Hadith of Imam Ja’far al Sadiqasws onkitab Sulaym ibn Qays

[ 21397 ] 42 - الشیخ عبد النبي الكاظمي في تكملة الرجال: نقلا عن خط المجلسي رحمه االله،قال: اقول: وجدت نسخة قدیمة من كتاب سلیم بروایتین بینهما اختلاف یسیر، وكتب في آخراحداهما: تم كتاب سلیم بن قیس الهلالي - إلى أن قال - روي عن الصادق (علیه السلام)، أنه قال:" من لم یكن عنده من شیعتنا ومحبینا كتاب سلیم بن قیس الهلالي، فلیس عنده من أمرنا شئ، ولا

یعلم من أسبابنا شیئا، وهو أبجد الشیعة، وسر من اسرار آل محمد (علیهم السلام) ".

The Sheykh Abdul Naby Al Kazmy in Takmalat Al Rijaal said, ‘Icopied from the writing of Al Majlisi, may Allahazwj have Mercy uponhim, who said, ‘I say that I found an old copy of Kitab Sulaym by tworeports between which were simple differences, and written at theend of one of them was, “This completes Kitab Sulaym Bin Qays AlHilali – until it said – A report from Al Sadiqasws, thatheasws said: ‘The ones from ourasws Shiites and those that lovesusasws, who does not have Kitab Sulaym Bin Qays Al Hilali, thenthere is nothing with him from ourasws matters, nor does heknow anything from ourasws reasons, and it is the Alphabet(Abjad) of the Shiites, and a secret from the secrets of theProgenyasws of Mohammedsaww’.[1]

PrefaceSulaym ibn Qays Kufi Amari Hilalira is ‘Tabai’[2] and has seen thelifetime of five Masoom Imamsasws, including Imam Aliasws, ImamHassanasws, Imam Hussainasws, Imam Zainul Abadeenasws and ImamMohammed Baqirasws. Sulaym has written those accounts in hispriceless book, which he has either observed by his own eyes or hasdirectly heard from those who have directly heard from the Divinetongues of the Prophet Mohammedsaww or Amir-ul-MomineenAliasws ibn abi Talibasws. The date of birth of Sulaym ibn Qays can beestimated from the history somewhere during the early years aftermigration of the Holy Prophetsaww to Medina and his demise isbelieved to have taken place somewhere between 70 to 90 Hijri[3]. Most of the Shia scholars have agreed that his book is the first ShiaAhadith book compiled even before the famous Shia book,consisting of the sermons and Ahadith narrated by Imam Zain-ul-Abadeenasws ‘Sahifa-e-Kamila’.

Ibn Nadeem has included in his book when commenting aboutthe scholars and Ahadith contributors that Sulaym ibn Qays Hilaliwas among the devout companions of Amir-ul-Momineenasws. Heescaped persecution of Hajjaj ibn Yousif and took refuge with Abaanibn abi Ayash. Hajjaj wanted to arrest and kill Sulaym Ibn Qays, soAbaan offered him shelter in recognition of him being a companion ofAmir-ul-Momineenasws. When Sulaym ibn Qays was inspired abouthis death, he told Abaan, O the son of my brother, I am about toleave this world, as Prophetsaww has informed me so. After havingsaid that Sulaym entrusted to Abaan his book (as it is in your handstoday). It’s a famous book of Sulaym, which does not give referenceto any other book but directly narrates from Amir-ul-Momineenasws and hisasws pious companions.

Dream of Abanra:Ummar ibn Azina says, once Abaan ibn abi Ayash called for me and when Iturned up he narrated to me the following: ‘I have been informed in mydream that I will soon be leaving this world, so I am very pleased to seeyou, last night Sulaym ibn Qays came into my dream, and said, O Abaan!You are about to exit this mortal world, fear Allah about the my work(book) which I have entrusted to you and do not waste it, fulfil yourpromise of keeping it hidden from the others but passing it onto the shias ofAmir-ul-momineenasws, the shia which you entrust this book with should bepious and from good linage. Abaan then continued telling me aboutSulaym ibn Qays, that when Hajjaj came to Iraq, he started enquiring aboutSulaym ibn Qays, as he had a burning desire of killing him. Sulaym afterfinding it out slipped away from there and discreetly came to us inNobandjan and resided with us at my house. Abaan says I have not seenanyone more devout and knowledgeable, fearing Allah, disliking fame; Iwas, at that time, only fourteen years of age.

I learnt the Holy Quran from Sulaym and I used to ask him aboutvarious religious matters and he would narrate to me the Ahadith from thecompanions of the warriors of ‘Badr’. He narrated to me Ahadith fromSalama ibn Umme Salamasa the wife of the Holy Prophetsaww, Muaz ibnJabal, Salman Farasi, Amir-ul-Momineenasws, Abu Dharr, Miqdad, Ammarand Bara ibn Azab. He then put those Ahadith away without taking anycommitment from me but then near his death time, he called me and said:

O Abaan! I have stayed with you, and have not seen those things in you,which I really abhor. I have a book containing Ahadith which I have heardfrom most trustworthy narrators and I have written those down with myown hand, I do not want to reveal those Ahadith to the public as they willfind those extremely strange and refute them, although those are just, I havedirectly heard those from just and pious ones, including Amir-ul-Momineenasws, Salman Farsira, Abu Dharr Ghafarira, Miqdad ibn Aswadra. There is not a single Hadith in this compilation, which I after listening fromone, has not ratified from the other one. All of them have agreed with those

accounts. When I got ill I thought about destroying them but then I abhorthat idea and instead will like you to safeguard my work, do not reveal it toanyone but after my death and only to the one whom you find trustworthy,reliable and is a staunch Shia of Ahl Al-Baytasws. Upon accepting theseconditions of Sulaym, he gave me his book, and read all of it to me, he thenpassed away. After his death, I read his book again and found it verystrange and difficult as it clearly showed destruction, in the Hereafter, of allnation of the Prophet Mohammedsaww except for the followers of Amir-ul-Momineen, whether they might be among the Mahajr[4], Ansaar[5] or theTabaie[6].

كیف تعرف ابن أذینة على أبان؟قال عمر بن أذینة: دعاني أبان بن أبي عیاش قبل موته بنحو شهر فقال لي: رأیت البارحةرؤیا، أني خلیق أن أموت سریعا. إني رأیتك الغداة ففرحت بك. إني رأیت اللیلة سلیم بن قیسالهلالي فقال لي: (یا أبان، إنك میت في أیامك هذه. فاتق االله في ودیعتي ولا تضیعها، وف لي بماضمنت من كتمانها. ولا تضعها إلا عند رجل من شیعة علي بن أبي طالب صلوات االله علیه له

How did Ibn Azina come to knowAbaan

Umar Bin Azina said, ‘Abaan Bin Ayyash called me approximatelyone month before he died. He said to me, ‘I saw a dream last nightthat I will soon die. I saw you this morning and happy with you. I sawSulaym Bin Qays last night (in the dream), he said to me, ‘O Abaan,You will soon be dead during these days, so fear Allahazwj withregard to my trust (this book) and do not let it go to waste, and befaithful to me with what responsibility I gave you for concealing it.And do not display it except in the presence of a man from theShiites of Ali Bin Abu Talibasws who is reputable in his religion’. WhenI saw you today, I was happy to see you, and I mentioned to you thedream of Sulaym Bin Qays’.

كیف تعرف أبان على سلیم؟لما قدم الحجاج العراق سأل عن سلیم بن قیس، فهرب منه فوقع إلینا بالنوبندجان متواریا،فنزل معنا في الدار. فلم أر رجلا كان أشد إجلالا لنفسه ولا أشد اجتهادا ولا أطول حزنا منه، ولاأشد خمولا لنفسه ولا أشد بغضا لشهرة نفسه منه. وأنا یومئذ ابن أربع عشرة سنة، وقد قرأتالقرآن، وكنت أسأله فیحدثني عن أهل بدر. فسمعت منه أحادیث كثیرة عن عمر بن أبي سلمة ابنأم سلمة زوجة النبي صلى االله علیه وآله، وعن معاذ بن جبل وعن سلمان الفارسي وعن علي بنأبي طالب علیه السلام وأبي ذر والمقداد وعمار والبراء بن عازب. ثم استكتمنیها ولم یأخذ علي

فیها یمینا.

When Al Hajjaj came to Al Iraq, he asked about Sulaym BinQays. He fled from him, and came to us at Al Nowbandajaan. Hestayed with us at the house. I have never seen a man more intensein his reputation, nor more intense in his diligence, nor lengthier inhis grief, nor more intense in being in isolation, nor more intense inabhorring publicity for himself, than him. And I was of fourteen yearsof age in those days, and had read the Quran, and I used to ask him,so he narrated to me about the people of Badr. I heard numerousHadith from him, from Umar bin Abu Salma, the son of UmmSalmaas, the wife of the Prophetsaww, and from Ma’az Bin Jabal, andfrom Salman Al Farsyas, and from Ali Bin Abu Talibasws, and from

Abu Dharrar, and Al Miqdadar, and Ammarar, and Al Bara’a BinAazibar. Then he told me to conceal these, but did not take an oathfrom me with my right hand.

قراءة سلیم كتابه على أبان وتسلیمه إیاهفلم ألبث أن حضرته الوفاة، فدعاني وخلا بي وقال: یا أبان، إني قد جاورتك فلم أر منك إلا ماأحب. وإن عندي كتبا سمعتها عن الثقات وكتبتها بیدي، فیها أحادیث لا أحب أن تظهر للناس، لأنالناس ینكرونها ویعظمونها. وهي حق أخذتها من أهل الحق والفقه والصدق والبر، عن علي بنأبي طالب صلوات االله علیه وسلمان الفارسي وأبي ذر الغفاري والمقداد بن الأسود رضي االلهعنهم. ولیس منها حدیث أسمعه من أحدهم إلا سألت عنه الآخر حتى اجتمعوا علیه جمیعا، فتبعتهم

علیه، وأشیاء بعد سمعتها من غیرهم من أهل الحق.

Sulaym read his book to Abaan andsubmitted it to him

It wasn’t long before, that death presented itself to him. He called meand was in seclusion with me, and said, ‘O Abaan, I have comeclose to you. I have not seen from you except what I like. And in mypresence is a book of what I have heard from the reliable ones, andwritten it by my hand. In this are Hadith, which I would not like you todisplay to the people, because the people will deny these and willmagnify them. And this is the truth, which I have taken from thepeople of the truth, and the understanding, and the sincerity, and thegoodness – from Ali Bin Abu Talibasws, and Salman Al Farsyar, andAbu Dharr Al Ghaffaryar, and Al Miqdad Bin Al Aswadar. And there isno Hadith in it, which I have heard from one of them except that Iasked about it to the other one until they all were in agreement withit. So I followed them, and there are things, which I heard afterwardsfrom others, the people of the truth.وإني هممت حین مرضت أن أحرقها، فتأثمت من ذلك وقطعت به. فإن جعلت لي عهد االله عزوجل ومیثاقه أن لا تخبر بها أحدا ما دمت حیا، ولا تحدث بشیئ منها بعد موتي إلا من تثق بهكثقتك بنفسك، وإن حدث بك حدث أن تدفعها إلى من تثق به من شیعة علي بن أبي طالب صلواتاالله علیه ممن له دین وحسب. فضمنت ذلك له، فدفعها إلي وقرأها كلها علي. فلم یلبث سلیم أن

هلك، رحمه االله.And I was considering burning it during my illness. I thought that

to be a sin and cut myself off from it. Give me a promise ofAllahazwj Mighty and Majestic, and by Himazwj you will not informabout it anyone as long as I am alive, nor will you narrate anythingfrom it after my death except to the one as reliable as yourself. And ifan event takes place whereby you have to hand it over, then give itto the reliable one from the Shiites of Ali Bin Abu Talibasws who isreputable in his religion’ So he read it all out to me and handed all ofit over to me. It was not long before Sulaym passed away. MayAllahazwj have Mercy on him.

Approval of Al Hassan Al Basry of thecontents of the Book of Sulaym

I looked into it afterwards, so I cut off by it, and magnified it, andfound difficulties with it, because in it is the destruction of the wholeof the community of Mohammedsaww, from the Emigrants, and theHelpers, and the Followers (Al Tabioun), apart from Ali Bin AbuTalibasws, and the Peopleasws of hisasws Household, andhisaswsShiites.فكان أول من لقیت بعد قدومي البصرة الحسن بن أبي الحسن البصري، وهو یومئذ متوار منالحجاج. والحسن یومئذ من شیعة علي بن أبي طالب صلوات االله علیه ومن مفرطیهم، نادم متلهف

على ما فاته من نصرة علي علیه السلام والقتال معه یوم الجمل.

So the first one I met when I proceeded to Basra was Al HassanBin Abu Al Hassan Al Basry, and in those days he was one of thosefleeing from Al Hajjaj. And Al Hassan in those days was onemanifesting himself to be one of the Shiites of Ali Bin Abu Talibasws,and was remorseful and wanted to make up for not having helpedAliasws and fought alongside himasws in the battle of the Camel (AlJamal).

فخلوت به في شرقي دار أبي خلیفة الحجاج بن أبي عتاب الدیلمي، فعرضتها علیه، فبكى ثمقال: (ما في أحادیثه شیئ إلا حق، قد سمعته من الثقات من شیعة علي بن أبي طالب صلوات االله

علیه وغیرهم .

So, I secluded myself with him in the eastern part of the house ofAbu Khalifa Al Hajjaj Bin Abu Otaab Al Daylami. I presented it (thebook) to him. He wept, then said, ‘There is no Hadith in it except thatit is truth which I have heard from the reliable ones of the Shiites ofAli Bin Abu Talibasws, and others’.

قال أبان: فحججت من عامي ذلك فدخلت على علي بن الحسین علیه السلام، وعنده أبو الطفیلعامر بن واثلة صاحب رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله - وكان من خیار أصحاب علي علیه السلام- ولقیت عنده عمر بن أبي سلمة ابن أم سلمة زوجة النبي صلى االله علیه وآله. فعرضته علیهوعلى أبي الطفیل وعلى علي بن الحسین علیه السلام ذلك أجمع ثلاثة أیام - كل یوم إلى اللیل -ویغدو علیه عمر وعامر. فقرآه علیه ثلاثة أیام، فقال علیه السلام لي: (صدق سلیم، رحمه االله، هذا

حدیثنا كله نعرفه).

Approval of the Imam Zayn Al-Abideenasws for the book

Abaan said, ‘I went for Pilgrimage during that year. I came toAliasws Bin Al-Husaynasws, and in hisaswspresence was Abu TufaylAamir Bin Waasila, a companion of the Messenger of Allahsaww –and he was one of the good companions of Aliasws – and I met inhisasws presence Umar Bin Abu Salma, son of Umm Salmaar, wife ofthe Prophetsaww. I presented it (this book) to him, and to Abu Tufayl,and to Aliasws Bin Al-Husaynasws in that gathering for three days –every day until the night – Umar and Aamir came to himasws as well.I read it out to himasws for three days. Heasws said to me: ‘Sulaymhas spoken the truth, may Allahazwjhave mercy on him. These areourasws Hadith, weasws recognise all of them’.

وقال أبو الطفیل وعمر بن أبي سلمة: (ما فیه حدیث إلا وقد سمعناه من علي صلوات االلهعلیه، ومن سلمان ومن أبي ذر ومن المقداد).

And so said Abu Al-Tufayl and Umar Bin Abu Salma, ‘There isnothing in it except that, which we have heard it from Aliasws, andfrom Salmanar, and from Abu Dharrar, and from Al-Miqdadar.

فقلت لأبي الحسن علي بن الحسین علیه السلام: جعلت فداك، إنه لیضیق صدري ببعض مافیه، لأن فیه هلاك أمة محمد صلى االله علیه وآله رأسا من المهاجرین والأنصار والتابعین، غیركمأهل البیت وشیعتكم. فقال علیه السلام: یا أخا عبد القیس، أما بلغك أن رسول االله صلى االله علیهوآله قال: (إن مثل أهل بیتي في أمتي كمثل سفینة نوح في قومه، من ركبها نجا ومن تخلف عنها

غرق. وكمثل باب حطة في بني إسرائیل)؟ فقلت: نعم.

I said to Abu Al-Hassan Aliasws Bin Al-Husaynasws, ‘May I besacrificed for you, some of this which is in it, has constricted mychest, because in it is the destruction of the community ofMohammedsaww, chiefs of the ‘al-Mahajir’[7] and the ‘Al-Ansar’[8] and

the Followers, except for youasws the Peopleasws of the Householdand yourasws Shiites’. Heasws said: ‘O brother of Abdul Qays, has itnot reached to you that the Messenger of Allahsaww said that: ‘Theexample of the Peopleasws of mysaww Household inmysaww community is like the ark of Noahsa among hisas people. Theone who embarks upon it is rescued, and the one who is left behindwill drown. Like the Door of Hitta among the Children of Israel?’ Isaid, ‘Yes’.

قال: من حدثك؟ فقلت: قد سمعته من أكثر من مائة من الفقهاء. فقال: ممن؟ فقلت: سمعته منحنش بن المعتمر، وذكر أنه سمعه من أبي ذر وهو آخذ بحلقة باب الكعبة ینادي به نداء ویرویهعن رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله. فقال: وممن؟ فقلت: ومن الحسن بن أبي الحسن البصري أنهسمعه من أبي ذر ومن المقداد بن الأسود الكندي ومن علي بن أبي طالب صلوات االله علیه. فقال:وممن؟ فقلت: ومن سعید بن المسیب وعلقمة بن قیس، ومن أبي ظبیان. الجنبي، ومن عبد الرحمن

بن أبي لیلى - كل هؤلاء حاجین - أخبروا أنهم سمعوا من أبي ذر.

Heasws said: ‘Who narrated to you?’ I said, ‘I have heard it frommore than one hundred of the Fuqaha’. Heasws said: ‘From whom?’ Isaid, ‘I heard it from Hanash Bin Al-Mo’tamar, and he mentioned thathe heard it from Abu Dharrar who was grabbing the ring of the Doorof the Kaabah, calling out (loudly), and hear was reporting from theMessenger of Allahsaww’. Heasws said: ‘And from whom?’ I said, ‘Andfrom Al-Hassan Bin Abu Al-Hassan Al-Basry. He heard it from AbuDharrar and from Al-Miqdad Bin Al-Aswad Al-Kindyar, and fromAliasws Bin Abu Talibasws’. Heasws said: ‘And from whom?’ I said, ‘Andfrom Saeed Bin Al-Musayyab, and Alqama Bin Qays, and from AbuZibyaan Al-Janbiy, and from Abdul Rahmaan Bin Abu Layli – all ofthem were Pilgrims – they informed that they heard from AbuDharrar’.

وقال أبو الطفیل وعمر بن أبي سلمة: (ونحن واالله سمعنا من أبي ذر، وسمعناه من علي بنأبي طالب علیه السلام والمقداد وسلمان). ثم أقبل عمر بن أبي سلمة فقال: واالله، لقد سمعته ممنهو خیر من هؤلاء كلهم، سمعته من رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله، سمعته أذناي ووعاه قلبي.فأقبل علي علي بن الحسین علیه السلام فقال: أو لیس هذا الحدیث وحده ینتظم جمیع ما أفظعكوعظم في صدرك من تلك الأحادیث؟ اتق االله یا أخا عبد القیس، فإن وضح لك أمر فاقبله وإلا

فاسكت تسلم ورد علمه إلى االله، فإنك في أوسع مما بین السماء والأرض. قال أبان: فعند ذلك سألتهعما یسعني جهله وعما لا یسعني جهله، فأجابني بما أجابني.

And so said Abu Al-Tufayl and Umar Bin Abu Salma, ‘And we, byAllahazwj, heard from Abu Dharrar, and we heard it from Aliasws BinAbu Talibasws, and Al-Miqdadar, and Salmanar’. Then Umar Bin AbuSalma said, ‘By Allahazwj, I have heard it from the one who is betterthan all of them. I heard it from the Messenger of Allahsaww. I heard itby my ears, and remembered it by my heart. Aliasws Bin Al-Husaynasws addressed me. Heasws said: ‘Is this not one of the Hadithfrom all those that constricted you and created (a burden) on yourchest? Fear Allahazwj, O brother of Abdul Qays, for if its matter isclear to you, then accept it otherwise observe silence, submit andrefer its knowledge to Allahazwj, for you there is leeway with regardsto this which is wider than what is between the sky and the earth’.Abaan said, ‘At that point, I asked himasws about what I was ignorantof and what I was not ignorant of. Heasws answered me whatheasws answered me’.

أبان وأبو الطفیلقال أبان: ثم لقیت أبا الطفیل بعد ذلك في منزله، فحدثني في الرجعة عن أناس من أهل بدروعن سلمان وأبي ذر والمقداد وأبي بن كعب. وقال أبو الطفیل: فعرضت ذلك الذي سمعته منهمعلى علي بن أبي طالب علیه السلام بالكوفة، فقال لي: (هذا علم خاص یسع الأمة جهله ورد علمهإلى االله تعالى). ثم صدقني بكل ما حدثوني فیها وقرأ علي بذلك قرآنا كثیرا وفسره تفسیرا شافیا،

حتى صرت ما أنا بیوم القیامة بأشد یقینا مني بالرجعة.

Abaan and Abu Al-Tufayl

Abaan said, ‘Then I met Abu Al-Tufayl after that at his house. Henarrated to me regarding the Return (Al-Raj’at) about the peoplefrom the combatants of Badr, and from Salmanar, and Abu Dharrar,and Al-Miqdadar, and Abu Bin Ka’ab. And Abu Al-Tufayl said, ‘Ipresented that which I had heard from it, to Aliasws Bin AbuTalibasws at Al-Kufa. Heasws said to me: ‘This is a special knowledge,and there is leeway for the general public to be ignorant of it to referits knowledge to Allahazwj’. Then heasws ratified to me of all what hadbeen narrated to me regarding it, and read out to me regarding that alot from the Quran and explained its explanation satisfactorily, to theextent that I ended up being more convince about the Return (Al-Raj’at) than the Day of Judgement’.

وكان مما قلت: یا أمیر المؤمنین، أخبرني عن حوض رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله، أفيالدنیا هو أم في الآخرة؟ فقال: بل في الدنیا. قلت: فمن الذائد عنه؟ قال: أنا بیدي هذه، فلیردنهأولیائي ولیصرفن عنه أعدائي. قلت: یا أمیر المؤمنین، قول االله تعالى: (وإذا وقع القول علیهمأخرجنا لهم دابة من الأرض تكلمهم، أن الناس...) الآیة، ما الدابة؟ قال: یا أبا الطفیل، اله عن هذا.

And from what I said was, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws, inform meabout the Fountain of the Messenger of Allahsaww, is it in the world orit is in the Hereafter?’ Heasws said: ‘But, it is in the world’. I said, ‘So,who is the one who will defend (turn people back) from it?’Heasws said: ‘Iasws will, by these hands of mineasws. So,myasws friends will come near it, and myasws enemies will be turnedback from it’. I said, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws, the Statement ofAllahazwj “[27:82] And when the word shall come to pass againstthem, We shall bring forth for them a creature from the earththat shall wound them, because people did not believe in Ourcommunications”, what is the creature?’ Heasws said: ‘O Abu Al-Tufayl, refrain from this’.

