“We are making utmost ef-forts to prevent further explo-sions and radiation leaks,” pa-hayag pa ni Kan.
“We are on the brink. Weare now facing the worst-casescenario,” ani Hiroaki Koide, isang senior reactor engineeringspecialist sa Research ReactorInstitute ng Kyoto University.
“We can assume that thecontainment vessel at ReactorNo. 2 is already breached. Ifthere is heavy melting insidethe reactor, large amounts ofradiation will most definitely bereleased,” dinagdag ni Koide.

Maria’s cover of Lady Gaga’snewest single Born This Way hasgotten over 11 million views onYouTube—and the video has on-ly been up for a week. ButYouTube hits aren’t the onlything Maria Aragon has beengetting these days. She’s flownto the US to appear on The EllenDeGeneres Show (where she per-formed Born This Way) andGood Morning America. Maria al-so guested on radio shows inCanada, and, by the time youread this, she would have per-formed with Lady Gaga in herToronto concert last Thursday.
The future isbright for thisyoungsinger,
who has been posting videos ofherself on YouTube for over twoyears now.
And while we wait to seewhat happens next, here are fiveother Maria Aragon videos youshould watch:

Before Born This Way, it wasMaria’s cover of Jessie J’s PriceTag that was getting the hits. Now up to over half a million, and with over 11,000 likes, thisvideo shows Maria in her ele-ment, just having a blast playingher keyboard and singing.
2. Michael Jackson medleyThe video shows Maria per-
forming Michael
Jackson’s This Is It and The WayYou Make MeFeel at hercousin’swedding re-ception lastyear. She

3. Telephone cover by MariaAragon
Yes, Charice Pempengco andLea Michele sang this LadyGaga/Beyonce song on Glee. But
in this video posted ninemonths ago, Maria
sings the entiresong alone,
showing
flair not just for singing but forrapping, too. No wonder peoplehave started calling her BabyGaga.
4. Part of Your World fromThe Little Mermaid
In this video which she post-ed one month ago, Maria talksabout how she only watchedThe Little Mermaid recently andhow she fell in love with thesong Part of Your World. Afterhearing her sing love song afterlove song, it’s refreshing to hearMaria sing a song that wasmeant for kids. She is a kid, af-ter all—a kid with an incrediblevoice.
5. Maria Aragon talks to La-dy Gaga
The video shows Maria atHot 103, a radio station in Win-nipeg, talking to Lady Gaga onthe phone while on the air. In aconversation that movesMaria to tears, Lady Gagatells her how her BornThis Way cover cheered

Major, major beauties
in the Miss Universe contestraised such an interest in theBinibining Pilipinas pageant thatit even attracted former contes-tants in rival beauty contests.
Among this year’s aspirantsare resigned Mutya ng Pilipinaswinner Zephorah Mayon, run-ners-up Arabellah Hanesh,Suzette Hernandez and PaulaFigueras and semifinalists Car-olyn Ty and Jenn Roe Gubat.
Miss Philippines-Earth alum-nae Patricia Tumulak, KrystleAnn Grant and Monique Manuelhave also joined the fray.
Cluster of returneesThat the Binibining Pilipinas
crown is apparently highly cov-eted is evidenced by the partici-pation again of last year’s run-ner-up, Diane Necio. The 18-year-old Bicolano gave up herrunner-up spot, along with herprizes, so she could join again.
Former runners-up waitedone to two more years beforeenlisting anew.
Necio is joined by returneesDiana Arevalo and Maria BiancaPaz, who both participated inthe pageant’s 2009 edition.
Campus beauty queens Kristi-na Marasigan, Janine Tugononand Sabrinne Al-Tawil, and for-mer Deal or No Deal briefcase la-dy Chloe McCully have also laidclaim to the prestigious title.Challenge from newbies
But these more experiencedwomen face tough competitionfrom newbies, who include Uni-versity of the Philippines magna
cum laude graduate ShamceySupsup (who also topped the ar-chitecture licensure examination)and statuesque Jet Noguchi, whostudied in the United States.
Other competitors, IsabellaMajon and Luzelle Felipe, pos-sess impeccable faces, whileMary Jean Lastimosa has an en-viable figure and arguably thebest body in the competition.
Binibining Pilipinas selects
the country’s representatives tothe Miss Universe and Miss In-ternational pageants.
The more notable productsof Binibining Pilipinas are MissUniverse winners Gloria Diazand Margie Moran, Miss Inter-national titleholders Aurora Pi-juan, Melanie Marquez and Pre-cious Lara Quigaman, and MissUniverse runners-up MiriamQuiambao and Raj.
The winners will be pro-claimed on April 10 at the Arane-ta Coliseum in Quezon City.

A RE there many more Venus Rajs out there? Or-ganizers of the Binibining Pilipinas beautypageant believe so.
If in recent years only 24 can-didates were selected by pageantorganizers, 40 candidates werepresented last March 8 to mem-bers of the media at the SofitelPhilippine Plaza in Pasay City.
Jose “Pitoy” Moreno, cochairof the Binibining Pilipinas Chari-ties Inc. (BPCI), said the organiz-ers increased the number of par-ticipants this year “to give chance
to more deserving applicants.”Gines Enriguez, spokesper-
son of BPCI’s parent companyAraneta Group, said: “Therewas an influx of beautiful appli-cants this year, perhaps becauseof Venus’ exceptional perfor-mance in the Miss Universe.”
Enriquez added: “There werea lot of deserving applicantswho should be given a shot atthe title.”
A challengeRaj made a splash in August
last year when she finished fifthin the 2010 Miss Universepageant, bringing her not onlyinstant fame but also glory tothe Philippines.
Her victory had apparentlyposed a challenge to other Fil-ipino women to duplicate, if notsurpass, her “major-major” ac-complishment.
Earlier editions of the Philip-pine pageant, particularly thosebefore the mid-1990s, had 40candidates as well. Then camethe tradition to select only 24candidates, with the exception of2007, when the competition drewa number of formidable aspirants.
Enriquez said BPCI founderand chair Stella Marquez deAraneta considered reverting tothe 40-candidate format whenthe pageant moved to ABS-CBNfrom the rival GMA Networkthis year.
Good for TV, tooThe move to select 40 candi-
dates was justified by the bevyof competitive aspirants whofiled their applications, En-riquez said.
The deadline for applicationwas even extended twice be-cause of the high quality ofwomen declaring their intentionto participate in the annualbeauty pageant.
Seeing the strong crop of ap-plicants, the BPCI pushedthrough with its plan to increasethe number of candidates.
“Having more ladies couldalso contribute to a more enter-taining [television] production,”Enriquez said.

Tsunami alert: Whatwould celebs do?
It’s a wake-up call for all ofus. MJ’s song, Heal The World, sums it all up.
But what would celebritiesdo if they had only a few min-utes before a tsunami hit them?I would hug my kids tightly andwe’d pray together. I’d keeptelling them I love them untilmy last breath.
May the tragedy in Japan re-mind us that we should make itsecond nature to care for Moth-er Nature every single day of
our lives. Let’s take comfort inthe thought that God is in con-trol and He is more powerfulthan all the tsunamis combined.
