-1- THE ADITYA BIRLA PUBLIC SCHOOL, AWARPUR BI-ANNUAL REPORT APRIL 2014 TO SEPTEMBER 2014 Re-conceptualization of Education: Innovative Teaching Methodology- To foster the continuous updating of the education system and teaching methodology at school, the management has initiated the process of complementing the teaching-learning process through the introduction of digital classes from this academic year, in association with Next Education Pvt. Ltd., a leading name in Smart Classes in Central India. At Door Professional Coaching With the aim of equipping the students of senior classes with the skill set and confidence to crack various Professional Entrance Examinations, specialised coaching for the students of class XI & XII has been arranged at the ABPS with the help of the excellent faculty of Integra Eduventure, Nagpur. IIT origin for students of class IX is also introduced during the academic year. These classes run parallel to regular academic activities of the school without diluting the quality of regular teaching. Winds of Change: Mr Ashok Khuntwal, Unit Head of UTCL has been transferred to Khor, to take up his responsibilities as the Unit Head of Vikram Cement. Mr.G.Balasubramaniam has joined as the Unit Head of UTCL. Mrs. Daphne Unger, Principal of ABPS Awarpur has been transferred as Principal of ABPS Nagda and Mrs. Indumati Chakravarty, will be joining as Principal of A.B.P.S. Awarpur. Rewarding Results: Seventeen teachers of our Institution were recognized and felicitated on the 6 th of September at the Mass Communication Meeting, for their achievement on completion of 20 years of continuous, committed and dedicated service, by bestowing them with the Long Service Award. The newly instituted award under the leadership of the Unit Head Mr.G.Balasubramaniam is highly appreciated.

Re-conceptualization of Education:

Innovative Teaching Methodology- To foster the continuous updating of the education system and

teaching methodology at school, the management has initiated the process of complementing the

teaching-learning process through the introduction of digital classes from this academic year, in

association with Next Education Pvt. Ltd., a leading name in Smart Classes in Central India.

At Door Professional Coaching

Mrs. Indumati Chakravarty, will be joining as Principal of A.B.P.S. Awarpur.

Rewarding Results: Seventeen teachers of our Institution were recognized and felicitated on the 6th

Coffee Table Book On Values: To capture the exciting journey of the Value Leaders over the decade

and to inspire colleagues across ABG, the Corporate HR, has taken the initiative to feature the unique

stories, both of individuals and teams in a Coffee Table Book on ‘Values’. The touching story of Mrs

Daphne Unger, the recipient of the Chairman’s Value Leader Award-2008, of saving a student’s life

through timely action and commitment beyond the call of duty, has been chosen to adorn the pages of

the book.

Future trends on emerging Leadership: A two day workshop for level two leaders of the Aditya

Birla Group of School, on ‘EmergingTrends in Educational Leadership’, conducted at Gyanodhaya,

Mumbai, on 1st & 2nd September by Rev.Fr.Paul Puthussery was attended by Senior master Mr.Kurian

K.M. while the interactive sessions were highly informative and entertaining, the special sessions with

the CEO Dr.Shyamlal Ganguli provided in depth enlightenment in Group Values, Leadership values and

the ethics of the Aditya Birla group of schools.

Smt.Rajashree Birla left her charismatic impression upon the 21 participants with her endearing

interactions and motherly affection.

Orientation in English : Mrs.Josephine Ough and Mrs.Saroj Mangole participated in a two day ‘Pre

Primary’ workshop at PRFS, Mathura on the 27th and 28

th of September, 2014. The workshop focused on

teaching strategies pivoted around the student to make learning a joyful experience.

Events of Significance:

Salutation: “Gratitude is the memory of the heart” With a thankful heart all of us at School bid

adieu to Mr Ashok Khunthwal, the chairman of the Nalanda Education Society on the 28th of June,

2014. With a grateful heart, we acknowledged his contribution in the progress and growth of the

school, a brief cultural programme was presented on the occasion.