فقلت: یا أمیر المؤمنین، أخبرني به جعلت فداك. قال: هي دابة تأكل الطعام وتمشي فيالأسواق وتنكح النساء. فقلت: یا أمیر المؤمنین، من هو؟ قال: هو زر الأرض الذي إلیه تسكنالأرض. قلت: یا أمیر المؤمنین، من هو؟ قال: صدیق هذه الأمة وفاروقها ورئیسها وذو قرنها.قلت: یا أمیر المؤمنین، من هو؟ قال: الذي قال االله عز وجل: (ویتلوه شاهد منه) ، والذي (عنده

علم الكتاب)، (والذي جاء بالصدق)، والذي (صدق به) أنا، والناس كلهم كافرون غیري وغیره.

I said, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws, inform me about it, may I besacrificed for youasws’. Heasws said: ‘It is a creature which eats thefood, and walks in the markets, and marries the women’. I said, ‘OAmir-ul-Momineenasws, who is he?’ Heasws said: ‘He is a necessityfor the earth for it to be tranquil’. I said, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws,who is he?’ Heasws said: ‘He is the Truthful (Siddique) of thiscommunity and its Differentiator (Farouq), and its chief, and its‘Zukarn’’. I said, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws, who is he?’ Heasws said:‘The one about whom Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic hasSaid “[11:17] and a witness from Him recites it”, and theone“[13:43] and whoever has knowledge of the Book”, and theone “[39:33] And he who brings the truth and (he who) acceptsit as the truth”, it is Iasws, and all of the people disbelieved apartfrom measws, and himsaww’.

قلت: یا أمیر المؤمنین، فسمه لي. قال: قد سمیته لك. یا أبا الطفیل، واالله لو دخلت على عامةشیعتي الذین بهم أقاتل، الذین أقروا بطاعتي وسموني (أمیر المؤمنین) واستحلوا جهاد من خالفني،فحدثتهم شهرا ببعض ما أعلم من الحق في الكتاب الذي نزل به جبرئیل على محمد صلى االله علیهوآله وببعض ما سمعت من رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله لتفرقوا عني حتى أبقى في عصابة حق

قلیلة، أنت وأشباهك من شیعتي.

I said, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws, name him for me’. Heasws said;‘Iasws have named him for you. O Abu Al-Tufayl, by Allahazwj, if thegeneral public of the Shiites who have fought by myasws side come tomeasws, those that have accepted to be obedient to measws, and callmeasws Amir-ul-Momineen, and consider it lawful to fight against theone who opposes measws, if Iasws were to narrate to them for monthssome of what Iaswsknow from the truth regarding the book whichJibraeel descended with upon Mohammedsaww, and some of what

Iasws heard from the Messenger of Allahsaww, they will disperse frommeasws until there will remain only a few of the truthful ones, you andthose like you from myasws Shiites’.

ففزعت وقلت: یا أمیر المؤمنین، أنا وأشباهي نتفرق عنك أو نثبت معك؟ قال: لا، بل تثبتون.ثم أقبل علي فقال: إن أمرنا صعب مستصعب لا یعرفه ولا یقر به إلا ثلاثة: ملك مقرب أو نبيمرسل أو عبد مؤمن نجیب امتحن االله قلبه للإیمان. یا أبا الطفیل، إن رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله

قبض فارتد الناس ضلالا وجهالا(1)، إلا من عصمه االله بنا أهل البیت.

I panicked and said, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws, I and those likeme, we will disperse from youasws, or will we remain steadfast withyouasws?’ Heasws said: ‘No, but you will remain steadfast’. Thenheasws turned towards me and said: ‘Ourasws matters are difficult, andbecome more difficult, none understand it nor accept it accept forthree – an Angel of Proximity, or a ‘Mursil Nabias’,[9] or a‘Momin’[10] whose heart was Tested with Eman[11] by Allahazwj. OAbu Al-Tufayl, when the Messenger of Allahsaww passed away, thepeople turned apostate by straying and ignorance, except for theones whom Allahazwj Protected by usasws, the Peopleaswsof theHousehold’.

So this is thecopy of the Book of Sulaym Bin Qays Al-Aamiry Al-Hilali, whichAbaan Bin Abu Ayyash handed over to me, and read it to me. AndAbaan mentioned that he had read it out to Aliasws Bin Al-Husaynasws, heasws said: ‘Sulaym spoke the truth, these areourasws Ahadith. Weasws recognise it’.

MOMENT OF HISsaww BLESSED LIFEقال سلیم: سمعت سلمان الفارسي یقول: كنت جالسا بین یدي رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله فيمرضه الذي قبض فیه. فدخلت فاطمة علیها السلام، فلما رأت ما برسول االله صلى االله علیه وآلهمن الضعف خنقتها العبرة حتى جرت دموعها على خدیها. فقال رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله: یا

بنیة، ما یبكیك؟ قالت: یا رسول االله، أخشى على نفسي وولدي الضیعة من بعدك.

Sulaym said: ‘I heard Salman Al-Farsyar say, ‘Iar was seated infront of the Messenger of Allahsaww during hissaww illness in whichhesaww passed away. Fatimaasws entered the chamber. Whensheasws saw the weak state of the Messenger of Allahsaww,sheasws almost suffocated and tears started flowing fromherasws cheeks. The Messenger of Allahsaww said: ‘O daughterasws,why are youasws crying?’ Sheasws said: ‘O Messenger of Allahsaww,Iasws fear for the destruction of myselfasws and myasws children afteryousaww’.

آل محمد علیهم السلام خیرة االله في أرضهفقال رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله - واغرورقت عیناه بالدموع -: یا فاطمة، أوما علمت إناأهل بیت اختار االله لنا الآخرة على الدنیا، وإنه حتم الفناء على جمیع خلقه وإن االله تبارك وتعالىاطلع إلى الأرض اطلاعة فاختارني منهم فجعلني نبیا. ثم اطلع إلى الأرض ثانیة فاختار بعلكوأمرني أن أزوجك إیاه، وأن أتخذه أخا ووزیرا ووصیا وأن أجعله خلیفتي في أمتي. فأبوك خیرأنبیاء االله ورسله، وبعلك خیر الأوصیاء والوزراء، وأنت أول من یلحقني من أهلي. ثم اطلع إلى

The Progenyasws ofMohammedsaww are the best of the

creation of Allahazwj in Hisazwj Earth -The Messenger of Allahsaww said, and hesaww had tears inhissaww eyes: ‘O Fatimaasws, don’t youasws know that Allahazwj hasChosen for usasws, the Peopleasws of the Household, the Hereafterinstead of the world, and destruction has been Ordained for allcreatures, and that Allahazwj Looked at the earth and Chosemesaww from them, and Made mesaww to be a Prophetsaww. ThenHeazwj Looked at the earth for a second time, and HeazwjChoseyourasws husband and Ordered mesaww to marry youasws tohimasws and Isaww took himasws as a brother, and a Vizierasws, andmade himasws to be mysaww Caliph in mysaww community.Yourasws fathersaww is the best of the Prophetsas of Allahazwj andHisazwj Messengersas, and yourasws husbandasws is the best of thesuccessorsas and the Viziers, and youasws will be the first one tomeet mesaww from mysaww Family. Then Heazwj looked at the earthfor a third time. Heazwj Chose youasws and eleven menasws fromyourasws sonsaswsand the sonsasws of mysaww brotherasws whoasws isyourasws husband’. The Prophetsaww thus gave the good news of thetwelve Imamsasws.فأنت سیدة نساء أهل الجنة وابناك الحسن والحسین سیدا شباب أهل الجنة، وأنا وأخي والأحدعشر إماما أوصیائي إلى یوم القیامة، كلهم هادون مهدیون. أول الأوصیاء بعد أخي، الحسن ثمالحسین، ثم تسعة من ولد الحسین في منزل واحد في الجنة. ولیس منزل أقرب إلى االله من منزلي

ثم منزل إبراهیم وآل إبراهیم.

‘So, O Fatimaasws, youasws are the leader of the women of theParadise, and yourasws two sonsasws Al-Hassanasws and Al-Husaynasws are the leaders of the youths of the Paradise, andIsaww and mysawwbrotherasws and eleven Imamsasws aremysaww successors up to the Day of Judgement, all ofthemasws being guides and guided onesasws. The firstsuccessorasws after mysaww brotherasws, is Al-Hassanasws, then Al-Husaynasws, then nine from the sons of Al-Husaynasws, will all be ofone and the same status in the Paradise. And there is no statusnearer to Allahazwj than mysaww status, then the status ofIbrahimas and the offspring of Ibrahimas’.

إكرام االله لفاطمة علیها السلامأما تعلمین - یا بنیة - أن من كرامة االله إیاك أن زوجك خیر أمتي وخیر أهل بیتي، أقدمهمسلما وأعظمهم حلما وأكثرهم علما وأكرمهم نفسا وأصدقهم لسانا وأشجعهم قلبا وأجودهم كفاوأزهدهم في الدنیا وأشدهم اجتهادا. فاستبشرت فاطمة علیها السلام بما قال لها رسول االله صلى االله

علیه وآله وفرحت.

The Honouring by Allahazwj ofFatimaasws –

The Messenger of Allahsaww said: ‘But, do youasws know, O daughter,that from the Honours of Allahazwj to youasws is thatyourasws husbandasws is the best of mysaww community and the bestof mysaww Family. Heaswsis the first to submit, and the greatest inforbearance, and the most knowledgeable, and the most prestigious,and the most truthful by hisasws tongue, and the most bravest of thehearts, and the most generous of the hands, and the most ascetic inthe world, and the severest of the strugglers’. Fatimaasws receivedthe good news by what the Messenger of Allahsaww had said toherasws, and she became happy’.

ثم قال لها رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله: إن لعلي بن أبي طالب ثمانیة أضراس ثواقب نوافذ،ومناقب لیست لأحد من الناس: إیمانه باالله وبرسوله قبل كل أحد ولم یسبقه إلى ذلك أحد من أمتي،وعلمه بكتاب االله وسنتي ولیس أحد من أمتي یعلم جمیع علمي غیر بعلك، لأن االله علمني علما لایعلمه غیري وغیره، ولم یعلم ملائكته ورسله وإنما علمه إیاي وأمرني االله أن أعلمه علیا ففعلتذلك. فلیس أحد من أمتي یعلم جمیع علمي وفهمي وفقهي كله غیره. وإنك - یا بنیة - زوجته، وإنابنیه سبطاي الحسن والحسین وهما سبطا أمتي. وأمره بالمعروف ونهیه عن المنكر، وإن االله

جل ثناؤه علمه الحكمة وفصل الخطاب.

Features of Amir-ul-Momineenasws –

Then the Messenger of Allahsaww said to herasws: ‘For Aliasws BinAbu Talibasws there are eight shining wonders and merits which arenot for anyone from the people: - Heasws believed in Allahazwj andHisazwjMessengersaww before anyone and heasws was not precededto that by anyone from mysaww community. Heasws knew the Book ofAllahazwj and mysaww Sunnah, and there is none frommysaww community who knows the whole of mysaww knowledge otherthan yourasws husbandasws, because Allahazwj Taught mesaww theknowledge. Heazwj did not Teach any one apart from mesaww andhimasws, and Hesaww did not Teach HisazwjAngels andHisazwj Messengerssa, but Heazwj Taught it to mesaww and Orderedmesaww to make it known to himasws, so Isaww did that. There is nonefrom mysaww community who knows the whole of mysaww knowledge,and mysaww understanding, and mysaww doctrine, all of it, apart fromhimasws. And youasws, O daughter, yourasws husbandasws, andyourasws two sonsasws, mysaww grandsonsasws, Al-Hassanasws and Al-Husaynasws, and they are bothasws the chosen ones ofmysaww community. And heasws enjoins the good and forbids from theevil, and that Allahazwj, Majestic is Hisazwj Glory, Taught himasws thewisdom and the intricacies of speech.

یا بنیة، إنا أهل بیت أعطانا االله سبع خصال لم یعطها أحدا من الأولین ولا أحدا من الآخرینغیرنا: أنا سید الأنبیاء والمرسلین وخیرهم، ووصیي خیر الوصیین، ووزیري بعدي خیر الوزراء،وشهیدنا خیر الشهداء أعني حمزة عمي. قالت: یا رسول االله، سید الشهداء الذین قتلوا معك؟ قال:

لا، بل سید الشهداء من الأولین والآخرین ما خلا الأنبیاء والأوصیاء.

The special features of thepeopleasws of the Household –

O daughter, weasws, the Peopleasws of the Household have beenGiven by Allahazwj seven qualities, which no one from the formerones nor from the later ones have been Given apart from usasws.Isaww am the chief of the Prophetsas and the Messengersas and thebest of themas, and mysaww successorasws is the best of thesuccessorsas, and mysaww vizier after mesaww is the best of theviziersas, and ourasws martyrs are the best of the martyrs, meaningmysaww uncle Hamza’. Sheasws said: ‘O Messenger of Allahsaww, thechief of those martyrs who were killed with yousaww?’ Hesaww said:‘No, but the chief of the martyrs from the former ones and the laterones, except for the Prophetsas and the successorsas.

وجعفر بن أبي طالب ذو الهجرتین وذو الجناحین المضرجین یطیر بهما مع الملائكة فيالجنة. وابناك الحسن والحسین سبطا أمتي وسیدا شباب أهل الجنة. ومنا - والذي نفسي بیده -مهدي هذه الأمة الذي یملأ االله به الأرض قسطا وعدلا كما ملئت ظلما وجورا. قالت فاطمة علیهاالسلام: یا رسول االله، فأي هؤلاء الذین سمیت أفضل؟ فقال رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله: أخيعلي أفضل أمتي، وحمزة وجعفر هذان أفضل أمتي بعد علي وبعدك وبعد ابني وسبطي الحسنوالحسین وبعد الأوصیاء من ولد ابني هذا - وأشار رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله بیده إلى الحسینعلیه السلام - منهم المهدي. والذي قبله أفضل منه، الأول خیر من الآخر لأنه إمامه والآخر وصي

الأول. إنا أهل بیت اختار االله لنا الآخرة على الدنیا.

And Ja’faras Bin Abu Talibas, the one whoas migrated twice, andthe one with two coloured wings with which hesa flies with the Angelsin the Paradise. And yourasws two sonsasws are the chosen ones of

mysawwcommunity and the chiefs of the youths of the Paradise. Bythe Oneazwj in Whose Hand is mysaww soul, from usasws is theGuided One (Al-Mahdiasws) of this community bywhomasws Allahazwj will Fill the earth with fairness and justice just asit had been filled with injustice and oppression’.

Fatimaasws said: ‘O Messenger of Allahsaww, of all those thatyousaww have named, which one is the best?’ The Messenger ofAllahsaww said: ‘Mysaww brother Aliasws is the best ofmysaww community, and Hamzaas and Ja’faras, these twoas are thebest of mysaww community after Aliasws, and after youasws, and aftermyasws two sonsasws and mysaww two grandsonsasws Al-Hassanasws and Al-Husaynasws,[12] and after the successorsaswsfromthe sonsasws of this sonasws of minesaww’ – and the Messenger ofAllahsaww indicated by hissaww hand towards Al-Husaynasws – ‘fromthemasws is The Guided One (Al-Mahdiasws), and the oneasws beforehimasws is higher than himasws. The former oneasws is better than thelater oneasws because heasws is hisasws Imamasws, and the lateroneasws is hisasws successorasws of the former oneasws. For usasws thePeopleasws of the Household, Allahazwj has Chosen the Hereafterinstead of the world.

إخبار النبي صلى االله علیه وآله بتظاهر الأمة على علي علیه السلام من بعدهثم نظر رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله إلى فاطمة وإلى بعلها وإلى ابنیها فقال: یا سلمان، أشهداالله أني حرب لمن حاربهم وسلم لمن سالمهم. أما إنهم معي في الجنة. ثم أقبل النبي صلى االله علیهوآله على علي علیه السلام فقال: یا علي، إنك ستلقي بعدي من قریش شدة، من تظاهرهم علیكوظلمهم لك. فإن وجدت أعوانا علیهم فجاهدهم وقاتل من خالفك بمن وافقك، فإن لم تجد أعوانافاصبر وكف یدك ولا تلق بیدك إلى التهلكة، فإنك مني بمنزلة هارون من موسى، ولك بهارون

أسوة حسنة. إنه قال لأخیه موسى: (إن القوم استضعفوني وكادوا یقتلونني).

Aliasws after himsaww -Then the Messenger of Allahsaww looked towards Fatimaasws,herasws husbandasws, and herasws two sonsasws. Hesaww said: ‘OSalmanar, Isaww testify to Allahazwj as mysaww Witness that Isaww amat war with the one who is at war with themasws, and at peace withthe one who is at peace with themasws. But, theyasws will be withmesaww in the Paradise. Then the Prophetsaww addressed Aliasws.Hesaww said: ‘O Aliasws, after mesaww, youasws will face severities fromthe Quraish from their revolt against youasws and injustices towardsyouasws. If youasws find ‘Al-Ansar’ then fight them and kill the one whoopposes youasws including the one who agrees with them(yourasws enemies). If youasws do not find ‘Al-Ansar’, observepatience, and withhold yourasws hand, and do not let yourasws handsmeet with destruction, for youasws are with mesaww of the status ofHaroonsa with Musasa, and for youasws is the best example ofHaroonsa where heas said to hissa brother Musasa “[7:150] Son ofmy mother! the people did indeed reckon me as weak, and wereclose to slaying me!”

HADITH 2(2) تظاهر الأمة على علي علیه السلام بعد رسول االله (ص)

WHAT WILL MANIFEST FROM THENATION TO ALIasws AFTER THE

MESSENGER OF ALLAHsaww

قال سلیم: وحدثني علي بن أبي طالب علیه السلام قال: كنت أمشي مع رسول االله صلى االله علیهوآله في بعض طرق المدینة. فأتینا على حدیقة فقلت: یا رسول االله، ما أحسنها من حدیقة قال: ماأحسنها ولك في الجنة أحسن منها. ثم أتینا على حدیقة أخرى، فقلت: یا رسول االله، ما أحسنها منحدیقة قال: ما أحسنها ولك في الجنة أحسن منها. حتى أتینا على سبع حدائق، أقول: یا رسول االله،

ما أحسنها ویقول: لك في الجنة أحسن منها.

Sulaym said: ‘And narrated to me Aliasws Bin AbuTalibasws saying: ‘Iasws was walking with the Messenger ofAllahsaww in one of the roads of Al-Medina. Weasws came to agarden. Iasws said: ‘O Messenger of Allahsaww, what a beautifulgarden it is’. Hesaww said: ‘What a beauty it is, and for youasws in theParadise is better than it’. Then weasws came to another garden.Iasws said: ‘‘O Messenger of Allahsaww, what a beautiful garden it is’.Hesaww said: ‘What a beauty it is, and for youasws in the Paradise isbetter than it’. To the extent that weaswscame across seven gardens.Iasws kept saying: ‘What a beauty it is’, and hesaww kept saying: ‘Foryouasws, in the Paradise, is better than it’.

فلما خلا له الطریق اعتنقني، ثم أجهش باكیا فقال: بأبي الوحید الشهید فقلت: یا رسول االله، مایبكیك؟ فقال: ضغائن في صدور أقوام لا یبدونها لك إلا من بعدي، أحقاد بدر وترات أحد. قلت: في

سلامة من دیني؟ قال: في سلامة من دینك.

Aliasws the martyr, the only, theunique –

When weasws left the road, hesaww embraced measws, hesaww begancrying. Hesaww said: ‘May mysawwfatheras be sacrificed for the lonelymartyr’. Iasws said: ‘O Messenger of Allahsaww, what makesyousaww cry?’ Hesaww said: ‘There are grudges in the chests of thepeople that will not be manifested to youasws except after mesaww,malice of Badr and enmity of Ohad’. Iasws said: ‘Will myasws Religionbe intact?’ Hesaww said: ‘YouraswsReligion will be intact’.

برنامج النبي علیه السلام لعلي صلى االله علیه وآلهفابشر یا علي، فإن حیاتك وموتك معي، وأنت أخي وأنت وصیي وأنت صفیي ووزیريووارثي والمؤدي عني، وأنت تقضي دیني وتنجز عداتي عني، وأنت تبرء ذمتي وتؤدي أمانتيوتقاتل على سنتي الناكثین من أمتي والقاسطین والمارقین، وأنت مني بمنزلة هارون من موسى،

ولك بهارون أسوة حسنة إذ استضعفه قومه وكادوا یقتلونه.

The program of the Prophetsaww forAliasws –

Hesaww gave the good news: ‘O Aliasws, yourasws life andyourasws death is with mesaww, and youasws are mysaww brother, and

youasws are mysaww successorasws, and mysaww choice, andmysaww vizier, and mysawwinheritor, and mysaww caller from mesaww,and youasws are the fulfiller of mysaww debts, and the fulfiller ofmysaww promises, and youasws completer of mysaww responsibilities,and the returner of mysaww trusts, and the fighter on mysaww Sunnahagainst the breakers (of the covenant) of mysaww community, theunjust and the renegades, and youasws are of the status withmesaww as Haroonsa had with Musasa, and for youasws are the bestexample of Haroonsa when hissa people considered himas to be weakand were very close to killing himas’.

فاصبر لظلم قریش إیاك وتظاهرهم علیك، فإنك بمنزلة هارون من موسى ومن تبعه وهمبمنزلة العجل ومن تبعه. وإن موسى أمر هارون حین استخلفه علیهم: إن ضلوا فوجد أعوانا أن

یجاهدهم بهم، وإن لم یجد أعوانا أن یكف یده ویحقن دمه ولا یفرق بینهم.

So, observe patience on the injustices of the Qureysh uponyouasws and their protests against youasws, for youasws are of thestatus, which Haroonas had with Musaas, and those that follow them(yourasws opponents) are of the status of the one who followed thecalf. And Musaas ordered Haroonas to be the Caliph to them sayingthat if they were to stray, and if heas should find ‘Al-Ansar’heas should fight against them, and if heas does not find ‘Al-Ansar’,heas should withhold hisas hand and save hisas blood, and not createdifferences between them.

إختلاف الأمة امتحان إلهي یا علي، ما بعث االله رسولا إلا وأسلم معه قوم طوعا وقوم آخرونكرها، فسلط االله الذین أسلموا كرها على الذین أسلموا طوعا فقتلوهم لیكون أعظم لأجورهم. یاعلي، وإنه ما اختلفت أمة بعد نبیها إلا ظهر أهل باطلها على أهل حقها، وإن االله قضى الفرقةوالاختلاف على هذه الأمة، ولو شاء لجمعهم على الهدى حتى لا یختلف اثنان من خلقه ولا یتنازع

في شيء من أمره، ولا یجحد المفضول ذا الفضل فضله.

