The Art of Vienna &
Budapest October 6–13, 2018
The Kiss (detail), Gustav Klimt (1908), Belvedere
Spend six nights embedded in the magic of old Vienna and Budapest, exploring famous as well as out-of-the-way charms of these historic cities. Throughout this journey enjoy an exclusive opening at a renowned museum, one of Europe’s contemporary art fairs, and exclusive viewings at private collections and galleries.
Our journey begins in Vienna where we will savor the historic treasures related to the
Habsburg dynasty, with visits to legendary Belvedere Palace, the Albertina, and the
grandiose State Hall of the National Library. We will examine the importance of Vienna’s
renowned artist, Gustav Klimt, at the Secession Building, the Leopold Museum, and the
Burgtheater.
Our journey continues to the city of Budapest, the “Little Paris of Middle Europe”
situated on both banks of the Danube River. Our three-night stay in Budapest includes
visits to classic cultural gems such as the Castle Hill district and the former royal
palace containing the Hungarian National Gallery. Our main emphasis will be the
exciting “Art Market Budapest” where we will be special guests at the pre-opening
celebrations. We will also have the chance to visit many of the best contemporary
galleries of Budapest and discover the Hungarian contemporary art scene.
Free time will be included for self-exploration of Vienna and Budapest’s shops and
charming back streets. We will dine at some of the finest restaurants in the two cities,
and our deluxe five-star accommodations will be at the centrally located Steigenberger
Hotel Herrenhof in Vienna and the Ritz-Carlton in Budapest. This tour provides the
quintessential window into two elegant central European cultural capitals.

Viennese Traditions: Palace Treasures of the Habsburg Dynasty Today is dedicated to Vienna’s resplendent historic treasures,
particularly those related to the powerful Habsburg dynasty, which
controlled most of Central Europe for centuries. This morning, we will
begin the day with a private, early opening of the legendary Belvedere
Palace for an exclusive in-depth guided tour of its treasures, where our
focus will be on the art of Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, the shocking
collection of sculpted heads by the Enlightenment artist Messerschmidt,
and the outstanding Biedermeyer furniture collection. If weather
permits, we will stroll the gardens and learn about the Habsburgs’
commitment to culture, arts, and literature. A delightful lunch awaits us
at Glacis Beislat, not far from the famous Ringstrass. After lunch, we’ll
explore the Albertina Museum and its masterful drawings by Dürer, da
Vinci, Raphael, Rubens, Rembrandt, and other modern masters. There is
also an outstanding collection of Impressionist and German Romantic
paintings. Next door, we

group of young artists breaking away from the bounds of the
traditional Viennese art world, which includes Gustav Klimt’s
