Welcome November 2013 A Year in Review Serving as president this year gave me a front row seat to all the wonderful things that Tri Delta has done. Last semester, we had fun per- forming in All-University Sing with our act Check Mate! We also enjoyed hosting our annual Mother- Daughter Luncheon where current Tri Deltas read letters of thanks to their mothers. We also hon- ored our fathers at the Baylor Ballpark where we cheered the Bears to another victory. We finished the semester strong by winning Pi Kappa Phi’s War of the Roses and both the intramural softball and racquetball championships, putting us in third place for intramurals. And once again both last fall and last spring, Tri Delta maintained the highest grade point average among Panhellenic sororities. This fall has been off to a great start! Our calendars have been jam packed with all sorts of activities. Our Mixer for America with Kappa Sigma, FOAM HOME crush, bowling mixer with Kappa Omega Tau, and building our float, which was themed, “Sailing to Victory” have made for some fun and memorable experiences! Last month we had a Roaring 20’s themed semi-formal and earlier this month held our annual philanthropy event, Spaghetti Not So Formal, with the men of Alpha Tau Omega. We look forward two stepping the night away at Country Christmas in December. One of my favorite memories has been spending fall break visiting St. Jude in Memphis with 50 of my Tri Delta sisters. This was a special time for our chapter to see and hear stories of the wonderful ways that our national philanthropy has impacted the lives of their patients and families. As you can tell, it has been a busy semester, but we are so thankful for everything that we are able to be a part of and for all of the precious mo- ments spent together. Thank you for your con- tinual support and love for Beta Tau. - Avery Whitmore As the daughter of Beta Tau alumna Cynthia Schmeltekopf Krause who pledged in 1977, I have truly enjoyed championing events that I grew up attending and being inspired by. On behalf of recruitment team, a huge thank you to the alumnae who have submitted references for potential new members (PNMs). The recruitment process is in full swing, and the chapter has enjoyed meeting PNMs at weekly SUB dinners. Tri Delta’s focus continues on building relationships and devel-oping friendships that go beyond recruitment. We look forward to welcoming the newest group of Tri Deltas on January 11, 2014. We continue to accept references (accom-panied by a resume, transcript, and/or picture if possible) submitted via email to [email protected] or by snail mail at:

We’ve had several open meetings over the last two semesters. We’ve had a Tri Delta family bonding night, and a meeting learning more about St. Jude. In addition, we brought in Baylor’s own improv troop to perform, and we even set a few “world records” as a chapter (refer to recordsetter.com)! We held a Worship Night in the chapter room last spring as a Delta’s only event and will hopefully hold another this fall. Our annual Sister-hood Retreat was held at the beginning of this semester at a newly established water sports facility in Waco, BSR Cable Park. Tri Deltas enjoyed the day wakeboarding, floating the Lazy River, crafting for St. Jude, relaxing on the beach and playing sand volleyball, all the while bonding with one another in a genuine and authentic way. October is when Tri Delta’s Fat Talk Free initiative kicks off and we will spend time addressing body image is-sues on a deeper level, as well as emphasizing the truly beautiful image in which we are all created!

This year, the chapter has grown through participation in Baylor’s events, specifi-cally those relating to family. Through the Mother-Daughter Luncheon, Dad’s Day, and Family Weekend, women have shared their lives while “off at college” with their families. At Dad’s Day, the chapter enjoyed tailgating and watching Baylor baseball with their fathers. At the Mother-Daughter Luncheon, women and their moms enjoyed a catered meal and outstanding speaker, Rosaline Kennerson-Baty of Baylor’s Communication Department. At the Family Weekend Tailgate, Tri Deltas and their siblings and parents ate barbecue and visited with each other. But details of the events don’t describe the importance of what happened when Deltas and their dads spent precious time together at Dad’s Day or the tears in a mother’s eyes at the Mother-Daughter Luncheon when her daughter read and presented a hand-written letter of gratitude. At the Family Weekend Tailgate, Tri Deltas introduced their families to each other and in so doing introduced their own families to their lives at Baylor. Through such events, the members have grown closer to their families, sharing with them the importance of love, appreciation and the true meaning of Delta Delta Delta.

