MICHELLE THORNE – SOPRANOMichelle has been a classical singer for six years and has been involved in dramatic and musical roles in amateur theatre since 2008. Her first show was Les Miserables in which she led the fi-nal chorus of “Do You Hear The People Sing?” She sang the role of Mabel for Papakura Theatre Company’s Pirates of Penzance in 2012. Most recently she sang in the Opera Factory’s Production of Gianni Schicci. She is currently a performing member of the Auckland Clef Music Club. Michelle also teaches singing to young pupils at Papakura Music School and enjoyed her role as Musical Director in PTC’s Alice in Wonderland Jr. She is thrilled to be MD again for Beauty and the Beast Jr, due to open with PTC in April.

“Chookas” is a specialised theatre term, with a similar meaning to “break a leg”. The term originates when eating chicken was a treat. Depending on the box-office take, a full house meant that performers would be able to afford a chicken meal. “Chook it is” was eventually shortened to “chookas” and was used by performers to wish each other a successful show, regardless of how many people were in the audience!
