I am excited and honored to be named theASCE AZ Section President this year.Thank you to Ted Smithwick for his servicelast year as the Section President inaddition to his many previous years on theSection and YMF Boards. He has inspiredmany, including myself, to get moreinvolved and make their ASCE membershipeven more meaningful.
I was reminded at our Region 8 Assemblyand Arizona Section Conference, therelationships you make in ASCE can trulylast a lifetime. I now can look back over thelast 12 years as a professional, as well asmy time in the U of A Student Section, andam amazed by all the people I’ve met andstill continue to reconnect with through myparticipation in ASCE.
One of my favorite things is the diversity ofour members. I love hearing everyone’sunique story of their career path and how

ASCE SAB and U of A Volunteer Day with Trees for TucsonDeirdre W. Brosnihan, PE, CFM, Community Service Chair, Southern Arizona Branch
On Saturday, October 26th, members from the Southern Arizona Branch and University ofArizona chapter joined with other volunteer groups to help Trees for Tucson to plant 53 treesin south central Tucson. The neighborhood was selected for planting due to the low existingcanopy of trees and its status as a low income neighborhood. Many of the residents receivingfree trees were either financially or physically unable to plant trees themselves. ASCEvolunteers dug basins, planted trees, built berms and mulched the berm as part ofteams. Special thanks to the 12 U of A students who woke up early on a Saturday to buildsome perfectly graded tree basins!

Hello everyone!
As I am rolling off as SAB YMF President I justwanted to take the time to thank you all forgiving me the awesome opportunity to serveyou and also thank you for helping our chaptermake a strong impact in our industry and alsomake a positive contribution in our community. Iwanted to share a summary of what thanks toYOUR help we were able to accomplish this lastyear. We couldn't have done it without thesupport and the hard work by our executiveboard (see picture below). It's been a pleasureworking with such wonderful group of engineersand I look forward to seeing this group continueto grow. I'll see you all around!

YMF is looking for candidates interested inproctoring the yearly Spring and Fall YMFPE Review Course classes. The Chair willwork with the YMF Board to schedule andmanage the classes for courseregistrants.