The differences, which are in the nation, are a Test of Allahazwj. OAliasws! Allahazwj did not Send a Messengeras (to a nation) exceptthat a group submitted (to himas) willingly and another group

submitted (to himas) reluctantly. Allahazwj Made the reluctant group toovercome the willing group. They killed them and their (the willinggroup’s) Rewards were magnified. O Aliasws, no community differedafter its Prophetas except that the people of falsehood overcame thepeople of the truth, and Allahazwj has Ordained sects and differenceson this community, and had Heazwj so Desired, Heazwj could haveGathered them all on Guidance until no two from Hisazwj creatureswould have differed, nor disputed regarding anything from theCommands, nor would the lowers ones fought against the higherones for their status.

ولو شاء عجل النقمة فكان منه التغییرحتى یكذب الظالم ویعلم الحق أین مصیره، ولكن جعلالدنیا دار الأعمال وجعل الآخرة دار القرار، (لیجزي الذین أساؤوا بما عملوا ویجزي الذین

أحسنوا بالحسنى). فقلت: الحمد الله شكرا على نعمائه وصبرا على بلائه وتسلیما ورضى بقضائه.

If Heazwj so Desired Heazwj could have acceleratedHisazwj Revenge to change them until the unjust would come to knowwhere the truth lay, but Heazwj has Made the world to be a house ofthe deeds, and Made the Hereafter the house of theresolution’. “[53:31] that He may reward those who do evilaccording to what they do, and (that) He may reward those whodo good with goodness”. Iasws said: ‘Praise be to Allahazwj.Iaswsthank Allahazwj on Hisazwj Bounties, and am Patient onHisazwj Afflictions, and have submitted, and am pleased withHisazwj Judgement’.

HADITH 3(3) قضایا السقیفة على لسان البراء بن عازب

THE HAPPENINGS AT AL-SAQIFA BYTHE TONGUE OF BARA’A BIN AAZIB

وعن سلیم، قال: سمعت البراء بن عازب یقول: كنت أحب بني هاشم حبا شدیدا في حیاة رسول االلهصلى االله علیه وآله وبعد وفاته.

And from Sulaym who said, ‘I heard Al-Bara’a Bin Aazib say, ‘Iloved the Clan of Hashim with extreme love during the lifetime of theMessenger of Allahsaww and after hissaww passing away.

كیفیة تغسیل رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآلهفلما قبض رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله أوصى علیا علیه السلام أن لا یلي غسله غیره، وأنهلا ینبغي لأحد أن یرى عورته غیره، وأنه لیس أحد یرى عورة رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله إلاذهب بصره. فقال علي علیه السلام: یا رسول االله، فمن یعینني على غسلك؟ قال: جبرائیل فيجنود من الملائكة. فكان علي علیه السلام یغسله، والفضل بن العباس مربوط العینین یصب الماءوالملائكة یقلبونه له كیف شاء. ولقد أراد علي علیه السلام أن ینزع قمیص رسول االله صلى االلهعلیه وآله، فصاح به صائح: (لا تنزع قمیص نبیك، یا علي). فأدخل یده تحت القمیص فغسله ثم

حنطه وكفنه، ثم نزع القمیص عند تكفینه وتحنیطه.

The manner of the washing of theMessenger of Allahsaww -

When the Messenger of Allahsaww passed away, hesaww bequeathedto Aliasws that no one should wash himsaww apart from himasws, and it

does not befit anyone that he should see hissaww body parts otherthan himasws, and that there is no one who would look at the bodyparts of the Messenger of Allahsaww except that his eyesight will belost. Aliasws said: ‘O Messenger of Allahsaww, who will be helpingmeasws for washing yousaww?’ Hesaww said: ‘Jibraeel and the armiesof the Angels’. Aliasws washed himsaww, and Fazl Bin Abbas with hiseyes covered, poured the water, and the Angels used to turnhimsaww however was needed. And Aliasws has the intention toremove the shirt of the Messenger of Allahsaww. A shout came from ayeller: ‘Do not remover the shirt of yourasws Prophetsaww, O Aliasws!’Heasws entered hisasws hand under the shirt, washed himsaww, thenembalmed himsaww and shrouded himsaww, then heasws removed theshirt from within hissaww shroud and hissaww embalming’.

مفاجأة أهل البیت علیهم السلام بعمل أصحاب السقیفةقال البراء بن عازب: فلما قبض رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله تخوفت أن تتظاهر قریشعلى إخراج هذا الأمر من بني هاشم. فلما صنع الناس ما صنعوا من بیعة أبي بكر أخذني ما یأخذالواله الثكول مع ما بي من الحزن لوفاة رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله. فجعلت أتردد وأرمق

وجوه الناس، وقد خلا الهاشمیون برسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله لغسله وتحنیطه.

Surprise of the Peopleasws of theHousehold at the deeds of the

companions of the Saqifa -Bara’a Bin Aazib said, ‘When the Messenger of Allahsaww passedaway; I feared that the Quraish will take this matter (Caliphate) awayfrom the Clan of Hashim. When the people did what they did bypledging allegiance to Abu Bakr, I was overcome by what a motherwhose young son dies gets overcome by, along with the grief of thepassing away of the Messenger of Allahsaww. I reluctantly went tolook at the faces of the people, and the Hashimites were engrossed

with the washing of the Messenger of Allahsaww andhissaww embalming.

وقد بلغني الذي كان من قول سعد بن عبادة ومن اتبعه من جهلة أصحابه، فلم أحفل بهموعلمت أنه لا یؤول إلى شيء. فجعلت أتردد بینهم وبین المسجد وأتفقد وجوه قریش. فإني لكذلك إذفقدت أبا بكر وعمر. ثم لم ألبث حتى إذا أنا بأبي بكر وعمر وأبي عبیدة قد أقبلوا في أهل السقیفةوهم محتجزون بالأزر الصنعانیة لا یمر بهم أحد إلا خبطوه، فإذا عرفوه مدوا یده فمسحوها على

ید أبي بكر، شاء ذلك أم أبىAnd it had reached to me, that which Sa’d Bin Abada and those

that followed him from the ignorant ones of his companions had said.I never participated with them and knew that it will not achieveanything. I reluctantly went to be between them and the Masjid, and Ilooked at the faces of the Qureish. I lost track of Abu Bakr and Umar.Then, I did not see them until later. Abu Bakr, and Umar, and AbuUbeyda came in with the people of Al-Saqifa, and they were wearingthe ‘San’aniya’ shirt, and there was no one that they would pass by,but would get confused. If they recognised someone, they wouldmake him extend his hand and rub it against the hand of Abu Bakr,whether he liked that, or refused’.

فأنكرت عند ذلك عقلي جزعا منه، مع المصیبة برسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله. فخرجتمسرعا حتى أتیت المسجد، ثم أتیت بني هاشم، والباب مغلق دونهم. فضربت الباب ضربا عنیفاوقلت: یا أهل البیت فخرج إلي الفضل بن العباس، فقلت: قد بایع الناس أبا بكر فقال العباس: (قد

تربت أیدیكم منها إلى آخر الدهر. أما إني قد أمرتكم فعصیتموني).My mind did not accept that due to the anxiety from it, along with

the calamity of the passing away of the Messenger of Allahsaww. Iwent out quickly until I came to the Masjid, then I came up to theClan of Hashim, and the door was closed, with no one there. Iknocked on the door violently and said, ‘O Peopleasws of theHousehold!’ Fazl Ibn Abbas came out. I said, ‘The people havepledged allegiance to Abu Bakr’. Al-Abbas said, ‘You have raisedyour hands from it (Caliphate) till the end of times. But, I had askedyou to take it (Caliphate) but you disobeyed me’.

ما جرى بین صالحي الصحابة لیلة السقیفة

فكمثت أكابد ما في نفسي. فلما كان اللیل خرجت إلى المسجد، فلما صرت فیه تذكرت أنيكنت أسمع همهمة رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله بالقرآن. فانبعثت من مكاني فخرجت نحو الفضاء- فضاء بني بیاضة -، فوجدت نفرا یتناجون. فلما دنوت منهم سكتوا، فانصرفت عنهم، فعرفونيوما عرفتهم، فدعوني إلیهم فأتیتهم فإذا المقداد وأبو ذر وسلمان وعمار بن یاسر وعبادة بنالصامت وحذیفة بن الیمان والزبیر بن العوام، وحذیفة یقول: واالله لیفعلن ما أخبرتكم به. فواالله ما

كذبت ولا كذبت. وإذا القوم یریدون أن یعیدوا الأمر شورى بین المهاجرین والأنصار.

What transpired between the rightfulcompanions on the night of Al-Saqifa

-I was remorseful in myself of what had happened. When it was night-time I went out to the Masjid. When I was inside it I rememberedhaving heard the humming of the Messenger of Allahsaww reciting theQuran. I got up from my place and went to a place – the place of theClan of Bayaaza. I found a number of people whispering to eachother. When I approached them, they became silent. I went awayfrom them. They had recognised me, and I had not recognised them.They called me over to them’. I came up to them, and there was Al-Miqdadar, and Abu Dharrar, and Salmanar, and Ammar Bin Yaaserar,and Abaadat Bin Al-Saamit, and Huzayfa Bin Al-Yamanyar, and Al-Zubayr Bin Al-Awaam, and Huzyafaar was saying, ‘By Allahazwj, hewill do what I had informed you all that he will do, for by Allahazwj, Ihave not lied to you, nor have I been lied to. And the people want tohave this matter referred to the assembly of the ‘al-Mahajir’ and the‘Al-Ansar’’.

فقال حذیفة: انطلقوا بنا إلى أبي بن كعب فقد علم مثل ما علمت. فانطلقنا إلى أبي بن كعبفضربنا علیه بابه، فأتى حتى صار خلف الباب، ثم قال: من أنتم؟ فكلمه المقداد. فقال: ما جاء بكم؟فقال: إفتح بابك، فإن الأمر الذي جئنا فیه أعظم من أن یجري وراء الباب. فقال: ما أنا بفاتح بابي،وقد علمت ما جئتم له. وما أنا بفاتح بابي، كأنكم أردتم النظر في هذا العقد. فقلنا: نعم. فقال: أفیكمحذیفة؟ فقلنا: نعم. قال: القول ما قال حذیفة، فأما أنا فلا أفتح بابي حتى یجري على ما هو جار

علیه، ولما یكون بعدها شر منها، وإلى االله جل ثنائه المشتكى. قال: فرجعوا. ثم دخل أبي بن كعببیته.

Huzayfaar said, ‘Come with me to Abay Bin Ka’ab (house), as heknows similar to what I know’. We went to Abay Bin Ka’ab. Weknocked on his door. He came but stood behind the door, then said,‘Who are you all?’ Hearsaid, ‘Al-Miqdadar ‘. He (Abay) said, ‘Whathave you come here for?’ Hear said, ‘Open your door’ for the matterwhich we have come for (to discuss) is greater than to be discussedfrom behind the door’. He said, ‘I will not open my door, and I knowwhat you have come for, and I will not open my door, it is as if youwant this pact (allegiance to Abu Bakr) to be reconsidered’.

We said, ‘Yes’. He said, ‘Is Huzayfaar among you?’ We said,‘Yes’. He said, ‘I say what Huzayfaar says, but, I will not open mydoor until that, which has happened to himar, happens to me, andwhat will be happening after it (allegiance) is more evil than it. And itis to Allahazwj, Majestic is Hisazwj Praise, that I complain to’. Wereturned. Then Abay Bin Ka’ab entered into his house.'

محاولة أصحاب السقیفة تطمیع العباس في الخلافة

قال: وبلغ أبا بكر وعمر الخبر، فأرسلا إلى أبي عبیدة بن الجراح والمغیرة بن شعبة فسألاهماالرأي. فقال المغیرة بن شعبة: أرى أن تلقوا العباس بن عبد المطلب فتطمعوه في أن یكون له فيهذا الأمر نصیب یكون له ولعقبه من بعده فتقطعوا عنكم بذلك ناحیة علي بن أبي طالب، فإنالعباس بن عبد المطلب لو صار معكم كانت الحجة على الناس وهان علیكم أمر علي بن أبي طالب

وحده.

And the news reached Abu Bakr and Umar. They sent forUbeydullah Ibn Jarrah, and Al-Mugheira Bin Sha’ba. They askedthem both for them opinions. Al-Mugheira Bin Sha’ba said, ‘Myopinion is that you should meet Al-Abbas Bin Abdul Muttalib. Youshould entice him with regard to this that there will be a share for himin this matter, for him as well as for those after him. By that you willbe able to cut him off Aliasws Bin Abu Talibaswsand sideline himasws,for if Al-Abbas Bin Abdul Muttalib comes with you, it will be the proofover the people, and the matter will becomes easier for you, asAliasws Bin Abu Talibasws would end up being alone’.

قال: فانطلق أبو بكر وعمر وأبو عبیدة بن الجراح والمغیرة بن شعبة حتى دخلوا على العباسبن عبد المطلب في اللیلة الثانیة من وفاة رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله. قال: فتكلم أبو بكر فحمداالله جل وعز وأثنى علیه ثم قال: إن االله بعث لكم محمدا نبیا وللمؤمنین ولیا، فمن االله علیهم بكونهبین ظهرانیهم، حتى اختار له ما عنده وترك للناس أمرهم لیختاروا لأنفسهم مصلحتهم، متفقین لامختلفین. فاختاروني علیهم والیا ولأمورهم راعیا، فتولیت ذلك. وما أخاف بعون االله وهنا ولاحیرة ولا جبنا، وما توفیقي إلا باالله. غیر أني لا أنفك من طاعن یبلغني فیقول بخلاف قول العامة،فیتخذكم لجأ فتكونون حصنه المنیع وخطبه البدیع، فإما دخلتم مع الناس فیما اجتمعوا علیه أوصرفتموهم عما مالوا إلیه. فقد جئناك ونحن نرید أن نجعل لك في هذا الأمر نصیبا یكون لكولعقبك من بعدك، إذ كنت عم رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله، وإن كان الناس أیضا قد رأوا مكانك

ومكان صاحبك فعدلوا بهذا الأمر عنكما.

Abu Bakr, and Umar, and Abu Ubeyda Bin Al-Jarrah, and Al-Mugheira Bin Sha’ba went to Al-Abbas Bin Abdul Muttalib on thesecond night from the passing away of the Messenger of Allahsaww.Abu Bakr spoke. He Thanked Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic andPraised Himazwj. Then he said, ‘Allahazwj Sent to youMohammedsaww as a Prophetsaww and a Guardian for the believers.Hesaww was from Allahazwj to them for what Allahazwj had Chosenhimasws for what Heazwj had, and left the people to chose forthemselves for their own affairs, in a united manner, not disputingwith each other. They chose me as a guardian to oversee theiraffairs. I took over that (responsibility). By the Help of Allahazwj, Ihave no fear here, nor am I confused, nor a coward, and there is noReconciliation except by Allahazwj. However, the taunts havereached me. They are saying against what the general public has

said. They will come to you for shelter and take you as a fortress andmagnificent speeches. So, you will either enter along with the peoplein what they have formed a consensus on, or turn them towards you.We have come to you, and we want you to have a share in thismatter (Caliphate) to be for you and those to come after you. This isbecause you are the uncle of the Messenger of Allahsaww, and thepeople as well have seen your position, and the position of yourcompanion. They have decided to keep this matter away from bothof you (Abbas and Amir-ul-Momineenasws)’.

فقال عمر: أي واالله، وأخرى یا بني هاشم على رسلكم، فإن رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله مناومنكم، وإنا لم نأتكم لحاجة منا إلیكم، ولكن كرهنا أن یكون الطعن فیما اجتمع علیه المسلمون،

فیتفاقم الخطب بكم وبهم. فانظروا لأنفسكم وللعامة. ثم سكت.

Umar said, ‘Yes, by Allahazwj, and secondly, O Clan of Hashim,on your Messengersaww. The Messenger of Allahsaww is from us andfrom you, and we have not come to you due to our need for you, butwe do not like the people taunting us over what the Muslims haveformed a consensus on, and the situation gets aggravated betweenyou and them. Look at (the benefits) for yourself and for the people’.Then he became silent’.

مواجهة العباس لمؤامرة أصحاب السقیفةفتكلم العباس فقال: إن االله تبارك وتعالى ابتعث محمدا صلى االله علیه وآله - كما وصفت - نبیاوللمؤمنین ولیا، فإن كنت برسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله طلبت هذا الأمر فحقنا أخذت، وإن كنتبالمؤمنین طلبت فنحن من المؤمنین، ما تقدمنا في أمرك ولا تشاورنا ولا تآمرنا ولا نحب لك ذلك،إذ كنا من المؤمنین وكنا لك من الكارهین. وأما قولك (أن تجعل لي في هذا الأمر نصیبا)، فإن كانهذا الأمر لك خاصة فأمسك علیك فلسنا محتاجین إلیك وإن كان حق المؤمنین فلیس لك أن تحكمفي حقهم دونهم، وإن كان حقنا فإنا لا نرضى منك ببعضه دون بعض. وأما قولك یا عمر (إنرسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله منا ومنكم)، فإن رسول االله شجرة نحن أغصانها وأنتم جیرانها،فنحن أولى به منكم. وأما قولك (إنا نخاف تفاقم الخطب بكم وبنا)، فهذا الذي فعلتموه أوائل ذلك،

واالله المستعان.

Al-Abbas spoke. He said, ‘Allahazwj Blessed and High SentMohammedsaww – as you have described – A Prophetsaww and aGuardian for the believers. If you have sought this matter (Caliphate)

by the Messenger of Allahsaww, you have taken our right. And if youhave sought this by the believers, we are also from the believers.You did not present to us regarding your matter, and you did notconsult with us, nor did you tell us about it, and we do not like youdue to that.

We are also from the believers, and we are from those that hateyou for this. And as for your words, that you will have a share for mein this matter, if this matter is especially for you, you can keep it, forwe are not needy of you. And if this matter is the right of thebelievers, then it is not for you to pass a Judgement in the rights ofothers. And if this is our right, we are not happy with a part of itwithout the other parts. And as for your word, O Umar, that theMessenger of Allahsaww is from us and from you, the Messenger ofAllahsaww is a tree and we are its branches, and you are in its vicinity,for we are the first ones for it, rather than you. And as for your wordsthat you are afraid it would aggravate the situation between us andthem, this is which you have already done earlier, and Allahazwj is theHelper’.

فخرجوا من عنده وأنشأ العباس یقول: ما كنت أحسب هذا الأمر منحرفا * عن هاشم ثم منهمعن أبي حسن ألیس أول من صلى لقبلتكم * وأعلم الناس بالآثار والسنن وأقرب الناس عهدا بالنبيومن * جبریل عون له في الغسل والكفن من فیه ما في جمیع الناس كلهم * ولیس في الناس ما فیه

من الحسن من ذا الذي ردكم عنه فنعرفه * ها إن بیعتكم من أول الفتن

They went out from his presence, and Al-Abbas recited a eulogy.He said, ‘Don’t think that this matter will pass away from Hashim,then from Abu Al-Hassanasws. Was heasws not the first one to Pray toyour Qiblah? And heasws is the most knowledgeable one of thepeople, of the effects and the Sunnah, and the nearest of the people,and heasws was alone with the Prophetsaww being helped by Jibraeelduring the washing and the shrouding, and heasws has all the meritsthat all the people have put together, and there is nothing in thepeople what is within himasws from the merits. I know that, which youhave kept away from him. This allegiance of your is the first of theseditions’.

ISSUES OF AL-SAQIFA BY THETONGUE OF SALMAN AL-FARSiar

) 1 ( احتجاج الأنصار على أهل السقیفةوعن أبان بن أبي عیاش عن سلیم بن قیس قال: سمعت سلمان الفارسي قال: لما أن قبضالنبي صلى االله علیه وآله وصنع الناس ما صنعوا جاءهم أبو بكر وعمر وأبو عبیدة بن الجراحفخاصموا الأنصار فخصموهم بحجة علي علیه السلام فقالوا: یا معاشر الأنصار، قریش أحقبالأمر منكم لأن رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله من قریش، والمهاجرون خیر منكم لأن االله بدأ بهم

في كتابه وفضلهم وقد قال رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله: (الأئمة من قریش).

1 – Argumentation of the ‘Al-Ansar’against the people of Al-Saqifa -

And from Abaan Bin Abu Ayyash, from Sulaym Bin Qays who said, ‘Iheard Salman Al-Farsyar say, ‘When the Messenger ofAllahsaww passed away, and the people did what they did, Abu Bakr,and Umar, and Abu Ubeyda Bin Al-Jarrah antagonised the ‘Al-Ansar’[13]. They (the ‘Al-Ansar’) antagonised them by the proof ofAliasws. So they said, ‘O group of ‘Al-Ansar’, the Qureysh are morerightful for this matter (Caliphate) than you because the Messengerof Allahsaww is from the Qureysh, and the ‘al-Mahajir’ are better thanyou because Allahazwj Began with them in Hisazwj Book, and Extolled

their preferences, and the Messenger of Allahsaww has said: ‘TheImamsasws will be from the Qureish’.’

كیفیة تغسیل النبي صلى االله علیه وآله والصلاة علیهقال سلمان: فأتیت علیا علیه السلام وهو یغسل رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله. وقد كان رسولاالله صلى االله علیه وآله أوصى علیا علیه السلام أن لا یلي غسله غیره. فقال: یا رسول االله، فمنیعینني على ذلك؟ فقال: (جبرائیل). فكان علي علیه السلام لا یرید عضوا إلا قلب له. فلما غسلهوحنطه وكفنه أدخلني وأدخل أبا ذر والمقداد وفاطمة والحسن والحسین علیهم السلام. فتقدم عليعلیه السلام وصففنا خلفه وصلى علیه، وعائشة في الحجرة لا تعلم قد أخذ االله ببصرها. ثم أدخلعشرة من المهاجرین وعشرة من الأنصار، فكانوا یدخلون ویدعون ویخرجون، حتى لم یبق أحد

شهد من المهاجرین والأنصار إلا صلى علیه.

The manner of the washing of theProphetsaww and the Prayer over

himsaww

Salmanar said, ‘Iar came to Aliasws and heasws had washed theMessenger of Allahsaww. And the Messenger of Allahsaww hadbequeathed to Aliasws that no one else should wash himsaww.Heasws had said: ‘O Messenger of Allahsaww, who will help measws forthat?’ Hesaww had said: ‘Jibraeel’. Aliasws had not wanted anyoneexcept for turning himsaww’.

When heasws has washed himsaww, and shrouded himsaww,Iar entered, along with Abu Dharrar, and Al-Miqdadar, and Fatimaasws,and Al-Hassanasws and Al-Husaynasws. Aliasws came forward, and weformed a row behind himasws and Prayed for himsaww, and Aisha wasin the chamber and was unaware, for as Allahazwj had Taken hervision. Then ten from the ‘al-Mahajir’[14] and ten from the ‘Al-Ansar’at a time were entering, and Praying and leaving, until there did not

remain anyone who had witnessed from the ‘al-Mahajir’ and the ‘Al-Ansar’, except that he had Prayed for himsaww’.

