Fishing with the Penn Spinsher V is likedriving a monster truck. What I am trying to
say is that in the city where roads are nice
and we dont have to play tough, a sporty car
with smooth engine would be great but not
when one is driving in the jungle, on jungletracks, climbing muddy terrain, rocks, and
ravines.
Test Drives
Penn Spinfisher Vy Philemon Foo
Most reels can handle generally most kinds
of shing in our waters but when you are in
a tug-of-war with a tough reel bursng bug-
ger of a brute, you want the Penn Spinsher
V on your side. Here when I say brute, I dont
mean those 40 or 50 or 60 kg sailsh kind of
brute. What I really meant are the kinds of
brutes that will pull even Superman into the
water, slap him a bit, and send him home to
Krypton; those kinds of BRUTES.

Performance Of A Monster
When it comes to looks the Penn Spinsh-
er V doesnt look like much. Ma black
body with gold colored spool and handle,
with gold taoos, and a black rubber
power-handle knob; doesnt really score
well in the looks department. Then again,
would you put a good looking, soy kindof a model in a ring with Iron Mike Tyson?
It wouldnt be just his ears that Iron Mike
would be chewing on.Where the Spinsher V loses out (looks),
it gains in performance and strength es-
pecially the SSV7500 that I now have in
my hands. With a maximum drag of 35lb
(I really feel that it is more), the Penn
Spinsher V is a monster to use especially
when you consider the price range that it
sits in of which is prey darn decent.

Give the drag control knob a few turns
and you can feel the drag geng stronger.
Give it a few more turns and you can feel
that hands are turning numb just by try-
ing to turn the spool. A few more turns
and your hands would have given up turn-
ing the spool. The drag is not at its max
yet. There are a few more turns that you
can do. That is how much drags the Spin-
sher V packs.

12/98
The Spinsher Vs drag system comes from
the proven Penn Slammer of which is an
oversized powerhouse of a drag that is
sealed and sits safe, protected from the ele-
ments. These translates to smooth, power-
ful, and protected.
Built Like A Tank
Tanks are some of the toughest and scari-
est looking vehicles every made. They make
monster trucks look like cat-walking models.
Tanks are really tough too. They can cover
almost any type of terrain and they can take
a few hits from missiles of which no other
normal vehicles could.
22
7/28/2019 The Asian Angler - February 2013 Digital Issue - Malaysia - English
13/98
The Spinsher V is built like a tank. It is built
solid and sturdy. It doesnt bend under pres-
sure. Even the fat stainless steel main sha
is built to remain in one sturdy shape and
not bend. It also comes with tough alloy
gears (main gear) that can take the heat of
the ght.
Keep pushing it and all you will be hearing is
bring it on. Is that all youve got? Well of
course everything has limits.
How Fast Does A Tank Go?
The Penn Spinsher V is denitely not the
fastest modern reel around but how fast can
a tank really go? While no the fastest, it is
also not the slowest. The Spinsher V reels
come with gear raos from a low 4.2:1 to
a speedier 6.2:1. The one that I have, the
SSV7500, has a gear rao of 4.7:1 with 36inches per turn.

14/98
Super-Line Friendly
Super-line users will nd the Spinsher V to
be a close companion. The weakest point
of a shing line is the knot and most an-
glers know that. This means that super-line
users will have more knots on their lines
since they need one to join the backup line
(mono) to the mainline line (Super-line)
and one to their leaders. We havent talked
about the one at the hook yet. Arguably
tape can be used as well.
Anyhow, the Spinsher V comes with a
super-line friendly spool of which has a rub-
ber grip in the middle of it for super-lines to
hold and not slip.

What Do I Think
If David were to have another ght with the
Giant, Goliath, his choice of weapon would
no longer be the sling but the Penn Spin-
sher V. It is a super strong reel that could
quite eortlessly subdue a giant, and while
Goliath is on the ground, used to keep himdown.
If you are going for seriously big game sh-
ing and you want a value for money reel that
is strong and tough, this is one reel that you
should seriously consider bringing along. For
all other less brutal types of shing, this reel
is denitely overkill.

