The Bingham Group is a full-service advertising agency founded by Lisa Bingham in 1990. Building on her years of experience in the Knoxville advertising community, her goal was
to build an agency that was capable of handling every aspect of creative content, from concept to final production, on an in-house basis.
Over the years, The Bingham Group’s body of work has indeed run the gamut of advertising projects, including campaign development, slogans, logos, videos, TV and radio spots,
brochures, posters, websites and more. We also offer a full range of marketing-related services, from account planning and research to public relations and media planning/placement.
We provide our clients top-notch creative services, utilizing state-of-the-art industry tools, resources and software applications in Web design, print and broadcast including the use
of in-house editing equipment, which offers full-range creative control and flexibility.
Most importantly, we have consistently achieved positive, lasting results for our local, regional and national clients. In fact, much of our business is generated from positive

Tennessee Department of Safety and
Homeland Security
The Bingham Group recently won a five-year
contract with the State of Tennessee, Department of
Homeland Security, to create a methamphetamine
awareness campaign to include radio, television and
visual print media. As part of this contract, The
Bingham Group developed a 30-second public
service announcement (PSA) about the dangers and
consequences of making methamphetamine.
Specifically, the PSA deals with newer, stricter laws
regarding making meth around children.
After thoroughly researching the subject matter and
the new methamphetamine laws, the agency began
concept creation and storyboards. The video
focuses on a mother involved in making meth being
sentenced to jail and losing her child as a result of
her actions. The Bingham Group selected talent and
music for the PSA, as well as custom-created
graphics to enhance the PSA’s message. The project
was completed in-house by utilizing the agency’s
own broadcast production facilities. In addition to
creating the video, The Bingham Group is
responsible for media buys and distribution to
media outlets throughout the State. https://www.youtube.com/user/TheBinghamGroup

GOVERNOR’S PUBLIC SAFETY SUBCABINET ANTI-METH COMMUNICATIONS
CAMPAIGN EARNS TELLY AWARDS Prestigious honor awarded to two television commercials communicating the
consequences of violating tougher meth laws
NASHVILLE – An anti-methamphetamine communications campaign created by the Governor’s Public Safety Subcabinet has earned three prestigious national advertising awards. The Telly Awards honor two television commercials included in the campaign, which was part of Gov. Bill Haslam’s first term public safety action plan. “The purpose of the campaign was to communicate the consequences of violating tougher meth laws passed under Governor Haslam’s administration. The new legislation enacted stiffer penalties for manufacturing meth in the presence of children and for purchasing pseudoephedrine for unlawful purposes,” Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons said. Gibbons chairs the subcabinet. “The television ads were very effective and emotionally described the heartbreaking toll that meth manufacturing and use can take on a family.” The three year campaign included outdoor advertising, social media, radio and television commercials, and other forms of non-traditional media. It targeted counties in Tennessee with high rates of children removed from homes due to meth-related cases and counties with the highest number of meth lab seizures. The number of children removed from homes in Tennessee decreased 30.1 percent from 2013 to 2014; the number of meth labs seized in Tennessee fell by 24.7 percent in that same time period. The Bingham Group, an advertising agency based in Knoxville, produced the two television spots, “Methamphetamine Explosion” and “Meth Mom.” The campaign earned two silver and one bronze Telly Awards. The Telly Award is a highly respected honor in the advertising and marketing industry. This year, more than 12,000 entries from all 50 state and numerous countries were submitted. Fewer than ten percent of entries received Silver Telly Awards, which is the highest honor possible, and fewer than 25 percent earned Bronze Telly Awards, the second highest award. The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security’s (www.TN.Gov/safety) mission is to serve, secure, and protect the people of Tennessee.

When ORAU contacted The Bingham Group to
complete their 2011 Annual Report, we suggested
dedicating only two pages for all of the
departments and their descriptions (instead of
the usual page per department). The purpose of
this was to focus the rest of the publication on
telling the story of how the departments reacted
to the crisis caused by the 2011 tsunami in Japan.
With the theme of “connect,” The Bingham
Group helped illustrate the response ORAU has
had throughout the world in times of need. Not
only does ORAU help in dire times, but we also
showed how ORAU connects with medical
centers and trains them on how to be prepared in
extreme emergencies. The story expressed how
ORAU “connects” with consumers on a
new level.

Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) provides scientific, health and national security expertise to federal, state, local and commercial customers. Our work
advances scientific research and education, protects public health and the environment, and strengthens national security. We have reach-back capability to a
consortium of more than 100 academic institutions, and we connect universities with research laboratories to advance science education and discovery.
A 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, ORAU manages the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
ORISE is a DOE institute focusing on scientific initiatives to research health risks from occupational hazards, assess environmental cleanup, respond to radiation
medical emergencies, support national security and emergency preparedness, and educate the next generation of scientists.