أفراد قلائل بایعوا أبا بكرقال سلمان الفارسي: فأخبرت علیا علیه السلام - وهو یغسل رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله -بما صنع القوم، وقلت: إن أبا بكر الساعة لعلى منبر رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله، ما یرضونیبایعونه بید واحدة وإنهم لیبایعونه بیدیه جمیعا بیمینه وشماله فقال علي علیه السلام: یا سلمان،وهل تدري من أول من بایعه على منبر رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله؟ قلت: لا، إلا أني رأیته فيظلة بني ساعدة حین خصمت الأنصار، وكان أول من بایعه المغیرة بن شعبة ثم بشیربن سعید ثمأبو عبیدة الجراح ثم عمر بن الخطاب ثم سالم مولى أبي حذیفة ومعاذ بن جبل. قال علیه السلام:لست أسألك عن هؤلاء، ولكن هل تدري من أول من بایعه حین صعد المنبر؟ قلت: لا، ولكنيرأیت شیخا كبیرا یتوكأ على عصاه، بین عینیه سجادة شدیدة التشمیر، صعد المنبر أول من صعدوخر وهو یبكي ویقول: (الحمد الله الذي لم یمتني حتى رأیتك في هذا المكان، ابسط یدك). فبسط یدهفبایعه، ثم قال: (یوم كیوم آدم) ثم نزل فخرج من المسجد. فقال علي علیه السلام: یا سلمان، أتدريمن هو؟ قلت: لا، لقد ساءتني مقالته كأنه شامت بموت رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله. قال علي

علیه السلام: فإن ذلك إبلیس لعنه االله.

A few people paid allegiance to AbuBakr

Salmanar said, ‘Iar informed Aliasws of what the people had donewhilst heasws was washing the Messenger of Allahsaww, and Iar saidthat, ‘Abu Bakr is at this time on the Pulpit of the Messenger ofAllahsaww, and the people are not happy with pledging allegiancewith one hand, but are pledging their allegiance with both of theirhands, right and left’. Aliasws said: ‘O Salmanar, do you know whowas the first one to pledge allegiance to him on the Pulpit of theMessenger of Allahsaww?’ I said, ‘No, except that I saw himla in theshade of the Clan of Sa’da when the ‘Al-Ansar’ were excluded, andthat the first one who pledged allegiance to him was Al-Mugheira BinSha’ba, then Basheer Bin Saeed, then Abu Ubeyda Al-Jarrah, thenUmar Bin Al-Khattab, then Saalim Mowla Abu Huzayfa, and Ma’azBin Jabal.

Aliasws said: ‘Iasws am not asking you about those ones, but doyou know the one who was the first one to pledge allegiance to himwhen he ascended the Pulpit?’ I said, ‘No, but Iar saw an old personleaning on a staff, with a severe mark of prostration betweenhisla eyes, climbed upon the Pulpit first, and came down and saidwhilst weeping, ‘Praise is due to Allahazwj who did not Cause mela todie until Ila saw you in this place. Extend your hand!’ He extended hishand, and hela paid allegiance to him, then said, ‘This day is like theday of Adamsa’, then came down and went out of the Masjid’.Aliasws said: ‘O Salmanar, do you know who hela was?’ Iar said, ‘No,but hisla talk displeased mear, it was as if hela was gloating at thepassing away of the Messenger of Allahsaww’. Aliasws said: ‘That wasIbleesla, may the Curse of Allahazwj be upon himla.

إبلیس ینتقم بالسقیفة من یوم الغدیرأخبرني رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله: إن إبلیس ورؤساء أصحابه شهدوا نصب رسول االلهصلى االله علیه وآله إیاي یوم غدیر خم بأمر االله، وأخبرهم بأني أولى بهم من أنفسهم وأمرهم أنیبلغ الشاهد الغائب. فأقبل إلى إبلیس أبالسته ومردة أصحابه فقالوا: (إن هذه الأمة أمة مرحومةمعصومة، فما لك ولا لنا علیهم سبیل، وقد أعلموا مفزعهم وإمامهم بعد نبیهم). فانطلق إبلیس كئیبا

حزینا.

Ibleesla avenged the Day of Al-Ghadeer by Al-Saqifa

(Aliasws said) The Messenger of Allahsaww informed me thatIbleesla and the leaders of hisla companions witnessed theMessenger of Allahsaww establish measws on the Day of GhadeerKhumm by the Order of Allahazwj, and informed them that Iasws washigher than their own selves and ordered them that those who havewitnessed it should make this reach to those who are not present.The devils and the castaway of Ibleesla came to himla. They said,

‘This community is now a community which is under Mercy andimpeccable, there is no way to them for either youla or for us, andthey have come to know their Imamasws after their Prophetsaww.Ibleeslaturned back gloomy and sad.

قال أمیر المؤمنین علیه السلام: أخبرني رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله بعد ذلك وقال: یبایعالناس أبا بكر في ظلة بني ساعدة بعد تخاصمهم بحقنا وحجتنا. ثم یأتون المسجد فیكون أول منیبایعه على منبري إبلیس في صورة شیخ كبیر مشمر یقول كذا وكذا. ثم یخرج فیجمع أصحابهوشیاطینه وأبالسته فیخرون سجدا فیقولون: (یا سیدنا، یا كبیرنا، أنت الذي أخرجت آدم من الجنة).فیقول: أي أمة لن تضل بعد نبیها؟ كلا، زعمتم أن لیس لي علیهم سلطان ولا سبیل؟ فكیفرأیتموني صنعت بهم حین تركوا ما أمرهم االله به من طاعته وأمرهم به رسول االله وذلك قوله

تعالى: (ولقد صدق علیهم إبلیس ظنه فاتبعوه إلا فریقا من المؤمنین).

Amir-ul-Momineenasws said: ‘After that, the Messenger ofAllahsaww informed measws, and said: ‘The people will pay allegianceto Abu Bakr in the shade of the Clan of Sa’ada after havingquarrelled against ourasws rights and ourasws proofs. Then they willcome to Al-Masjid. The first one who will pledge allegiance to him onmysawwPulpit will be Ibleesla in the form of an old man who will saysuch and such.

Then hela would go out and gather hisla companions, andhisla devils, and hisla satans around himla, who will prostrate beforehimla saying, ‘O our chief, O our great one, youla are the one who gotAdamas taken out from the Paradise’. Hela will say, ‘Whichcommunity did not go astray after its Prophetas? Never, you thoughtthat Ilawould not have authority over them and no way to them? So,how do you see mela now of what Ila have made them leave whatAllahazwj had Ordered them to do of the obedience, and theMessenger of Allahsaww had ordered them to do’. And that is theStatement of the Highazwj: “[34:20] And Satan indeed found hiscalculation true concerning them, for they follow him, all exceptfor a group of true believers”.

قال سلمان: فلما أن كان اللیل حمل علي علیه السلام فاطمة علیها السلام على حمار وأخذبیدي ابنیه الحسن والحسین علیهما السلام، فلم یدع أحدا من أهل بدر من المهاجرین ولا منالأنصار إلا أتاه في منزله فذكرهم حقه ودعاهم إلى نصرته، فما استجاب له منهم إلا أربعةوأربعون رجلا. فأمرهم أن یصبحوا بكرة محلقین رؤوسهم معهم سلاحهم لیبایعوا على الموت.فأصبحوا فلم یواف منهم أحد إلا أربعة. فقلت لسلمان: من الأربعة؟ فقال: أنا وأبو ذر والمقدادوالزبیر بن العوام. ثم أتاهم علي علیه السلام من اللیلة المقبلة فناشدهم، فقالوا: (نصبحك بكرة) فما

منهم أحد أتاه غیرنا. ثم أتاهم اللیلة الثالثة فما أتاه غیرنا.

2 – Amir-ul-Momineenasws establishedhisasws proof on the generations to

comeSalmanar said, ‘When it was night time, Aliasws made Fatimaasws rideon a mule, and took both of hisaswssonsasws, Al-Hassanasws and Al-Husaynasws by theirasws hands. Heasws did not call upon anyone fromthe people of Badr from the ‘al-Mahajir’ as well as the ‘Al-Ansar’ butheasws came up to them in their houses. Heasws reminded them ofhisasws rights, and called upon them to hisasws help. No oneanswered hisasws call for this except for forty-four of them.Heasws ordered them to shave off their heads and come over thenext morning with their weapons to pay allegiance to death. No onewas faithful to it except for four. I said to Salmanar, ‘Who were thefour?’ Hear said, ‘Iar, and Abu Dharrar, and Miqdadar and Zubayr BinAl-Awaam’. Then Aliasws went back to them on the second night andurged them for help. They said, ‘Tomorrow morning’. Not one of themcame to himasws except for us. Then heasws went to them on the thirdnight. No one came to himasws apart from us’.

علي علیه السلام یجمع القرآن ویعرضه على الناس فلما رآى غدرهم وقلة وفائهم له لزم بیتهوأقبل على القرآن یؤلفه ویجمعه، فلم یخرج من بیته حتى جمعه وكان في الصحف والشظاظوالأسیار والرقاع. فلما جمعه كله وكتبه بیده على تنزیله وتأویله والناسخ منه والمنسوخ، بعث إلیه

أبو بكر أن اخرج فبایع. فبعث إلیه علي علیه السلام: (إني لمشغول وقد آلیت نفسي یمینا أن لاأرتدي رداء إلا للصلاة حتى أؤلف القرآن وأجمعه).

Aliasws started collecting the Quran to present it to the people.When heasws saw their treachery and their lack of loyalty to himasws,heasws turned towards the Quran to collect it. Heasws did not comeout from hisasws house until heasws had collected it, and it used to bewritten on the paper, and on the wood, and the skin, and other bits.When heasws had collected the whole of it, and (was in the processof) writing it by hisasws own hand in accordance with its Revelation,and its explanation, and the Abrogating and the Abrogated, Abu Bakrsent for himasws to come out and pay allegiance to him. Aliasws sent amessage to him: ‘Iasws am busy and have taken it uponmyselfasws that Iasws shall not put on a robe except for Prayer untilIasws have compiled the Quran and collected it’.

فسكتوا عنه أیاما فجمعه في ثوب واحد وختمه، ثم خرج إلى الناس وهم مجتمعون مع أبي بكرفي مسجد رسول االله. فنادى علي علیه السلام بأعلى صوته: (یا أیها الناس، إني لم أزل منذ قبضرسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله مشغولا بغسله ثم بالقرآن حتى جمعته كله في هذا الثوب الواحد. فلمینزل االله تعالى على رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله آیة إلا وقد جمعتها، ولیست منه آیة إلا وقدجمعتها ولیست منه آیة إلا وقد أقرأنیها رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله وعلمني تأویلها). ثم قال لهمعلي علیه السلام: لئلا تقولوا غدا: (إنا كنا عن هذا غافلین). ثم قال لهم علي علیه السلام: لئلاتقولوا یوم القیامة إني لم أدعكم إلى نصرتي ولم أذكركم حقي، ولم أدعكم إلى كتاب االله من فاتحتهإلى خاتمته. فقال عمر: ما أغنانا ما معنا من القرآن عما تدعونا إلیه ثم دخل علي علیه السلام بیته.

So they kept quiet from himasws for a few days. Heasws collectedin one piece of cloth and sealed it, then came out to the people, andthey had gathered around Abu Bakr in the Masjid of the Messengerof Allahsaww. Aliasws called out in a loud voice: ‘O you people!Iasws Since the passing away of the Messenger of Allahsaww, I havebeen preoccupied with hissaww washing, then with the Quran, and didnot cease until Iaswshave collected all of it in this one cloth. There isno Verse that Allahazwj the High has Sent down on the Messenger ofAllahazwj but Iasws have collected it, and there is no Verse from itexcept that Iasws have collected it, and there is no Verse from it

except that the Messenger of Allahsaww had read it out to measwsandmade known its explanation to measws’. Then Aliasws said to them:‘Lest you say tomorrow that “[7:172] Surely we were heedless ofthis”. Then Aliasws said to them: ‘Lest you say on the Day ofJudgement that Iasws did not call you to help measws and did notremind you of myasws right, and did not call you to the Book ofAllahazwj from its opening up to its end’. Umar said, ‘What we havefrom the Quran is sufficient for us, but rather, youasws are calling usto yourselfasws’. Then Aliasws entered hisasws house’.

إقامة الحجة على أبي بكر في ما ادعاه من ألقابوقال عمر لأبي بكر: أرسل إلى علي فلیبایع، فإنا لسنا في شیئ حتى یبایع، ولو قد بایع أمناه.فأرسل إلیه أبو بكر: (أجب خلیفة رسول االله) فأتاه الرسول فقال له ذلك. فقال له علي علیه السلام:(سبحان االله ما أسرع ما كذبتم على رسول االله، إنه لیعلم ویعلم الذین حوله أن االله ورسوله لم

یستخلفا غیري). وذهب الرسول فأخبره بما قال له.

And Umar said to Abu Bakr, ‘Send a message to Aliasws to payallegiance, for there is nothing in this (Caliphate) until heasws paysallegiance, and if heasws were to do so, it will be secure’. Abu Bakrsent a message to himasws, ‘Answer to the Caliph of the Messengerof Allahsaww’. The messenger came and said that to himasws.Aliasws replied to him: ‘Glory be to Allahazwj, with what haste youhave forged a lie to the Messenger of Allahsaww, he knows and thosethat surround him know that the Allahazwj andHisazwjMessengersaww did not appoint a Caliph other thanmyselfasws’. The messenger went and informed him(Abu Bakr) ofwhat heasws had said to him.

قال: اذهب فقل له: (أجب أمیر المؤمنین أبا بكر) فأتاه فأخبره بما قال. فقال له علي علیهالسلام: سبحان االله ما واالله طال العهد فینسى. فواالله إنه لیعلم أن هذا الاسم لا یصلح إلا لي، ولقدأمره رسول االله وهو سابع سبعة فسلموا علي بإمرة المؤمنین. فاستفهم هو وصاحبه عمر من بینالسبعة فقالا: أحق من االله ورسوله؟ فقال لهما رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله: نعم، حقا حقا من االلهورسوله إنه أمیر المؤمنین وسید المسلمین وصاحب لواء الغر المحجلین، یقعده االله عز وجل یوم

القیامة على الصراط، فیدخل أولیائه الجنة وأعداءه النار. فانطلق الرسول فأخبره بما قال. قال:فسكتوا عنه یومهم ذلك.

Abu Bakr said, ‘Say to himasws, ‘Answer to Amir-ul-MomineenAbu Bakr’. He came to himasws, and informed him of what Abu Bakrhad said. Aliasws said to him: ‘Glory be to Allahazwj, by Allahazwj it hasnot been long and he has forgotten it. By Allahazwj, he knows thatthis is a name, which is not correct except for myselfasws, and theMessenger of Allahsaww has ordered it, and he himself was theseventh one who had saluted measws as Amir-ul-Momineen. He (AbuBakr) and his companion Umar were among those seven (people)who inquired by saying, ‘Is this truth from Allahazwj andHisazwj Prophetsaww?’ The Messenger of Allahsaww said to them: ‘Yes,truth. Truth from Allahazwj and from Hisazwj Messengersaww thatheasws is Amir-ul-Momineen and the Chief of the Muslims, and thestandard bearer, and the resplendent face.

Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic will Make himasws to be seated onthe Day of Judgement, on the Path. Heasws will make to enterhisasws friends into the Paradise, and hisasws enemies into the Fire’.The messenger returned and informed him of what heasws had said.He kept quiet from him on that day.

إتمام الحجة على الأنصار ومطالبتهم بالوفاء ببیعتهمفلما كان اللیل حمل علي علیه السلام فاطمة علیها السلام على حمار وأخذ بیدي ابنیه الحسنوالحسین علیهما السلام، فلم یدع أحدا من أصحاب رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله إلا أتاه فيمنزله، فناشدهم االله حقه ودعاهم إلى نصرته. فما استجاب منهم رجل غیرنا الأربعة، فإنا حلقنا

رؤوسنا وبذلنا له نصرتنا، وكان الزبیر أشدنا بصیرة في نصرته.

When it was night time, Aliasws made Fatimaasws ride on a mule, andtook the hand of hisasws sonsasws Al-Hassanasws and Al-Husaynasws.There was not a single one from the companions of the Messengerof Allahsaww, but heasws visited him in his house. Heasws urged themof Allahazwj and of hisasws rights, and called upon them forhisasws help. No man answered from them except for us four. So weshaved our heads, and expressed our support to himasws, and Al-Zubayr was, among us showing the most fervour and support’.

) 3 ( شهادة فاطمة الزهراء علیها السلام هجوم قبائل قریش على بیت الوحيوإحراقه

فلما رآى علي علیه السلام خذلان الناس إیاه وتركهم نصرته واجتماع كلمتهم مع أبي بكروطاعتهم له وتعظیمهم إیاه لزم بیته. فقال عمر لأبي بكر: ما یمنعك أن تبعث إلیه فیبایع، فإنه لمیبق أحد إلا وقد بایع غیره وغیر هؤلاء الأربعة. وكان أبو بكر أرق الرجلین وأرفقهما وأدهاهماوأبعدهما غورا، والآخر أفظهما وأغلظهما وأجفاهما. فقال أبو بكر: من نرسل إلیه؟ فقال عمر:

نرسل إلیه قنفذا، وهو رجل فظ غلیظ جاف من الطلقاء أحد بني عدي بن كعب.

3 – The testimony of Fatima Al-Zahraasws at the attack of the tribe ofQureish on the House of Revelation

and burning of it -When Aliasws saw the Abandonment of the people, their avoidance ofsupporting himasws, and their gathering around Abu Bakr and theirobedience to him, and revering him, heasws resorted to staying athisasws house.

Umar said to Abu Bakr, ‘What is preventing you to send someoneto him for the allegiance, for there is no one remaining except that hehas paid allegiance apart from himasws and those four’. And AbuBakr was softer of the two men, and more thoughtful of the two, and

the more benign of the two, and had more foresight of the two, andthe other one was more short-tempered of the two, and hard-heartedof the two, and more oppressive of the two. Abu Bakr said, ‘Whoshall we sent to himasws?’ Umar said, ‘We should send tohimaswsQunfuz, and he was a man who was rude, muscular, short-tempered from the freed ones of the Clan of Uday Bin Ka’ab.[15]

فأرسله إلیه وأرسل معه أعوانا وانطلق فاستأذن على علي علیه السلام، فأبى أن یأذن لهم.فرجع أصحاب قنفذ إلى أبي بكر وعمر - وهما جالسان في المسجد والناس حولهما - فقالوا: لمیؤذن لنا. فقال عمر: اذهبوا، فإن أذن لكم وإلا فادخلوا علیه بغیر إذن فانطلقوا فاستأذنوا، فقالتفاطمة علیها السلام: (أحرج علیكم أن تدخلوا على بیتي بغیر إذن). فرجعوا وثبت قنفذ الملعون.فقالوا: إن فاطمة قالت كذا وكذا فتحرجنا أن ندخل بیتها بغیر إذن. فغضب عمر وقال: ما لنا

وللنساء

He sent him, and sent some ‘Al-Ansar’ along with him, and theydashed to himasws. They sought permission from Aliasws to enter thehouse. Heasws did not permit them. The companions of Qunfuzreturned to Abu Bakr and Umar – and they were both seated in theMasjid, and the people were around them. They said, ‘Heasws is notpermitting us’. Umar said, ‘Go, if heasws gives you permission, and ifnot, enter without permission. They rushed across. They soughtpermission. Fatimaasws said, ‘Get out of here all of you that youcannot entered into myasws house without myasws permission!’ Theyreturned, and Qunfuz the accursed, remained steadfast. They said(to Abu Bakr and Umar), ‘Fatimaasws said such and such. She told usto get out of herasws house, for we entered without permission’. Umargot angry and said, ‘What have we to do with the women?’

ثم أمر أناسا حوله أن یحملوا الحطب فحملوا الحطب وحمل معهم عمر، فجعلوه حول منزلعلي وفاطمة وابناهما علیهم السلام. ثم نادى عمر حتى أسمع علیا وفاطمة علیهما السلام: (وااللهلتخرجن یا علي ولتبایعن خلیفة رسول االله وإلا أضرمت علیك بیتك النار) فقالت فاطمة علیهاالسلام: یا عمر، ما لنا ولك؟ فقال: افتحي الباب وإلا أحرقنا علیكم بیتكم. فقالت: (یا عمر، أما تتقياالله تدخل على بیتي)؟ فأبى أن ینصرف. ودعا عمر بالنار فأضرمها في الباب ثم دفعه فدخلفاستقبلته فاطمة علیها السلام وصاحت: (یا أبتاه یا رسول االله) فرفع عمر السیف وهو في غمدهفوجأ به جنبها فصرخت: (یا أبتاه) فرفع السوط فضرب به ذراعها فنادت: (یا رسول االله، لبئس ما

خلفك أبو بكر وعمر).

Then he ordered the people around him to carry firewood. Theyall carried firewood, and Umar carried it with them. They wentaround the home of Aliasws and Fatimaasws, and theirasws twosonsasws. Then Umar called out until Aliasws and Fatimaasws heard,‘By Allahazwj, Come out to us, O Aliasws, and pay allegiance to theCaliph of the Messenger of Allahsaww, or else we will burn downyourasws house upon youasws’. Fatimaasws said: ‘O Umar, what haveyou to do with usasws?’ He said, ‘Open the door or else we will burndown yourasws house upon youasws’.

Sheasws said: ‘O Umar, do you not fear Allahazwj that you want toenter into myasws house?’ He refused to leave. And Umar called forthe fire. He set fire to the door, then pushed it and entered.Fatimaasws confronted him and shouted: ‘O myasws fathersaww, OMessenger of Allahsaww! Umar raised his sword, and it was in itssheath, and hit herasws with it on herasws side. Sheasws screamed: ‘Omyasws father!’ He raised the whip. He struck herasws with it onherasws arm. Sheasws called out: ‘O Messenger of Allahsaww! Evil it iswhat Abu Bakr and Umar have done after yousaww!’

دفاع علي علیه السلام عن سلیلة النبوةفوثب علي علیه السلام فأخذ بتلابیبه ثم نتره فصرعه ووجأ أنفه ورقبته وهم بقتله، فذكر قولرسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله وما أوصاه به، فقال: (والذي كرم محمدا بالنبوة - یا بن صهاك -

لولا كتاب من االله سبق وعهد عهده إلي رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله لعلمت إنك لا تدخل بیتي).

Defence of Aliasws for the descendantof the Prophet-hood

Aliasws leapt up and grabbed him by the collar and pushed him away.He fell and injured his neck and nose. Heasws resolved to kill him.

Heasws remembered the statement of the Messenger ofAllahsaww and what hesawwhad bequeathed to himasws. heasws said:‘By the One Whoazwj has Honoured Mohammedsaww with Prophet-hood – O son of Sahhaak – had the Book of Allahazwj not been infront of measws, and the pledge, pledged to measws by the Messengerof Allahsaww, you would have known that you could not entermyasws house’.

