• We enrolled 91 new students and took 147 applications for the 2015-2016 school year both of which are the second highest in the last 15 years (only 2001-2002 was higher);

• Our total scholarships and fellowships granted for the 2015-2016 school year was over $1 million for the first time while maintaining the level of support at 15-16% of total tuition;

• The Altamont Fund continues to grow with over $450,000 in donations for the year that ended June 30, 2015, which supports scholarships, faculty and programs;

• The Endowment was over $5.2 million as of June 30, 2015, which has grown through the success of our Capital Campaign;

• Altamont has invested over $3 million in capital improvements with 2 main projects completed in the Rotunda (library) and the Cabaniss-Kaul Center of the Arts.

• Our enrollment has grown for the last 5 consecutive years to 366 students reaching our targeted enrollment range at the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year:

A LETTER FROM THE TREASURER OF THE BOARD

Dear Altamont Friends,

On behalf of the Altamont School Board of Trustees, thank you for continuing to support our school with your many resources. I have been blessed with a long affiliation with the school as a student, as a parent and as a Board Member. Looking past how this next comment makes me feel, I started as a 5th grade student at Altamont in 1975 in the first year of the merger between Brooke Hill and BUS. This is the 40th anniversary of the merger and the beginning of Altamont School.

I would like to highlight some of the magnificent trends that demonstrate the health of the school we love:

The Board of Trustees is currently working on plans to upgrade our athletics facilities so please look for more information on this initiative in the near future. With this current campaign, we will touch virtually all aspects of the school from academics to arts to athletics. I want to assure you that your gifts make a big difference at the school and we will manage them well. The Altamont community is thriving and your support makes it possible.

The Georgeann Zohar Teacher Research Grant was established by her family in 2015 to award teachers with opportunities to advance their curriculums. “Gigi” Zohar was a beloved teacher of thirty-two years at Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena, TX. She inspired students through innovative lessons and loved to travel and experience

BROOKE HILL CUP SARAH POLHILL ’15

The Brooke Hill Cup is the highest honor an Altamont girl may receive. The award was founded at the Brooke Hill School in 1941. Senior girls who have been in attendance at The Al-tamont School for three consecutive years are eligible. The entire student body votes on loyalty, sportsmanship, and leadership. The faculty votes on scholarship, leadership, participation in school activities, and integrity. THE J. FRANK RUSHTON CUP PATRICK O’NEAL ’15

The J. Frank Rushton Cup is the highest award an Altamont boy may receive. Endowed in 1929 in memory of J. Frank Rushton, the cup is awarded annually. Senior boys who have been in attendance at The Altamont School for three consecutive years are eligible. The entire student body votes on loyalty, sportsmanship, and leadership. The faculty votes on scholarship, leadership, participation in school activities, and integrity. The athletic coaches vote on athletic ability and effort. Each category is worth 50 points to the winner of the category in determining the winner of the award.

THE HENRY DEBARDELEBEN NEAL AWARD

WILLIAM DENNISTON ‘19

The Henry DeBardeleben Neal Award is given annually to the outstanding eighth grade student of The Altamont School. The award is given in memory of a student who ranked high in Birmingham University School at the time of his death in 1958. The award is in the form of a gold medal given annually at commencement. The recipient of the award must be from the upper third of the eighth grade class scholastically. Final selection from this group is made by popular vote of the students and faculty of the entire school. The recipient is selected on the basis of honesty and integrity, school spirit, participation and leadership in school affairs, athletics, and any other activities of the student body.
