MAINTAINING HIGH STANDARDS…

'Maintenance of this prestigious accreditation is at the core of what we do as Badgers'…

At a time when the Worcestershire FA has commenced safeguarding validation visits to training and matches, across all of their Charter Standard affiliated clubs, and

whilst reading the club’s history now included on our new website, it struck me as an important time to focus on what role we all have in looking after the young football

players at our club…

Launched in 2001, The FA Charter Standard Programme is The FA’s accreditation scheme for grassroots clubs. It’s Goal is to raise standards in grassroots football, support the development of clubs, whilst recognising and rewarding clubs for their commitment and achievements. With this in mind, The FA Charter Standard accreditation is awarded

to clubs rigorously adjudged to be well-run, sustainable and, most importantly, those that prioritise child protection, quality coaching and implementation of the Respect programme.

A Charter Standard Community Football Club since 2009, maintenance of this prestigious a ccreditation is at the core of what we do as Badgers. Scrutiny of all we achieve is unavoidable but sharing of knowledge and preparation can avoid failure. Failure

whilst supporting the children who are part of our club is unthinkable, hence why we ask that at all sessions:

Minimum of one FA Level 1 qualified Coach to be present at training and fixtures;

Anyone supporting coaching, pitch side, must have a current club CRB / DBS No one is to enter the playing area (3G for Dysons and coaches side of the pitch for matches / cross the Respect ba r-

rier) who is not in possession of a valid CRB

For all squads up to u11’s, no player is to leave training nor matches unaccompanied All team coaches and pitch side coaching volunteers will be identifiable by wearing LBBFC branded clothing and must

have access to an appropriately maintained First Aid Kit at training and matches

Coaches or assistants must refrain from playing/participating in their coaching sessions based on FA guidance. There are 2 main reasons for this (1) accidental risk of injury to their players and (2) they are coaches and by playing in their

sessions they are taking touches away from the players that the players should be having.

Having recently completed the FA Safeguarding module myself, the topic of adults playing in children's sessions was a recurring theme. Anyone from the County FA attending a Badger training s ession, and observing adult coaches playing in junior coach-ing sessions, would raise immediate alarm bells. Obviously anyone that has coached a junior football side will have, at some

time, played between the sticks, and seen themselves as the next Joe Hart, but this is still seen as poor practice. Coaches should be creative and think of alternatives;

one touch finish

restricted areas to score in

targets in goals, balls or cones, etc.

Coaches delivering a demo to support learning can be good practice but coaches ‘playing’ in sessions is not recommended and

therefore we should all follow the advice.

Despite a fantastic performance by our battling Dynamo squad, this fledgling side were denied their

first piece of silverware by an equally impressive Worcester Colts FC in the final of the MFJFL's U9's George Goode Memorial Shield.

In a nail-biting, end to end, seven goal thriller, the young Badgers found themselves 2-0 up, then 4-2

down, before scoring their third goal to set up a nerve-jangling finale. But alas, 4-3 was how the

score remained! See feature herein…

Meanwhile, in the league, our impressive U16's Town squad moved to the top of the MFJFL's U16's Division Two with a fantastic 5-2 win against former league leaders, West Worcester Youth FC. In

the process, the Town also avenged two previous defeats this season to their opponents, 1-0 and 3-2, and also saw them leapfrog their club mates, the U16's County, who lie in second spot despite a fine

11-2 win over basement side, Warndon Villages Phoenix FC.

Comments From Our Coach

Bosko Medakovic,

Senior Coach – Boys Junior Football & Development (FA Level 2)

'No Respect = No Referee = No Game' – Get The Message And Support The FA’s Respect Campaign!

We have now launched our new website – www.lbbfc.com – with thanks to Brand Refinery for over-seeing matters. Our website is important to us as it is a great foothold in the 'electronic' world in

which we all (some more reluctantly so than others) now live.

It is the main place where you can find things out about our great little club and the wonderful things we do, and it also gives you the chance to add your bit by making suggestions and providing details

like features and photo's for possible inclusion. See feature further herein.

It is a constant challenge trying to keep everyone interested in our business as up to date on matters as we possibly can, and our website is one of the most potent medias we have available that ena-bles us to do this . However, whilst we can publish information, we do need folk to view it for maxi-

mum effect… so please make the effort and visit the site o ften!