أبو بكر یصدر أمره بإحراق البیت مرة أخرىفأرسل عمر یستغیث، فأقبل الناس حتى دخلوا الدار وثار علي علیه السلام إلى سیفه. فرجعقنفذ إلى أبي بكر وهو یتخوف أن یخرج علي علیه السلام إلیه بسیفه، لما قد عرف من بأسهوشدته. فقال أبو بكر لقنفذ: (إرجع، فإن خرج وإلا فاقتحم علیه بیته، فإن امتنع فاضرم علیهم بیتهمالنار). فانطلق قنفذ الملعون فاقتحم هو وأصحابه بغیر إذن، وثار علي علیه السلام إلى سیفه فسبقوهإلیه وكاثروه وهم كثیرون، فتناول بعضهم سیوفهم فكاثروه وضبطوه فألقوا في عنقه حبلا وحالتبینهم وبینه فاطمة علیها السلام عند باب البیت، فضربها قنفذ الملعون بالسوط فماتت حین ماتت

وإن في عضدها كمثل الدملج من ضربته، لعنه االله ولعن من بعث به.

Abu Bakr issues an order to set fire tothe house once again

Umar yelled out for help. The people came over until they enteredthe house, and Aliasws reached for hisaswssword. Qunfuz returned toAbu Bakr and he feared that Aliasws would come out to him withhisasws sword, having known of hisasws bravery and determination.Abu Bakr said to Qunfuz, ‘Return, and see if heasws comes out, orelse break down hisasws house, and if heasws still refuses, burn downhisasws house upon himasws’. Qunfuz the accursed returned. He andhis companions entered without permission, and Aliasws reached forhisasws sword. They got to himasws first, and they captured himasws,and they were many of them. Some of them took their swords out,grabbed himasws and seized himasws. They put a rope aroundhisasws neck. Fatimaasws came in between himasws and them near thedoor of the house. Qunfuz the accursed struck herasws with the whip,she fell unconscious like sheasws had died, and on herasws shoulderwas a mark from the whip when sheaswspassed away. MayAllahazwj Curse him and the one who sent him’.

4 – “Allegiance” of Amir-ul-Momineenasws by compulsion and

abhorrenceThen they dragged Aliasws in a cruel manner until they endedhimasws up to Abu Bakr, and Umar was standing ready with hissword, and Khalid Bin Waleed, and Abu Ubeyda Bin Al-Jarrah, andSaalim Mawla Abu Huzeyfa, and Ma’az Bin Jabal, and Al-MugheiraBin Shayba, and Aseyd Bin Hazeyr, and Bashir Bin Saeed, and restof the people were seated around Abu Bakr, ready with theirweapons.

الدخول إلى بیت فاطمة علیها السلام بغیر إذنقال: قلت لسلمان: أدخلوا على فاطمة علیها السلام بغیر إذن؟ قال: إي واالله، وما علیها منخمار فنادت: (وا أبتاه، وارسول االله یا أبتاه فلبئس ما خلفك أبو بكر وعمر عیناك لم تتفقأ فيقبرك) - تنادي بأعلى صوتها -. فلقد رأیت أبا بكر ومن حوله یبكون وینتحبون ما فیهم إلا باك

غیر عمر وخالد بن الولید والمغیرة بن شعبة وعمر یقول: إنا لسنا من النساء ورأیهن في شیئ.

The entry into the House ofFatimaasws without permission

I said to Salmanar, ‘They entered into the House ofFatimaasws without permission?’ Hear said, ‘Yes, by Allahazwj, andsheasws did not have a veil on herasws. Sheasws called out: ‘Ofathersaww! O Messenger of Allahsaww! O fathersaww! Evil it is whatAbu Bakr and Umar are after yousaww, before yoursaww eyes did noteven close in yoursaww grave’ - Sheasws had called out in a loudvoice. I saw Abu Bakr and those around him crying, and there was

none among them except that he wept apart from Umar, and KhalidBin Waleed, and Al-Mugheira Bin Shayba; and Umar was saying,‘We have nothing to do with the women and their opinions’.

أمیر المؤمنین علیه السلام یقیم الحجة على قریشقال: فانتهوا بعلي علیه السلام إلى أبي بكر وهو یقول: أما واالله لو وقع سیفي في یدي لعلمتمأنكم لن تصلوا إلى هذا أبدا. أما واالله ما ألوم نفسي في جهادكم، ولو كنت استمكنت من الأربعینرجلا لفرقت جماعتكم، ولكن لعن االله أقواما بایعوني ثم خذلوني. ولما أن بصر به أبو بكر صاح:(خلوا سبیله) فقال علي علیه السلام: یا أبا بكر، ما أسرع ما توثبتم على رسول االله بأي حق وبأي

منزلة دعوت الناس إلى بیعتك؟ ألم تبایعني بالأمس بأمر االله وأمر رسول االله؟

Amir-ul-Momineenasws establisheshisasws argument on the Qureysh

They ended up with Aliasws to Abu Bakr, and heasws was saying, ‘But,by Allahazwj, if myasws sword was present in myasws hands, you wouldhave known that you would have never arrived at this stage, ever.But, by Allahazwj, Iasws do not blame myselfasws in fighting againstyou. And if there had been forty men (in my support) Iaswswould havebeen able to disperse your group, but may Allahazwj Curse thepeople who paid allegiance to measwsand then abandoned measws’.When Abu Bakr saw himasws, he shouted, ‘Release himasws!’Aliasws said: ‘O Abu Bakr, with what ease you have gone against theMessenger of Allahsaww. With what right, and with which status haveyou called the people to your allegiance?’ Did you not pay allegianceto measws yesterday by the order of the Messenger of Allahazwj?’

وقد كان قنفذ لعنه االله ضرب فاطمة علیها السلام بالسوط - حین حالت بینه وبین زوجهاوأرسل إلیه عمر: (إن حالت بینك وبینه فاطمة فاضربها) - فألجأها قنفذ لعنه االله إلى عضادة باببیتها ودفعها فكسر ضلعها من جنبها فألقت جنینا من بطنها. فلم تزل صاحبة فراش حتى ماتت

صلى االله علیها من ذلك شهیدة.

And Qunfuz did hit Fatimaasws with the whip when sheasws camebetween him and herasws husbandasws, and Umar had sent him witha message, ‘If Fatimaasws comes between you and himasws, hitherasws’. Qunfuz, may Allahazwj Curse him, forced herasws to takerefuge behind the door of herasws house, and he pushed it. The ribson herasws side broke, and as a result of which (Mohsinasws) wasmartyred. Sheasws did not cease being bed-ridden as a result, untilsheasws passed away from that as a martyr’.

قال: ولما انتهى بعلي علیه السلام إلى أبي بكر انتهره عمر وقال له: بایع ودع عنك هذهالأباطیل فقال علیه السلام له: فإن لم أفعل فما أنتم صانعون ؟ قالوا: نقتلك ذلا وصغارا فقال علیهالسلام: إذا تقتلون عبد االله وأخا رسوله. فقال أبو بكر: أما عبد االله فنعم، وأما أخو رسول االله فمانقر بهذا قال: أتجحدون أن رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله آخى بیني وبینه ؟ قال: نعم. فأعاد ذلكعلیهم ثلاث مرات. ثم أقبل علیهم علي علیه السلام فقال: یا معشر المسلمین والمهاجرینوالأنصار، أنشدكم االله، أسمعتم رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله یقول یوم غدیر خم كذا وكذا وفيغزوة تبوك كذا وكذا ؟ فلم یدع علیه السلام شیئا قاله فیه رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله علانیة

للعامة إلا ذكرهم إیاه. قالوا: اللهم نعم.

When they ended up with Aliasws to Abu Bakr, Umar rebukedhimasws, ‘Pay allegiance, and stay away from these vanities.Aliasws said: ‘And if Iasws do not do this, what will you do?’ He said,‘We will kill youasws with humiliation and degradation’. Heasws said:‘Will you kill the servant of Allahazwj and the brother ofHisazwjMessengersaww?’ Abu Bakr said, ‘As for being a servant ofAllahazwj, it is correct, but as for being a brother of the Messenger ofAllahsaww, we do not accept it’.

Heasws said: ‘Are you denying that the Messenger ofAllahsaww established brotherhood between myselfaswsandhimselfsaww?’ He said, ‘Yes’. Heasws repeated that thrice to him. ThenAliasws addressed them by saying: ‘O group of Muslims, and the ‘al-Mahajir’ and the ‘Al-Ansar’. Iasws would like you all to swear toAllahazwj, did you all not hear the Messenger of Allahsaww say on theDay of Ghadeer Khumm such and such, and during the expedition of

Tabuk, such and such?’ Heasws did not leave out anything that theMessenger of Allahsaww had said in the open, except thatheasws reminded them of it. They said, ‘Our Allahazwj, yes’.

أبو بكر یختلق حدیثا لغصب الخلافةفلما تخوف أبو بكر أن ینصره الناس وأن یمنعوه بادرهم فقال له: كل ما قلت حق قد سمعناهبآذاننا وعرفناه ووعته قلوبنا، ولكن قد سمعت رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله یقول بعد هذا: (إناأهل بیت اصطفانا االله وأكرمنا واختار لنا الاخرة على الدنیا، وإن االله لم یكن لیجمع لنا أهل البیتالنبوة والخلافة). فقال علي علیه السلام: هل أحد من أصحاب رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله شهدهذا معك ؟ فقال عمر: صدق خلیفة رسول االله، قد سمعته منه كما قال. وقال أبو عبیدة وسالم مولى

أبي حذیفة ومعاذ بن جبل: صدق، قد سمعنا ذلك من رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله.

Abu Bakr fabricates a Hadith to usurpthe Caliphate

When Abu Bakr feared that the people might help himasws, in orderto stop them he surprised them by saying to himasws, ‘All that whichyouasws have said is true. We have heard it with our ears, andunderstood it, and realised it by our hearts, but, I heard theMessenger of Allahsaww say after this that: ‘The Peopleasws of theHousehold, Allahazwj has Chosen usasws and Honoured usasws, andhas Chosen for us the Hereafter over the world, and thatAllahazwj does not want to gather for usasws, the Peopleasws of theHousehold, the Prophet-hood and the Caliphate together’.

Aliasws said: ‘Is there anyone from the companions of theMessenger of Allahsaww of this which is with you?’ Umar said, ‘TheCaliph of the Messenger of Allahsaww has spoken the truth, I heardfrom himsaww as he has said’. And Abu Ubeyda, and Saalim MawlaAbu Huzayfa, and Ma’az Bin Jabal said, ‘It is true, we have heardthat from the Messenger of Allahsaww’.

أمیر المؤمنین علیه السلام یفضح الصحیفة الملعونةفقال لهم علي علیه السلام: لقد وفیتم بصحیفتكم الملعونة التي تعاقدتم علیها في الكعبة: " إنقتل االله محمدا أو مات لتزون هذا الامر عنا أهل البیت ". فقال أبو بكر: فما علمك بذلك ؟ ماأطلعناك علیها فقال علیه السلام: أنت یا زبیر وأنت یا سلمان وأنت یا أبا ذر وأنت یا مقداد، أسألكمباالله وبالأسلام، أما سمعتم رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله یقول ذلك وأنتم تسمعون: (إن فلانا وفلانا- حتى عد هؤلاء الخمسة - قد كتبوا بینهم كتابا وتعاهدوا فیه وتعاقدوا أیمانا على ما صنعوا إنقتلت أو مت) ؟ فقالوا: اللهم نعم، قد سمعنا رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله یقول ذلك لك: (إنهم قدتعاهدوا وتعاقدوا على ما صنعوا، وكتبوا بینهم كتابا إن قتلت أو مت أن یتظاهروا علیك وأن یزووا

عنك هذا یا علي).

Amir-ul-Momineenasws exposes theaccursed document

Aliasws said to them: ‘You have been faithful to the accurseddocument which you contracted to him in the Kaabah that stated, “IfAllahazwj Kills Mohammedsaww or hesaww passes away, we will keepaway this matter (Caliphate) from us the Peopleasws of theHousehold”. Abu Bakr said, ‘What is yourasws knowledge of that? Wehave not informed youasws of this’. Heasws said: ‘You, O Zubeyr, andyou, O Salmanar, and you, O Abu Dharrar, and you, O Miqdadar,Iasws ask you for the sake Allahazwj and for the sake of the Islam, butdid you not hear the Messenger of Allahsaww say that, and you werelistening: ‘So and so, and so and so – until hesaww counted these five– have written between them a writing, and they have taken an oathin it, if Isaww am killed or were to pass away?’ They said, ‘OurAllahazwj, yes. We have indeed heard the Messenger ofAllahsaww say that to youasws that they have made an agreementbetween them and have vowed to keep to it, and wrote out anagreement among them that if hesaww were to be killed or passedaway, they will make appear against you these happenings, OAliasws’.

قلت: بأبي أنت وأمي یا رسول االله، فما تأمرني إذا كان ذلك أن أفعل ؟ فقال لك: إن وجدتعلیهم أعوانا فجاهدهم ونابذهم، وإن أنت لم تجد أعوانا فبایع واحقن دمك. فقال علي علیه السلام:أما واالله، لو أن اولئك الأربعین رجلا الذین بایعوني وفوا لي لجاهدتكم في االله، ولكن أما واالله لا

ینالها أحد من عقبكما إلى یوم القیامة.

I said, ‘May myasws fatheras and myasws mothersa be sacrificed foryousaww, O Messenger of Allahsaww, so what do yousaww ordermeasws to do if that is what they do?’ They said, ‘Hesaww said toyouasws: ‘If youasws find supporters, fight against them, and rejectthem, and if youasws do not find any supporters, then pay allegianceand save yourasws blood’. Aliasws said: ‘But, by Allahazwj, if those fortymen who had paid allegiance to measwshad been faithful, Iasws wouldhave fought against you in the Way of Allahazwj, but, by Allahazwj,neither one of both your offspring will attain it (Caliphate) until theDay of Judgement.

الرد على الحدیث المختلق بكتاب االله تعالىوفیما یكذب قولكم على رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله قوله تعالى: (أم یحسدون الناس على ماآتاهم االله من فضله فقد آتینا آل إبراهیم الكتاب والحكمة وآتیناهم ملكا عظیما) ، فالكتاب النبوة،

والحكمة السنة، والملك الخلافة، ونحن آل إبراهیم.

But indeedWe have given to Ibrahim's children the Book and the wisdom,and We have given them a grand kingdom”, for the Book is the

دفاع المقداد وسلمان وأبي ذر عن علي علیه السلامفقام المقداد فقال: یا علي، بما تأمرني ؟ واالله إن أمرتني لأضربن بسیفي وإن أمرتني كففت.

فقال علي علیه السلام: كف یا مقداد، واذكر عهد رسول االله وما أوصاك به.

Defence of Al-Miqdadar, and Salmanar,and Abu Dharrarregarding Aliasws

Al-Miqdadar stood up and said, ‘O Aliasws, what is your order formear? By Allahazwj, if youasws were to order mear so, Iar would strikeby my sword, and if youasws were to order me so, Iar would hold backmyar hand’. Aliaswssaid: ‘Hold back, O Miqdad, and remember theoath of the Messenger of Allahsaww, and what hesaww hasbequeathed to youar’.

فقمت وقلت: والذي نفسي بیده، لو أني أعلم أني أدفع ضیما وأعز الله دینا لوضعت سیفي علىعنقي ثم ضربت به قدما قدما. أتثبون على أخي رسول االله ووصیه وخلیفته في أمته وأبي ولده ؟

فابشروا بالبلاء واقنطوا من الرخاء.

Iar (Salmanar) stood up and said, ‘By the One in Whoseazwj Handis myar soul, if Iar knew that Iasws could remove injustice and honourthe Religion of Allahazwj, Iasws would have placed myar sword onmyar neck, then would have struck with it step by step. You arepouncing on the brotherasws of the Messenger of Allahsaww, andhissaww successorasws, and hissaww Caliph in hisazwj community, andthe father of hisasws sonsasws? I give you the news of the afflictionsthat will cut you off from prosperity’.

وقام أبو ذر فقال: أیتها الامة المتحیرة بعد نبیها المخذولة بعصیانها، إن االله یقول: (إن االلهاصطفى آدم ونوحا وآل إبراهیم وآل عمران على العالمین ذریة بعضها من بعض واالله سمیععلیم). وآل محمد الأخلاف من نوح وآل إبراهیم من إبراهیم والصفوة والسلالة من إسماعیلوعترة النبي محمد، أهل بیت النبوة وموضع الرسالة ومختلف الملائكة، وهم كالسماء المرفوعةوالجبال المنصوبة والكعبة المستورة والعین الصافیة والنجوم الهادیة والشجرة المباركة، أضاءنورها وبورك زیتها. محمد خاتم الأنبیاء وسید ولد آدم، وعلي وصي الأوصیاء وإمام المتقین وقائدالغر المحجلین، وهو الصدیق الأكبر والفاروق الأعظم ووصي محمد ووارث علمه وأولى الناسبالمؤمنین من أنفسهم كما قال االله: (النبي أولى بالمؤمنین من أنفسهم وأزواجه امهاتهم واولواالأرحام بعضهم أولى ببعض في كتاب االله). فقدموا من قدم االله وأخروا من أخر االله واجعلوا

الولایة والوراثة لمن جعل االله.

And Abu Dharrar stood up and said, ‘O you community you surelyhave gone astray after the Prophetsaww, you have Abandoned (thereligion) adapted the way of sins. Surely Allahazwj has Said “[4:54]Or do they envy the people for what Allah has given them of Hisgrace? But indeed We have given to Ibrahim's children theBook and the wisdom, and We have given them a grandkingdom”. And the Progenyasws of Mohammedsaww are thesuccessors from Nuhsa, and the Children of Ibrahimsa fromIbrahimas, and the elite, and the dynasty from Ismailsa, and theFamily of the Prophet Mohammedsaww, Peopleasws of the Householdof the Prophet-hood, and the Place of the Message and interchangeof the Angels, and theyasws are like the raised sky, and the firmmountain, and the veiled Kaabah, and the pure spring, and theguiding stars, and the Blessed Tree, illuminating its light, and its oil isblessed.

Mohammedsaww is the last of the Prophetsas and the chief of thechildren of Adamsa, and Aliasws is the successorasws of thesuccessorsas, and the Imamasws of the pious, and the guide of theresplendent, and heasws is the Great True one (Al-Siddique Al-Akbar), and the Great Differentiator (Al-Faroouq Al-Aazam), and thesuccessorasws of Mohammedsaww, and the inheritor ofhissaww knowledge, and the foremost of the believing people thanthemselves, as Allahazwj has Said “[33:6] The Prophet has a

greater claim on the faithful than they have on themselves, andhis wives are (as) their mothers; and the possessors ofrelationship have the better claim in the ordinance of Allah”. So,the one who gives them preference has given preference toAllahazwj, and the one who has disfavoured them has disfavouredAllahazwj, and make the Wilayah and the inheritance to be to theoneasws whom Allahazwj has Made it to be in’.

عمر یهدد علیا بالقتلفقام عمر فقال لأبي بكر - وهو جالس فوق المنبر -: ما یجلسك فوق المنبر وهذا جالسمحارب لا یقوم فیبایعك ؟ أو تأمر به فنضرب عنقه - والحسن والحسین قائمان - فلما سمعا مقالة

عمر بكیا، فضمهما علیه السلام إلى صدره فقال: لا تبكیا، فو االله ما یقدران على قتل أبیكما.

Umar threatens to kill Aliasws

Umar stood up. He said to Abu Bakr – and he was seated on top ofthe Pulpit – ‘What are you sitting on the Pulpit for, and this (man) isseated to battle against you and is not standing up to pay allegianceto you? Or give an order for his neck to be cut off’ – and Al-Hassanasws and Al-Husaynasws were standing there – whentheyaswsheard the words of Umar, theyasws started crying.Heasws embraced themasws to hisasws chest and said: ‘Do not cry, forby Allahazwj, they do not have the ability to kill yourasws fatherasws’.

دفاع ام أیمن وبریدة عن علي علیه السلاموأقبلت ام أیمن حاضنة رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله فقالت: (یا أبا بكر، ما أسرع ما أبدیتمحسدكم ونفاقكم) فأمر بها عمر فأخرجت من المسجد وقال: ما لنا وللنساء. وقام بریدة الأسلميوقال: أتثب - یا عمر - على أخي رسول االله وأبي ولده وأنت الذي نعرفك في قریش بما نعرفك ؟ألستما قال لكما رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله: (انطلقا إلى علي وسلما علیه بإمرة المؤمنین) ؟فقلتما: أعن أمر االله وأمر رسوله ؟ قال: نعم. فقال أبو بكر: قد كان ذلك ولكن رسول االله قال بعدذلك: (لا یجتمع لأهل بیتي النبوة والخلافة). فقال: واالله ما قال هذا رسول االله، واالله لا سكنت في

And Umm Aymansa, the nurse maid of the Messenger ofAllahsaww came forward. Shesa said, ‘O Abu Bakr, with what easeyou have begun your envy and your hypocrisy’. Umar ordered forhersa to be thrown out of the Masjid and said, ‘What have we to dowith women’. Bureyda Al-Aslamy stood up and said, ‘O Umar, youare pouncing upon Aliasws, the brother of the Messenger ofAllahsaww, and the father of hissaww childrenasws, and you are the oneabout whom we know among the Qureysh what we know? Are youtwo to whom the Messenger of Allahsaww said: ‘Go to Aliasws andsalute himasws as Amir-ul-Momineen?’ You both said, ‘Is this theOrder of Allahazwj and Hisazwj Messengersaww?’ Hesaww said: ‘Yes’.Abu Bakr said, ‘That is how it was, but the Messenger ofAllahsaww said after that: ‘For the Peopleasws of mysaww Household,the Prophet-hood and the Caliphate will not be gathered together’.He said, ‘By Allahazwj, the Messenger of Allahsaww did not say this.By Allahazwj I will not stay in the city in which you are the Emir’. Umarordered for him to be beaten up and thrown out’.

كیفیة بیعة أمیر المؤمنین علیه السلامثم قال: قم یابن أبي طالب فبایع. فقال: فإن لم أفعل ؟ قال: إذا واالله نضرب عنقك فاحتج علیهمثلاث مرات، ثم مد یده من غیر أن یفتح كفه، فضرب علیها أبو بكر ورضي بذلك منه. فنادى علي

علیه السلام قبل أن یبایع - والحبل في عنقه -: (یابن أام إن القوم استضعفوني وكادوا یقتلونني).

Then he (Umar) said, ‘Arise, O sonasws of Abu Talibasws, payallegiance’. Heasws said: ‘If Iasws don’t do it?’ He said, ‘Then, byAllahazwj, we will cut off yourasws neck’. He said this to himasws threetimes, then another one extended hisasws hand and openedhisasws hand. Abu Bakr struck hisasws hand and he was happy withthat regarding it. Aliasws called out, before the allegiance – and therope was around hisasws neck -: “[7:150] Son of my mother! surelythe people reckoned me weak and had well-nigh slain me”.

