Boeing and EVA Air sign deal for up to 24 787-10 Dreamliners and two 777-300ERs

Boeing and EvA Airways have finalized an order for up to 24 787-10 Dreamliners and two 777-300ER (Extended Range) jetliners. The order, val-ued at more than US$8bn at current list prices,

marks the largest single commercial airplane purchase in Taiwan aviation. EvA Airways be-comes the newest Dreamliner customer and will join the 787-10 launch customer team as one of the first airlines in the world to introduce the newest member of the 787 Dreamliner family.

for example, some 1,400 local jobs were created, the statement reads.

What’s more, JetBlue added high-paying jobs and drove down aver-age airfares 40% for consumers in the monopolised Boston to Detroit city-pair market when its partner Emirates initiated service to Boston in 2014 and provided the necessary passenger feed to enable JetBlue to contest the market. Had Norwegian Air International’s application been approved some 19 months ago to serve the U.S., thousands of

jobs and new consumer choices would have materialised by now, the BTC suggests.

Importantly, the entry of foreign carriers into U.S. markets supports President Obama’s national policy goals of (a) growing annual foreign visitors from 74 million today to 100 million by 2021 and (b) generating the tens of thousands of new jobs necessary to serve the additional visitors.

CFM LEAP-1A achieves joint EASA / FAA certification

CFm is the only engine manufacturer to gain dual original certification from both EASA and FAA, rather one lead agency issuing a type certification and the second agency validating that certi-fication. This reflects CFm’s dual design and production structure which has been so successful for more than 40 years. The LEAP-1A flew for the first time on the Airbus A320neo on may 19th, 2015. A second aircraft was added to the test program in September and, to date, the two air-planes have logged a combined total of more than 140 flights and 360 hours of flight testing.

Austrian Airlines to sells entire Fokker fleet to Alliance Aviation of Australia

Austrian Airlines has concluded an agreement with the Australian leading provider of fly-in, fly-out transportation, Alliance Aviation Services, to sell its entire fleet of Fokker aircraft. The Austrian Airlines’ Fokker fleet consists of 15 Fokker 100 and six Fokker 70 planes, a total of 21 aircraft. The sale of the Fokker aircraft will rejuvenate the medium haul fleet of Austrian Airlines. The Fok-ker aircraft will be replaced step by step as of Jan-uary 2016 by nearly-new Embraer 195 jets. The purchase price for the Fokker aircraft is US$15m and will comprise an issue of new shares in Alli-ance and a cash component. Austrian Airlines will gradually terminate its use of the Fokker jets and deliver them to Alliance Aviation in the period December 2015 to December 2017. Deployment of the Embraer aircraft will take place simultane-ously. The Embraer jets currently have an average age of four years (built 2009-2012), compared to the average age of about 21 years of the Fokker fleet. “The replacement of the Fokker fleet with Embraer aircraft will serve to significantly rejuve-nate our fleet and offer Austrian Airlines better unit costs”, explained Austrian Airlines CEO Kay Kratky. Rolls-Royce announces Trent service network changes and new agreements with Approved Maintenance Centre joint ventures

Rolls-Royce has announced changes to three Approved maintenance Centre joint ventures, simplifying the structure of two, and introducing a more competitive business model that will im-prove customer service. Approved maintenance Centres (AmCs) support Rolls-Royce’s strategy to develop a competitive, capable and flexible Trent Service Network to meet the changing needs of customers across the lifecycle of engines and to support the growing Trent engine fleet. The changes relate to three existing AmC joint ven-tures: Hong Kong Aero Engine Services Limited (“HAESL”), Singapore Aero Engine Services Pte Ltd (“SAESL”) and N3 Engine Overhaul Services GmbH and Co. KG (“N3”). HAESL is currently a joint venture with Hong Kong Aircraft Engineer-ing Company Limited and SIA Engineering Com-pany Limited; SAESL is currently a joint venture with SIA Engineering Company Limited and Hong Kong Aero Engine Services Limited; and N3 a joint venture with Lufthansa Technik AG.These joint ventures will now operate under a

