The Central - Wan Chai Bypass and Island Eastern Corridor Link (“CWB”) will soon be commissioned. It will strengthen the transportation network of the northern shore of the Hong Kong Island and uplift the quality of living environment, bringing a refreshing outlook to the northern shore of Hong Kong Island. In this issue, we will present to you the benefits of the CWB.

The Central - Wan Chai Bypass and Island Eastern Corridor Link (“CWB”) will soon be commissioned. It will strengthen the transportation network of the northern shore of the Hong Kong Island and uplift the quality of living environment, bringing a refreshing outlook to the northern shore of Hong Kong Island. In this issue, we will present to you the benefits of the CWB.

Enhance Transport NetworkUpon commissioning, CWB reduces the traffic time between Central and Island Eastern Corridor (IEC) to around 5 minutes, making the linkage between the east of Hong Kong Island and other districts in the western side of the island more smooth and direct.

綠色元素，美化市區 Beautify urban environment with greening elements繞道將豎設具綠化元素的隧道建築物，並於北角隧道出入口上蓋建造

園景平台。繞道沿途亦會廣植林木，以提供合共約4.5公頃的綠化地帶美化

市區。

Tunnel buildings with greening elements will be erected. The roof of the North Point Tunnel Portal will be developed into a landscaped deck. Besides, large number of vegetation will be planted along CWB providing a total of 4.5 hectares greening area to beautify the urban environment.

紓緩交通噪音滋擾 Mitigate traffic noise nuisance繞道於東廊近北角路段豎設隔音屏障及半密閉式隔音罩，

可減低附近居民所承受的交通噪音平均約16分貝，而最高

達25.6分貝。

Noise barriers and noise semi-enclosures will be erected at North Point section of IEC. Traffic noise experienced by the nearby households could be effectively reduced by around 16 dB on average and 25.6 dB at maximum.

城巿綠化及可持續發展是繞道的重要亮點Urban greening and sustainable development are significant highlights of the CWB

使港島東西各區往來的交通變得更直接暢順。

80% of the road section of the CWB is constructed in tunnel form, thereby reserving the at-grade open space for other form of development. Additional land was also formed which allowed the future development of a waterfront promenade.

Diverts existing at-grade traffic to underground to improve the air quality of surrounding areas. In addition, by shortening the total travelling time, the annual emission of carbon dixoide (CO2) could be reduced by around 11 000 tonnes, equivalent to that absorbed by 480 000 new trees (covering an area of over 67 numbers of Victoria Park).

讚賞繞道隧道引入

了空氣淨化系統。

他說，車輛排放是

一個主要的空氣污染來源，包含可吸入懸浮粒子

及二氧化氮，對香港的公共健康構成短期和

長期的威脅。與過去的做法不同，路政署積極

利 用 繞 道 的 封 閉 隧 道 環 境 提 供 的 機 會 ，

在繞道隧道內使用空氣淨化系統，有效清除

有害污染物，減少排放至空氣中的污染物數量。

繞道的空氣淨化系統設有全年運行的大型空氣

淨化設施，總空氣流量為每秒1 5 0 0 立方米，

是馬德里M30隧道空氣流量的數倍。該系統旨在

消除隧道內80%的可吸入懸浮粒子及二氧化氮，

大幅緩減對香港公眾健康造成的影響，對隧道

排放一帶的社區尤其顯著。

從環境的角度來看，政府決定在新大型基建項目

設計中採用大膽創新的措施和技術，以減少空氣

污染物排放量，值得鼓舞。繞道在行車隧道引入

空氣淨化系統是香港首例，屬迄今世界上同類

系統規模最大的，所獲得的經驗對全球其他高密

度城市具有指導意義。

Professor Alexis Lau, Associate Director, Institute for the Environment, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology highly appreciated the application of APS in the CWB tunnel. He said that vehicle emission is one of the major air pollution sources for both respirable suspended particulates and NO2 posing short-term and long-term threats to public health in Hong Kong. Different from many cases in the past, the use of the APS in the CWB tunnel by the Highways Department is a proactive approach to take advantage of the opportunity offered in an enclosed road tunnel environment of the CWB to actively remove hazardous pollutants and to lower their emission into the atmosphere. The CWB APS is designed with massive air purification infrastructure running all year round at a total air flow rate of 1 500 cubic meters per second, many times more than the flow rate used in the M30 tunnel in Madrid. The system is designed to reduce the emission of respirable suspended particulates and NO2 from the tunnel by 80%, corresponding to large reduction in health impacts for Hong Kong as a whole, and particularly significant for neighbouring communities close to the tunnel exhaust areas.

From an environmental point of view, it was encouraging to see the Government’s decision to introduce bold new measures and technologies to try to reduce the total air emissions into the atmosphere as part of the design of new large-scale infrastructure projects. While the application of APS at CWB was the first of its kind in Hong Kong, and its scale was the largest to-date in the world, the experience gained would be instructive for other high-density cities around the world.

繞道隧道引入了首次應用於香港行車隧道的空氣

淨化系統，汽車排放經系統處理後，最少80%的

可吸入懸浮粒子及二氧化氮能被有效消除，達致

淨化空氣的效果。

CWB introduced the first Air Purification System (APS) in road tunnels in Hong Kong. At least 80% of the respirable suspended particulates and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in the vehicle exhaust, after treatment, will be effectively removed, resulting in purification of air.

CWB roving exhibition has been launched since August 2018 to enhance public understanding of the CWB project. The exhibition introduces the benefits, construction methods, engineering challenges and characteristics of the CWB project through display panels and videos.

The exhibition was successfully held at Queensway Government Offices High Block (Deck Floor), Revenue Tower (Ground Floor) in Wan Chai, North Point Government Offices (Ground Floor), Kornhill Plaza (Ground Floor) in Quarry Bay, Fitfort (Lower Ground Floor) in North Point, Central MTR Station, CWB’s Central Community Liaison Centre and One International Finance Centre (Main Concourse) and received positive feedback from the public.

展覽已於金鐘道政府合署高座大堂、灣仔稅務大樓

健威坊低層地下、中環港鐵站、繞道中環社區聯絡中心

及國際金融中心一期大堂圓滿舉行，並收集到市民正面

的意見。