بیعة الزبیر وسلمان وأبي ذر والمقدادوقیل للزبیر: بایع، فأبى، فوثب إلیه عمر وخالد بن الولید والمغیرة بن شعبة في أناس معهم،فانتزعوا سیفه من یده فضربوا به الأرض حتى كسروه ثم لببوه. فقال الزبیر - وعمر على صدره-: یابن صهاك، أما واالله لو أن سیفي في یدي لحدت عني). ثم بایع. قال سلمان: ثم أخذوني فوجئواعنقي حتى تركوها كالسلعة، ثم أخذوا یدي وفتلوها فبایعت مكرها. ثم بایع أبو ذر والمقداد

مكرهین، وما بایع أحد من الامة مكرها غیر علي علیه السلام وأربعتنا.

Allegiance of Al-Zubeyr, andSalmanar, and Abu Dharrar and Al-

Miqdadar

And it was said to Al-Zubeyr, ‘Pay allegiance’. He refused. Umar, andKhalid Bin Waleed, and Al-Mugheira Bin Sha’ba were among thepeople who rushed towards him. They seized his sword from hishand. They struck it on the ground until they broke it, then they heldhim in a stranglehold. Al-Zubeyr said – and Umar was on his chest –‘O son of Sahhaak, but by Allahazwj, if my sword was in my hand Iwould have buried you’. Then he (was forced to) paid allegiance.Salmanar said, ‘Then they grabbed mear and throttle myar neck until itwas like a commodity. Then they grabbed myar hand and twisted it.Iar unwillingly paid allegiance. Then Abu Dharrar and Al-Miqdad paid

allegiance unwillingly. No one from the community was forced to paidallegiance (unwillingly) apart from Aliaswsand four of us’.

ولم یكن منا أحد أشد قولا من الزبیر، فإنه لما بایع قال: یابن صهاك، أما واالله لولا هؤلاءالطغاة الذین أعانوك لما كنت تقدم علي ومعي سیفي لما أعرف من جبنك ولؤمك، ولكن وجدتطغاة تقوي بهم وتصول. فغضب عمر وقال: أتذكر صهاك ؟ فقال: ومن صهاك وما یمنعني منذكرها ؟ وقد كانت صهاك زانیة، أو تنكر ذلك ؟ أو لیس كانت أمة حبشیة لجدي عبد المطلب،فزنى بها جدك نفیل، فولدت أباك الخطاب فوهبها عبد المطلب لجدك - بعد ما زنى بها - فولدته،

وإنه لعبد لجدي ولد زنا ؟ فأصلح بینهما أبو بكر وكف كل واحد منهما عن صاحبه.

And there was no one from us who was harsher in his words thanAl-Zubeyr, for when he paid allegiance, he said, ‘O son of Sahhaak,but, by Allahazwj, were it not for these tyrants who are your ‘Al-Ansar’you would not have been able to overcome me and I would have hadmy sword with me since I am aware of your cowardice andwickedness, but you have found strength in the tyrants and are onthe attack’. Umar got angry and said, ‘You are mentioning Sahhaak?’He said, ‘And who Sahhaak, and what prevents me from mentioningher? And Sahhaak was an adulteress, or are you denying that? Orwas she not from the people of Ethiopia given to my grandfatherAbdul Muttalibas? Your grandfather Nufail committed adultery withher and your father Al-Khattaab was born as a result. AbdulMuttalibas gifted her to your grandfather – after him (Nufail) havingcommitted adultery with her – and he was born, and he is thereforethe slave of my grandfather having been born from adultery? AbuBakr made peace between the two, and made each of them withholdhis hand from his companion.

) 5 ( أصحاب أمیر المؤمنین علیه السلام یقیمون الحجة على الغاصبینكلمة سلمان بعد البیعة

قال سلیم بن قیس: فقلت لسلمان: أفبایعت أبا بكر - یا سلمان - ولم تقل شیئا ؟ قال: قد قلت -بعد ما بایعت -: تبا لكم سائر الدهر أو تدرون ما صنعتم بأنفسكم ؟ أصبتم وأخطأتم أصبتم سنة منكان قبلكم من الفرقة والاختلاف، وأخطأتم سنة نبیكم حتى أخرجتموها من معدنها وأهلها. فقالعمر: یا سلمان، أما إذ بایع صاحبك وبایعت فقل ما شئت وافعل ما بدا لك ولیقل صاحبك ما بدا له.

5 – The companions of Amir-ul-Momineenasws establish the argument

against the usurpers: The words ofSalmanar after the allegiance

Sulaym Bin Qays said, ‘I said to Salmanar, ‘So, you paid allegianceto Abu Bakr, O Salmanar, and did not say anything?’ Hear said,‘Iar said, after having paid allegiance, ‘Woe unto you for the rest ofeternity. Do you know what you have done to yourselves? You areright, and you have erred as well. You are right in that you havechosen the way of those have been before you for sectarianism andinfighting, and you have erred from the Sunnah of your Prophetsaww,to the extent that you have taken it out from is mine, and itsdeserving onesasws’. Umar said, ‘O Salmanar, now that yourcompanionasws has paid allegiance and so have you, you can saywhat you like and do what you like, and your companionasws can saywhat heasws wants’.

قال سلمان: فقلت: سمعت رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله یقول: (إن علیك وعلى صاحبك الذيبایعته مثل ذنوب جمیع أمته إلى یوم القیامة ومثل عذابهم جمیعا). فقال: قل ما شئت، ألیس قدبایعت ولم یقر االله عینیك بأن یلیها صاحبك ؟ فقلت: أشهد أني قد قرأت في بعض كتب االله المنزلة:(إنك - باسمك ونسبك وصفتك - باب من أبواب جهنم) فقالوا لي: قل ما شئت، ألیس قد أزالها االله

عن أهل هذا البیت الذین اتخذتموهم أربابا من دون االله ؟

Salmanar said, ‘Iar said, ‘Iar have heard the Messenger ofAllahsaww say that to you (Umar) and to your companion (Abu Bakr)whom you have paid allegiance to, will be the like (carrying) sins ofthe entire community up to the Day of Judgement, and the like oftheir entire Punishment’. He said, ‘Say what you like. Have you notpaid allegiance, and Allahazwj did not Accept that yourar eyes see itgo to yourar companionasws?’ Iar said, ‘Iartestify that Iar have read in

some Books of Allahazwj Sent down that you, by your name and yourlineage and our characteristics on a door from the door of Hell’. Hesaid to mear, ‘Say what you like, has not Allahazwj Taken away fromthe Peopleasws of this Household whom youar have taken as lordsbesides Allahazwj?’

فقلت له: أشهد أني سمعت رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله یقول، وسألته عن هذه الایة: (فیومئذلا یعذب عذابه أحد ولا یوثق وثاقه أحد)، فأخبرني بأنك أنت هو. فقال عمر: أسكت، أسكت االلهنامتك، أیها العبد، یابن اللخناء فقال علي علیه السلام: أقسمت علیك یا سلمان لما سكت. فقالسلمان: واالله لو لم یأمرني علي علیه السلام بالسكوت لخبرته بكل شیئ نزل فیه، وكل شیئ سمعتهمن رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله فیه وفي صاحبه. فلما رأني عمر قد سكت قال لي: إنك له

لمطیع مسلم.

Iar said to him, ‘Iar bear witness that Iar have heard the Messengerof Allahsaww say, and Iar asked himsawwabout this Verse “[89:25] Buton that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) Hischastisement, [89:26] And no one shall bind with (anything like)His binding”, hesaww informed mear that it means you’. Umar said,‘Silence, silence, may Allahazwj Make you sleep (die), O slave, O sonof the evil-tongued’.

Aliasws said: ‘Iasws give youar a vow, O Salmanar, keep quiet’.Salmanar said, ‘By Allahazwj, had Aliasws not ordered mear to keepquiet, Iar would have informed him of everything that had Comedown regarding him, and everything that Iar have heard from theMessenger of Allahsaww regarding him and his companion’. WhenUmar saw mear that Iar have observed silence, he said to mear,‘Youar are an obedient submitter to himasws’.

كلمة أبي ذر بعد البیعةفلما أن بایع أبو ذر والمقداد ولم یقولا شیئا قال عمر: یا سلمان، ألا تكف كما كف صاحباك ؟واالله ما أنت بأشد حبا لأهل هذا البیت منهما ولا أشد تعظیما لحقهم منهما، وقد كفا كما ترى وبایعا.فقال أبو ذر: یا عمر، أفتعیرنا بحب آل محمد وتعظیمهم ؟ لعن االله - وقد فعل - من أبغضهموافترى علیهم وظلمهم حقهم وحمل الناس على رقابهم ورد هذه الامة القهقرى على أدبارها. فقال

عمر: آمین لعن االله من ظلمهم حقهم لا واالله ما لهم فیها من حق وما هم فیها وعرض الناس إلاسواء. قال أبو ذر: فلم خاصمتم الأنصار بحقهم وحجتهم ؟

The words of Abu Dharrar after theallegiance

When Abu Dharrar and Al-Miqdadar paid allegiance without havingsaid a word, Umar said, ‘O Salmanar, why did you not leave off likethese two companions of yours? By Allahazwj, youar are not strongerin yourar love of the Peopleasws of this Household that these twoar,nor stronger in respecting themasws that these twoar, and theyarheldback as youar have seen, and paid allegiance. Abu Dharrar said, ‘Areyou taunting usar with the love of the Progenyasws ofMohammedsaww?

May Allahazwj Curse (you) – and Heazwj did Curse – the one whoharbours hatred towards themasws, and fabricates to themasws, anddoes injustice on theirasws rights, and make the people to attacktheirasws necks, and revert this community back on its prior beliefs’.Umar said, ‘Amen, may Allahazwj Curse the one who is unjust ontheirasws rights. No, by Allahazwj, there is nothing in this forthemasws of theirasws rights, and theyasws do not have in this butexcept for equality with the people’. Abu Dharrar said, ‘Why did youthen antagonise the ‘Al-Ansar’ by their rights and their arguments?’

كلمة أمیر المؤمنین علیه السلام بعد البیعةفقال علي علیه السلام لعمر: یابن صهاك، فلیس لنا فیها حق وهي لك ولابن آكلة الذبان ؟ فقالعمر: كف الان یا أبا الحسن إذ بایعت، فإن العامة رضوا بصاحبي ولم یرضوا، بك فما ذنبي ؟فقال علي علیه السلام: ولكن االله عز وجل ورسوله لم یرضیا إلا بي، فابشر أنت وصاحبك ومناتبعكما ووازركما بسخط من االله وعذابه وخزیه. ویلك یابن الخطاب، لو ترى ماذا جنیت علىنفسك لو تدري ما منه خرجت وفیما دخلت وما ذا جنیت على نفسك وعلى صاحبك ؟ فقال أبو

بكر: یا عمر، أما إذ قد بایعنا وآمنا شره وفتكه وغائلته فدعه یقول ما شاء.

Words of Amir-ul-Momineenasws afterthe allegiance

Aliasws said to Umar: ‘O son of Sahhaak, there is no right forusasws in this (Caliphate), and it is for you, and the son of the onewho used to eat swarms of flies? Umar said, ‘Be silent now, O AbuAl-Hassanasws since youaswshave now paid allegiance. Since thegeneral public are happy with my companion and are not happy withyouasws, so what is my fault?’ Aliasws said: ‘But, Allahazwj Mighty andMajestic, and Hisazwj Messengersaww were never happy except withmeasws. Receive news that you, and your companion, and the onewho followed the two of you, and strengthened you two, of the Wrathof Allahazwj and Hisazwj Punishment, and shame. Woe be unto you, Oson of Al-Khattaab, can you not see what you have gained foryourself, and what you have come out of and into what you haveentered, and what you have done for yourself and your companion?’Abu Bakr said, ‘O Umar, but heasws has paid allegiance to us, andwe are safe from its evil, and its calamity. Let himasws say whatheasws wants to’.

أصحاب الصحیفة الملعونة في تابوت جهنمفقال علي علیه السلام: لست بقائل غیر شیئ واحد. أذكركم باالله أیها الأربعة - یعنیني وأبا ذروالزبیر والمقداد -: سمعت رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله یقول: إن تابوتا من نار فیه اثنا عشررجلا، ستة من الأولین وستة من الاخرین، في جب في قعر جهنم في تابوت مقفل، على ذلك الجبصخرة. فإذا أراد االله أن یسعر جهنم كشف تلك الصخرة عن ذلك الجب فاستعرت جهنم من وهج

ذلك الجب ومن حره.

The companions of the accursedagreement are in the Fire of Hell

Aliasws said: ‘Iasws am not going to say apart from one thing.Iasws remind you four’ – meaning myself (Salmanar), and AbuDharrar, and Al-Zubeyr and Al-Miqdadar – ‘Iasws heard the Messengerof Allahsaww say that: ‘There is a coffin of Fire in which will be twelvemen, six from the former ones and six from the later ones in a pit inthe bottom of Hell inside a locked coffin, on top of which is a rock.Whenever Allahazwj Intends to increase the heat of Hell, Heazwj willRemove that rock from that pit. Hell will be set ablaze from the glowof that pit and its heat’.

قال علي علیه السلام: فسألت رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله عنهم - وأنتم شهود به - عنالأولین، فقال: أما الأولون فابن آدم الذي قتل أخاه، وفرعون الفراعنة، والذي حاج إبراهیم فيربه، ورجلان من بني إسرائیل بدلا كتابهم وغیرا سنتهم، أما أحدهما فهود الیهود والاخر نصرالنصارى، وإبلیس سادسهم. وفي الاخرین الدجال وهؤلاء الخمسة أصحاب الصحیفة والكتابوجبتهم وطاغوتهم الذي تعاهدوا علیه وتعاقدوا على عداوتك یا أخي، وتظاهرون علیك بعدي، هذاوهذا حتى سماهم وعدهم لنا. قال سلمان: فقلنا: صدقت، نشهد أنا سمعنا ذلك من رسول االله صلى

االله علیه وآله.

Aliasws said: ‘Iasws asked the Messenger of Allahsaww about them– and you four are witness to it – about the former ones, hesaww said:‘But as for the former ones, it is the sonas of Adamas who killed hisbrotheras, and Pharaoh of the Pharaohs, and the one who arguedwith Ibrahimsa about hisas Lordazwj, and two men from the Children ofIsrael who altered their Books and replaced their ways, as for one ofthem made the Jews to be Jews, and the other one made theChristians to be Christians, and Ibleesla is the sixth of them.

And regarding the later ones, it included these five, thecompanions of the agreement and the writing, and are their obligorsand their tyrants who made their vows and held on to their beliefs onbeing inimical to youasws O mysaww brother, and they will makeappear to youasws after mesaww, this one and this one, until

hesaww named them and counted them for us. Salmanar said, ‘Wesaid, ‘Youasws have spoken the truth, we testify that we have heardthat from the Messenger of Allahsaww’.

كلمة رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله في عثمان والزبیرفقال عثمان: یا أبا الحسن، أما عندك وعند أصحابك هؤلاء حدیث في ؟ فقال علي علیهالسلام: بلى، سمعت رسول االله یلعنك مرتین ثم لم یستغفر االله لك بعد ما لعنك. فغضب عثمان ثمقال: ما لي وما لك ولا تدعني على حال، عهد النبي ولا بعده. فقال علي علیه السلام: نعم، فأرغماالله أنفك. فقال عثمان: فو االله لقد سمعت من رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله یقول: (إن الزبیر یقتلمرتدا عن الأسلام) قال سلمان: فقال علي علیه السلام لي - فیما بیني وبینه -: صدق عثمان، وذلك

أنه یبایعني بعد قتل عثمان وینكث بیعتي فیقتل مرتدا.

Words of the Messenger ofAllahsaww regarding Usman and Al-

ZubeyrUsman said, ‘O Abu Al-Hassanasws, but is there with youasws andwith these companions of yoursasws a Hadith regarding myself?’Aliasws said: ‘Yes, Iasws heard the Messenger of Allahsaww curse youtwice, then did not seek Forgiveness from Allahazwj for you afterhaving cursed you’. Usman got angry, then said, ‘What is it to meand what is it to youasws that youasws do not leave me to myself,neither in the era of the Prophetsaww, nor after himsaww.

Aliasws said: ‘Yes, may Allahazwj Grind your nose’ (Humiliate you).Usman said, ‘By Allahazwj, I have heard from the Messenger ofAllahsaww, hesaww said that: ‘Al-Zubeyr will be killed as an apostatefrom Islam’. Salmanarsaid, ‘Aliasws said to mear – just betweenmear and himasws – Usman spoke the truth, and that he will payallegiance to measws after the killing of Usman, and will break theallegiance and will be killed as an apostate.

العجل ومن تبعه. فعلي في شبه هارون وعتیق في شبه العجل وعمر في شبه السامري.

Apostasy of the people after theMessenger of Allahsaww, except for

fourSalmanar said, ‘Aliasws said that: ‘The whole of the people turnedapostate, after the Messenger of Allahsaww, except for four’. After theMessenger of Allahsaww, the people became at the position ofHarounas and the ones who followed himas, and the position of thecalf and the ones who followed it. As for Aliasws, heasws was in theposition of Harounas, and Ateeq (Abu Bakr) was in the position of thecalf, and Umar was in the position of Al-Samiri[16].

وسمعت رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله یقول: لیجیئن قوم من أصحابي من أهل العلیة والمكانةمني لیمروا على الصراط. فإذا رأیتهم ورأوني وعرفتهم وعرفوني اختلجوا دوني. فأقول: أيرب، أصحابي أصحابي فیقال: ما تدري ما أحدثوا بعدك، إنهم ارتدوا على أدبارهم حیث فارقتهم.

فأقول: بعدا وسحقا.

And Iar heard the Messenger of Allahsaww say: ‘There will come agroup of mysaww companions from the people who used to be held inhigh regard and position with mesaww, to cross over the Bridge. Theywill see mesaww, and Isaww will see them, and Isaww will recognisethem and they will recognise mesaww. They will be taken away frommesaww. Isaww will say: ‘O Lordazwj, mysaww companions,mysaww companions!’ Heazwj will Say: ‘Don’t yousaww know what theydid after yousaww, they turned back on their backs as soon as

yousaww parted from them’. Isaww will say: ‘Be distant and getcrushed’.

وسمعت رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله یقول: لتركبن أمتي سنة بني إسرائیل حذو النعلبالنعل وحذو القذة بالقذة، شبرا بشبر وذراعا بذراع وباعا بباع، حتى لو دخلوا جحرا لدخلوا فیه.معهم. إن التوراة والقرآن كتبه ملك واحد في رق واحد بقلم واحد، وجرت الأمثال والسنن سواء

And Iar heard the Messenger of Allahsaww say:‘Mysaww community will adopt the way of the Children of Israel, likethe slipper follows the slipper, step by step, inch by inch, and cubit bycubit, to the extent that if they entered into a hole, so will they alongwith them. The Torah and the Quran were written by one Angel, inone Parchment, with one Pen, and the Parables and the Sunnahbecame the same’.

IBLEESla AND THE FOUNDER OF AL-SAQIFA ON THE DAY OF JUDGEMENTعن أبان بن أبي عیاش عن سلیم بن قیس الهلالي، قال: سمعت سلمان الفارسي یقول: إذا كان یومالقیامة یؤتى بإبلیس مزموما بزمام من نار، ویؤتى بزفرمزموما بزمامین من نار فینطلق إلیهإبلیس فیصرخ ویقول: ثكلتك أمك، من أنت؟ أنا الذي فتنت الأولین والآخرین وأنا مزموم بزمام

واحد وأنت مزموم بزمامین فیقول: أنا الذي أمرت فأطعت، وأمر االله فعصي.From Abaan Bin Abu Ayyash, from Sulaym Bin Qays Al-Hilali

who said, ‘I heard Salman Al-Farsyar say: ‘When it will be the Day ofJudgement, Ibleesla will be brought chained with a rein of Fire, andthey will come with Zafar (Umar) chained with two reins of Fire.

Ibleesla will rush towards him. Hela will scream at him saying,‘May your mother be bereft of you, who are you? Ila am the one whocorrupted the former ones and the later ones, and Ila have beenchained with one rein of Fire while you have been chained with tworeins of Fire’.

He will say, ‘I am the one who issued the orders and was obeyed,and I disobeyed the Order of Allahazwj’.

وقال سلیم: وحدثني أبو ذر وسلمان والمقداد، ثم سمعته من علي علیه السلام، قالوا: إن رجلا فاخرعلي بن أبي طالب علیه السلام، فقال رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله لعلي علیه السلام: أي أخي،فاخر العرب، فأنت أكرمهم ابن عم وأكرمهم أبا وأكرمهم أخا وأكرمهم نفسا وأكرمهم نسباوأكرمهم زوجة وأكرمهم ولدا وأكرمهم عما، وأعظمهم عناء بنفسك ومالك، وأتمهم حلما وأقدمهمسلما وأكثرهم علما. وأنت أقرأهم لكتاب االله وأعلمهم بسنن االله وأشجعهم قلبا في لقاء یوم الهیج،وأجودهم كفا وأزهدهم في الدنیا وأشدهم اجتهادا وأحسنهم خلقا وأصدقهم لسانا وأحبهم إلى االله

وإلي.

And Sulaym said, ‘It was narrated to me by Abu Dharrar andSalmanar, and Al-Miqdadar, then I heard it from Aliasws that, ‘A manprided himself over Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws. The Messenger ofAllahsaww said to Aliasws: ‘Yes, mysaww brotherasws, the Arabs pridethemselves, but youasws are more prestigious than them as a cousin,and more prestigious than them as a father, and more prestigiousthan them as a brother, and more prestigious than them as yourself,and more prestigious than them by lineage, and more prestigiousthan them as a husband, and more prestigious than them as a son,and more prestigious than them as an uncle, and greater than themfor having tolerated more hardship on yourselfasws andyourasws wealth, and more complete in forbearance than them, andforemost in submission than them, and more knowledgeable thanthem, and youaswsare more literate than them of the Book ofAllahazwj, and more knowledgeable than them of the Sunnah ofAllahazwj, and braver than them in heart when meeting the enemy,

and more generous than them by youraswshand, and more ascetic ofthem in the world, and more harsher in yourasws struggles, and betterthan them in morals, and more truthful than them by the tongue, andmore beloved by Allahazwj and to mesaww’.

إخبار النبي صلى االله علیه وآله بظلم الأمة لأمیر المؤمنین علیه السلاموستبقى بعدي ثلاثین سنة تعبد االله وتصبر على ظلم قریش، ثم تجاهدهم في سبیل االله عزوجل إذا وجدت أعوانا. تقاتل على تأویل القرآن كما قاتلت معي على تنزیله الناكثین والقاسطینوالمارقین من هذه الأمة. ثم تقتل شهیدا تخضب لحیتك من دم رأسك. قاتلك یعدل عاقر الناقة في

البغض إلى االله والبعد من االله ومني، ویعدل قاتل یحیى بن زكریا وفرعون ذا الأوتاد.