new business model where the existing geo-graphic territory-based arrangements used by Rolls-Royce to direct maintenance, repair and overhaul (mRO) work to each AmC will be re-placed with a competitive model where each AmC will need to compete to secure their Trent TotalCare engine overhauls. Rolls-Royce believes that this competitive model will encourage greater capability and flexibility across the Trent Service Network. The AmCs are also able to compete globally for mRO services under “time and material” business terms. These new agree-ments will also simplify the shareholding struc-ture and management of HAESL and SAESL with each becoming 50/50 joint ventures with two shareholders (from three today). To support this change Rolls-Royce will increase its equity stake in HAESL and SAESL to 50% in return for an in-cremental investment of US$206.5m. The trans-actions are subject to certain closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. The sharehold-ing arrangements with Lufthansa Technik AG for N3 remain unchanged at 50/50 ownership. These changes to create a competitive, capable and flexible Trent Service Network complement the recent announcement that Delta TechOps will be joining the Trent Service Network as an independent AmC. Additional AmCs to further enhance the Trent Service Network will be an-nounced at the appropriate time.

MTU Aero Engines issues more precise ten-year forecast

On the occasion of the company’s annual Inves-tor & Analyst Day, mTU Aero Engines AG has issued a more precise forecast for the next ten years to 2025. The group intends to maintain its growth trajectory and achieve further improve-ments in profitability. In the medium-to-long term, adjusted EBIT is expected to increase at a faster rate than revenues, with a correspond-ing increase in adjusted net income. These projections are based on mTU’s existing busi-ness plans, which foresee an investment phase lasting until 2017, followed by a consolidation phase from 2018 onward. They reflect the ex-pected development of revenues in the indi-vidual operating segments. As of 2018, mTU expects to see a surge in rev-enues from its most profitable activities, name-ly spare part sales and maintenance services. Revenues from the series production of engine components, which generates lower profit mar-gins, are also expected to rise – based on the assumption that the increased production of the Airbus A320neo will result in growth rates for the PW1100G-Jm engine, which are higher than previously anticipated. Weaker revenues are expected in the military engine business. “Overall, this product mix will enable us to increase our EBIT margins in the medium to long term,” said mTU Aero Engines CEO Reiner Winkler. “As a result, we can expect our ad-justed net income to rise in line with operat-ing profit.” Chief Operating Officer Dr Rainer martens added: “Once we have reached the end of the current investment phase, in which we have been focusing on the construction of new facilities and their equipment with plant and machinery to prepare for the production phase of the geared turbofan (GTF) programs, our capital expenditure will return to normal levels. The same applies to our R&D expendi-ture, which will also gradually return to normal levels around 2018. The main focus will be on

the ongoing improvement of GTF technology.” This will significantly improve the group’s free cash flow, which in the longer term will closely match adjusted net income.

ATR, the turboprop manufacturer, has opened a Representative Office in Beijing, a new milestone in its long history of cooperation with China. For nearly 20 years China has been a strategic part-ner and supplier for ATR. Key airframe sections and some components of the wings of ATR air-craft are produced by Xian Aircraft Company (XAC), a subsidiary of AVIC. The establishment of the Representative Office in Beijing enables ATR to further develop and strengthen depend-able relationships with Chinese partners, poten-tial customers and Chinese authorities. The new ATR Office is located at the Tianzhu Airport. The growing ATR team in Beijing, led by vP Sales Chi-na & Chief Representative Wang Qi, will benefit from Airbus’ working platform and experience in China to develop and consolidate ATR’s footprint across the country.

United has reached an Agreement in Principle with the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) for a contract extension covering the airline’s more than 12,000 pilots more than a year ahead of the amendable date of the current contract. The agreement is subject to a ratification pro-cess which includes final documentation, re-view, and consideration by the ALPA master Executive Council.

