Handles with care.The standard 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission is designed for fuel-efficient, smooth operation. A total of seven ratios allows for smaller steps between gears, resulting in increased efficiency and additional comfort.

With the standard AIRMATIC air suspension, the GL-Class delivers a smooth and exceptional ride on any road. Designed to keep the ride height constant at all times, this self-levelling suspension system adjusts effortlessly regardless of the load you’re carrying or terrain you’re travelling.

The Adaptive Damping System (ADS)1 works in tandem with AIRMATIC to make your ride even more enjoyable. It allows you to choose between two damper settings at the touch of a button – Comfort and Sport – the latter of which adopts firmer suspension for sporty drivers. No matter what your preference is, this innovative system constantly monitors driving input and road conditions and makes necessary adjustments in as little as 50 milliseconds.

Confidence is yours.The all-new 2013 GL-Class ensures a safe drive with the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®)1 which is capable of detecting and correcting understeering, oversteering, abrupt steering and emergency braking in order to stabilize the vehicle. DISTRONIC PLUS2 will assist by first alerting the driver of a potential collision through an audible warning. Should the driver fail to respond, PRE-SAFE® Brake will engage braking functions to mitigate the risk of an impact. The standard COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST system along with Adaptive Brake Assist will ensure that the correct amount of braking pressure is applied regardless of the driver’s action in emergency situations.

The GL-Class is also equipped with intelligent, two-stage driver and front passenger airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, front and rear side airbags and window curtain airbags3. Going above and beyond, the GL-Class works on your behalf in the event of an accident. The engine and fuel supply are automatically cut, while hazard warning lights and emergency interior lights are activated. The side windows open partially for fresh air and clearer communication between passengers and emergency personnel.