The news given by the Prophetsaww ofthe injustices of the communitytowards Amir-ul-Momineenasws

Hesaww said: ‘Youasws will remain after mesaww for thirty years.Youasws will worship Allahazwj and observe patience on the injusticesof the Qureish, then youasws should fight against them in the way ofAllahazwj if youasws were to find ‘Al-Ansar’. Youasws will fight againstthem on the explanation of the Quran just as Isawwhave foughtagainst them on its Revelation - the breakers (of the Covenant) andthe unjust and the renegades of this community. Then youasws will bekilled and your beard will be dyed by the blood of yourasws head.Youraswskiller will be like the one who cut the legs of the she-camel(of Prophet Salehsa) in the hatred towards Allahazwj, and is remotefrom Allahazwj and from mesaww, he will be like the one who killedYahya Bin Zakariyyasa and like the Pharaoh along with the army’.

البسطة وفي العشیرة وفي الصهر، وفي النجدة في الحرب، وفي الجود وفي الماعون وفي العلمبالقضاء وفي القرابة للرسول والعلم بالقضاء والفصل وفي حسن البلاء في الإسلام. إن علیا في كل

أمر أمره علي، فرحم االله علیا وصلى علیه. ثم بكى حتى بل لحیته.

Speech of Al-Hassan Al-Basry aboutthe virtues of Amir-ul-Momineenasws

Abaan said that this Hadith was narrated to him by Al-Hassan Al-Basry from Abu Dharrar, ‘Sulaym spoke the truth, and AbduDharrar spoke the truth for Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws, the foremost inthe Religion, and the knowledge, and the wisdom, and theunderstanding, and in the opinion, and the socialising, and in thepreference, and in the reputation, and in the relationships, and forhelp in the battle, and in the generosity, and in the kindness, and inthe knowledge of Judgements, and in being close relation with theMessengersaww, and the knowledge of the Judgements, and theintricacies (of speech) and in betterment in Islam. Aliasws was highestin every matter of hisasws. May Allahazwj have Mercy on himasws andSend Blessings on himasws’. Then he wept until his beard was wet(with the tears)’.

قال: فقلت له: یا أبا سعید، أتقول لأحد غیر النبي (صلى االله علیه) إذا ذكرته؟ فقال: ترحم علىالمسلمین إذا ذكرتهم وصل على محمد وآل محمد. وإن علیا خیر آل محمد. فقلت: یا أبا سعید، خیرمن حمزة ومن جعفر ومن فاطمة ومن الحسن والحسین؟ فقال: إي واالله، إنه لخیر منهم، ومن یشكأنه خیر منهم؟ فقلت له: بما ذا؟ قال: إنه لم یجر علیه اسم شرك ولا كفر ولا عبادة صنم ولا شرب

خمر. وعلي خیر منهم بالسبق إلى الإسلام والعلم بكتاب االله وسنة نبیه.

So, I said to him, ‘O Abu Saeed, do you say for anyone, apartfrom the Prophetsaww, “May the Blessings of Allahazwj be upon him”,when you mention him?’ He said, ‘I ask for Mercy to be upon theMuslims when I mention them, and Blessings uponMohammedsaww and the progenyasws of Mohammedsaww, andAliasws is the best of the Progenyasws of Mohammedsaww’. I said, ‘O

Abu Saeed, better than Hamzaas, and Ja’faras, and Fatimaasws, andAl-Hassanasws, and Al-Husaynasws?’ He said, ‘Yes, by Allahazwj,heasws is better than them, and who will doubt that heasws is betterthan them?’ I asked him, ‘Why is that?’ He said, ‘Heasws neveruttered a name of Polytheism (Shirk) nor of disbelief, nor didheasws ever worship idols, nor ever drunk intoxicants. And Aliasws isbetter than them by being foremost in Islam, and by the knowledgeof the Book of Allahazwj and the Sunnah of Hisazwj Prophetsaww.

وإن رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله قال لفاطمة علیها السلام: (زوجتك خیر أمتي)، فلو كانفي الأمة خیرا منه لاستثناه. وإن رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله آخى بین أصحابه، وآخى بین عليونفسه، فرسول االله خیرهم نفسا وخیرهم أخا. ونصبه یوم غدیر خم وأوجب له من الولایة علىالناس مثل ما أوجب لنفسه فقال: (من كنت مولاه فعلي مولاه). وقال له: (أنت مني بمنزلة هارونمن موسى)، ولم یقل ذلك لأحد من أهل بیته ولا لأحد من أمته غیره. وله سوابق كثیرة ومناقب

لیس لأحد من الناس مثلها.

The Messenger of Allahsaww said to Fatimaasws: ‘Isaww gotyouasws married to the best of mysawwcommunity’. Had there beenanyone better in the community hesaww would have made anexception for it. And the Messenger of Allahsaww establishedbrotherhood between hissaww companions, and brotherhood betweenAliasws and himselfsaww. The Messenger of Allahsaww is better thanthem and better than them as a brother. And hesaww establishedhimasws on the Day of Ghadeer Khumm, and more than obligated theWilayah on the people, just like what hesaww more than obligated itupon himselfsaww. Hesaww said: ‘The one who’s Master Isaww was,Aliasws is his Master’. And hesaww said to himasws: ‘Youasws are untomesaww of the status of Harounas had with Musasa’, and hesaww neversaid that to anyone from hissaww Household, nor to anyone from thecommunity apart from himasws. For himasws there are numerousprecedence, and merits which are not for anyone from the people,the like of these’.

قال: فقلت له: من خیر هذه الأمة بعد علي علیه السلام؟ قال: زوجته وابناه. قلت: ثم من؟ قال:ثم جعفر وحمزة. إن خیر الناس أصحاب الكساء الذین نزلت فیهم آیة التطهیر، ضم فیه رسول االلهصلى االله علیه وآله نفسه وعلیا وفاطمة والحسن والحسین، ثم قال: هؤلاء ثقتي وعترتي في أهلبیتي، فأذهب االله عنهم الرجس وطهرهم تطهیرا. فقالت أم سلمة: أدخلني معك ومعهم في الكساء.

فقال لها: یا أم سلمة، أنت بخیر وإلى خیر، وإنما نزلت هذه الآیة في وفي هؤلاء خاصة.

I said to him, ‘Who is the best of this community after Aliasws?’ Hesaid, ‘Hisasws wifeasws, and hisaswssonsasws’. I said, ‘Then who?’ Hesaid, ‘Then Ja’faras, and Hamzaas. The best of the people are theCompanions of the Blanket (As’haab Al-Kisaa) regarding whom theVerse of the Purification was revealed. Included in it was theMessenger of Allahsaww himselfsaww, and Aliasws, and Fatimaasws,and Al-Hassanaswsand Al-Husaynasws. Then hesaww said:‘Theseasws are mysaww trusted ones, and mysaww Family among thePeopleasws of mysaww Household. Allahazwj has Kept away fromthemasws the impurity, and Purified them a thorough purifying’. UmmSalmaar said, ‘Include mear along with yousaww and with themasws inthe Blanket’. Hesaww said to herar: ‘O Umm Salmaar, youar are withgood and upon good, but this Verse has come down especiallyregarding myselfsaww and themasws’.

Hassan Al-Basry’s attempt to justifyhis own hypocrisy

I said, ‘Allahazwj! O Abu Saeed, what are you reporting regardingAliasws and what has been heard from you saying regarding

himasws?’ He said, ‘O brother, I am trying to save my blood fromthese oppressive tyrants, may the Curse of Allahazwj be upon them.O my brother, had it not been for that, I would have been lifted by thewood (my funeral would have taken place), but, I am saying whatyou have heard so that it would reach them and they would holdback from me. But what I mean by hatred towards Aliasws is hatredtowards other than Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws, so that they will countme as a friend to them. Allahazwj has Said “[23:96] Repel evil bywhat is best”, it means the ‘Taqqiya’ (dissimulation)’.

DIFFERENCES IN THE COMMUNITYAND ITS SECTS

افتراق الأمة إلى ثلاث وسبعین فرقةقال أبان: قال سلیم: سمعت علي بن أبي طالب علیه السلام یقول: إن الأمة ستفترق على ثلاثوسبعین فرقة، اثنتان وسبعون فرقة في النار وفرقة في الجنة. وثلاث عشرة فرقة من الثلاث

والسبعین تنتحل محبتنا أهل البیت، واحدة منها في الجنة واثنتا عشرة في النار

Division of the community intoseventy three sects

Abaan said that Sulaym said, ‘I heard Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws saythat: ‘The community will be divided into seventy three sects,seventy two sects will be in the Fire and one sect will be in theParadise. Thirteen of the seventy-three sects will arrogate to loveusasws the Peopleasws of the Household, one of these will be in theParadise and twelve will be in the Fire.

تعیین الفرقة الناجیةوأما الفرقة الناجیة المهدیة المؤملة المؤمنة المسلمة الموافقة المرشدة فهي المؤتمنة بيالمسلمة لأمري المطیعة لي المتبرئة من عدوي المحبة لي والمبغضة لعدوي، التي قد عرفت حقيوإمامتي وفرض طاعتي من كتاب االله وسنة نبیه، فلم ترتد ولم تشك لما قد نور االله في قلبها منمعرفة حقنا وعرفها من فضلها، وألهمها وأخذها بنواصیها فأدخلها في شیعتنا حتى اطمأنت قلوبها

واستیقنت یقینا لا یخالطه شك.

Specifications of the rescued sectAnd as for the rescued sect, it is the guided, the hopeful, and thesubmissive in accordance with the guideasws. This sect is the trustedone to follow the orders that Iasws issue, and it keeps away frommyasws enemies, and loves measws, and harbours hatred towardsmyasws enemies. It has recognised myasws rights, andmyaswsImamate, and the obligation to obey measws from the Book ofAllahazwj and the Sunnah of Hisazwj Prophetsaww, and has not turnedapostate nor does it have any doubts, for Allahazwj has Enlightenedits hearts by the recognition of ourasws rights, and have understoodits merits, and Inspired it and Taken it by its corners and entered itinto the hearts of ourasws Shiites until they achieved reassurance intheir hearts and had firm conviction, not mixed with doubt’.

أئمة الفرقة الناجیةإني أنا وأوصیائي بعدي إلى یوم القیامة هداة مهتدون، الذین قرنهم االله بنفسه ونبیه في آي منالكتاب كثیرة، وطهرنا وعصمنا وجعلنا شهداء على خلقه وحجته في أرضه وخزانه على علمهومعادن حكمه وتراجمة وحیه وجعلنا مع القرآن والقرآن معنا لا نفارقه ولا یفارقنا حتى نرد على

رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله حوضه كما قال.

Imams of the rescued sectIasws am, and the successorsasws after measws, are Guides and theGuided ones up to the Day of Judgement, whom Allahazwj hasJoined themasws to Himselfazwj, and with Hisazwj Prophetsaww innumerous Verses from the Book, and has Purified usasws, and Madeusasws to be infallible and as witnesses over Hisazwj creation, andHisazwj Proof in hisazwj earth, and the trustees on Hisazwj Knowledge,and the mine of Hisazwj Wisdom, and the Interpreters of

Hisazwj Revelation, and Made usasws to be with the Quran, and theQuran to be with usasws, it will not separate from usasws nor will weseparate from it until weasws return to the Messenger of Allahsaww tohissaww Fountain as hesaww has said’.

الفرق الثلاث والسبعون یوم القیامةوتلك الفرقة الواحدة من الثلاث والسبعین فرقة هي الناجیة من النار ومن جمیع الفتنوالضلالات والشبهات، وهم من أهل الجنة حقا، وهم سبعون ألفا یدخلون الجنة بغیر حساب.وجمیع تلك الفرق الاثنتین والسبعین هم المتدینون بغیر الحق، الناصرون لدین الشیطان الآخذونعن إبلیس وأولیائه، هم أعداء االله تعالى وأعداء رسوله وأعداء المؤمنین، یدخلون النار بغیرحساب. براء من االله ومن رسوله، نسوا االله ورسوله وأشركوا باالله وكفروا به وعبدوا غیر االله منحیث لا یعلمون، وهم یحسبون أنهم یحسنون صنعا، یقولون یوم القیامة: (واالله ربنا ما كنا

مشركین) ، (یحلفون له كما یحلفون لكم ویحسبون أنهم على شیئ ألا إنهم هم الكاذبون).

The seventy third sect on the Day ofJudgement

And that one sect out of the seventy three sects is the one rescuedfrom the Fire and from all the tribulation and the errors and theconfusion, and they are the true inhabitants of the Paradise, andseventy thousand of them will enter the Paradise without reckoning.And all those seventy two sects have taken to the Religion withoutthe truth, helping the religion of the Satan, taking it from Ibleesla andhisla friends. They are the enemies of AllahazwjandHisazwj Messengersaww, and the enemies of the believers, and will beentering the Fire without reckoning. They are remote fromAllahazwj and from Hisazwj Messengersaww, having forgottenAllahazwj and HisazwjMessengersaww and have associated withAllahazwj, and denied Himazwj, and have worshipped others apartfrom Allahazwj without having realised it, and they count themselvesas having done something good.

They will say on the Day of Judgement “[6:23] By Allah, ourLord, we were not polytheists”; “[58:18] then they will swear toHim as they swear to you, and they think that they havesomething; no surely they are the liars”.

المستضعفون دینیاقال: فقلت: یا أمیر المؤمنین، أرأیت من قد وقف فلم یأتم بكم ولم یعادكم ولم ینصب لكم ولمیتعصب ولم یتولكم ولم یتبرء من عدوكم وقال: (لا أدري) وهو صادق؟ قال: لیس أولئك منالثلاث والسبعین فرقة، إنما عنى رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله بالثلاث والسبعین فرقة الباغین

الناصبین الذین قد شهروا أنفسهم ودعوا إلى دینهم.

The weak religious onesI said, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws, do youasws see that the one whohas paused, and was never completely with youasws, and was neverinimical to youasws, and never placed emphasis on youasws, and wasnever prejudicial against you, and never befriended youasws, andnever kept away from yourasws enemies, and said, ‘I don’t know’, andhe is right?’ Heasws said: ‘Those are not from the seventy threesects, but what the Messenger of Allahsaww meant by the seventythree sects are the rebels, the oppressors who publicisedthemselves and called towards their own religion’.

ففرقة واحدة منها تدین بدین الرحمن، واثنتان وسبعون تدین بدین الشیطان وتتولى على قبولهاوتتبرأ ممن خالفها. فأما من وحد االله وآمن برسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله ولم یعرف ولایتنا ولاضلالة عدونا ولم ینصب شیئا ولم یحل ولم یحرم، وأخذ بجمیع ما لیس بین المختلفین من الأمة فیهخلاف في أن االله عز وجل أمر به، وكف عما بین المختلفین من الأمة خلاف في أن االله أمر به أو

نهى عنه، فلم ینصب شیئا ولم یحلل ولم یحرم ولا یعلم ورد علم ما أشكل علیه إلى االله فهذا ناج.

One sect will make it a religion to be on the Religion of thebeneficents, and the seventy two will make it a religion to be on thereligion of the Satan, and befriend those that have accepted it andkeep away from those that have opposed it. As for the one whobelieves in Oneness of Allahazwj and believes in the Messenger of

Allahsaww, and never understood ourasws Wilayah, nor the straying ofourasws enemies, and never established anything, and did not makeanything to be permissible or prohibited, and took all that is notamong the differences in the community, in case they end up goingagainst the Order of Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic, with regards to it,and paused at what is among the differences in the community, incase they oppose what Allahazwjhas Ordered with regards to it orProhibited it, and never established anything, and never madeanything permissible or prohibited, and do not know who to refer towhen they come across what is difficult for them, their case will beleft to (the Mercy) of Allahazwj, so these will be rescued.

أهل الجنة وأهل النار وأصحاب الأعرافوهذه الطبقة بین المؤمنین وبین المشركین، هم أعظم الناس وجلهم، وهم أصحاب الحسابوالموازین والأعراف، والجهنمیون الذین یشفع لهم الأنبیاء والملائكة والمؤمنون، ویخرجون من

النار فیسمون (الجهنمیین).

People of the Paradise, and people ofthe Fire and people of the Heights

(A’raaf)And this is the class of people who are in between the Believers andthe Polytheists, they will be the greatest number of people and mostof them, and they are the people of the reckoning, and the Scale andthe Heights, and the Hell-dwellers for whom shall intercede theProphetsas, and the Angels, and the Believers, and will take them outof the Fire. They have been named ‘The Hell-dwellers’.

فأما المؤمنون فینجون ویدخلون الجنة بغیر حساب، أما المشركون فیدخلون النار بغیرحساب. وإنما الحساب على أهل هذه الصفات بین المؤمنین والمشركین، والمؤلفة قلوبهم والمقترفةوالذین خلطوا عملا صالحا وآخر سیئا والمستضعفین الذین لا یستطیعون حیلة الكفر والشرك ولا

یحسنون أن ینصبوا ولا یهتدون سبیلا إلى أن یكونوا مؤمنین عارفین، فهم أصحاب الأعراف،وهؤلاء الله فیهم المشیئة. إن االله عز وجل إن یدخل أحدا منهم النار فبذنبه وإن تجاوز عنه فبرحمته.

As for the Believers, they will be entering the Paradise withoutreckoning. As for the Polytheists, they will be entering the Firewithout reckoning. But rather, the reckoning is on the people of thesecharacteristics of being in between the Believers and the Polytheists,and those whose hearts can be attracted and those who havecommitted good deeds, and delayed the bad ones, and the weakones who do not have the ability against the tricks of the disbeliefand the Polytheism, nor improve upon what they have established,nor choose the path which will make them to be a Believer orknowledgeable, so they are the people of the Heights, and they willbe there at Allahazwj’s Desire. If Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic Makesone of them to enter the Fire it will be due to his sins, and ifHeazwj Elevates him from it, it will be due to Hisazwj Mercy’.

المؤمن والكافر والمستضعففقلت: أصلحك االله، أیدخل النار المؤمن العارف الداعي؟ قال علیه السلام: لا. قلت: أفیدخلالجنة من لا یعرف إمامه؟ قال علیه السلام: لا، إلا أن یشاء االله. قلت: أیدخل الجنة كافر أو مشرك؟

قال: لا یدخل النار إلا كافر، إلا أن یشاء االله.

The Believer, and the Infidel, and theweak one

I said, ‘May Allahazwj Keep youasws well, will the believer whorecognises his callerasws, enter the Fire?’ Heaswssaid: ‘No’. I said,‘Will the one who does not recognise his Imamasws, enter theParadise?’ Heasws said: ‘No, except if Allahazwj so Desires’. I said,‘Will the infidel or the Polytheist enter the Paradise?’ Heasws said,‘None shall enter the Fire except for the infidel, except for whatAllahazwj so Desires’.

قلت: أصلحك االله، فمن لقي االله مؤمنا عارفا بإمامه مطیعا له، أمن أهل الجنة هو؟ قال: نعم إذالقي االله وهو مؤمن من الذین قال االله عز وجل: (الذین آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات)، (الذین آمنوا

وكانوا یتقون)، (الذین آمنوا ولم یلبسوا إیمانهم بظلم).

I said, ‘May Allahazwj Keep youasws well, the one who meetsAllahazwj as a believer, having recognised his Imamasws and havingbeen obedient to himasws, is one of the people of the Paradise?’Heasws said: ‘Yes, if he meets Allahazwj, and he is a believer forwhom Allahazwj has Said “[2:82] And (as for) those who believeand do good deeds”, “[10:63] Those who believe andguarded”, “[6:82] "It is those who believe and confuse not theirbeliefs with wrong”.

قلت: فمن لقي االله منهم على الكبائر؟ قال: هو في مشیته، إن عذبه فبذنبه وإن تجاوز عنهفبرحمته. قلت: فیدخله النار وهو مؤمن؟ قال: نعم بذنبه، لأنه لیس من المؤمنین الذین عنى االله (أنهولي المؤمنین)، لأن الذین عنى االله (أنه لهم ولي) و(أنه لا خوف علیهم ولا هم یحزنون)، هم

المؤمنون (الذین یتقون االله والذین عملوا الصالحات والذین لم یلبسوا إیمانهم بظلم).

I said, ‘If one of them meets Allahazwj having committed majorsins?’ Heasws said: ‘He will be at Allahazwj’s Desire. IfHeazwj Punishes him, it will be due to his sins, and if Heazwj Elevateshim, it would be due to HisazwjMercy’.

I said, ‘He will enter the Fire, and he is a believer?’ Heasws said:‘Yes, due to his sins, because he is not from those believers aboutwhom Allahazwj has Said “[3:68] Allah is the guardian of thebelievers”, because Allahazwj Means “[10:62] Now surely thefriends of Allah - they shall have no fear nor shall they grieve”,they are the believers “[6:82] "It is those who believe andconfuse not their beliefs with wrong”.

الفرق بین الإیمان والإسلامقلت: یا أمیر المؤمنین، ما الإیمان وما الإسلام؟ قال: أما الإیمان فالإقرار بالمعرفة، والإسلامفما أقررت به والتسلیم والطاعة لهم. قلت: الإیمان الإقرار بعد المعرفة به؟ قال: من عرفه االله نفسه

ونبیه وإمامه ثم أقر بطاعته فهو مؤمن. قلت: المعرفة من االله والإقرار من العبد؟ قال: المعرفة مناالله دعاء وحجة ومنة ونعمة، والإقرار من االله قبول العبد، یمن على من یشاء، والمعرفة صنع االله

تعالى في القلب، والإقرار فعال القلب من االله وعصمته ورحمته.

Difference between faith and IslamI said, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws, what is the ‘Eman’ (faith) and whatis Islam?’ Heasws said: ‘As for the Eman, it is acceptance withunderstanding, whereas the Islam is to accept it and submit withobedience’. I said, ‘The Eman is the acceptance after having theunderstanding of it?’ Heasws said: ‘The one whom Allahazwj Makes torecognise Himselfazwj, and his Prophetsaww, and his Imamasws, thenaccepts by obedience, he is a Momin’. I said, ‘The recognition isfrom Allahazwj, and the acceptance is from the servant?’ Heasws said:‘The recognition from Allahazwj is the Call, and the Proof, and Favourand Blessing, and the acceptance from Allahazwj is to Accept theservant Heazwj will Bless whomsoever Heazwj Desires to, and therecognition is what Allahazwj Makes in the heart, and the acceptanceis the deed of the heart from Allahazwj, Hisazwj Protection andHisazwj Mercy’.

تكلیف الجاهل بالحقفمن لم یجعله االله عارفا فلا حجة علیه، وعلیه أن یقف ویكف عما لا یعلم، فلا یعذبه االله علىجهله. فإنما یحمده على عمله بالطاعة ویعذبه على عمله بالمعصیة. ویستطیع أن یطیع ویستطیعأن یعصي، ولا یستطیع أن یعرف ویستطیع أن یجهل؟ هذا محال لا یكون شیئ من ذلك إلا بقضاءمن االله وقدره وعلمه وكتابه بغیر جبر لأنهم لو كانوا مجبورین كانوا معذورین وغیر محمودین.ومن جهل وسعه أن یرد إلینا ما أشكل علیه ومن حمد االله على النعمة واستغفره من المعصیةوأحب المطیعین وحمدهم على الطاعة، وأبغض العاصین وذمهم فإنه یكتفي بذلك إذا رد علمه إلینا.