My thanks go to the folks at Brand Refinery for their fantastic and professional setting up of the site, along with the efforts of my club colleagues in supplying the necessary data. I would also like to say thanks to our out-going club web-site manager, Greg

Evans, who for the past 15 years or so has taken wonderful care of matters in this respect.

I was at the MFJFL U9's Cup Final last month to watch our Dynamo

squad compete with their counterparts from Worcester Colts FC. See feature herein. Despite the result, the game was perhaps one of the most entertaining finals I have seen, and both sides can be rightly

proud of the show they put on. Listening to many folk on the side lines paying great compliment to the youngsters for their skill and team play

was very gratifying to hear.

From what I saw, every player contributed positively to their cause and in the end it was a shame that there had to be an odd goal that settled it, but that can and does happen in football. I know that this squad has worked hard to develop their skills and abilities and m y congratulation go to Team Coaches, Paul Burgess and Craig Williams, and of course to the players for such a great performance, as well as to Owen Bourne

for his 'Man of the Match' display.

The game almost produced a new record fastest ever goal scored in a competitive game by an L&BBFC club side. The current record is held by Joe Weaver of our now defunct U10's Rangers squad back in 2008/9 in a game at Monmouth Town AFC,

when he amazingly netted with only 3 seconds… yes, 3 seconds… on the clock! As it was, although just as amazing, Jayden Ward's 6 second strike fell just short of Joe's record time.

The final gave me a chance to catch up with our friends who run the MFJFL and thank them for their e fforts over the season and hospitality… I always seem to get a cup of tea and slice of cake at half time! They really do put in a lot of time and undertake a huge amount of work to ensure that clubs like ours get the most out of being part of a structured gras sroots league. I was told that the MFJFL were recently awarded the FA Charter Standard League of the Year Award by the WFA and am pleased to note

that their fantastic efforts have not gone un-noticed. Well done MFJFL!

Don't forget that our U12's Hibernian has a league cup final this month and your support is most welcome. See feature herein!

Well done to Simon and the team for putting on a very enjoyable bowling day at the MFA Bowl, Worcester, last month. Feed-back from my group of youngsters was that they all had a great time. I have long since believed that as a club, it is good to get together in circumstances other than football from time to time. It is one of the few ways in which everyone from coaches to par-

ents can meet up and socialise without the rigours and routines of football dictating affairs.

This bowling event followed hot on the heels of our very successful Christmas Disco and proved yet again that within the club there is a strong feeling of togetherness that makes our club pos itive, welcoming, and strong. My thanks go to everyone who

helped and attended.

Finally, we have now concluded our midweek training session programme and will no doubt look to do things all over again come September. However, in the meantime, players/parents are asked to check

with relevant Team Administrators/Coaches with regard to midweek training sessions/games from April onwards.

My thanks go to everybody who helped make our use of the ATP at Dyson Perrins Academy another suc-cess, as apart from the usual litter and goalpost reminders, I am not aware there have been any com-

plaints about our usage or users!

Have a wonderful Easter break!

YOUNG BADGERS PIPPED IN…

Worcester Colts 4 Vs 3 L&BBFC U9's Dynamo

MFJFL U9's George Goode Memorial Shield

Despite a brave battling display underpinned by a 'Man of the Match' performance from youngster, Owen Bourne, our U9's Dynamo were unable to avoid a heart-breaking 4-3 defeat at the hands of Worcester Colts FC…

The Badgers started the match in de-

termined mood and raced into a 2-0 lead within the opening 6 minutes of the tie. In fact, their opening goal must be one of if not the fasted goal to be

scored in a MFJFL cup final… it almost set a new club record!

Straight from the kick off a long ball was played forward with Dy-namo striker, Jayden Ward running through to stab the ball home past a surprised 'keeper with only 6 seconds on the clock, much to

the delight of the vocal 'black & white' support in the 110 or so crowd.

Pressing the Colts with a sustained barrage of attack-minded play, the Dynamo got a deserved second goal in the 6th minute

when a quick-thinking Sam Williams left his marker to ghost his way into the box and steer home a cross at the far post that had evaded all clearance attempts from a stretched Colts defence.

