PROGRAM
Day 3 Friday 9th October 2015 Mount Coot-tha Quarry
ATS DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOPFriday 9th October 2015
Site visit Mount Coot-tha Quarry
The tour will commence with coffee provided.
Technical experts from industry, designers, constructors and suppliers will provide practical demonstrations in a live project environment at the Mount Coot-tha Quarry. The workshop will provide delegates an opportunity to view the Mount Coot-tha Quarry and Legacy Way conveyor tunnel and participate in the practical workshop of a number of tunnelling applications that will be discussed during the short course program.
As part of the Brisbane Legacy Way Tunnel project, an underground conveyor was used to transport spoil from tunnel excavation underneath the Brisbane Botanic Gardens and through to the Mount Coot-tha Quarry. The conveyor tunnel was excavated using drill and blast construction methods. The construction of the spoil conveyer enabled spoil removal 24 hours a day, seven days a week in line with tunnel boring machine (TBM) operations. This spoil conveyor eliminated the need for 96,000 truck movements on surrounding roads.
Buses will depart from the Brisbane CBD to the Quarry. Buses will return to Brisbane CBD or to Brisbane Domestic airport
All delegates will be required to wear long pants, closed toe safety boots and a long sleeve shirtReasonable fitness and mobility is required as the tour involves walking through a working quarry.