The efforts of the ignorant by the truth

The one who Allahazwj has not Made to be an ‘A’arif (understandingone), there is no Proof to him, and for him it is to pause where hedoes not know. Allahazwj will not Punish him on his ignorance. Butrather, Heazwj will Praise him on his deeds of obedience, and Punishhim on his deeds of disobedience. And he has the ability that heshould obey, and he has the ability that he should not obey, anddoes he have the ability that he can understand, and does he havethe ability to remain ignorant? This is impossible. There is nothingthat can be from that without Decree of Allahazwj and Hisazwj Power,and Hisazwj Knowledge, and Hisazwj Book without compulsion,because if they were to be under compulsion, they would be in astate of helplessness and not praiseworthy. And the one who isignorant, he has the leniency that he can refer to usasws in what isdifficult for him, and the one who Praises Allahazwj forHisazwj Favours, and seeks Forgiveness for his acts of disobedience,and loves the obedient and praises them on their obedience, andabhors the disobedient ones and condemns them, that would besufficient for him if he were to refer his knowledge to usasws’.

لهذا الحدیث زیادة في (ج) وهي تنطبق على أواسطه هكذا:

This Hadith goes further, and it is applicable in the middle ofit, like this –

أصحاب الحساب والشفاعةیحاسبون، منهم من یغفر له ویدخله الجنة بالإقرار والتوحید، ومنهم من یعذب في النار ثمیشفع له الملائكة والأنبیاء والمؤمنون، فیخرجون من النار ویدخلون الجنة فیسمون فیها(الجهنمیین) منهم أصحاب الإقرار، ولیست الموازین والحساب إلا علیهم، لأن أولیاء االله العارفینالله ولرسوله والحجة في أرضه وشهدائه على خلقه المقرین لهم المطیعین لهم یدخلون الجنة بغیرحساب، والمعاندین لهم المنذرین المكابرین المناصبین أعداء االله یدخلون النار بغیر حساب. وأما ما

بین هذین، فهم جل الناس وهم أصحاب الموازین والحساب والشفاعة.

People of the reckoning and theintercession

They will be reckoned with. Among them will be the one for whomwill be Forgiveness and he will be Made to enter the Paradise, dueto their acceptance and the Oneness of Allahazwj, and among themwill be the one who will be Punished in the Fire, then there will beintercession for him from the Angels, and the Prophetsas and theBelievers. They will be taken out from the Fire and will be made toenter the Paradise. Therein they will be called Hell-dwellers, amongwhom will be people who accepted, and there is no Scale set up andthe Reckoning except for them, because the friends of Allahazwj, theones who recognised Allahazwj (A’arifeen), and friends ofHisazwjMessengersaww, and the Proofsasws on Hisazwj earth andwitnesses over Hisazwj creation, those who accepted themasws andobeyed themasws, will be entering the Paradise without reckoning.And the obstinate to whom the Warners warned, and the arrogantand the Naasibis, the enemies of Allahazwj will be entering the Firewithout Reckoning. But, as for those that are in between these, andthey are most of the people, and they are the people of the Scale,and the Reckoning, and the Intercession’.

دعاء أمیر المؤمنین علیه السلام لسلیم بالولایةقال: قلت: فرجت عني وأوضحت لي وشفیت صدري، فادع االله أن یجعلني لك ولیا في الدنیاوالآخرة. قال: اللهم اجعله منهم. قال: ثم أقبل علي فقال: ألا أعلمك شیئا سمعته من رسول االله

صلى االله علیه وآله، علمه سلمان وأبا ذر والمقداد؟ قلت: بلى، یا أمیر المؤمنین.

Sulaym said, ‘Youasws have turned away (problems) from me, andclarified for me, and healed my chest. Supplicate to Allahazwj thatHeazwj should Make me a friend to youasws in the world and theHereafter’. Heaswssaid: ‘Ourasws Allahazwj! Make him to be amongthem’. Then Aliasws addressed me by saying: ‘Shall Iasws teach youwhat Iasws heard from the Messenger of Allahsaww, that Iasws havetaught Salmanar and Abu Dharrar and Al-Miqdadar?’ I said, ‘Yes, OAmir-ul-Momineenasws’.

قال: قل كلما أصبحت وأمسیت: (اللهم ابعثني على الإیمان بك والتصدیق بمحمد رسولكوالولایة لعلي بن أبي طالب والایتمام بالأئمة من آل محمد، فإني قد رضیت بذلك یا رب)، عشرمرات. قلت: یا أمیر المؤمنین، قد حدثني بذلك سلمان وأبو ذر والمقداد، فلم أدع ذلك منذ سمعته

منهم. قال: لا تدعه ما بقیت.

Heasws said: ‘Recite every morning and evening “Our Allahazwj,Resurrect me on the Eman, and the ratification of Mohammedsaww,Yourazwj Messengersaww, and the Wilayah of Aliasws Bin AbuTalibasws, and all the Imamsasws of the Progenyasws ofMohammedsaww, for I am pleased with that, O Lordazwj”, ten times’. Isaid, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws, that has been narrated to me bySalmanar, and Abu Dharrar and Al-Miqdadar. I have never let go of itsince I heard it from themar’. Heasws said: ‘Do not let go of it for whatremains of your life’.

HADITH 8(8) معنى الإسلام والإیمان

MEANING OF ISLAM AND THE FAITH) 1 ( وعن أبان بن أبي عیاش عن سلیم بن قیس قال: سمعت علي بن أبي طالب علیه السلام -وسأله رجل عن الإیمان - فقال: یا أمیر المؤمنین، أخبرني عن الإیمان، لا أسأل عنه أحدا غیركولا بعدك. فقال علي علیه السلام: جاء رجل إلى النبي صلى االله علیه وآله وسأله عن مثل ما

سألتني عنه، فقال له مثل مقالتك، فأخذ یحدثه. ثم قال له: اقعد. فقال له: آمنت.1 – And from Abaan Bin Abu Ayyah, from Sulaym Bin Qays who

said, ‘I heard Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws – and a man askedhimasws about the Eman (faith) – he said, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws,inform me about the faith, I have not asked about it apart fromyouasws, nor will I ask anyone after youasws’. Aliasws said: ‘A manwent to the Prophetsaww and asked himsaww similar to what you haveasked measws. Hissaww reply to him was similar to what Iasws amgoing to tell you, so take what hesaww narrated to him’. Thenheasws said to him: ‘Be seated’. He said to himasws, ‘I act asyouasws command’.

ثم أقبل علي علیه السلام على الرجل فقال: أما علمت أن جبرئیل أتى رسول االله صلى االلهعلیه وآله في صورة آدمي فقال له: ما الإسلام؟ فقال: (شهادة أن لا إله إلا االله وأن محمدا رسولاالله وإقام الصلاة وإیتاء الزكاة وحج البیت وصیام شهر رمضان والغسل من الجنابة). فقال: وماالإیمان؟ قال: (تؤمن باالله وملائكته وكتبه ورسله وبالحیاة بعد الموت وبالقدر كله خیره وشره

وحلوه ومره).

Then Aliasws faced the man and said: ‘But, get to know thatJibraeel came to the Messenger of Allahsaww in the human form andsaid to himsaww: ‘What is Islam?’ Hesaww said: ‘Testifying that there isno God but Allahazwjand that Mohammedsaww is the Messenger of

Allahsaww, and the establishing of Prayers and the giving of theZakaat, and the Pilgrimage of the House, and the Fasting of theMonth of Ramadhan, and the Major Ablution’.

He said: ‘What is the Eman?’ Hesaww said: ‘Believing in Allahazwj,and the Angels, and Hisazwj Books, and Hisazwj Messengersas, and oflife after death, and Fate (Al-Qadr), all of it, be it good or bad, sweetor sour’.

فلما قام الرجل قال رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله: (هذا جبرئیل، جاءكم لیعلمكم دینكم). فكانكلما قال له رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله شیئا قال له: (صدقت). قال: فمتى الساعة؟ قال: ما

المسؤول عنها بأعلم من السائل. قال: صدقت.

When the man stood up, the Messenger of Allahsaww said: ‘Thiswas Jibraeel. He came to you to teach you about your Religion’.Whatever the Messenger of Allahsaww said to him of anything, he(Jibraeel) said to himsaww, ‘Yousaww have spoken the truth’. He(Jibraeel) said: ‘So, when is the Hour?’ Hesaww said: ‘There is noknowledge of it with the questioned one than there is with thequestioner’. He said, ‘Yousaww have spoken the truth’.

) 2 ( دعائم الإیمانثم قال علي علیه السلام - بعد ما فرغ من قول جبرئیل (صدقت) -: ألا إن الإیمان بني علىأربع دعائم: على الیقین والصبر والعدل والجهاد. فالیقین منه على أربع شعب: على الشوق والشفقوالزهد والترقب. فمن اشتاق إلى الجنة سلا عن الشهوات، ومن أشفق من النار اتقى المحرمات،

ومن زهد في الدنیا هانت علیه المصیبات، ومن ارتقب الموت سارع في الخیرات.

2 – The Pillars of FaithThen Aliasws said, after having related the words of Jibraeel where hesaid, ‘Yousaww have spoken the truth’, ‘But, the Faith is built on fourpillars – on the conviction, and the patience, and the justice, and thestruggle. As for the conviction from it, is on four branches – on the

desire, and the fear, and the asceticism, and the anticipation. Theone who desires for the Paradise will withdraw from the desires, andthe one who has fear from the Fire will keep away from theProhibitions, and the one who is ascetic in the world, his troubles willbecome easy for him, and the one who anticipates the death, willmake haste in doing the good deeds’.

والصبر على أربع شعب: على تبصرة الفطنة وتأول الحكمة ومعرفة العبرة وسنة الأولین.فمن تبصر الفطنة تبین في الحكمة، ومن تبین في الحكمة عرف العبرة، ومن عرف العبرة تأول

الحكمة، ومن تأول الحكمة أبصر العبرة، ومن أبصر العبرة فكأنما كان في الأولین.

And the patience is on four branches – on intelligent observation,and the explanation of the wisdom, and learning a lesson, and theways of the former ones. The one who observes intelligently, thewisdom will become clear for him, and the one for who the wisdombecomes clear, will take a lesson from it, and the one who takes alesson will interpret the wisdom, and the one who interprets thewisdom will take the lesson, and the one who takes the lesson, willbe as if he is among the former ones.

والعدل منه على أربع شعب: على غوامض الفهم وغمر العلم وزهرة الحكم وروضة الحلم.فمن فهم فسر جمل العلم، ومن علم عرضه شرائع الحكمة، ومن حلم لم یفرط في أمره وعاش به

في الناس حمیدا.

From it, Justice is on four branches – On mysteries of theunderstanding, and the immersion in the knowledge, and the flowerof the wisdom, and the garden of the tolerance. The one, whounderstands, will explain all the knowledge, and the one who hasknowledge, the laws of wisdom will present them to him, and the onewho is tolerant, will not waste his affairs, and will live such a life thatthe people will be pleased with him.

والجهاد على أربع شعب: على الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر والصدق في المواطنوالغضب الله وشنآن الفاسقین. فمن أمر بالمعروف شد ظهر المؤمن ومن نهى عن المنكر أرغمأنف الفاسق، ومن صدق في المواطن قضى الذي علیه، ومن شنأ الفاسقین وغضب الله غضب االله

له. وذلك الإیمان ودعائمه وشعبه.

And the Struggle (Jihad) is on four branches – on the enjoining ofthe good, and the forbidding of the evil, and the honesty in thematters, and the anger for the Sake of Allahazwj and abhorrence ofthe evil-doers. The one who enjoins the good will strengthen theback of the believer, and the one who forbids the evil will grind thenose of the evil-doer, and the one who is sincere in the matters willfulfil that which is for him, and the one who abhors the evil-doers,and has anger for the Sake of Allahazwj, Allahazwj Will get Angry onhis behalf. And that is the Eman and its pillars and its branches’.

أدنى درجات الإیمان والكفر والضلالةفقال له: یا أمیر المؤمنین، ما أدنى ما یكون به الرجل مؤمنا، وأدنى ما یكون به كافرا، وأدنىما یكون به ضالا؟ قال: قد سألت فاسمع الجواب: أدنى ما یكون به مؤمنا أن یعرفه االله نفسه فیقرله بالربوبیة والوحدانیة وأن یعرفه نبیه فیقر له بالنبوة وبالبلاغة. وأن یعرفه حجته في أرضهوشاهده على خلقه فیقر له بالطاعة. قال: یا أمیر المؤمنین، وإن جهل جمیع الأشیاء غیر ما

وصفت؟ قال: نعم، إذا أمر أطاع وإذا نهي انتهى.

The minimum levels of the Eman, andthe Kufr (disbelief), and the straying

He said to himasws, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws, what is the minimumby which a man becomes a Momin, and the minimum by which hebecomes a kafir (an infidel), and the minimum by which he strays?’Heasws said: ‘Now that you have asked me, listen to the answer. Theminimum by which one becomes a Momin is that Allahazwj Makeshim to recognise Himselfazwj. He accepts to Himazwj ofHisazwj Lordship, and the Oneness, and he recognisesHisazwj Prophetsaww and accepts hissaww Prophet-hood, andhissaww preaching. And that he recognises the Proofasws inHisazwj earth, and the witness on Hisazwj creatures. He accepts tohimasws by obedience’. I said, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws, if he isignorant of all the other things which youasws have not described?’

Heasws said: ‘Yes, if he is Ordered to do something, he obeys, and ifhe is prohibited from something, he refrains.

وأدنى ما یكون به كافرا أن یتدین بشیئ فیزعم أن االله أمره به - مما نهى االله عنه - ثم ینصبهدینا فیتبرأ ویتولى ویزعم أنه یعبد االله الذي أمره به.

And the minimum, by which one becomes a Kafir, is when hemakes something to be his religion thinking that Allahazwj hasOrdered it to be so – from what Allahazwj has Prohibited from it –then establishes it as his religion. So he keeps away and befriendson the basis of that and thinks that he is worshipping Allahazwj, theOrders which Heazwj has Commanded for.

وأدنى ما یكون به ضالا أن لا یعرف حجة االله في أرضه وشاهده على خلقه الذي أمر االلهبطاعته وفرض ولایته.

And the minimum by which he strays is that he does notrecognise the Proofasws of Allahazwj in Hisazwj earth, and the witnesson Hisazwj creatures whoseasws obedience Allahazwj hasCommanded, and Obligated hisaswsWilayah.

نص الرسول صلى االله علیه وآله على الأئمة الاثني عشر علیهم السلامفقال: یا أمیر المؤمنین، سمهم لي. قال: الذین قرنهم االله بنفسه ونبیه فقال: (أطیعوا االله وأطیعوا

الرسول وأولي الأمر منكم).

Link of the Messenger of Allahsaww tothe twelve Imamsasws

He said, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws, name themasws for me’.Heasws said: ‘The ones whomasws Allahazwj Joined withHimselfazwj and Hisazwj Prophetsaww. Heazwj Said: “[4:59] O you whobelieve! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and thosecharged with authority among you”.

قال: أوضحهم لي. قال: الذین قال رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله في آخر خطبة خطبها ثمقبض من یومه: (إني قد تركت فیكم أمرین لن تضلوا ما تمسكتم بهما: كتاب االله وأهل بیتي، فإناللطیف الخبیر قد عهد إلي أنهما لن یفترقا حتى یردا علي الحوض كهاتین - وأشار بإصبعیهالمسبحتین - ولا أقول كهاتین - وأشار بالمسبحة والوسطى - لأن إحدیهما قدام الأخرى. فتمسكوا

بهما لا تضلوا، ولا تقدموهم فتهلكوا، ولا تخلفوا عنهم فتفرقوا، ولا تعلموهم فإنهم أعلم منكم).

He said, ‘Clarify themasws for me’. Heasws said: ‘The Messengerof Allahsaww said in the last sermon of hissaww sermons, thenhesaww passed away on that day: ‘Isaww have left behind among youtwo matters, the one who holds on to both of them will not stray –Book of Allahazwj and the Peopleasws of mysaww Household. TheKind, the Knower has Promised mesaww that these two will notseparate until returning to measws at the Fountain, just like thesetwo’, - hesaww indicated by joining two of hissaww fingers – ‘Isaww donot say like these two, - and hesaww indicated by the two joint fingers– ‘because one of them precedes the other. Attach yourselves tothese two and you will not stray, and do not precede themasws foryou will be destroyed, and do not stay behind from themasws for youwill be separated, and do not (try to) teach them for theyasws aremore knowledgeable than you all’.

قال: یا أمیر المؤمنین، سمه لي. قال: الذي نصبه رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله بغدیر خم،فأخبرهم (أنه أولى بهم من أنفسهم). ثم أمرهم أن یعلم الشاهد الغائب منهم. فقلت: أنت هو، یا أمیرالمؤمنین؟ قال: أنا أولهم وأفضلهم، ثم ابني الحسن من بعدي أولى بالمؤمنین من أنفسهم. ثم ابنيالحسین من بعده أولى بالمؤمنین من أنفسهم. ثم أوصیاء رسول االله صلى االله علیه وآله حتى یردوا

علیه حوضه واحدا بعد واحد.

He said, ‘O Amir-ul-Momineenasws, name themasws for me’.Heasws said: ‘The oneasws whom the Messenger ofAllahsaww established at Ghadeer Khumm. Hesaww informed themthat heasws is higher to them than their own selves. Thenhesaww ordered them that those present from among them shouldmake it known to those who are absent’. I (Sulaym) said,‘Youasws are heasws, O Amir-ul-Momineenasws?’ heasws said: ‘Iasws am

the first of themasws and the best of themasws, then myasws son Al-Hassanasws from after measws is higher to the believers than theirown selves. Then myasws son Al-Husaynasws from after himasws ishigher to the believers than their own selves. Then thesuccessorsasws of the Messenger of Allahsaww, until theyasws return tohimsawwat hissaww Fountain, one after the other’.

فقام الرجل إلى علي علیه السلام فقبل رأسه، ثم قال: أوضحت لي وفرجت عني وأذهبت كلشیئ في قلبي.

The man stood up in front of Aliasws and kissed hisasws forehead,then said, ‘Youasws have clarified for me, and thrown out from me(my issues), and everything that was in my heart’.

عن أبان بن أبي عیاش عن سلیم، قال: جاء رجل إلى أمیر المؤمنین علیه السلام فسأله عنالإسلام. فقال علیه السلام: إن االله تبارك وتعالى شرع الإسلام وسهل شرائعه لمن ورده وأعزأركانه لمن حاربه، وجعله عزا لمن تولاه، وسلما لمن دخله، وإماما لمن ائتم به، وزینة لمن تحلاه،وعدة لمن انتحله، وعروة لمن اعتصم به، وحبلا لمن تمسك به، وبرهانا لمن تعلمه، ونورا لمناستضاء به، وشاهدا لمن خاصم به، وفلجا لمن حاكم به وعلما لمن وعاه، وحدیثا لمن رواه، وحكمالمن قضى به وحلما لمن جرب، وشفاء ولبا لمن تدبر، وفهما لمن تفطن، ویقینا لمن عقل، وبصیرةلمن عزم، وآیة لمن توسم، وعبرة لمن اتعظ، ونجاة لمن صدق، ومودة لمن أصلح، وزلفى لمناقترب وثقة لمن توكل، ورجاء لمن فوض، وسابقة لمن أحسن، وخیرا لمن سارع، وجنة لمنصبر، ولباسا لمن اتقى، وظهیرا لمن رشد، وكهفا لمن آمن، وأمنة لمن أسلم، وروحا للصادقین،

وموعظة للمتقین ونجاة للفائزین.

From Abaan Bin Abu Ayash, from Sulaym who said, ‘A mancame to Amir-ul-Momineenasws. He asked himasws about Islam.Heasws said: ‘Allahazwj Blessed and High Commenced Made Islam (areligion) and made its Laws easy for the one who came to it, andfortified its Pillars for the one who fought against it, and Honouredthe one who befriended it, and a Sanctuary for the one who enteredinto it, and an Imam for the one who followed it, and a bounty for theone who adopted it, and an outfit for the one who impersonates for it,and a handle for the one who holds on to it, and a rope for the onewho attaches to it, and a proof for the one who learns it, and a lightfor the one who wants to be illuminated with it, and a witness againstthe one who is antagonised by it, and a resource for the one whojudges by it, and a knowledge for the one who realises it, and a

narration for the one who reports it, and a verdict for the one whojudges by it, and a tolerance for the one who tries it out, and ahealing for the one who ponders over it, and an understanding forthe one who discerned it, and a conviction for the one is intelligent,and a vision for the one who is determined, and a sign for the onewho has expectation, and a lesson for the one paid attention to it,and a salvation for the one who is sincere, and an affection for theone who correct themselves, and a closeness for the one who camenear it, and trustworthy for the one who relied upon it, and a hope forthose who delegate to it, and a precedent for the one who is good atit, and a good for the one who hurried to it, and a shield for the onewho is patient, and a clothing for the one who fears, and a helper forthe one who want to be guided, and a cave for the one who wantssecurity, and a shelter for the one who submits, and a happiness forthe truthful, and an admonition for the pious, and salvation for thesuccessful ones.

ذلك الحق، سبیله الهدى وصفته الحسنى ومأثرته المجد، أبلج المنهاج، مشرق المنار، ذاكيالمصباح، رفیع الغایة، یسیر المضمار، جامع الحلبة، متنافس السبقة، ألیم النقمة، قدیم النعمة، قدیم

العدة، كریم الفرسان.

That is the truth, its way is the guidance, and its attribute is thegoodness, and its effect is glorious, shiny is the method, bright is theminaret, pure is the lamp, high is the purpose, easy is the track,complete is the arena, strivers compete to get ahead, painful is therevenge, old is the blessing, old is the preparation, generous are theriders.

فالإیمان منهاجه، والصالحات مناره، والفقه مصابیحه، والموت غایته، والدنیا مضماره،والقیامة حلبته، والجنة سبقته، والنار نقمته، والتقوى عدته، والمحسنون فرسانه.

Eman is its approach, and the goodness is its minaret, and theunderstanding is its light, and the death is its aim, and the world is itstrack, and the Day of Judgement is its arena, and the Paradise iswhat the strivers strive for, and the Fire is its revenge, and the pietyis its luggage, and the good doers are its riders.

فبالإیمان یستدل على الصالحات، وبالصالحات یعمر الفقه، وبالفقه یرهب الموت، وبالموتیختم الدنیا، وبالدنیا تجوز القیامة، وبالقیامة تزلف الجنة، والجنة حسرة أهل النار، والنار موعظة

المتقین، والتقوى سنخ الإیمان.

Eman is evidence by the good deeds, and by the good deeds theunderstanding lives long, and by the understanding death becomesterrifying, and by the death the world reaches its end, and by theworld, the Day of Judgement is raised, and by the Day ofJudgement, the Paradise is brought near, and the Paradise is theregret of the inhabitants of the Fire, and the Fire is the admonition ofthe pious, and the piety is branch of the faith.

فذلك الإسلامSo that is Islam’.
