Found faithful. That has been the simple desire of this movement called the Evangelical Covenant Church since our founding in 1885. In this past year we have identified five mission priorities. To-gether, we start and strengthen churches; make and deepen disciples; develop leaders; love mercy-do justice; and serve globally. It is to these five things that we seek to be found faithful in following the heart of God into the world.

This year our focus will be “Found Faithful: Serving Globally.” We will celebrate what God is doing in close to forty countries through a growing missionary team, national churches, and international partnerships. We will also introduce a major new partnership with our friends at World Vision for the children of Congo.

At its core, the Annual Meeting is about shaping the mission we are in together. Every congregation is entitled to representation as we worship God, celebrate what God has done, discern future direction, select leaders, consecrate missionaries, credential and ordain clergy, encourage one another to greater discipleship, make commitments to funding the mission, and hear about the challenges and opportuni-

ties in front of us. In it all, we get to meet new friends and strengthen old relationships.

There are few places like the Annual Meeting to fully comprehend the scope of who we are and what we do. And so join with churches from all over the United States and Canada—large, medium, and small in size; stylistically, ethnically and linguistically diverse; led by women, led by men—a rich mosaic bound together by an abiding desire to live with God and for God.

Please join us June 21-24 in Irvine, California. Bring others. Bring your family. Help us to indeed be found faithful.

What is the Annual Meeting? The Annual Meeting is the highest legislative body of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), made up of representatives from Covenant churches throughout the United States and Canada. Delegates gather together for worship and fellowship, and to ordain minis-ters, consecrate missionaries, elect leaders, review finances, adopt a budget, and address the business of the church.

Can I attend if I’m not a delegate? Yes. General conferees, retired Covenant pastors, missionaries, and North Park Theological Seminary (NPTS) and Centro de Hispano de Estudios Teologicos (CHET) students may attend the Annual Meeting without officially representing a local church or institution. General conferees are provided with handouts at the Annual Meeting, as well as designated seating; however, they are not permitted to voice their opinions, ask questions, or vote. Everyone is welcome to participate in the worship sessions.

Curt PetersonTHURSDAY EVENING

Curt Peterson has served as executive minister of world mission of the Evangelical Covenant Church since 2003. In this role he oversees administration, pastoral support, strategic di-rection, and training for Covenant missionar-ies serving in 27 countries. Peterson interacts regularly with national church leaders in these countries in order to facilitate effective part-nerships in evangelism and church planting, pastoral education and leadership training, and transformational development.

Previously, Peterson served as senior pastor for twenty three years at Montecito Cov-enant Church in Santa Barbara, California. He planted two Covenant churches in the St. Louis area—Christ Covenant in Florissant, and Community Covenant in Kirkwood. He also served as chair of the Executive Board of the Evangelical Covenant Church, and chair of the Executive Board of the Pacific Southwest Conference.

Peterson received his bachelor of arts in philosophy from UCLA, a master of divin-ity from Fuller Theological Seminary, and completed orientation studies at North Park Theological Seminary in 1973. He was ordained in the Covenant in 1974.

He and his wife, Martie, have three married sons: Erik, Nils, and Jonathan, and six grandchildren.

Bob ShimFRIDAY MORNING

Bob Shim was commissioned as a project mis-sionary along with his wife, Grace, in 2003. In 2009 they were consecrated as long-term missionaries by the Department of World Mission of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

Bob’s family left post-war Korea and moved to South America when he was five. Born into a generation of predominantly Confu-cian and Buddhist traditions, he began attending a Korean immigrant church in Brazil. After hearing missionaries speak at church, he made a commitment to be a mis-sionary when he was eight years old.

Now serving in Thailand, Bob and his wife, Grace, focus on extending the kingdom of God through holistic ministry. They creatively seek to meet the spiritual, social, and physical needs of the rural poor. They then utilize these opportunities to build relationships and provide resources for small communities. Bob focuses on medical care, public health education, microenterprise development, and sustainable development.

Bob received his bachelor of arts in biology from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, his master of divinity from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and completed his internal medicine residency at North-western University in Evanston, Illinois.

He and his wife, Grace, have three children: Kara, Amanda, and David.

Labib MadanatFRIDAY EVENING

Labib Madanat is the coordinator for Israeli and Palestinian Bible Societies, national offices of the United Bible Societies.

In addition to the core ministry of Bible translation and distribution, the Israeli and Palestinian Bible Societies also host community development projects, and engage holistically in serving the needs of local communities.

Madanat was born in Jerusalem to a Jordanian couple who were ministering there together with the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. The family moved back to Jordan in 1977. Four years later, at the time of the Iran-Iraq War, Madanat joined the College of Agriculture at Mosul University. Observing the violent conflict among Muslims broke his heart and stirred in him a burden for them.

In 1989 Madanat went to the Jordan Univer-sity in Amman to work toward a master of science in soils and irrigation.

Upon returning to Jerusalem, he lived in the Jewish part of town where his national enemy was his neighbor. He learned Hebrew and began to practice it by talking to soldiers about Jesus.

Madanat served as the founding executive director of the Palestinian Bible Society, from 1993 to 2007.

He and his wife, Carolyn, have four children: Matthew, Katie, Rami, and Jad.

Grace ShimSATURDAY MORNING

Grace Shim and her husband, Bob, were commissioned as project missionaries by the Evangelical Covenant Church in 2003. They were consecrated as long-term missionaries in 2009.

During college, Grace attended a confer-ence for Korean leaders where her eyes were opened to the world’s need for the gospel. Through Urbana conferences and a short-term trip to China, she committed to serving God through international missions.

She earned her bachelor of arts in math education from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virgina and a master of arts in counsel-ing psychology from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois.

The Shim family first moved to Central Asia in 2003 where they worked to reveal the gospel among Muslims for six years. Now serving in Thailand, Grace uses her counseling skills to bring healing to those around her, including missionaries, as well as training Thai counselors.

Grace and Bob have three children: Kara, Amanda, and David.

Gary GaddiniSATURDAY EVENING

Gary Gaddini serves as lead pastor of Pen-insula Covenant Church in Redwood City, California, a position he has held since 2003. Before transitioning into this role, he worked for twenty-one years in student and family ministries.

Gaddini earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Sacramento State University, where he became a Christian during his freshman year. After college he served as a chaplain to the UCLA Athletic Department with Athletes in Action. In 1990, he moved back to northern California to serve as the pastor of youth and evange-lism at Marin Covenant Church in San Rafael, California. Gaddini earned his master of divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois, in 1997.

Gaddini and his wife, Anne, have been married for twenty-one years and have four daughters: Hannah, Mary Courtney, Eliza-beth, and Isabella.

Gaddini’s hobbies include running trails in western San Mateo County, enjoying time with good friends, reading, playing, and do-ing anything with his family.

Linnea CarnesSUNDAY MORNING

Linnea Carnes has been the pastor of Im-manuel Evangelical Covenant Church in Chicago since 1999. During her ministry, the congregation has transformed into its current multiethnic composition, represent-ing fourteen nationalities—a reflection of the church’s local community and context.

Carnes previously served as pastor at First Evangelical Covenant Church in Denver and at Covenant Congregational Church in Rhode Island. She has also held a variety of staff positions at several churches.

She earned a bachelor of music education from the University of Kansas, a master of divinity from Denver Seminary, and a doctor of ministry in preaching from North Park Theological Seminary. Her doctoral thesis was entitled “One Voice Among Many: Preaching in a Multiethnic Congregation,” a subject that emerged from her pastoral experience. Carnes was ordained in the Evangelical Covenant Church in 1993.

Carnes has held a variety of staff positions at a number of churches since 1966.