Test Drives
Quantum EXO Spinningy Philemon Foo
In November we test drove one of the hot-test baitcasting reels around, the QuantumEXO PT baitcasting reel. This month wetest drive the Quantum EXO PT spinningreel of which is hot, so hot that even Bum-blebee, the yellow robot from Transformerscouldnt resist but to give a hand.
Weightless Engineering
We love lightweight, we love really cooldesigns, we love strength, and we lovegood quality. These are whats left of theQuantum EXO PT spinning reel after theengineers removed all the unnecessaryweights. There are so many holes on thisreel that wind would probably just blowthrough them and that is a very good thing.
While the Quantum EXO PT Spinning may
not be the lightest spinning reel around, it iscertainly garners a lot of attention.

tum EXO Spinning

Awesome Design
Design is something rather personalbut I dare say that the Quantum EXPPT Spinning will turn every anglersheads. The designers of this reel prob-ably came from another planet bringingwith them an out of this world mind
that created an out of this world de-sign.
Most reels in the market today looksporty. Some get design cues off sportscars, some off ghter jets, but theQuantum EXO PT Spinning got its cuesfrom the future.
Simply awesome design. Every hole repre-
sents weight saving.

Designed For Strength
Another criterion that a lot of anglers lookat is strength. How strong a reel is. Doesit have the drag strength to handle theirkind of shing? Will it break under pres-sure?
This reel certainly has enough dragstrength to handle most types of shing,
with a max drag of about 15 to 16lb. Infact it will help you manage ghts welland will take on almost any freshwatershes found here in our lakes and river.

21/98
Well Engineered Reel Foot
The reel foot has a longer front and ashorter back. This is done in such a waythat it will be able to better manage thefrontal pressure when playing a big sh.Higher pressure is always at the frontarea of the reel foot.
The reel stem is also sturdy giving ita strong foot and stem combinationwhich is great. A weak stem causes exand a wobbly reel, something that youwouldnt like to have when playing ash. With the EXO PT, you dont have toworry about this.
Well design reel foot and stem shows that the
engineers used a lot of pshysics in their de -
signs.

7/28/2019 The Asian Angler - February 2013 Digital Issue - Malaysia - English
22/98
Reverse Engineering
What most anglers look for in a spin-ning reel is a sturdy bail-arm that doesnot cave in and rubs against the spoolwhile under pressure. Most reels thesedays come with a sturdy bail-arm anda tough, sturdy, and thick bail-arm wire,
something that most reel engineerswould design.
This is not what the engineers forQuantum had in mind. Instead of mak-ing a tough, thick, and sturdy bail-armwire, they have decided to go the otherway. They created a bail-arm wire us-ing Nickel-Titanium, and made it softer, bendable, and strong. This means thatthe bail-arm wire will absorb shock andnot break.
A softer Nickel-Titanium bail-wire makes a lot
of sense. Softer bail-wire absorbs impact thus
it will be able to take more or higher impact
before breaking.
42

23/98
Tough Spool
The spool of the Quantum EXO PT Spin-ning is tough and light weight and will notbreak or crush under pressure. It alsocomes with a reverse lip of which reducesfriction and gives you further casting dis-
tances.
Unique Handle Design
While a lot of reels out there have adopteda smooth and rounded reel handle, theQuantum EXO PT Spinnings handle ismore rugged, tough, with a superb design. It is also built tough with what Quantumcalls the 6061 tempered aluminium.
Another strong point of the handle is that itis designed to counterbalance the weight
of the handle knob thus giving smootherhandle rotations.

What Do I Think
Overall the Quantum EXO PT Spinning isa reel made to perform. There are a fewspinning reels that I really like and this isone of them.
Tough enough to handle most of my sh-ing (I landed a 8kg redtail catsh withoutmuch fuss), performs really well, and I just
love the design.
If Bumblebee likes it, I think everyone elsewill.

I admit that I do not use as muchhard plastic lures as I used to butmy frequency of usage has sinceincreased. Recently I took theMegabass X-55 minnow for a little
swim. I didnt have much time with itbut whatever time we had together, were great a fruitful.

I tested this lure at the ClearwaterSanctuary in Perak and I like it. I likeit not only because it swims well.I like it also because it helped mecatch a few sh during my trip.