The financial information provided in this report has been derived from the audited financial statements of the ORAU Corporation and the DOE contract fund for the year ended Sept. 30, 2011. These auditedfinancial statements are presented in separately bound reports.
Our customer focus enables us to be ready at a moment’s
notice to respond to dynamic conditions, including the
devastating earthquake, tsunami and nuclear power plant crisis
that ravaged Japan in March. ORAU experts supported senior
DOE officials on the ground in Japan and provided 24/7
assistance back home with DOE’s Nuclear Incident Team.
Our physicians and staff advised on hundreds of requests for
information regarding potential health hazards and consulted
with federal officials to plan for the possibility of radiation
emergency medical treatment in Japan.
At the same time, ORAU assisted the CDC in hosting a national
conference focused on public health and radiation emergency
preparedness and disseminated information to the U.S.
public to allay fears of atmospheric exposures. In the months
following the crisis, ORAU experts also responded quickly to
characterize possible contamination of maritime assets off the
coast of Japan that likely traveled through the radioactive plume
emanating from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
These examples and others throughout this report highlight not
only ORAU’s ability to provide this type of quick and effective
response, but further illustrate ORAU’s ability to provide the
expertise, research tools, education and training to those who
need to be ready to respond. These capabilities, coupled with
our reach back to a deep community of university research
The federal government and private sector look to companies
whose capabilities are strategically aligned with their missions
and whose solutions are delivered rapidly and efficiently. They
look for companies with an ability to connect… to provide a
tailored, multidimensional approach with comprehensive skills
to generate an effective result. This is even more critical in times
of uncertain budgets and scarce resources.
Throughout 2011, ORAU has remained strong in the face of our
country’s economic challenges by strategically connecting our
expertise with the needs of our customers and our nation and
by integrating our diverse services to provide seamless support.
As reflected in reviews and assessments from our customers
we achieved outstanding and sustained performance through a
continued focus on performance quality and integrity. We have
an exceptional reputation for producing quality work that supports
customers’ missions and is backed by deep subject matter expertise.
This year, we also made great progress in refining the foundation
that supports our business enterprise. We have strengthened our
infrastructure through enterprise architecture, internal reorganization
and capital investments and have documented and articulated
our core competencies. In addition, we have institutionalized
quality management practices to streamline processes, gain
efficiencies and continually improve our services and deliverables. REVENUE IN MILLIONS

Characterizing Maritime Assets off the Coast of Japan
for Potential Radiation Contamination
In the summer of 2011, ORAU’s environmental assessment team
performed a radiological survey of a ship that was located
off the coast of Japan during the days immediately following
the March 11 disaster. With only a few days to mobilize, the team
surveyed the ship’s high-traffic areas, air filtration systems—
which use fans and filters to clean contaminated air outside
a ship before feeding it into inner rooms — and all non filtered
cargo areas. Most elevated radiation levels were found to be
the result of everyday radiation that is present in the natural
environment. Contamination was found within the filters; however,
this finding indicated that the air filtration systems effectively
trapped the vast majority of contamination.

JULY 11-27With only a few days to mobilize, ORAU’s environmental assessment teamperformed a comprehensive, three-week-long radiological verification survey of a maritime transport ship that had been located off the coast of Japan at thetime of the disaster.

RADIATION EMERGENCY MEDICINE
Advising on Medical Aspects of Radiation Exposure in Japan
Because of Japan’s earthquake and tsunami, the Fukushima
Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant suffered catastrophic damage—
ultimately releasing dangerously high amounts of radioactive
material that led to the evacuation of more than 170,000 Japanese
citizens within a 12-mile radius of the crippled plant. Responding
agencies were concerned about the medical impacts of radiation
exposure, the effect on food and water safety and what actions
individuals could take to protect themselves. To provide advice
and consultation, the physicians and health physicists at REAC/TS
were on call 24/7 and responded to more than 200 inquiries in
the days and weeks that followed.

MARCH 21-24ORAU’s health communication team partnered with the CDC to host “Bridging theGaps: Public Health and Radiation Emergency Preparedness,” a national conferencewith forums for discussing the current state of radiation emergency preparedness, including gaps and barriers, at the local, state and federal levels.

Answering Concerns about U.S. Radiation Emergency Preparedness
and Public Health Response
Upon learning of the unstable condition of several Japanese reactors
following the earthquake and tsunami, some U.S. citizens became
concerned about whether radiation being released from the damaged
Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant would disperse across the
Pacific Ocean. As the CDC prepared to assist in the U.S. response
effort, ORAU provided the agency with onsite, staff support at its
Joint Information Center, which operated 24/7 during the event and
distributed radiation emergency information to the public. ORAU
also had a lead role in the development and execution of the CDC’s
first-ever “Bridging the Gaps: Public Health and Radiation Emergency
Preparedness” conference, which was held just 10 days after the
earthquake and served as a forum for discussing the current state of
radiation emergency preparedness in the U.S. and the unfolding
crisis in Japan. During the national conference, two White House
national security senior officials personally thanked ORAU for its
work in making the conference happen despite the challenges this
international disaster posed for responding U.S. agencies.

