P&C Meeting 7pm
Dear Parents and Carers,
I’d like to start by saying thank you to Susan Archer and Julie Bruce for their organisation of the
Grandparents Day held on Monday, 5th August during Education Week. Thank you to all staff and helpers
who made the day very special for all the wonderful grandparents who visited us on the day. We had
grandparents from all over the world come visit their grandchildren at school and it was so enjoyable
visiting classrooms and seeing the high engagement level between students and their grandparents.
Performance
A reminder that our school performance is on Tuesday, 10th September and will be held at our partner
high school Woy Woy Campus. With the matinee and evening performance, we can now cater for over
1000 tickets while previously in three performances we could only cater for 600. This means we can
offer over 400 more tickets to our families! As this is the first year in moving it to the high school, we
understand it will mean some changes to organisation and we will appreciate your support and
flexibility in how this will run.
Canberra
Our Year 5 and 6 students are currently in Canberra this week. All reports from the teachers is that are
having a great time. Today was a snow visit and the weather was very chilly! I headed down for the day
on Wednesday and was very impressed by their behaviour at the War Memorial and Parliament House.
Yarning Circle
Our Yarning Circle has been completed and the garden surrounding it looks fantastic. We are now
awaiting signage for our garden as well as a plaque to recognize our school patron, Mr. Geoff Melville.
Thank you P&C for all your hard work. Teachers and students are now able to use this area but we ask
that children stay out of this space outside of class time at this stage to keep it special for Yarning time.
Central Coast Appreciation Awards
Congratulations to our P&C who have been nominated for an Award at the Central Coast Appreciation
Awards for 2019. We appreciate the work the P&C does for all the students of our school and we are
very excited about their nomination. You are an integral part of our school and is a pleasure to work
with you all.
Assistant Principal Advertisement
We are currently in the process of advertising for an Assistant Principal to replace the wonderful Mrs
Leslie. Our panel will meet several times throughout the process and is represented by the school,
parents, local community and AECG. We hope that the successful applicant will be able to start at
Empire Bay PS beginning Term 4.

Thank you to all those families that helped to make our Book Fair a huge success. The library will receive approx. $2000 in
book stock as commission. A big thank you to Nancy Sparks, our interns and the Year 5 library monitors for helping with the

Our library has had a huge makeover in the last year and Krystine Brisbin has been working tirelessly on completing the
signage for our walls in an informative a funky way. If you haven’t had a chance to view our new surrounds pop in and have
a look when you are next at school you will be amazed!
Book Week Book Parade and Author Visit
As part of our Book Week activities, we are having a book character parade on Tuesday 27th August, 9.10am-10am in the

them thinking! Parents welcome.
In addition to our Book Parade we are hosting an Author Visit with Frances Watts. Frances is a very talented Australian
children's author extraordinaire. Having written a number of beautiful picture books and novels such as the Gerander Trilogy
and The Sword Girl Series. The cost of the visit is $2.50 per student and the sessions will be 60 minutes.
Happy reading

New School Banking rewards now available!
Exciting new Term 3 Polar Savers rewards are now available, while stocks last

Once students have individually collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for exclusive School Banking reward items in recognition of their regular savings habits. There are two new items released each term so be sure to keep an eye out for them!
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.
