NPS cannabis updatenPS MedicineWise has today

Written by the University of Sydney’s Dr Bridin Murnion, the article describes the therapeutic use of cannabinoids, as well as the ongoing debate and evolving legislative landscape.

SA pharmacist honouredADELAiDE

pharmacist Scott McGregor, former Branch Committee member of the Pharmacy Guild’s South Australian branch, has been awarded the Barry Schultz medal for 2015, with the gong accorded to a pharmacist deemed to have demonstrated the qualities that made the late Barry Schultz such a distinguished pharmacist and community member.

McGregor’s career achievements were highlighted by the Guild’s SA branch director, Michael Robertson, including being managing director of the Chemplus Group as well as many years of service to the Pharmacy Guild.

The medal was presented at the opening ceremony for the Guild’s new South Australian premises by Minister for Health Sussan Ley, who’s pictured with McGregor and Guild South Australian branch president Nick Panayiaris.

Guild joins “Decembeard”

campaignThe The Guild has encouraged

members to help support this month’s “Decembeard”, a month-long awareness campaign that raises much needed funds to fight against bowel cancer.

Now in its third year, Decembeard encourages men to grow a beard in the final month of the year and raise funds for Bowel Cancer Australia to help save lives from Australia’s second biggest cancer killer.

Women and children are also encouraged to take part in Decembeard Australia by making, baking or faking a beard.

Bowel Cancer Australia’s vision is to reduce incidence, death and suffering associated with bowel cancer through advocacy, awareness, education, support and research.

nO mAn is too big for a condom.A social media trend originally

designed to promote safe sex demonstrates that condoms can adapt to any size head, literally, but there’s a dark side.

The #condomchallenge involves filling a condom with water creating a large water balloon, tying it off and dropping it onto the head of a willing individual, who is usually pictured sitting on the edge of a bath.

The result is a comic bubble of condom around the head of the volunteer (pictured below), who nevertheless faces the risk of suffocation under the rubber pressing on their face.

HERE’S a good example of healthy ageing - but we’re not too sure about the potential effects on this 82-year-old’s hearing.

Brian Hawkins from Oakura in NZ has bought four tickets to an upcoming AC/DC concert in Wellington - and he’s taking his daughters and a grandson along.

The octogenarian rocker said it had always been his dream to see Australia’s loudest band again, after becoming a fan in the 1970s and going to a concert in England in the 1990s.

His musical tastes also extend to other rock bands, with Hawkins telling the Dominion Post he went to see Kiss in Auckland with his grandson in October.
