FROM FR. JOHN’S DESK
The feast of the Baptism of our Lord presents us with the Third Epiphany or the manifestation of our Lord, the first being the Nativity of our Lord and the second, the feast of the Magi. The Baptism of Jesus
was the moment when he passed from the relative obscurity of village life in Nazareth onto the public
stage of his mission of proclaiming the God’s Kingdom. We are brought to the banks of the River Jor-
dan somewhere north of Jerusalem where John the Baptist had begun his ministry. John the Baptist was preaching in the wilderness and was baptizing all those who would respond to his message of repent-
ance. The purpose of his ministry of preaching and Baptism was to direct people toward Jesus who
would baptize them with the Holy Spirit. The Scriptures tell us that Jesus came from Galilee to River Jordan to be baptized by John the Baptist. Jesus subjects himself to this simple act of repentance and is
baptized by his own cousin. Baptism is meant as an acknowledgement of sin and Jesus was totally sin-
less. He had no need of repentance or forgiveness. Yet this was the beginning of his mission as was planned by his Father. The Baptism of Christ as recorded in all the four Gospels indicates the Trinitarian
Revelation and the commencement of the public ministry of Jesus. When Jesus came out of water after
his Baptism the heavens open and the Holy Spirit descends upon Him in the form of a dove. There is
also the voice of the Father that comes from the cloud, “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” God bless.

PRAYER FOR THE UNBORN CHILD
Heavenly Father, in Your love for us, protect against the wickedness of the devil, those helpless little ones to whom You have given the gift of life. Touch with pity the hearts of those women pregnant in our world today who are not
thinking of motherhood. Help them to see that the child they carry is made in Your image, as well as theirs, made
for eternal life. Dispel their fear and selfishness and give them true womanly hearts to love their babies and give them birth and all the needed care that a mother alone can give. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
STEWARDSHIP BULLETIN REFLECTIONS
“And a voice came from the heavens, ‘You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.’” - Mark
1:11
Through our baptism, we too, are daughters and sons of God. We are disciples of Jesus. As true disci-ples we are called to actively participate in our Catholic faith, not just be mere bystanders. This means
working in collaboration with Holy Spirit and discerning how we are being asked to use our gifts. Using
our gifts for the benefit of others and not just for our own interests and comfort.

MEDITATION POINTS
"Let each of us accept the truth of the following statement and try to make it our most fundamental principle: Christ's teaching will never let us down, while worldly wisdom always will. Christ Himself said that this sort of wisdom was like a house with nothing
but sand as its foundation, while His own was like a building with solid rock as its foundation." St. Vincent de Paul.
"The life of prayer calls for continuous battles. It is the most important and the longest effort in a life dedicated to God. This effort has been given a beautiful name: it is called the guard of the heart. The human heart is a city; it was meant to be a stronghold. Sin
surrendered it. Henceforth it is an open city, the walls of which have to be built up again. The enemy never ceases to do all he can to
prevent this. He does this with his accustomed cleverness and strength, with stratagem and fury ... he succeeds all along the line to distract us and entice us away from the divine presence. We must always be starting again. These continual recoveries, this endless
beginning again, tires and disheartens us far more than the actual fighting. We would much prefer a real battle, fierce and decisive.
But God, as a rule, thinks otherwise. He would rather we were in a constant state of war." Dom Augustin Guillerand.
