After Heats held at the Training Unit of the NHP Richmond Headquarters, the followingfinalists gave their four-minute addresses on topics of their own choice, to members of theRichmond Rotary Club, teachers, parents and guests.
Our adjudicators, Don and Margot Kinsey had outlined at the heats how the judging wasdone, and gave many hints to improve the entrants’ abilities to hold their audience and makethem listen. This tuition resulted in a great improvement in presentation and effectiveness byour finalists.
Winner: Susan Travis of Methodist Ladies’ College, who received a cash prize of $350, aninscribed Winner’s Medallion and had her name inscribed on the Perpetual Trophy.
Runner-up: Stephanie Moorhouse of Kilvington Girls’ Grammar School, who received acash prize of $250.
In Third-Place: James Waugh of Wesley College, who received a cash prize of $175
An encouragement Award was presented to Christopher Davie-Smythe of St Bede’sCollege, Mentone
