HOSPITAL PROFILE

Dharamshila Hospital And Research Centre (DHRC) is promoted by a NGO, the Dharamshila Cancer Foundation and Research Centre (DCFRC), which was registered as a society in 1990

under society’s registration act XXI of 1860 No. S – 20936 of 1990 by the concerned relatives and

friends of cancer patients. The hospital is registered with the Directorate Heath Services (DHS),

vide registration no. DHS/NH/144, renewed on 23.06.2014 and valid upto 31.03.2017.

Dharamshila Hospital And Research Centre (DHRC) is the first NABH accredited cancer hospital of

India since 2008, with NABL accredited laboratories, providing complete cancer care under one

roof. The hospital is built on 3.5 acres of land and has a bed capacity of 300. Out of these, 200

beds have been made operational and 100 beds can be made operational as and when required.

The hospital provides Preventive, Diagnostic, Therapeutic, Rehabilitative and Support Services to

all patients in addition to Teaching, Training and Research. DHRC has been treating patients from

all over India and neighbouring countries since 1994 and has set standards of excellence in cancer

treatment and personalized services. DHRC is an example of what can be achieved by the

Accreditation was renewed in September 2011, November 2014 and is valid till November 2017

Radiology and Imaging Services including Digital radiography, PET CT, MRI, Gamma Camera for

nuclear scans, CT scans, Mammography, Ultrasonography, Echocardiography with Color Doppler,

Bone Densitometery, CT and Ultrasound guided procedures, Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA) and

C – Arm.

Cardiopulmonary Lab performs ECGs, Holter Monitoring, TMT and Pulmonary Function tests.

Therapeutic Services Department of Radiation Therapy offers high precision radiotherapy with low and high energy

photons and electrons using CLINAC DBX and Elekta Synergy Linear Accelerators. Each patient is

offered immobilization cast or blue bag or Headfix or bodyfix. Patients are planned with CT

simulation followed by 3D conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) / Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy

(IMRT)/ Image guided radiotherapy (IGRT)/ Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy ( VMAT ) /

Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRT), Stereotactic Radio Surgery (SRS) / Active breathing control.

Precise planning (good dose to target and normal tissue sparing) is achieved through Eclipse, CMS

Xio, Monaco, Ergo++ treatment planning systems.

Electrons are also used as supplementary treatment to photons or used for superficial tumors. The

new techniques add the possibility of modulating the radiation intensity with single or multiple arcs.

In other words our radiation oncologists and physicists are able to increase Tumor Control

Probability (TCP); avoid adjacent critical structures and healthy tissues being damaged reduce

normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) and deliver safe, effective and high quality treatment.

High dose rate Brachytherapy (Microselectron with Ir-192 source) provides intracavitary

Brachytherapy for Gynaecological Carcinoma cases, Intraluminal Brachytherapy for carcinomas of

oesophagus and bronchus cases. Interstitial Brachytherapy for soft tissue sarcomas and head and

neck cancers and surface mould treatment is used in specialized situation. Individual patients are

planned on Plato Sunrise planning system with CT simulation or X-ray films.

Department of Medical Oncology manages all solid tumors of adults and children. Day care

facilities for chemotherapies (Normal and High Dose, including Dose–intense and Dose–dense;

Infusional multiple and single drug; Bolus Chemotherapies; Targeted Therapies; Immunotherapy /

Biological Therapies; Hormonal Therapies; Neutropenic Care; Nutritional Therapy; Palliative and

Terminal Supportive Care); Blood transfusion and I/V fluids etc. are available. The process for

starting stem cell transfusion has been started.

Department of Haemato-oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantations – The Department of Haemato-oncology offers comprehensive evaluation and treatment of blood disorders (Malignant

and Non Malignant). The centre is performing Autologous BMT, Allogeneic BMT with fully matched

family donor / unrelated donor, cord blood as well as half matched family donor. The 21 bedded BMT centre with BMT Research Lab and Transfusion Services at Dharamshila Hospital, Delhi is

India’s first and only world class facility for Blood and Marrow Stem Cell Transplantation for patients

without fully matched family donor.

Department of Surgical Oncology & Gynae Oncology performs the full range of routine, high risk

and emergency surgeries and endoscopies (Upper and lower G.I., Genitourinary, Laryngoscopy,

Bronchoscopy etc.) in three Operation Theatres fitted with laminar flows and hepafilters and

endoscopy suite. All patients are monitored by experienced anesthesiologists with sophisticated

monitors. Pre – operative, Post–operative wards and Surgical ICU, provide excellent post –

operative and Critical Care. The OTs are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for Anaesthesia,

Lasers, Operating Microscope, C-Arm, and all state-of-the-art endoscopies.

