Yoga Session Guidelines and Agreement

Guidelines

To make our sessions as productive as possible and to get the most out of our work together, please follow

these guidelines:

• If you are willing, dedicate daily practice and exercise time between lessons. This will ensure maximum

progress and optimize our time together.

• Let meals or snacks digest before our session. Before practicing yoga, plan on giving yourself time to digest

(2 hours after a meal, 1 hour after a snack). Please hydrate adequately beforehand. You may drink water

during our session as needed.

• Please wear comfortable clothes that are stretchy, but not too loose.

• Ask questions! Please inquire if there is anything you do not understand or want to learn more about.

• If there is anything in particular you want to work on, please ask. Periodically it will be helpful also to review

together your goals for these sessions so we are sure you are getting the most out of working together.

Terms

• Please be on time. Due to travel time and full client schedule, sessions must start and end on time.

• Carve out time for the session with no interruptions. Please turn off cell phones.

• 24 hour cancellation policy:

If a session needs to be rescheduled, please do so within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment. If

cancellation is made with less than 24-hours notice, the full rate of the session will be charged.

• Time is limited and sessions will be most fruitful when these guidelines are followed.

* I agree with the above guidelines and understand them.

PRICING GUIDELINES, CHARTS AND PACKAGE

DEALS FOR YOUR PRIVATE CLIENTS

The formula below will work in any currency. For example, we use USA

currency. Please use the current exchange rate for your country to convert the

US numbers and price your offerings appropriately.

Suggested Pricing Formula

1) Use $1/minute as a base. (For example 60 minutes = $60).

2) Add 20% markup to the base if your area has a healthy economy.

3) Lower this by 20% from the base in a lower-income economy.

4) Add 10-20% to the base if you are providing a specialty skill and/or have

an advanced level of experience.

5) Lower by 20% to the base if you are new to teaching

Note: Optional After-Hours/Distance/Location Charges

Add a 15% increase for privates requested before 7-8am and after 7pm

(depending on your tolerance). You can also add a 15% increase for certain

mile radius from your home to cover gas, time, etc.

Also, consider lowering by 10% if the client comes to you or raise by 10% if

you go to the client.

Page 13: The Art of the Private Yoga Lesson · 2021. 4. 6. · Lee used to call her package of 6 privates a “six pack”. But you can also do four at once or even 8-20 at once, and offer

© 90 Monkeys 2014-2015

Example:

If the going rate in your area is $75/hour:

New

Teacher

Experienced

Teacher

Nationally

Recognized Teacher

$65-70 $75-80 $85-90

After Hours/Distance Charge

(15% increase)

$75-80 $85-90 $90-100

Notes on Package Deals

Advantages of package deals include the following:

• You get commitment up front from your client so that they give the

practice a chance (in the case of new clients)

• You get revenue up front which you can use to upgrade your office,

graphics, website, wardrobe, etc. (Professional elements that help you

find the best clients!)

• Ensures less flakiness with scheduling - this way you both put the

sessions in your calendars ahead of time as soon as they are

purchased.

The downside of package deals:

• You’ll be giving the client a discount therefore it will lower your hourly

rate by a certain amount

The verdict?

Page 14: The Art of the Private Yoga Lesson · 2021. 4. 6. · Lee used to call her package of 6 privates a “six pack”. But you can also do four at once or even 8-20 at once, and offer

© 90 Monkeys 2014-2015

• It is much better to get the cash upfront and the commitment from the

student than to be concerned over a few dollars a session!

Suggested Pricing Formula For Package Deals

1. Decide on how many classes you want to include in the package. Cyndi

Lee used to call her package of 6 privates a “six pack”. But you can

also do four at once or even 8-20 at once, and offer deeper discounts

the more classes they commit to.

2. Multiply the number of classes in your package by your hourly rate.

3. Reduce the price by 5-6% for 4 classes. Progressively increase the

savings by one or two percentage points or for every two classes

beyond 4. So 6 sessions would be reduced by 7-8%, 8 sessions would

be reduced by 8-9% and so forth.

Sample Package Menu Based on $75/Hour

1 Session = $75/hour

4 Sessions = $279 ($21 savings)

6 Sessions = $409 ($31 savings)

10 Sessions = $675 ($75 savings)

Should you make the first lesson free?

No! We discourage this since people have a lower value perception of free

offerings.

How about friend and family discounts?

This can be sticky territory and we recommend making a set policy for friends

and family. Some elements to consider:

• You are a professional and your services are of substantial value.

• Make sure they are selecting you for your unique skills and that you are

the best to deliver that service. They should not hire you out of favoritism

and/or a favor.

• Outline your terms/policy the same as any other client.

Discounts should be minimal (10-15%) to ensure that both parties understand

the value your time and take the sessions seriously.

SUBJECT: Are private yoga lessons right for you?

Dear _________,

If you can answer yes to any of these questions, then private yoga lessons are

for you!

1. I’m not that flexible so I am embarrassed to go to a group yoga class

2. I feel out of shape and want to get back into my body

3. I have a challenging injury (injuries) and I’d do anything to get back to

normal

4. I’m concerned that my injury or health challenge will slow down the rest

of the group or that I’d get hurt with out individual attention

5. I never get enough of those yummy adjustments in group classes and

would love to experience more of that!

6. I feel confused about alignment and proper form – I need a breakdown

of the basics!

7. I prefer to do yoga in my own home, but I am clueless about creating a

home practice

If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, you may find private

lessons to be a wonderful addition to your health and wellness routine. And

I’ve got great news - I just had two new slots open up for private clients!

If you’d like to fill one of these rare slots, reply to this email right away to set up

a time to connect.

How to Spot an Ideal Private Yoga Client

NOT IDEAL CLIENT IDEAL “KEEPER” CLIENT

• Late

• Wants you to “do them” (ie. They

don’t want to make effort or

improve, or don’t care to ask

what yoga can do for them)

• Never get on the mat in between

sessions

• Inconsistent with their bookings

• They have cancelled in less than

24hrs or “no-showed” on you

more than 3 times (3-strikes

you’re out!!) when it was not an

emergency.

• They are creepy/inappropriate

• Makes you feel like you are “the

help”

• Goes on and on about their

issues with you during the

session and/or before or after

the session, disrespecting the

start or end times of the session

• Balks when you raise your rates

• Does not pay you in a timely

fashion or have payment ready

• You never know when they will

decide to book

• On time

• Asks questions

• Focused (eliminates all

distractions from interfering with

the lesson)

• Wants to improve

• Practices with out you in

between sessions

• Is consistent with booking

• Honors your 24hr policy with out

question if they have to cancel

• Advocates for your business by

letting others know about the

results they are getting from

working with you

• Subsequently, refers you to all

their equally cool friends as

clients!

• Doesn’t make you feel like you

are part of “the help”

• Doesn’t make you feel

uncomfortable, hit on you, or

ask you out!

• Likes to talk about non-yoga

things, but knows when to cap it