Giving It Life
I cast out the little X-55 and it glidedon air a while before landing in thewater. I gave it a slight twitch and
that started its engine and it cameto life. Twitching the lure in the wa-ter gave it a darting swim action andthat managed to attract the peacockbasses. Twitch, twitch, twitch, andbam; followed by my rod tip bend-
After a short ght, a peacock basscame up to greet me. This is whatpeople meant by having a good startto the day. It is not just cereals andfruits for a hearty breakfast (althoughthey do too) but your lure being takenby a sh that equates to a good start
of a day. The X-55 landed two pea-cock basses and the haruan on asteady retrieve, what better way tostart the day?
54

29/98
My Thoughts
I will need to buy a few more ofthese. While they are great atcatching sh, the Megabass X-55is also light (2g-3.4g about there)and is best used with lighter linesand rods to get distance. Withheavier lines you will not be get-ting much distance. This is a good
lure for nesse shing and I dorecommend that you bring someon your shing trips.

Wagglers? Denitely not a com-mon name in Malaysias shingscene! But what in the world arethey? I would put a simple deni-
tion of wagglers as shing oatsthat are attached to the mainlinethrough their eye at the bottompart only.
ourse Fishing With The Guvnor : Wagglersy Tengku Izzudin
Wagglers are very common incoarse shing and many anglersin England and Europe wouldhave picked up this method froma very young age due to its sim-plicity and effectiveness. Whilemany local anglers would useshing oats as a means of sus-pending bait in mid-water, wag-
glers are more versatile in thesense that it not only presentsbait in a more natural manner butit also serves as an excellent biteindicator.
58
7/28/2019 The Asian Angler - February 2013 Digital Issue - Malaysia - English
31/98
Even small, subtle bites can be detectedvia a well presented and shotted oat.Such sensitivity in bite detection are oneof the main traits of the waggler. For ex-ample is an angler is bottom shing in say6 feet of water, 40 feet from the bank. Abite would have to travel 40.45 feet (Py-thagoras!) to reach the anglers rod tip, while for the same condition a bite wouldonly travel 6 feet to register on the oat, provided you have keen eyesight that is!
A straight peacock waggler by Dave Harrell, a
former England International.
60
7/28/2019 The Asian Angler - February 2013 Digital Issue - Malaysia - English
32/98
The most basic waggler is the straight pea-cock waggler. Most wagglers are made frompeacock quill which in my humble opinion isstill the best natural material for wagglers. Al-though being a natural material, it might posesome subtle differences between one wagglerto another of the same size and rating. Butbeing cheap and good and readily availablemakes peacock quill a winner. Some thickerwagglers can be made from balsa or foam, and plastic is also a popular material, as one
can have a clear, transparent waggler.
The insert waggler, notice the smaller tip to
provide better bite sensitivi ty.
62
7/28/2019 The Asian Angler - February 2013 Digital Issue - Malaysia - English
33/98
Wagglers do come in many other vari-eties such as inserts, loaded, bodied, sliders and splasher wagglers andthey all have their place on certain
water and shing conditions. But formost conditions, anglers would stillput their faith in the straight peacockwaggler for either stillwaters or run-ning waters.
Every waggler comes with a base rating as
a guide to cock the oat

The basic design has not changedmuch, the bottom where one wouldthread the line through is the eye, go-ing upwards you have the body fol-lowed by the tip, which can be brightorange or yellow for better visibility.Sometimes to achieve distance orto suit a certain shing style somevariations such as a body or ns cancome into play but well have to leavethat for another day.
The eye at the bottom of the waggler
where the mainline goes through.
Many of the popular brand names suchas Dick Cleggs, (Peter) Drennan, Serie(Tamas) Walterand more recently DaveHarrellare actually names of establishedanglers who designed them. These an-glers are used to representing their coun-try in angling matches and tournamentsand they really know their stuff. Othermanufacturers such as Middy, Image,Kamasan and Mosella are also well re-spected brands.
The tip normally comes in either orange or yel -
low or even coloured black, the colour choice
depends on best visibility given the water sur-
face.

Wagglers and oats can be highlycollectible too. We know of manyanglers who collect beautiful or rarelures but there are also some anglerswho are oat enthusiasts as well.

