Corrie- Cobbled streets, working class housing estate (chimneys for tasha).

- Stereotypical working class accents (Manchurian), clothing.

- ONE GAY MAN (+ two lesbanims), to show tolerance, stereotypically camp! Asian family running corner shop, tolerance of ethnicity

- Strong/Dominant female characters. E.g Liz, running the pub, Carla running factory

- Factory going into liquidation (almost), audience can relate to it (linekers & mood shutting down for tasha (again)), personal issues also made present, family problems

- Some woman used to run the cabs

- First ever Soap Opera; Ken Barlow has ALWAYS tried to escape, right from the beginning.

- Soap doesn’t marginalise women so their audience are mainly working class women.

Brookie- Typical working class accent (Scouse) Set in

Liverpool- Blamed the government for job problems

etc.., no personal problems really, decline of Liverpool’s traditional factories

- Middle class families living in working class estates (OMG)

- Clothing, housing estates, although they are a bit better than the ones in Eastenders and Coronation Street

- Talking about the football, having very stereotypical family problems; Not being able to get out of bed on time

- Economic threat/downfall

Enders - Stereotypical cockney accent, stalls in the

street, run down shops and laundrettes- Typical car garage, run down park graffiti

everywhere, - Mix of class; Working class and upper working

to middle class families- The club and the Vic, busty bar maid- Burger and chicken nuggets, not top notch

meal- Dysfunctional families with personal problems

which tend to be sometimes over the top- Women working in laundrette, stereotypical- Strong female characters, Janine and Lauren,

which cause conflict between women- Social Mobility; Darren believes in it and wants

to move up (wearing suits) Arthur (FATBWOIII) doesn’t.

- ‘Pass Out’ & ‘One in a Million’ to show storyline

General Banter- Mainly have non-diegetic music in soaps except for Hollyoaks

as that tends to target a more modern teenage audience.- Representation often reflects the dominant ideology of the

society that we live in.- Collective identity-the individuals sense of belonging to a

group, not just representations.- Working Class is mainly reflected through the mise-en-scene

E.g clothing, - In nearly all the soaps you have people who are trying to

escape their class.- All have working class accents- Always dominant female roles, in most soaps. - Social realism often taken to a new level; Alcoholism, rape,

drugs, murder. They attempt to recreate the world of ordinary everyday people on screen

- Their representations have changed over time-with social, political and ideological change.

- Iconographic music is usually present
