The Anchor InnNestling in the heart of the beautiful Sussex
countryside, overlooking the river Ouse, The Anchor
Inn offers an idyllic location for a perfect wedding.
Here at the Anchor Inn we will never sell you a
‘Wedding Package’ – we pride ourselves on tailoring
each and every wedding to a couples unique
individual requirements..
Whether you decide to get married in our pretty
ceremony room, have a blessing in the grounds or just
host your reception in our stunning marquee you can
be assured of a well run and memorable day.
The Anchor Inn, set in one of the loveliest unspoiled
parts of rural East Sussex, was built in 1790’s to cater
to horse drawn barges travelling from Slaugham to
the coast at Newhaven.
Boating is still a popular past time here at The
Anchor, and we have enough powder blue rowing
boats to enable 150 people to enjoy the river making
for some great and unusual wedding photographs.
The premises have been approved by East Sussex Council
for the solemnization of marriages in persuance of
section 26(1)(bb) of the Marriage Act 1949.
The quaintly rustic ceremony room holds up to 35 guests
and can be decorated to suit your taste. Blessings or your
own personal vows can be arranged anywhere in front of
a larger audience in the beautiful grounds.
Wedding ceremonies may only be held in the room
designated by the council, this being the Longford Room.
Booking and payment of the registrar must be dealt with
direct.
The Longford room offers a separate entrance from the
car park, enabling you to arrive without the need to pass
through the main bar area of the pub.
The Marquee
Our beautiful marquee sits alongside the river and
comes with its own reserved area of decking for you and
your guests to enjoy. It seats between 50 to 160 guests
with room for a further 100 or so evening guests.
The marquee (which measures 80ft x 40ft) is heated,
hard floored and carpeted and fully lined with cream
satin drapes. It comes with dimmable wrought iron
chandeliers, event lighting, ample power points and
parquet dance floor.
A fully staffed and stocked bar is available within the
marquee, offering your choice of draught beers, wines
and spirits, all at pub prices.
The marquee is available a few days before the wedding
so that couples can stamp their own personal touch in
the way of decorations, flowers candles and lighting etc
can also be used on the decking area.
The 5ft diameter tables can seat between 6-10 guests and
are dressed in white linen table cloths. The silver and
navy blue bistro chairs compliment the overall colour
scheme, or can be dressed in hired in chair covers.
The AccommodationWe offer a pretty riverside chalet set in its own
private decking on the riverbank, sleeping 4-5 people
and finished to a high standard it makes a perfect
self contained hideaway to get ready with your
bridesmaids or retire to at the end of the day.
Your guests are also able to camp in the large
adjoining field, alleviating the need for late night
transport and offering them the opportunity of a
countryside weekend away.
Just imagine sitting on straw bales around a real
campfire listening to music or reminiscing about the
day – a truly unique and memorable finish to your
wedding reception.
The Catering

priced to your specific requirements.
Our in house catering team can cater for all your menu choices, from full A la Carte 3 course
sit down meal, hot or cold buffet or barbecue.
Undoubtedly our most popular choice is our famous Hog Roast, lovingly and slowly cooked in
front of your guests over a real charcoal fire, it makes for a succulent meal and a great talking
point.

General Information
Viewing Appointments:
Please contact us on 01273 400414 to arrange an informal meeting at your convenience.
Booking Procedure:
Once you have decided to spend your big day at The Anchor Inn, please confirm in writing with the agreed
deposit and we can book the day for you in the calendar.
Deposit:
A £500 deposit is required with your confirmation. If, for any reason, it becomes necessary for you to cancel
the booking this deposit is non-refundable. In certain circumstances we may transfer the deposit to an
alternative date.
Balance:
An invoice will be sent to you after you have confirmed your estimated numbers two months prior to the
wedding date for part payment (approximately fifty percent of the final cost), and the final invoice will be sent
no later than two weeks prior, on receipt of final numbers and menu choices.

How to find us
From London, join the A275, East Grinstead to Lewes Road, and approximately 1/2 mile after passing the Five
Bells at Chailey, turn left at the signpost for Barcombe, there after taking the second right then first left (both
also signposted Barcombe).
At Barcombe Village, proceed down the road signposted Spithurst, Newick, turn first right at Boast Lane
leading to Anchor Lane, marked with a ‘no through road’ sign, then bear left (by post box) and bear right
after further 1/4 mile. Continue 1 mile to The Anchor.
From Brighton & Hove and the South West, take A27, turn on to A275 at Lewes, following signs for East
Grinstead.
Half a mile past Cooksbridge level crossing bear right at The Rainbow Inn, then signposted to Barcombe. At
Barcombe village proceed as above.
From Eastbourne, Hastings and the South East, take A27 and A259 to Lewes, then take A26, following signs
for TunbridgeWells. After three miles turn left at signpost to Barcombe. Drive on to Barcombe and proceed
as above.