If youre a technical angler then wagglershing is denitely for you! I must admit itcan be hard work (if you can call shingwork) but the rewards are there for theoat angler who pays attention to all thedetails in this exciting and challengingmethod of shing.

the balcony is a lot of fun. Not as fruitful
but relaxing and fun.
This also reminds me of how, as an-glers, we do take our family for holi-days but we end up shing while theyare left to do what they want. A familyholiday is supposed to be spent to-gether as a family and no one shouldbe deprived on doing ones favouriteactivity like shing, kite ying, swim-
ming, etc. So this section is for you,the anglers.

Anglers family Holiday Resort
The Clearwater Sanctuary Sri Damai Resort is one of my favou-rite holiday resorts. It has all of the things that a family, especiallyone with an angler, needs. It is design and built in such a way thatit encompasses nature. There are a variety of birds like wood-peckers, kingshers, and those that lives by the waters edge, aswell as other animals like otters, squirrels, monkeys, boars, moni-tor lizards, etc.
Wildlife is in abundance here. I was shing one morning and
noticed this little fella hunting for food two balconies away from
mine.

Land with lakes: 1,063 acres (46,304 280 Square Feet)
Lakes: 430 acres Resort: 21 acres
Last month, my family and Idecided to take a slow drivethere for a 4 days holiday. Ihad some lures and reels totest, and my daughter wason a month long holiday. I
packed some shing gear formy daughter and me, and weheaded to Clearwater Sanctu-ary.
Driving there took slightlyabove two hours (plus a fewminutes stop in between) fromSubang Jaya; using the NorthSouth Expressway, and exit-ing at Batu Gajah. The driveis easy and can be some-what boring as most straighthighways are but in no time,
we were soaking in the Atmo-sphere at Clearwater Sanctu-ary.

After settling down in our cha-let, the rst thing we did was toattack the swimming pool. Kidslove swimming pools and mydaughter is no different. My wife

Near the swimming pool is the Chil-drens Centre. There are slides, and swings, and other stuffs thatkids enjoy playing in there. The nextday, after breakfast, my wife anddaughter headed to the ChildrensCentre. My daughter went nuts overthe slide and this furry thing that
looks like a bunny. I went to the sh-ing club for some casting and afterabout 20 minutes under the hot sunI headed back to the Children Cen-tre, and the air-conditioning was a

Our chalet, number 126, had one more advantage. The water be-neath the balcony doesnt have much water plants allowing me tocast lures and play them condently. The water plants were be-low the balcony. To the right and left of the balcony is where theplants are that allowed me to cast lures to as well (beside them).

Recommended Fishing Tackle
Fishing rods: Light to medium weighted, casting or spinning. For lure casters, a lightaction rod will be plenty of fun. There arebig shes lurking about in the water suchas carps thus a medium rod will be safe forbottom shing.
Reels: Spinning reels size 100 to 300. Cast-ing: Low prole reels. Shallow spool reelswill be enough.
Lines: 10lb to 15lb braid or mono (if poppingfor tomans (giant snakehead) in the eve-ning). For more excitement, go lower; 2lb to6lb.
Lures : Minnows, poppers, spoons, andspinners.
Baits : shrimps, bait-sh, dough (boillies),etc.
Types of shing: Lure casting, bottom sh-
ing, and pole shing (oat / waggler).
y little favourite secret spot is home to a large family of peacock
ass. Best to keep it that way.

Misc Notes
The chalets are cosy but dated. Themanagement is in the midst of repair-ing and refurbishing some of the chaletsthere. Also do call the resort in advance(on the day that you will be checking in)to let them know the time that you areexpected to arrive and also get them toturn on the air-conditioning for you. Theair-conditioning works but may needtime to cool down the room especiallyon hot days.