ICU Surgical & Medical Intensive Care Units are equipped with state-of-the-art monitoring and life

support systems for patients in critical condition, and is supported by specially trained, attentive and

efficient staff. There is provision for High dependency unit (HDU) and Isolation rooms as well within

the ICU complex area.

Allied Services Our team of specialists / super specialists from the dept. of Cardiology, Dental,

Dermatology, ENT, Endocrinology, Diabetology, Gynae & Obst, Gastroenterology, Gastro Intestinal

Surgery, General & Laparoscopic Surgery, Internal Medicine, Nephrology & Urology, Neurology &

Neuro Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pediatrics & Paed. Surgery, Plastic Surgery,

Psychiatry, Pulmonology etc. provide holistic health care to all our cancer patients.

Wards We have all category of rooms i.e. VIP Suite, VIP rooms, Super Deluxe, Deluxe, Semi

Deluxe, Single, Double, Semi Paying, Economy, Day Care and Indigent beds to cater all sections of

the society.

Department of Preventive Oncology Department conducts multiple public awareness lectures per

month. Free Cancer Screening Services are offered from Monday to Saturday in the hospital

premises and at seven other locations in Delhi.

Support Services Round the clock pharmacy and Blood Bank (state-of-the art blood cell

separators, Heraeous deep freeze centrifuge, platelet agitator and cold room storage facilities)

services are provided. There is availability of whole blood, packed red cells, frozen plasma and

single donor platelets. Prayer Room, Guest House, Cafeteria, Kitchen, Dining Hall and Laundry

Services are also available.

ACADEMICS

DHRC has been accredited by National Board of Examination for conducting DNB Programmes in

Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Pathology. DHRC also offers one

year fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology. Hospital undertakes Research Projects,

organizes National and International Conferences and various Continuous Medical Education

(CME) Programmes.

THE COURSES

The list of allied health professional courses offered in the Hospital are as follows:

All courses are recognized by the IMA.

Details of each course offered are mentioned in the Sections labeled A to C of this Prospectus.

Information common to all courses regarding rules and regulations, fee structure and application and selection procedure is given in the respective heads of Annexure I and II. Certain salient features that are common to all the courses are covered in the following paragraphs.

COMMENCEMENT

All courses commence in August 2016. The schedule for application and selection is given in Annexure – II of the prospectus.

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION The medium of instruction for all courses is English. The candidate must be able to speak, read and write English well.

In addition, knowledge of and ability to converse in Hindi is also essential, as students are required to interact with patients and their attendants.

TEACHING METHODS

A unique aspect of all these courses is the integration of academic work with structured clinical work. It involves a series of classroom lectures and discussions combined with guided practical training in the various techniques and procedures as it applies to each course. Throughout the training period, students gain practical experience by participating in routine departmental work through a series of postings in the various sections of the concerned department. The students are supervised by trained staff working in these sections. This hands-on training gives the student invaluable experience by the time the course is completed.

PRECAUTIONS

As all the courses are hospital based, they involve interaction with patients and their attendants and/or collection/processing of biological samples and/or performing procedures on patients. Hence students are expected to observe universal precautions against communicable diseases.

A. DIPLOMA IN X-RAY AND IMAGING TECHNOLOGY

What is Radiography?Radiography involves the production of images that are used to aid diagnosis and patient care. It is a rewarding profession for someone seeking to work as part of a hospital team in a scientific environment. If you enjoy caring for others and have an interest in cutting-edge technology you will find the work satisfying and enjoyable.

Brief description of the CourseThis course offers you the best of technical knowledge. In addition to classroom lectures and discussions, the course involves guided practical training in the various techniques and procedures of diagnostic imaging. This may involve the use of X-rays or other methods such as Ultrasonography (Ultrasound or U.S.G.), Mammography, Computed Tomography Scan (C.T. Scan), PET CT, MRI and Nuclear Scans. Students are trained to produce images of the highest quality while providing the necessary care for the patients.

Periodic internal examinations are conducted regularly and the performance is evaluated at the end of one year of training. Those students who fail to satisfy the evaluation committee may be detained for a period of six months.

Course Duration and ExaminationThe duration of the course is 2 years.

Learning OutcomeAt the end of the course the student will be able to Apply the knowledge acquired from this training to successfully complete clinical

assessments. Assess the condition and pathology of the patient presented for investigations in this field. Evaluate the resultant image for technical quality. Shoulder responsibility for the welfare of patients undergoing the listed investigations,

including radiation protection.

