The Story….

In the center of Matterville, there is a place

called the Nucleus Arcade, w

here two

mem

bers of the Atoms Fam

ily like to hang out. Perky Patty Proton, like her sisters, is quite large w

ith a huge smile and eyes that

sparkle (+). Patty is always happy and has a

very positive personality.

The Story….

Nerdy N

elda Neutron is large like Patty, but

she has a boring, flat mouth and eyes w

ith zero expression (o). H

er family is very

apathetic and neutral about everything. Patty, N

elda, and their sisters spend all their tim

e at the arcade.

The Story….

Around the Nucleus Arcade, you w

ill find a series of roadw

ays that are used by another m

ember of the Atom

s Family, Enraged

Elliott Electron. Elliott races madly around

the arcade on his bright red chrome-plated

Harley D

avidson. He rides so fast that no

one can be sure where he is at any tim

e.

The Story….

Elliott is much sm

aller than Patty and Nelda

and he is always angry because these bigger

relatives will not let him

in the Arcade. He

has a frown on his face, eyes that are

squinted with anger, and a very negative

attitude (-).

The Story….

The first energy street can only hold two

Electron brothers.

The second energy street, called Energy Freew

ay, can only hold 8 brothers.

The third energy street, called the Energy Superhighw

ay, can hold 18 of the brothers.

Morale of M

atterville

•The m

orale of Matterville is stable as long

as it has the same num

ber of protons (+) and electrons (-).

•If som

eone kidnaps one Elliott Electron, the m

orale of Matterville w

ould become

positive (more protons).

•If one Elliott Electron w

ere to move to

Matterville, the m

orale would be negative

(more electrons).

Periodic Table & Atom

Basics

•Lew

is Structure–

A Lewis Structure consists of the

atomic sym

bol surrounded by “dots” to represent the num

ber of electrons in the outer energy level as represented by a Bohr D

iagram.

–These electrons in the outer energy level are called valence electrons.