Skill Enhancers
Advanced Baitcasting Part IIy Philemon Foo
Let us just take this scenario. Yourfriend and you decided to go do someshing in a lake. The sun is hot andthe both of you decided to take shel-ter under a tree with branches abouta foot above your heads. You are
seated at the bow (front) of the 8 feetlong boat and your friend is hangingout at the stern (back).
Suddenly you see the rise of a toman(giant snakehead), and you want tocast but your friend is on your left, you cannot do a overhead cast be-cause of the branches, and your onlyempty space is on your right of whichis where your casting hand is. Whatwould you do? Simple, you do a sidecast. But is it really so?
116
7/28/2019 The Asian Angler - February 2013 Digital Issue - Malaysia - English
60/98
Opportunity Cost
I have been in this same situation beforebut with me at the stern. Some of thoseseated at the bow just decided not to castand you can see that it is not becausethey do not want to cast. They foundthemselves to be in a tight spot wherethey would like to cast but the only spaceavailable to do a cast is one that they donot know how to utilize.
Casting From The Side
If you are in this very same situation, allyou need to do is to learn how to performa side cast, and practise thereafter to getbetter at it, and you will be able to at leasthave give yourself the chance of catchingthe sh.

61/98
The Mechanics Of The SideCast
Side cast simply means casting from theside of your hand that is holding the rod. Ifyou are holding the rod with your right hand, the side cast will be performed on the right.
If you are holding the rod with your left hand, the side cast will then be on your left. Notethat for this lesson, I will assume that you areholding the rod with your right hand.
Bring the rod tip to the back and whip it backto the front. The tip will shoot the lure out infront of you towards your intended target.
120
7/28/2019 The Asian Angler - February 2013 Digital Issue - Malaysia - English
62/98
Imagine that you are hitting a shuttlecock.
This is somewhat the movement of your wristand arm. With your rod tip pointing to 10
oclock (sideways), bring the rod tip towards
the back and then whip out the plug using
the rod tip to execute the cast, the same
way you would with a badminton racket, andfollow through with your right arm.
122
7/28/2019 The Asian Angler - February 2013 Digital Issue - Malaysia - English
63/98
Your rst few casts may have your castingplug ying to your left (if you are casting withyour right hand). It is normal. You need toadjust your cast.
If it ies to the left, you are letting go of thespool too late. If it goes to the right, then you
are releasing the line too early. You want theplug to y straight in front of you.
124
7/28/2019 The Asian Angler - February 2013 Digital Issue - Malaysia - English
64/98
Reel in your casting plug and try again.Practise these few steps over and overagain until it becomes second nature toyou. As you get better, slowly loosen thespool and brakes to achieve better dis-tance.
Give it a try and if you are still unable to doso, send me an email at...
email: [email protected] and I willsee how best to help you.
Remember, practise, practise, practise.

Spoing Fishes
Sebarau: Hampala macrolepidotaBy Philemon Foo

7/28/2019 The Asian Angler - February 2013 Digital Issue - Malaysia - English
66/98
The Sebarau is one of my favouriteshes. If you like speed, the sebarauwill give you a run for your money. Inthe world of car enthusiast, the se-barau would be the Ferrari; collect-ing speeding tickets, and breakinghearts.
Sebarau also known as the Malay-sian jungle perch (or jungle perch ofwhichever country they are found in)is native to many countries in Asia in-cluding Thailand and Malaysia. Theycan be found in rivers and lakes. They are an aggressive sh makingthem ideal freshwater sport shes.
Given the chance, sebaraus cangrow in excess of 10 kilograms butthe average sizes caught these daysare from 500 grams to about 2 kilo-grams. There are larger specimens
but they are rare this days.
Sebarau caught at The Royal Belum
Forest Reserve.

Palate
The sebaraus are carnivores. They love meat and wouldhappily chase down bait shes and insects for a meal. Ihave caught them on dough before but it doesnt happenfrequently. Perhaps every sh whether carnivorous or notwill take vegetables once in a while, maybe to relief a con-stipated tummy.
Socialites
If sebaraus were humans, they would be l iving in pubs andclubs. Just like us humans who seem to not have enoughof Facebook (although I am getting there), sebaraus havethis need to socialize. They like hanging together. Theyare also victims to peer pressure. Catch one in a spotand you will be catching another soon. It is like wow, hecaught one of those silver things and I want one too.
Freshwater Warriors
Sebaraus are hard ghters and will readily put you to thetest. They have very powerful jaws that can easily crushhooks or straighten them. As such it is best not to use
treble hooks as the design of such hooks makes it a disad-vantage when shing for sebarau.
Looking For A Fight
Fishing the sebaraus can certainly be quite an adventure. You can sh them in jungle rivers of which is one of myfavourite places to sh simply because I love cool junglestreams and rivers. You can also sh them in lakes. Justlook out for fallen trees and rocks of which the sebarauscall home.