Beta Tau also had a busy and successful year supporting our national philanthropy, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. By supporting St. Jude, our chapter shows our belief in their mission of giv-ing kids more birthdays. We held two philanthropy events in the

spring. Our letter writing campaign, Sin-cerely Yours, was held during St. Jude

month in March and raised over $70,000. We also created a NEW spring event, Delta Duck Races. 1,440 plastic, numbered ducks floated down the Brazos at the Baylor Marina and the tick-et holder matching the number of the winning duck won a prize, with the grand prize being an iPad. Our chapter looks forward to entertaining our campus with this event for years to come. Delta Duck Races earned over $7,000. With the money from the fall semester of 2012 and the spring of 2013, Beta Tau raised a total of $81,159.76 during this last school year! Our chapter ranked 13th out of over 130 Tri Delta chapters that support St. Jude. Our chapter also raised more money than any other Baylor student organization last school year. 52 Beta Tau mem-bers recently returned from visiting St. Jude in

Memphis over fall break. The members toured the hospital and participated in some sisterhood activi-ties involving St. Jude before enjoying an afternoon of sightseeing and a great BBQ dinner. This was the first trip to St. Jude from our chapter. Beta Tau is also held the 4th annual Spa-ghetti Not So Formal with the men of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. This spaghetti dinner, with all proceeds benefitting St. Jude, is a campus favorite.

Tri Deltas shared stories of St. Jude pa-tients, and we raised even more money than we did last year. In addition to our events this fall, members also made 110 col-

oring books for the patients at St. Jude to enjoy in waiting rooms and participated in the annual Chili’s restaurant profit night benefitting St. Jude.

Intramurals Tri Delta and Intramurals…what’s better than combining these two things?! Throughout the Spring of ’13, the chapter as a whole maintained our outstanding position as one of the top three teams in the rankings. As the semester came to a start, our power hitting racquetball players kicked off the intramural season with a bang. Followed by the fall of ’13, Tri Delta killed it on the dodge ball courts while sporting some crazy costumes to earn a few extra points. Then, our indoor volleyball B team fought their way through five different games and

made it to the playoffs. We have since participated in ultimate Frisbee and co-rec kickball and are currently making our way through flag-football. With already have making it to many championship games, Tri Delta has established itself as an incredible chapter that consists of talented athletes that are going to make it a fantastic year!

This fall I had the privilege of playing the role of Elle Woods in Baylor University Theatre’s production of Legally Blonde. This part was a dream come true for me; I have wanted to play this role since I was little. In a show with such a re-lation to Greek life, it was an honor to represent Tri Delta along with two other sisters who co-starred with me, Brittney Wooley and Samantha Wendling.. Many audience members would ask me if I myself was in a sorority and every time I was proud to tell them that I was a member of Delta Delta Delta. I think that I speak for myself and the other sisters in the show when I say that our background in this organization played a large part in preparing us for our roles through our leadership experi-ences and character develop-ment! It was also incredible to see how many of my Tri Delta sisters came to support me as well as our philanthropy bring featured. This is an incred-ible oportunity that I will cherish forever.

An Advisor’s Note

Becoming Elle

Baylor Proud This past year, Tri Delta was able to par-ticipate in two very important Baylor events: the rededication of the columns at Independence and the dedication ceremony of the East Village, Our very own, Jade Norwood was given the opportunity to speak on behalf of the staff at East Village, where she serves as a Community Leader (CL). Several Tri Deltas were also on site for the rededication ceremony of the pillars in Independence, Texas. These pillars not only serve as a symbol of our university, but also serve as a reminder to past and present

Baylor students of Baylor’s deep history. What wonderful ways Tri Delta was able represent our chapter at such important events to Baylor.

On April 17, 2013, our family’s world rocked with the explosion of the fertilizer plant in West. Within an instant, our daughter and son-in-law lost their home and most of their worldly possessions. Within a few more instants, we felt the strength of Tri Delta sisterhood from across chapters, miles, and years. Although she chose a college without a

Delta Delta Delta chapter, Holly grew up with DDD babysitters, Christmas card photos on floats, and sandwiches always cut in Delta’s. Today she can add to the list an adopted ∆∆∆ family that prayed for her, supported her, and showered her with gift cards and encouragement. As Holly and I stood in chapter meeting to

accept affirmation and assistance and to express our deep appreciation, tears came. More than six months later, my eyes still moisten when I read the note-filled poster titled “∆∆∆ Is Praying for You!” that remains attached to my filing cabinet with triangle-shaped magnets. This year in the simple moments of life and

in the not-so-everyday ones, we’ve experienced Tri Delta sisterhood at its finest and observed it at its best. From late-night texts and rehearsals to early morning coffee and meetings…from celebrat-ing graduations, engagements and weddings to rejoicing over births and long-awaited adoptions…from supporting sisters in their fights against cancer to mourning the passing of grandparents, parents, husbands, and those who also chose the Stars and Crescent…DDD friendship lasts. Indeed, God has blessed our sisterhood and

blessed us through our sisters. “And now abidith faith hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