Harvesting Hope: A paper free, eco friendly School Council Elections for the School Pupil Leader, was

witnessed on the 5th of July as the enthusiastic voters of classes VI-XII casted their precious votes

b’coz of the software developed by Ayush Shukla- the computers wizard of class IX A. The Election

Result Analysis was effectively compiled through the systems by the students of the statistical and

data club, thus adding ease, accuracy and beauty to the spirited high voltage campaigning.

The Pathway to Empowerment: The Investiture Ceremony of the newly constituted Student

Council was held on Saturday, 26th July 2014 witnessed by the Unit Head Mr. G.Balasubramaniam,

Secretary of the School Society Mr. Anil Chopra, all the Functional Heads and their spouses. The

parents of the Student’s council were special invitees. The solemnity of the occasion and the flawless

conduct of the programme kept the audience spell bound.

ISO Audit: The re-certification Audit by DNV, the certifying body was successfully conducted by the

lead Auditor Mr. Pravin Morey on the 6th of August, 2014 and the accreditation was extended for a

period of further three years by the certifying body.

Independence Day: Was celebrated with great zeal and fervor. The Unit Head Mr.G.

Balasubramaniam, unfurled the National Flag and delivered a befitting message, which touched the

hearts of the audience, resulting in bouts of applauses. The patriotic songs presented by the students

filled the atmosphere with the true spirit of patriotism. The school management honoured the

meritorious students of Class X and XII of the AISSE and AISSCE with motivational awards.

Tracing the Journey: With well defined objectives, the Principal along with the Class Teacher Mrs.

Jainanma Antony visited the homes of students of class XII on the 27th of August,2014. The survey

included a study of vital key factors related to home environment, essential to determine the academic

progress and enhance the Board results.

Execution with Passion-‘Teachers’ Day’ was celebrated on the 5th of September, 2014 in a special

way under the efficient team of the Student Council. Strengthening the Whole School participation

concept, all the students of Classes L.K.G-XII were involved in the teacher’s day celebration. A cultural

extravaganza surfeit in honour of their beloved teachers was staged along with fun filled games. The

solemn felicitation ceremony shouldered by the students of class XII added gravity to the function. The

teaching staff along with their family were invited on the occasion of Teachers day by the

Management. The Unit Head along with his team of Functional Heads felicitated the teaching staff with

mementoes, expressed their gratitude for the devoted service rendered and shared a common Dinner

in fellowship thus promoting Seamlessness.

Hindi Saptaha: Celebrated from the 11th to 15th September 2014 to bring about greater awareness of

Hindi Language. It was in the year 1949, on the 14th of September that Hindi was declared as the

National Language. The enthusiastic participation of the students of Classes in the Various Literary

competitions added value to the week -long celebration.

Sanskrit Saptaha: With the endeavor to promote the teaching and learning of Sanskrit-‘the mother

of all languages’ Sanskrit Week was celebrated at School as per the guidelines of CBSE.

EExxcclluussiivvee RReeppoorrtt Ma’am Dear Ma’am!!!

Ms. Daphne Unger, who has set an example of indomitable zest for excellence, during her Two

and a half years of effective leadership was given a tearful, warm and affectionate farewell by

the students of ABPS on Tuesday 30th September. In an emotionally charged atmosphere, the

student representatives recollected how Ms. Unger is a splendid blend of firmness and

friendliness. Their wavelengths always matched and their chemistry always worked. The

bouquets presented by the students were moistured with tears of gratitude and love. In her

message to the students Ms. Unger explained how she constantly derived her strength from

the student community and the core Aditya Birla Group values. She exhorted the students to

always listen to the call of their inner voice. As the incumbent Principal walked down the

Aatma amidst thunderous applause the doleful lips silently said, “You Live In Our Hearts”.

World Aged Day on the 1st of October 2014 became meaningful with the warm presence of

85 grandparents who took delight in spending their precious time in our midst. With great joy

they participated in the Fun games, exhibited their Talent through songs and speeches and

rejoiced at the entertainment program, lovingly presented to them by the Students of the

Primary School.