68/98
Luring The Sebaraus
My favourite lure for sebaraus is actually thesilver Abu Island spoons, of which is alsocalled the curse to the sebarau. I prefer to usethe 18g spoon. The technique is really quitesimple. Just cast into the snags, allow thespoon to drop to the bottom and reel in fast. The faster the better. As such a high speedreel is best.
Sebaraus take lures too. Surface lures dur-ing a feeding frenzy and divers for those at thebottom. Again your lures will have to swim fastand tight as sebaraus love chasing and if youstop half way, they will most likely stop andturn back.
They also take soft plastics especially thosesuch as minnows and crawsh. However, thelures of choice are still spoons and lures.

Enjoying the coolness of the jungle while on a hunt.
Fishing Seasons
Sebaraus can be caught throughout the yearbut the best times to sh for them is duringthe rainy season especially the monsoon, when water levels rise. Sebaraus are moreaggressive early in the mornings and in theevenings. They prefer shaded areas.
Recommended TackleRods: Medium action casting or spinning rod.For the extreme angler a medium light actionrod will be fun and denitely a challenge.
Reels Spinning: Sizes 100 to 200 will be goodenough.
Reels Baitcasting : Low prole, preferably highspeed.
Lines: 10lb to 15lb braided (monolaments canbe used too but I prefer braids).
Leader Lines: 20lb to 25lb uorocarbon.
Spoons : Various types, silver and copperspoons the likes of the Abu Island seems to bethe most effective.
Lures : Crankbaits and minnows.
Flies: I have seen sebaraus take ies but Ihave not caught one on y before.

It has been quite some time sinceI did any form of shing with a oator a waggler on my shing line.Ever since I started putting moretime into fooling shes with hardand soft plastics; my oats, wag-glers, and also some of the stuffsthat I have kept for making them, have gone into hiding somewhere
in my brain.
Revisiting An Old Game
Recently a close friend of mine(Tengku Izzudin, fondly known asGuvnor) invited me to go do someshing. He had a friend who is acompetitive angler and owner of ane-magazine in the United Kingdom, visit him and has plans to go wetsome lines, doing oat shing.
When I talk about oats I do not
mean those round red and whiteplastic balls or the colourful foamtorpedo shaped things but longstick like things with indicators thatunless you have an eye that is al-most as good as an eagles, youhad better be bringing along a pairof binoculars.
140
7/28/2019 The Asian Angler - February 2013 Digital Issue - Malaysia - English
72/98
One of the reasons that I have decided to keep my wag-glers (type of oat) at home and play with lures is be-cause my eyesight is only better than that of a bat, ofwhich is a far cry from that of an eagles. Furthermore Ihave surpassed enlightenment so many times that I feellike I am on clouds daily. Try watching the tip of the oatin water for a couple of hours and soon you will feel highas if you are oating on air; all done without drugs or al-cohol.
Floats On The WaterIf Roger Glover (Deep Purple bass guitarist) were to bean angler, I am not sure if he was or not, this would havebeen the title of their song instead of Smoke On The Wa-ter. It would have probably gone like, oats on the water, shes swimming by.
Anyway, I met up with Guvnor and was introduced toSteve Lockett early one morning at Fish Valley, Semeny-ih. Having worked through the night with very little sleep,I wasnt in the mood to sh. I decided then to just sit backand observe Steve in action. Along with us were anothertwo friends, one of which was in an informal competitionwith Steve, without his knowledge.

Two Different Games
While Guvnor prepared his pole, Steve prepped up his12 foot long match / oat shing rod by Greys, and 6lblines, snugly coiled in his Daiwa reel.
For those who have not done match shing before, it isunlike normal bottom shing. The setting up itself takessome time. Then there is the measurement of the areathat you intend to sh which includes depth of the ar-
eas around your shing zone. You will also have to de-cide to whether you intend to sh right at the bottom atdifferent depth levels.
After that you will need to set the depth of the oat /waggler with the use of split shots. There are also dif-ferent methods of rigging. Thus if you want nesse sh-ing, this would be nesse oat shing.
It is really exciting and denitely addictive. I almost hadto enrol myself with the Match Fishing Anonymous, ifsuch a group existed. For those who have no idea whatthat is, it is like the Alcoholics Anonymous that somepeople with drinking problems go to. How bad is it?Well, I could feel my hands shaking when they were rig-
ging up.

