Dear student,
This short guide explains how to access your Italian language course online with ICoN1.
Log-in the system and log-out
You can access the ICoN system by clicking the “AREA PERSONALE ICON” button that
you find in all ICoN websites:

Enter your username and password, then click the “Avanti” button.

Your personal area will be displayed.
To log-out the system, click the down-arrow next to your name and click “Esci” in the
drop-down menu.
The information pages such as the guide or the information about your privacy will be
always available for consultation.
The personal area
ICoN personal area is an environment that can be accessed only by those users who have
registered their account with ICoN.
In your personal area you can edit your personal details by clicking your name in the top
right corner of the page, then “I tuoi dati”, and you can access the courses you are
enrolled in; you can do several actions depending on the educational area: i. e. you can
enroll ICoN University Degree in Italian Language and Culture, or check the status of your
payments.
In your personal area you’ll find all the educational initiatives you are enrolled in.
Use the links to go to the learning platform and enter the virtual classroom of your course.

The learning platform and the course
Once you are in the platform, click again the title of the course to display the welcome
page:

In the welcome page you can watch the video tutorials stored in the “Inizia da Primi passi”
section, you can access the class Forum, open the map of the course (“Course map”) and
use “Index” in the bottom left corner of the screen to navigate the course.
Remember that you can always switch your language to “English” in the drop-down menu
in the top of the screen.
Start from First steps – the video tutorials about the course
Once you are in your course/classroom, first of all click the “Start from First steps” button
to watch the videos that explain how to navigate the course, do the activities with
automated correction etc.:
Your classroom
If you want to know who has been enrolled your course, click the “Open” button that you
find in “Your class” bar in the welcome page to display the names of your Tutor and those
of your course-mates:

The Forum
In the welcome page, click the “Enter forum” button to enter the forum, where you can
communicate with your tutor and your course-mates:
Click the “Add a new discussion topic” button to post a topic and start a new thread, or
click one of the other posts in the Forum to reply:

Please note that you can’t know what your course-mates are doing in the course (i. e.
which online activities they have performed etc.): you can know what you are doing in the
course. Anyway you can use the Forum to your questions on the course, the Italian
language etc.
Your tutor and your course-mates will read your posts!
Your tutor will use the Forum to post more activities to learn Italian in addition to those
with automatic correction, to answer your questions, post new discussion threads, advice
about the virtual classes where you’ll speak in Italian etc.
The Map of the course
The Map located in the panel at the left of the page, is a very useful tool: it allows you to
know how much you have done of the course (percentage) and it can be used to move in
the course too by clicking/tapping the buttons to go deeper and deeper in the course
structure.
Click or tap “Course map” to display the full map of the course:

Click the buttons to navigate the course more in depth. Click on the blue titles of the several
sections of the course to go to Modules, Units or Sessions directly.
Moreover the map gives you a graphic representation of what you do in the course, both
in the bars and in the pie chart with the percentage of completion of the course:
The bars will be colored as you complete the Activities and Sessions of the course,
until the entire Units are colored.
The percentage value in the pie chart will increase as you carry out the activities of
the course.
The Index of the course
Click “Indice” in the bottom right corner of the screen to expand the index of the course;
display all the sections by clicking on the arrows:
You can use the index or the map of the course to move easily from one point of the
course to another, fast, and do the Activities with automatic correction that you find in all
the Sessions.
Or you can use the blue buttons in the top and the bottom of the page to navigate the
course in sequence.

Let ‘see each section in detail:
The Unit:
All the Units includes three blocks with: the communication goals, the typology of texts
that you will find in the Activities and the Italian language structures you’ll study in the
Sessions of the Unit.
The Session:

All the Sessions display some instructions about how to do the Activity, located in the
yellow bar.
Some Sessions of the course include the “Schede di approfondimento” (“Grammar and
vocabulary study files”) in variable number:

Click the file you want to open to read it. These files will help to learn Italian grammar and
vocabulary through some animated explanations.
All these study files are stored in the last entry of the index of the course.
The Activities:
Click the Activity in the yellow bar to access it; all the Activities of the course includes a
minimum number of five exercises up to seven.
Click the blue button to go to the exercises. Watch the corresponding video tutorial in the
“Start from First steps” section to know how to do each typology of exercise.
Click the “Forward” button to navigate to the next exercise.
Some exercises display a green button, that is the virtual keyboard with the special
characters of Italian. This button is displayed in the exercises that ask you to write in a
text-box; you can switch it off, if you don’t want to use it.
To check your answer, click the “Check answers” button: the correct answers will appear
in green, the wrong answers will appear in red; yellow is the color of those questions you
don’t answer.

After the last exercises of the Activity, click the “Concludi” button, then other blue buttons
to confirm that you are delivering the Activity for the assessment (you need to do that
twice to confirm):