Eligibility Basic education qualification is 10+2 or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology

from a recognized University or Board of Examinations. The candidate must be 17 years old and be less than 25 years of age on the date of

commencement of the course. The candidate must be fluent in English, as the medium of instruction is English.

B. DIPLOMA IN MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY

What is Medical Laboratory Technology?Modern medical practice depends on the diagnostic clinical laboratories as much as on the physical signs and symptoms of disease in patient. The laboratory technologist is an important member of a team that cares for the patient; he/she is a health professional on whose competence and accountability depends the care of the patient. The Medical Laboratory Technology Course aims to train students in the various diagnostic laboratory techniques that are now available.

Brief description of the courseThe course is an in-service training programme. The student is provided with classroom teaching and supervised practical experience.

Periodic internal examinations are conducted regularly and the performance is evaluated at the end of one and half year of training. Those students who fail to satisfy the evaluation committee may be detained for a period of six months. Like all hospital staff, students will be exposed to patients with communicable diseases and will be processing biological samples.

The course involves hands-on training in Haematology Clinical Biochemistry Clinical Microbiology Histopathology and Cytology Immunohistochemistry Serology Clinical Pathology Blood Banking and Transfusion Service Tumour Markers Cyto Chemistry

Recognized by Indian Medical Association (I.M.A.) The course is recognized by the I.M.A. and by the D.G.H.S., Government of India. It is run in accordance with I.M.A. guidelines by Dharamshila Hospital And Research Centre, Delhi. Rules and regulations framed by I.M.A. and Dharamshila Hospital And Research Centre for the purpose will be binding on the students.

Final examinations are conducted by the I.M.A. after eighteen months of training. Successful candidates are required to undertake internship for a period of six months to complete their training.

C. DIPLOMA IN O.T. TECHNOLOGY

What is Anaesthesiology?The word `anaesthesia’ means `absence of sensation’. The aim of anaesthesia is to make the operation site insensitive and adequately relaxed to protect the patient from harmful reflexes, so that an operation can be performed safely and without pain and undesirable shock. This branch of medical science has come to the forefront of development with the advent of modern anaesthesia machines and monitoring equipment. Anaesthesiologists undertake patient care for very advanced surgeries on very sick patients – the age group ranging from the premature newborn to the old. This requires skilled anaesthesia and post-operative care.

Brief Description of the course Whenever any procedures are performed under anaesthesia, patients require continuous monitoring and care. This involves the use of modern equipment that can only be operated with the help of well-trained and competent anaesthesia technicians. The course is designed to train students in the various skills that are expected in an anaesthesia technician.

Students should be willing to carry out work assigned to them as the situation demands. This may include training during emergency hours under the supervision of anesthesiologists and senior technicians.

Aims The aim of this course is to produce trained personnel to assist the anesthesiologists in various modalities of patient care whenever any procedure is performed under anaesthesia inside the operation theatre or outside, including intensive care units.

Learning OutcomeUpon successful completion of the course, students will be able to Independently set-up or operate equipment used in administering anaesthesia or monitoring

patients who are under the influence of anaesthesia. Assist anesthesiologists in the set-up or use of various types of equipment used in the

operation theatre, recovery room and intensive care unit. Assist surgeon for setting up various equipment in operation theatre for use in different

surgeries. Set up theatres for endoscopies and other diagnostic procedures.

RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR ALL STUDENTSThe following rules and regulations are to be strictly adhered to by all students at the hospital. Misconduct in any form may result in strict disciplinary action, including expulsion.

Academic Requirements While students will be encouraged to complete their training, those failing in term tests

(Orientation, Annual/Semester) may be asked to discontinue. Students will be required to purchase books etc. from designated sources, on payment of

the cost.

Departmental Postings During the course, the students are expected to perform all work assigned to them by the

supervisor of the section and follow the rules, regulations NABH, NABL standards and ISO systems for Quality and Environment Management Systems of their respective departments. In particular, they are to adhere to the timings of their respective departments.

The students are not allowed to leave their assigned areas of duty without prior permission from the Head of the Department.

Following the usual hospital working schedules the students may be assigned evening/night shift duties.

Students are not authorized to communicate any information or deliver any document, which forms a part of a patient’s record to anyone other than their supervisors.

Attendance record will be kept on a day-to-day basis by the concerned departments. Attendance of 80% is mandatory to appear for the annual/semester examinations.

