Moves in recent years by Universal, renowned settlements as MTV, Coca- Cola and Zalando, the construction of the O2-World - now Mercedes-Benz Arena - and Daimler’s new sales headquarters have marked the area. In general the location is growing in significance as a service center with hotels and restaurants. Global players and smaller businesses from media and music, art and culture, fashion and design are drawn to the Friedrichshain side of the Spree River. FACILITIES Sites between Stralauer Allee and Mühlenstraße vary from the high- ly modern glass Energieforum to modernized industrial buildings which are heritage protected. On the edge of the city center this has developed into a mixed district with space available for commercial uses and services. ACCESSIBILITY In the Spree River area, approxi- mately 360 trains (commuter trains, long-distance trains and the S-Bahn) transport up to 120,000 people each day. Numerous S-Bahn stations create central connection points for the entire transport network. Interna- tionally the location is connected to both Tegel and Schönefeld airports, with the latter being the site for the future BER airport.