JetBlue has become the launch customer for Airbus’ “maintenance mobility” offering, follow-ing a contract signed with Airbus. maintenance mobility allows the airline mechanics to have all the technical information they need on iPads. maintenance mobility is one of several services in the Smarter Fleet cloud-based services platform developed by Airbus in partnership with IBM. The agreement with JetBlue covers the integration of the maintenance mobility services into the airline’s maintenance information system (mIS), as well as the software and data hosting over a five-year servicing period. The deployment will be accomplished step-by-step with Airbus experts working on-site with JetBlue in order to spread the integration and manage change gradually. For mechanics it enables them to access information needed to perform the turnaround, such as task cards or real-time access to aircraft maintenance messages. It also includes an e-Doc browser for access to the Aircraft maintenance manual (Amm), Illustrated Parts Catalogue (IPC) or mini-mum Equipment List (mEL) from a mobile device.

Spirit begins production of the Royal Aus-tralian Air Force’s first P-8A

Spirit AeroSystems has begun production of the Royal Australian Air Force’s (RAAF) first produc-tion P-8A aircraft. Spirit started production on the 737 military derivative in October. With major assembly now underway, the first unit is scheduled to deliver to Boeing in early 2016. The P-8A program is using a first-in-industry produc-tion process and its existing Next-Generation 737 production system to efficiently design and build P-8 aircraft. Spirit is responsible for build-ing 70% of the 737 aircraft. The 737-800 fuselage receives military-specific in-line modifications before it is sent to Boeing’s final assembly facil-ity in Renton, Wash., where all aircraft structural features unique to the P-8A are incorporated in sequence during fabrication and assembly. Aus-tralia has agreed to purchase eight P-8A aircraft.

ARINC multiLink is de-signed to support flexible position reporting fre-quency, enabling it to provide position reports at least every 15 minutes for flight operations in oceanic and other remote areas. Airlines can also receive notifications when an aircraft has unexpectedly stopped reporting positional data or when the aircraft has deviated from its ex-pected path.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released its updated passenger growth forecast, projecting that passenger numbers are expected to reach 7 billion by 2034 with a 3.8% average annual growth in demand (2014 base-line year). That is more than double the 3.3 bil-lion who flew in 2014 and exactly twice as many as the 3.5 billion expected in 2015. Previously, IATA forecast 7.4 billion passengers in 2034 based on a 4.1% average annual growth rate. The revised result reflects negative develop-ments in the global economy that are expected to dampen demand for air transport, especially slower economic growth projections for China. The five fastest-increasing markets in terms of additional passengers per year over the forecast period will be China (758 million new passengers for a total of 1.196 billion), the US (523 million new passengers for a total of 1.156 billion), India (275 million new passengers for a total of 378 million), Indonesia (132 million new passengers for a total of 219 million) and Brazil (104 million new passengers for a total of 202 million). Seven of the ten fastest-growing markets in percentage terms will be in Africa. The top ten will be: mala-wi, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Central African Repub-lic, Serbia, Tanzania, Uganda, Papua New Guin-ea, Ethiopia and vietnam. Each of these markets is expected to grow by 7-8% each year on aver-age over the next 20 years, doubling in size each decade. In terms of routes, Asian, South Ameri-can and African destinations will see the fastest growth, reflecting economic and demographic growth in those markets. Indonesia-East Timor will be the fastest growing route, at 13.9%, fol-lowed by India-Hong Kong (10.4%), Within Hon-duras (10.3%), Within Pakistan (9.9%) and UAE-Ethiopia (9.5%).

A non-profit helicopter air ambulance or-ganization that provides rapid and specialized emergency care and transportation for critically ill and injured patients, STARS operates from bases in Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmon-ton, Grande Prairie, and Winnipeg. The State of New Jersey has signed a three year training contract, with the option to add two additional years, that features a comprehensive package of services including simulator training for pilots of the multi-mission AW139 helicopters operated by New Jersey State Police. The State Police’s fleet of five AW139s is tasked with law enforce-ment, surveillance, EmS, and homeland security activities.
