GOD APPOINTED JUDGES TO LEAD THE TRIBES OF
ISRAEL
JUDGES OF ISRAEL
NOT government officials but rather
CHARISMATIC MEN and WOMAN who
were acclaimed for their wisdom and
leadership.
They unified the people, got them to
repent, dealt with the spiritual
problems of the nation, and also dealt
with the physical threat.
JUDGES OF ANCIENT ISRAEL
1. OTHNIEL- Helped Israel
defeat King Cushan-
Rishathaim of Northern Syria
and brought Israel forty years
of peace.
JUDGES OF ANCIENT ISRAEL
2. EHUD- killed King Eglon of
Moab and defeated the
Moabites, who had joined
with the Amalekites to attack
Israel.
JUDGES OF ANCIENT ISRAEL
3. SHAMGAR- Rescued
Israel by killing 600
Philistines.
JUDGES OF ANCIENT ISRAEL
4. DEBORAH- Defeated the
army of Canaanite King Jabin
of Hazor and his commander
Sisera
JUDGES OF ANCIENT ISRAEL
5. GIDEON- built an altar for
worshipping the Lord and pulled down
the altar where his father had
worshipped the Canaanite god, Baal.
Defeated the Midianites who had joined
with the Amalekites to steal Israel’s
livestock and crops. Honored the Lord
by refusing to be made King.

rescued Israel, but gives very
little information about this

say he had 30 sons, each one
in charge of a town in Gilead.

Ammonites who had invaded
Gilead. Battled the army of
the Israelite tribe of Ephraim.

accomplishments, but it does
say he had 30 daughters and
30 sons

on the Philistine leaders and

No one is exempted from serving
God.
Serve God even if one feels
insignificant.
Serve God with the blessings you
have.
Serve God with courage and desire.
Even ordinary men or women can be
heroes or heroines.
