, largely due to a granite and slate-based terrain interwoven with a network of small river valleys. Its impressive body of ripe fruit flavors, noteworthy minerality, and gentle acidity will make you rethink how special a white wine really can be. $14.99

– Kathleen, Iowa City & Coralville

Chris Christensen, a Cedar Rapids native transplanted to California, apprenticed 8 years in the winemaking industry before launching his own wine label, Bodkin. His balanced, masterfully crafted white wines pair well with food and are perfect for quaffing all by themselves in sweltering summer weather. Produced in very small quantities of 500 cases or less with grapes from Sandy Bend Vineyards and Rogers Family Vineyards, don’t miss out on a chance to cool down with one of these beauties!

2013 Sauvignon Blanc “The Victor’s Spoils” 91 points per Wine Enthusiast

Nose: notes of lime and citrus. Mouth: grapefruit and tangerine. Pair with: scallops tossed in a lemon butter sauce, or a light salad with grilled vegetables and goat cheese. $16.99

2012 Muscat Canelli 89 points per Wine Enthusiast

Known as Muscat Bianco, this grape in the Muscat family is commonly used to make Muscat d’Asti. This artfully pro-duced wine, which is not cloyingly sweet, has notes of peach and stone fruits, and balanced acidity. Pair with: spicy curry or Thai food, or blue cheese and fresh figs. $16.99

2013 Late Harvest Sauvignon BlancChris calls this wine a “liquid gold baby-maker”… need I say more? It’s uncommon to find a dessert wine from Sauvignon Blanc grapes, and tropical fruit flavors and a hint of baking spice make this a rich way to end a meal. $19.99