Dress Code Students should dress modestly while on duty and maintain personal cleanliness and

Leave Rules All leaves will be sanctioned by the concerned Head of the Department Medical leave can only be granted by the hospital staff physician and the student is to get

this ratified by the concerned Head of the Department Students are eligible for 2 weeks Annual Leave and 1 week Sick Leave per full year of the

course (including the period of compulsory internship). For any course whose duration exceeds a full year or a multiple thereof by certain months, leave entitlement will be calculated proportionately.

Unauthorized absence of more than 7 days will be treated as discontinuation of the course.

Miscellaneous Students are expected to be familiar with and observe universal precautions against

communicable diseases. Students are not allowed to take up or continue any other academic courses or training

during their training period in this Hospital. Students are required to complete clearance formalities upon completion or discontinuation

of the course. Rules and regulations framed by Dharamshila Hospital And Research Centre and the

concerned departments conducting the courses shall be binding on the students. General rules of conduct shall be binding on the students.

Changes/Additions to Rules and RegulationsThese Rules and Regulations may be changed by the Hospital at any time without notice and the same shall be communicated to the students.

FEE STRUCTURE

Amount - Course-wise details of Fees that are required to be paid by each selected candidate is given in Annexure-I of the Prospectus.

Last Date For Payment Of Fees - Selected candidates are required to pay the requisite amount of fees on or before the last date for payment of fees as given in Annexure-II of the Prospectus. Those failing to do so may forfeit the admission to the course for which they were selected.

Fee Receipts - Candidates are strongly advised to retain all receipts of fees paid and produce them at the time of admission. These may need to be produced on more than one occasion to fulfill necessary formalities.

Revision - Requirement and Examination fees are subject to change without notice by the organization conducting the courses at any stage of the course. Candidates will have to bear any such enhancement in fees.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCEDURE

Application Procedure

To apply for any of the courses, use the Application Form that is enclosed with this Prospectus as Annexure-III.

The schedule for application is given in Annexure-II of the Prospectus. This must be strictly adhered to. Applications that are received after the last date for submission will be rejected.

You can apply for a maximum of 3 courses using a single Application Form.

The Application Form should be supported by attested photocopies of all relevant mark-sheets and certificates. (If called for interview, the corresponding original documents need to be produced)

Candidates are required to affix a recent copy of their passport size photograph on the Application Form and include another copy of the same photograph with their name written on the reverse. Candidates are advised, in their own interest, not to significantly change their appearance from what appears in the photograph.

For sponsored candidates, the Sponsorship Letter from the sponsoring bodies must reach “The Director, Dharamshila Hospital And Research Centre, Dharamshila Marg, Vasundhara Enclave, Delhi–110 096”. Before or on the last date as mentioned in Annexure-II.

Mere submission/acceptance of the Application Form or issue of the call Letter/Admit Card for the interview does not imply the candidate is eligible to apply for any course. It will be the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that he/she fulfils the eligibility criteria for each course that he/she wishes to apply for.

Applications incomplete in any respect or not supported by photocopies of relevant documents will be rejected.

5. Attested photocopies of mark-sheet and, if available. Certificate of 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized University or Board of Examination.

Letter from the Principal of the School attended by the candidate for 10+2 or equivalent studies, stating that the Board/University that the School is affiliated to, for the conduct of the 10+2 or equivalent examination, is recognized by the Department of Education or the University Grants Commission, respectively.

7. Any other certificates.

Selection procedureSelection of candidates is based upon, marks obtained in the qualifying examination - Interview and Medical Examination.

InterviewCandidates will be informed the date and time of interview.

All relevant mark-sheets and certificates need to be produced in original at the time of interview.

The list of candidates selected for the courses will be displayed on the Hospital Notice Board.

Medical ExaminationCandidates who are selected for any course through the interviews will be required to undergo a medical examination in Dharamshila Hospital And Research Centre, Delhi. Those found to be medically unfit would not be admitted to any course of study.

A nominal amount as specified in Annexure-II is to be paid by candidates for the Medical Examination. This is to be paid on the date of commencement of the Medical Examination. If the Staff Physician, on examining the reports of the Medical Examination or on the basis of Physical Examination, recommends any further investigation(s), the same will be charged at the prevailing hospital rates at Dharamshila Hospital And Research Centre for that (those) investigation(s).

The decision of the Selection Committee will be final in all matters pertaining to selection.

Payment of FeesAll selected candidates who are found to be medically fit are required to pay the requisite fees on or before the last date as prescribed for the purpose in Annexure-II.

CommunicationsAny communication to the candidates will be posted on the Hospital Notice Board on the day of the written test or any day thereafter till the commencement of the courses. The instructions contained therein must be strictly followed. Changes to the schedule of selection, if any, will be communicated only by means of such notices.