Gandhi Jayanti celebration on the 2nd of October 2014 became significant with the active involvement of the Staff and the students of classes VI-XII. The residents of ACW colony were awakened by the live singing of the Bhajans, solemn Peace march and the echoing Slogans. Highlighting the Gandhian philosophy and principles, an ‘All Faith Prayer’ was held at School, followed by “Shramdaan” and sharing of Breakfast. A facelift was given to the School garden as 22 flora were adorned with the Name Tags, with the display of their Botanical & Common name. The christening of the flora ceremonially held, involving each teaching staff, with the help rendered by the Gardening Students of Class IX, was guided by the passionate initiative of our staff Mrs. Nimmy Nair. The celebration culminated with the message to promote Togetherness and strengthen National integration.

Opportunities Galore

New Heights Scaled : All of us at A.B.P.S. heartily

welcomed Mr.G.Balasubramanium, the Unit Head on

his maiden visit to school on the 2nd of August.

Mr.G.Balasubramanium, inaugurated the digital

classes in the Senior Secondary Block by the ‘Cutting

the Ribbon’ and by observing the individual classes.

The National Sports Day: On the 30th of August, 2014 came alive with the. ‘Inter-School Table Tennis

& Badminton tournament’ conducted for the CBSE Schools. Six schools with 145 students participated

in the tournament .The ABPS campus was bustling with enthusiasm and anticipated pleasure at the

thought of hosting the event. The hospitality and service rendered by the students of the Social Service

club was well appreciated by the visiting schools. The flawless performance of our students in Table

Tennis & Badminton declared us as the Champions. The awards were distributed by Mrs.Vinita

Subramaniam and the other dignitaries at the Valedictory function.

Flawless Performance: Our Students participated in the under 14, 17, 19 District level Badminton,

Table Tennis & Chess tournament at Chandrapur on the 4th , 5th, 6th & 11th of September,2014. The

Boys & Girls Team were declared as Winners and were selected for the Divisional Level. Master

Chitransh Viswakarma of Class XI was selected to represent Chandrapur District in the State

level Table Tennis, held at Jalgoan.

Catch them young

Creative Impetus: The aim of the competition is to foster the power of imaginative reconstruction ability,

express ideas pictorially and develop creative expression through interpretation of colours.

221 students of Classes K.G. -X participated in 14th International Child Art Exhibition 2014 organized by

Kshitij an Art Society on the 22nd

of August, 2014.

16 students of Class VIII participated in the Elementary Drawing Grade Examination and 12 students of

Class IX participated in the Intermediate Drawing Grade Examination conducted by the Directorate of Art,

Maharashtra State held between the 24th to the 28th of September, 2014.

300 students of Classes IV - IX participated in the painting competition for National Campaign on ‘Energy

Conservation 2014’ organized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Government of India and Ministry of

Power on the 11th of September, 2014.

Honing Scientific Temperament: With the objective of promoting scientific attitude among school

students.

402 students of classes I -XII have registered for Science Olympiad Foundation’s Olympiad Exams for the

academic year.

A scholarship of Rs.2500/- was awarded to each of the four selected students of classes IV-XII, from

economically weak background, for their outstanding performance in academics by the Olympiad exam

committee of 2012-13 & 2013-14 during the assembly on the 30th September, 2014.

The Parent Teachers’ Meeting :

The institution regards parents as co-educators and

actively seeks to involve them in the school

community. We recognized that education is a

partnership between school and home and

therefore provides avenues for communication and

interaction through the Parent Teachers’ Meeting.

The first round of Parent Teachers’ Meeting held

Class-wise for L.K.G- XII has been successfully

conducted through effective Power Point Presentations, enlightening the parents on the guidelines by CBSE

for classes IX and X and with useful tips on ‘Good Parenting’ in accordance with the schedule of the

institutional planning mentioned in the Hand Book.

To cater to the overwhelming demand an additional section in class L.K.G. was started.

In depth presentation on Good /Bad Touch and Sexual Harassment to students of classes I-XII.

Induction of Best House Award and strengthening of Best Class Award.

Inception of Appreciation Awards and Medical Check- up for School Staff.

Infrastructural Development: To add value to the existing Education System, the Management

has catered to provide the following Infrastructural facilities.

20 new computers.

5 digital classrooms in the Sr. Secondary block..

New Classroom furniture for K.G. Classes.

Construction of Vehicle parking for Staff and Visitors.
