The Alliance partners came together to launch an online hub for youth programs in Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park. The goal is to connect youth to opportunities in the Brooklyns.www.BrooklynsConnect.Org

BARRIERS• After engaging 29 youth sport providers, 81

SOLUTIONS• Expand FREE “Sport Sample” afterschool classes or recreation programs to try out different sports • Create BrookLynk summer coaching internships for teens to lead leagues for kids • Reach out to parents and connect them to opportunities• Launch a Youth Sports Draft Day that would be a ‘one-stop-shop’ to sign up, access scholarships and get equipment for seasonal sport offerings

YOUTH SURVEY• 73% of youth in the Brooklyns are interested • 68% of non-participating youth are interested in sports• If we want youth to participate – let’s connect

The Alliance found that participation in sports has a variety of benefits, including:• Higher test scores (Up to 40%) • Higher chance to go to college (15% more likely)• Higher chance of being active with their own children, this would repeat the cycle of benefits to their children

Hennepin County Librarians Morgan Wylie and Mallory HaskinThese Youth Service Librarians identified gender inclusivity as an area of focus and piloted theirapproach at the Anime Prom at Brookdale Library in order to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment to participants of all gender identities.

* Mobilized caring adults to provide inclusivity training

* Spread social emotional learning

* Created equitable access

* Created systems change

* Provided youth engagement

The Brooklyns Youth Council is a youth leadership team that is a key part of our

governance structure. In addition to participating on our Board of Directors,

they provide input on youth issues for partners and take action to

accelerate youth success.
