ADIO KERIDA Source: Levy, Chants, Vol. I (Voice of the Turtle)
Tu madre kuando te paryo When your mother bore you and brought you into this world, she gave you no heart to love another.
Goodbye, goodbye my beloved. I do not want life. You have made me embittered.
Go find another love. Knock on other doors. Wait for another’s ardor, for you are dead to me.
Goodbye, goodbye my beloved…

HATIKVA – “The Hope” Israel’s National Anthem - by Naftali Herz Imber
As long as deep in the heart, the soul of a Jew yearns, and forward to the East to Zion, an eye looks – our hope will not be lost – the hope of
2,000 years – to be a free nation in our land – the land of Zion and Jerusalem.

I Have a Little Draydel Words: S. Grossman Music: S. Goldfarb
I have a little draydel -- I made it out of clay And when it's dry and ready -- Then draydel I shall play! Oh draydel, draydel, draydel -- I made it out of clay Oh draydel, draydel, draydel -- Now, draydel I shall play! It has a lovely body with legs so short and thin And when my draydel's tired, it drops and then I win! Oh draydel, draydel, … My draydel's always playful, it loves to dance and spin A happy game of draydel, come play now, let's begin! Oh draydel, draydel, ADDITIONAL VERSES By Dan Crow, Marcia Berman, Uncle Ruthie Buell, J.P. Nighteingale and Fred Sokolow.
The JCP CHANUKAH SONGBOOK
I had a little draydel, I made it out of soap I'll spin it in the bathtub, It will not melt I hope … Oh… I had a little draydel, I made it out of ice It melted when I spun it, which was not very nice… Oh I had a little draydel, I made it out of straw It went eighty miles an hour, & broke the speeding law… Oh I had a little draydel, I made it out of sand And when I tried to spin it, It crumbled in my hand… Oh… I had a little draydel, I made it out of mud And when I tried to spin it, It fell down with a thud… Oh…
I had a little draydel, I made it out of bread I did not spin my draydel, I ate it up instead… Oh… I had a little draydel, I made it out of schmaltz and when I tried to spin it, It danced a little waltz… Oh… I had a little draydel, I made it out of air It spun around so softly, And silent as a prayer… Oh… I had a little draydel, I made it in my mind Imaginary draydel, Is the hardest one to find… Oh… We have a little draydel, It's sitting on the shelf And if you want more verses, Then make them up yourself

NOW CHANUKAH IS HERE by Myron Schreck ©2001
Winter is coming - nights getting longer Now that we’ve entered December The smells of the cooking, the sounds in the kitchen, These are the things we remember The onions and garlic - the warm apple sauce – The draydels that spin ‘til they drop And the bright colored candles -the chocolate coins The presents that everyone brought
And now the sun’s going down and all across town, The children are waiting - anticipating Latkes deep fried by a warm fireside; The stars will come out and bring with them Chanukah
The children of Israel a long time ago – Were told they can’t study the bible Their Temple was ruined – by Syrian Greeks – Replacing their Altar with idols But then they fought back, those brave Maccabees. For years how they suffered and toiled And these days we remember their “Rededication” – With draydels and candles and oil
(chorus: And now the sun’s going down …….)
I have so many childhood mem’ries – Wrapped up with Chanukah season My dad with his presents - my mom with her singing And stories to help me start sleeping The games that we played with draydels and coins - And betting which candle will last And today as I play with my own family I’m reminded of Chanukahs past
And now the sun’s going down and all across town, The children are waiting - anticipating Latkes deep fried by a warm fireside; The sky’s almost dark. Let’s get ready to start
And now that it’s night, let’s turn out the lights, And all gather close to light the menorah Singing our songs and filling our homes with laughter & cheer --- Now Chanukah is here --- Chanukah is here – It’s here

LIGHT ONE CANDLE by Peter Yarrow- ©1983 Silver Dawn Music ASCAP Light one candle for the Maccabee children With thanks that their light didn't die Light one candle for the pain they endured When their right to exist was denied Light one candle for the terrible sacrifice Justice and freedom demand But light one candle for the wisdom to know When the peacemaker's time is at hand
Don't let the light go out! It's lasted for so many years! Don't let the light go out! Let it shine thru our love & our tears
Light one candle for the strength that we need To never become our own foe And light one candle for those who are suffering Pain we learned so long ago Light one candle for all we believe in That anger not tear us apart And light one candle to find us together With peace as the song in our hearts
Don't let the light go out! It's lasted for so many years! Don't let the light go out! Let it shine thru our love & our tears
What is the memory that's valued so highly? That we keep it alive in that flame? What's the commitment to those who have died? That we cry out they've not died in vain? We have come this far always believing That justice would somehow prevail This is the burden, this is the promise This is why we will not fail!
Don't let the light go out! It's lasted for so many years! Don't let the light go out! Let it shine thru our love & our tears
Don't let the light go out! Don't let the light go out! Don't let the light go out!

EIGHT CANDLES by Malvina Reynolds ©1963 Schroder Music Co ASCAP
Eight candles shine for the Maccabees Eight candles shine for the Maccabees Down from the mountains with Liberty’s sword They came like the flame of the Lord
(Chorus) Dance the Horah, light the menorah This is a time of joy. The road to freedom we take today, With the Maccabees leading the way.
8 candles shine for the Maccabees; 8 candles shine for the Maccabees The tyrant was routed with all of his men, And the Temple made holy again. (Chorus: Dance the Horah…)
8 candles shine for the Maccabees; 8 candles shine for the Maccabees Chanukah’s children will never forget The glory that shines for us yet. (Chorus: Dance the Horah…)

THE LATKE SONG by Debbie Friedman
I am so mixed up that I cannot tell you, I’m sitting in this blender turning brown. I’ve made friends with the onions and the flour, And the cook is scouting oil in town.
I sit here wondering what will ’come of me, I can’t be eaten looking as I do. I need someone to take me out and cook me, Or I’ll really end up in a royal stew.
(Chorus) I am a latke, I am a latke, And I am waiting for Chanukah to come. I am a latke, I am a latke, And I am waiting for Chanukah to come.
Every holiday has food so special, I’d like to have that same attention, too. I do not want to spend life in this blender, Wondering what I’m supposed to do.
Matzoh and charoset are for Pesach, Chopped liver and challah for Shabbat. Blintzes on Shavuot are delicious, And gefilte fish no holiday’s without.
(Chorus) I am a latke, I am a latke, And I am waiting for Chanukah to come (repeat)
It’s important that I have an understanding, Of what it is that I’m supposed to do. You see there are so many who are homeless, With no home, no clothes and very little food.
It’s so important that we all remember, That while we have most of the things we need, We must remember those who have so little, We must help them -- we must be the ones to feed.
(Chorus) I am a latke, I am a latke, And I am waiting for Chanukah to come (repeat)