After this goal, the Colts rallied and began to threaten the Badgers more so as play evolved into an entertaining end to end

encounter. However, mainly due to some stoic defending by both sets of defence and 'keepers, no fur-ther goals followed as Dynamo went into the break with a seemingly comfortable 2-0 lead.

At the start of the second period, it was the Colts turn to apply pressure and lay an attacking barrage upon a stunned Dynamo defence. It didn't take long for the Worcester side to break through and by the 23

rd minute, they had turned matters around, scoring four well taken goals in an amazing 8 minute spell

to lead the game 4-2.

To their credit, the Badgers never gave up and hit back going close with some testing shots from range. But it was the Colts who could have extended their lead when a one on one situation saw their striker hit the upright with 'keeper, Zach Burgess advancing. On another occasion, the young Dynamo stopper

made a brave block to deny the Colts what looked a certain goal.

However, in what proved to be the final goal of this seven goal thriller, the ever-battling Dynamo side set up a nail-biting final 5

minutes when Freddie Brooks rifled home a low shot from inside the box to reduce the arrears, following a

series of sustained Badger attacks. But despite constant-ly applying great pressure on the Worcester goal, the

Colts held out for the win.

Afterwards, MFJFL Cup Benefactor, Steve Goode said, 'this was a fantastic game of junior football that proved a credit to both clubs. I was impressed by both sides and the great goals they scored. Of particular note was the

tremendous work rate and two footed skilful play from the young Badgers number 4 (Owen Bourne), who caught my eye for the 'Man of the Match' award just ahead of

some other great contenders. My congratulations go to both sides on producing such a wonderful display.'

FA ANNOUNCES GRASSROOTS…

Aspiring grassroots footballers from two under-represented groups will soon have the opportunity to play in more teams thanks to the FA's The Grow The

Game Programme…

Grow the Game, which is delivered by the Football Foundation

and first launched back in 2010, offers grants to grassroots foot-ball clubs that wish to create new teams. This year, applications

are being encouraged from clubs who want to start:

Women and girls teams

Disability teams

Grow the Game grants help to reduce the costs associated with

starting new grassroots football teams by making £1,500 availa-ble for each that a club creates. Expenditure that the funding can help a club pay for includes: FA coaching cours-es; FA league affiliation costs; referees’ fees; first aid kits; and even football kit and equipment through a bespoke

voucher. Grow the Game is inclusive of players from different genders, ethnic backgrounds, faiths, ages, sexual orientations

and those with disabilities. Applications that originate from, or provide for, under-represented communities are be-ing encouraged.

England Men’s Senior Manager and Football Foundation Ambassador, Gareth Southgate, said: “I am delighted that

the Grow the Game programme is back. It means the pool of players in this country continues to widen, unearthing talent from all backgrounds in the process."

Danielle Carter, England and Arsenal Women’s striker, also backed the scheme saying: “As a footballer, one of the most rewarding things is seeing young supporters at the game and hoping that they too take up football after

watching England play. I was lucky when I was a young girl as I joined Leyton Orient at the age of 10, but for many

of my teammates they were playing in boys teams until they were older. It’s great that Grow the Game will mean that more girls teams will be created and give more people the chance to play and enjoy football.”

Brandon Coleman, England Blind footballer, claimed: “By recognising areas of the game where playing opportuni-ties are really limited, and focusing on developing them by providing funds that could make all the difference, Grow

the Game plays a big part in mak ing sure that football in England is open and accessible For All.”

In addition, male teams of Under-17s-and-upwards that already exist will soon be able to apply for support from a

new FA, retention-focused scheme called Retain the Game, which will offer £1m to successful applicants and

launch in April. It will allow open-age male teams to apply for financial support to aid their continued participation in the game.

Last year the Football Foundation, England’s largest sports charity, and FA initiative supported:

2,047 new teams

10,016 female footballers

18,941 male footballers

7,407 new coaching qualifications

As well as Grow the Game, the Football Foundation delivers the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund on be-half of the Premier League, The FA and the Government, through Sport England. Since 2000, the Foundation has

supported over 15,000 grassroots projects worth more than £1.4bn.