Fish And More Fish
Using corn as bait and feeding about ev-ery minute or two, Steve was on a roll. Hewould watch the tip of his oat and with theslightest movement (of the tip) he wouldstrike and reel in a sh.
Lampams (Puntius schwanenfeldii) wereintroducing themselves one by one. Iblame this on peer pressure. It is like, hey! If he can do it, I can do it too. Thus, if he can y out of water, visitland, and return, so can I, and that iswhat happened that day.
The lampams were not the only ones whopaid a visit, a few good size carps made itto land as well of which gave Steve somethrill, but nothing could beat the stubborncatsh that wouldnt surrender. Steve tookmore than twenty ve minutes to subduethe catsh. It just went on and on, andwhen it stopped, Steve had to slowly takein line worried that his 6lb line would snap.

Should I Rekindle ThisOld Flame?
I am thinking if I should start shingthis way again. I will have to get my-self a new rod, make new wagglers, and do a bit of shopping. I will againhave to explain to people why I ambuying bright coloured nail polish andenamel. Making your own tools is partof the fun.
Perhaps I will, but right now I havethis urge to rewrite the lyrics of oneof my favourite songs from one of myfavourite British bands and hopefullysomeone will read it, put music to it,sing it, and together we can dedicateit to all anglers.
Till then, sh and have fun shing.

A Knot A MonthSponsored by Penn Fishing
Tying good knots is one of the most important things that any an-gler must learn. Certain knots should not be used on braided linesas braided lines are known to cut or damage themselves. Certaintypes of shing requires thicker lines and yet smaller knots. Thereare knots for connecting lines to lines. There are knots for con-necting lines to hooks. There are knots connecting lines to spool. There are knots everywhere in shing.
While there are many knots that you could use, you will probably
stick to your favourites. Anyway, it is good to learn all of them. Forthis issue we will show you one of the simpler but effective knots, the Palomar Knot.
The Berkley Braid Knot
The Berkley braid knot is a good choice for tying braided lines tohooks, lures and leaders. It was developed in the Berkley lab toretain good knot strength and stops braided lines from slipping outof the knot.
1.Run a double loop of braid through hook eye or lure.
2.Loop around tag end main line 8 times.
3.Thread double loop back between the eye and coils.
4.Tighten knot and trim double loop and tag end of braided lineleaving about .

Real FishingBy Philemon Foo
In this months FishinTech, we bring you one of my favouritemobile games that have been pulling me away from work and

Real shing 3D, by PNJ, works iPhone, iPod touch and iPad re-quiring iOS 4.1 or later. It also works on Android devices.
In Game Experience
Well, Real Fishing 3D doesnt give you the actual angling ex-perience not does it get close to it. Like all games it works onsome form of a program and not many programs succeed atgiving a real life shing experience in a game.

However, it is fun and engaging. There are a few lev-els for you to achieve. You will begin as a Rookie andmake your way up the ranks until you achieve the

Deterioration Of Equipment
Take note that your equipment will go through

attened belly in order to skate and pivot more easily on the
surface. Making the Splasher unique to its class.
All Splasher sizes can be cast a tremendous distance and throws
a hug splash for their size. Making it the best topwater lure for
our local waters.

Lip Design
BRL version has a unique
depth feature that when
retrieved slow the bait will
maintain its desired depth,
but when retrieve fast will
actually become shallow to
the point it may break the
surface!
Upper half of body is round
while flat belly helps to cut
through the water to increase
every swimming action
SwimAction
Cupped face acts like
a deep bowl to spit
huge amounts of water
thanks to its shape and
position in the water
Power keel under the belly
allows the lure to be walked
on a slow retrieve when fish
are finicky
Compact bait is less affected
by the wind and casts are still
accurate
Only 1/3 of the Splashers
head sits in the water
allowing for maximum
water disturbance when
popped
Body Design
Specific hump-backed
shape along with a thinner
tail allows for maximum
forward buoyancy providing
optimal swim action
Larger models are full wire
reinforced for larger fish