The Bingham Group has produced Ripley’s
Aquarium of the Smokies and Ripley’s Aquarium of

We conceptualized and implemented the creation

action footage with the animated footage. This
project was accomplished completely in-house by
utilizing The Bingham Group’s broadcast

their small size and hand-crafted quality was

O.P. Jenkins Furniture Store
O.P. Jenkins Furniture Store is a high-end furniture
and home accessories store in downtown
Knoxville, Tennessee. After more than 100 years in
operation, the furniture store had no position in
the market and had little brand equity. The
Bingham Group set to work improving the brand
of O.P. Jenkins. After creating direct mail media,
newspaper ads, e-blasts and eventually television
spots and a website, O.P. Jenkins saw their client
base grow 10 times above their initial numbers.

Astec IncorporatedAnnual Report
Astec is a $480 million industrial manufacturing
company, headquartered in Chattanooga, with
clients around the world.
“The Future is Riding on Astec” was the theme for
the annual report. We defined the company’s
vision: to grow and prosper by designing,
manufacturing and selling the most innovative,
productive and reliable equipment for the building
and restoration of the world’s infrastructure. In the
CEO’s letter to the shareholders, we covered the
basic financial status, followed by a summary of the
company’s strategic acquisitions, product
innovations, the strategic mix of products and
finally a look ahead. We emphasized that there
were 17 companies and 168 core product lines but
only one vision. This single vision pulled all Astec
companies together and poised Astec for success
in the future.

ClaytonAnnual Report
Clayton Homes is a nationally recognized leader in
the manufactured home industry and the only
billion dollar company in East Tennessee. The
company has retail centers in 22 states and
manufactured housing communities in 12 states.
The theme for 1999 was “Realizing the American
Dream.” Clayton delivered more than top-quality
housing. The company also created the
opportunity for people to afford the American
Dream. Clayton wanted to share the American
Dream with shareholders and team members.
In the letter to shareholders, Clayton announced
record revenues of over $1 billion. It was crucial to
highlight Clayton’s commitment to the future by
emphasizing their well-planned and thoughtfully
executed long-term strategic plan.

Bush Brothers, a privately owned company, is a
national manufacturer of packaged foods.
The 90th Anniversary Corporate Report began with
a history of the company with headlines such as:
“Our Grandfather Canned Tomatoes” and “Our
Father Canned Green Beans.” The message was
one of growth through the years, including the
development of the company’s formal strategic plan
and national expansion of the baked bean business.
The company suffered disappointments when sales
of Chili Magic did not meet expectations and when
the Muskogee, Oklahoma, plant had to close due to
wastewater disposal issues. The letter from the CEO
stated that the work of two previous generations
provided a solid future for all stakeholders in the
Bush Brothers company.

BankFirst was an $813 million financial institution
that served the East Tennessee Region until being
bought out by BB&T in 2000. The Bingham Group
directed and developed BankFirst’s annual report
for the 5 years prior to its being sold.
In 1998, several significant events occurred,
including the purchase of Curtis Mortgage
Company, giving customers a broader range of
mortgage financing options. Also, a five-for-one-
stock split transpired, followed by the company’s
initial public offering. It was a year of tremendous
growth for BankFirst.
In addition to the annual reports, The Bingham
Group provided complete full-service advertising
and public relations services for the bank, including
television, radio, print, outdoor, point-of-sale and
the website.

us when they changed their name and merged

media image campaign and special events, we were
able to successfully combat anti-merger sentiments

cornerstone of the local community.
We managed the Grand Opening Event for Valley
Bank’s new main office, introducing the “key” to a
new era of banking. The key, a cork pull, was

Valley BankValley Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of
Sweetwater Valley Corp., was operating banks in
Monroe and McMinn counties and had average
assets of over $160 million. The Bingham Group
produced several annual reports for Valley Bank,
including the 1994 report that celebrated 110 years
of banking. The book was divided into decades,
showing the role Valley Bank played in the growth
of the area’s economy.
In the letter to the stockholders, the message of
110 years of stability continued. The year 1994
posted better than average earnings, and this top
performance led to a special cash dividend for
shareholders. While presenting the strong financial
picture, it was important that we continue to
emphasize the company’s commitment to excellent
customer service and loyalty to the area.

unifying and enhancing the image of transit for the
state. We were asked specifically to improve the
image of small, rural agencies such as the East
Tennessee Human Resource Agency and Jackson

TDOT Regional Transit Authority
The Bingham Group is proud to have taken part in
the promotion of the first commuter rail in the
state of Tennessee. Our goal was to create eye-
catching, professional promotional materials that
would educate people of the new transportation
opportunity, encourage people to come aboard
and inform them of the guidelines for commuter
train travel. We worked closely with RTA to
conceptualize and develop a comprehensive
website and 2006 Ride Guide, complete with
description of routes, rules and regulations for
riders. Work included: website design and
maintenance, collateral design and production
and copy creation and development.
In phase one of the project, The Bingham Group
successfully set up the appropriate number of
pages on the Music City Star website to address
all the service’s relevant customer-interaction
categories. In phase two, a content-management
system was implemented that allowed system
administrators to edit the content without
html input.
