Our testing expertise enables us to adapt our tests to meet the product

type and their associated properties. Sample types include:

    • Crude oil & condensate

    • LPG

    • Gasoline/petrol (NZ Engine Fuels Specifi cation Regulation 2011)

    • Diesel (NZ Engine Fuels Specifi cation Regulation 2011)

    • Jet fuel (AFQRJOS & JIG)

    • Marine and residual fuel oils (ISO 8217)

    • Fuel oils (ISO 8217)

    • Bitumen (Transit NZ)

We analyse to industry recognised standards which vary depending on the sample types.

For our international customers, we can also meet test standards where specifi cations are provided.

    Hydrocarbon analysis can assist with:

    • Product quality assurance

    • Problem solving

    • Processing/blending

    • Research and Development

    > Microbial Contamination “Diesel Bug” testing can provide data to assist in preventing bug migration, ensuring tank hygiene and avoiding problems in running machinery.

03 we carry out an extens ive range of tests . see our webs ite for the full

    BIOFUELS

AS NEW GENERATIONS OF BIOFUELS AREDEVELOPED, IT IS IMPORTANT TO CHOOSE A TESTING LABORATORY THAT HAS THE NECESSARY EXPERTISE AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE METHODS REQUIRED TO MEET INDUSTRY STANDARDS.

IPL is committed to helping advance New Zealand’s biofuel technology. We offer

biofuel producers and importers an accredited and cost effective testing solution

to meet the New Zealand Engine Fuel Specifi cation Regulations 2011.

    Biodiesel

As the country’s leading biodiesel tester, we provide a comprehensive range of

tests for B100 and subsequent biodiesel blends.

    Examples of analysis:

    • Ester content in Biodiesel (EN14103)

    • Glyceride (D6584)

    • Accelerated Oxidation Stability – Rancimat (EN14112)

    • Cold Flow properties

    Bioethanol

A vast range of bioethanol analysis such as E100 ethanol and subsequent petrol

    blends is also carried out.

    Examples of analysis:

    • Ethanol Content of Denatured Fuel Ethanol (D5501)

    • Copper Strip (D130)

    • Sulphates and Chlorides (D7328 mod)

    MERCURY

IPL has the capability to analyse down to ultra trace levels in

hydrocarbon or aqueous samples. We can inform our customers in

    which form the mercury occurs.

IPL is also equipped to analyse mercury in higher concentrations in

    liquid matrices using ICP technology.

    • We can analyse mercury in hydrocarbon and aqueous samples

to a Limit Of Quantifi cation (LOQ) of 0.025ppbw (parts per

    billion weight)

    • We can speciate the form in which the mercury exists

    • We are a local centre of expertise for mercury analysis

    • We can tailor our analysis to your requirements

    • We offer a turn-around time of 24 hours from sample receipt

IPL HAS DEVELOPED EXPERTISE ANDMETHODOLOGY TO IDENTIFY ANDQUANTIFY THE PRESENCE OF MERCURYTO ULTRA LOW LEVELS (PARTS PERTRILLION – PPT) IN GAS, LIQUID ANDSOLID HYDROCARBONS.

Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) is a powerful

problem solving tool for identifi cation of unknown compounds.

It is capable of both qualitative and quantitative analysis to

    ppb concentration.

The combination of GC-FID and DHA/SIMDIS can be used to

characterise hydrocarbons from C1-C120. The Reformulyzer

GC quantitatively determines saturates, olefi ns, aromatics and

oxygenates for fuels used in spark-ignition engines.

Through our ICP-OES, we can determine metal concentrations to

ppm (parts per million) levels in liquid hydrocarbon, biofuel and

    aqueous matrices.

FTIR can be used qualitatively to elucidate

functional groups present in a sample in a given

range (400-4000nm). We can also use FTIR to

quantify the percent volume of fatty acid methyl

esters (FAME) in diesel and biodiesel blends.

    CONTAMINATION & PURITY ANALYSIS

WE USE A WIDE RANGE OF TECHNIQUES TO IDENTIFY ANDQUANTIFY UNKNOWNS IN LIQUID AND SOLID HYDROCARBONMATRICES.

WE USE A WIDE RANGE OF TECHNIQUES TO IDENTIFY ANDQUANTIFY UNKNOWNS IN LIQUID AND SOLID HYDROCARBONMATRICES.

    Environmental AnalysisWe provide analysis on:

    • Process and production water

    • Boiler water

    • Discharge water for regulatory consent monitoring

    • Sludges

Environmental testing is often required for consent monitoring,

identifi cation of trends, problem solving, substance disposal and

discharge consent. IPL continues to develop and expand its range of

environmental testing to meet the evolving needs of this industry.

TPH testing on water is carried out to ppm levels to determine the

total petroleum hydrocarbons present in a sample and characterise

its volatility. TPH testing in soil, PAH in water and BTEX (water and

soil) are being developed to help assess the contamination risks and

    provide our remediation analysis expertise.

Chemical AnalysisFire fi ghting foams is an area of analytical testing which is carried

out to the latest BS:EN1568-3:2008 standards.

    Foam testing:

    • AR • ATC RF

    • AFFF • FP

    • AR FFFP • RF

    Other chemical testing:

    • Formic acid

    • Methylated spirits

    • Glycerin

    • Iso pentane

    • Monopropylene glycol (MPG)

    • Linear alkyl benzene (LAB)

    • Sulphonic acid

    > Foams should be tested on an annual basis or routinely monitored if under harsh conditions eg. oil terminal, port, offshore platform or ship.
