Here’s a little stat that will blow your mind. Dun & Bradstreet reports that 90% of business owners experience overwhelm when it comes to running their business. When you’re overwhelmed, what happens? Harvard Business Review reported that in one study, people took an average of nearly 25 minutes to return to a task after an email interruption. 25 minutes! And that’s just for one email!

In fact, a few years ago, a study by HP reported IQ scores of knowledge workers distracted by email and phone calls fell 10 points – that’s twice the decline recorded for smoking marijuana!

You can forget about being even remotely productive when you have to juggle business growth plans, software, processes, systems, hiring, finance, automation, implementation all on your own.

“How I made $600,000 with one webinar” “How Sally ran a free challenge and made $40,000 in 2 weeks” “How I used this simple Facebook Ads formula to bring over $500,000 in revenue in one month”. Do any of these sound familiar? C’mon... Spill the

beans… Have you actually tried any of these? I sure have! I found that it was never as easy as they said it was in the slick sales video or webinar pitch. But when I went looking for answers on how to fix my launches the answers were: “You have to launch faster and more often.” “You’re not hustling enough. Hustle really hard for 2 years and you’ll get there.” “Make the time to hustle - work on your business from 3 am - 7 am every day and you’ll see success.” I know you’re all saying to me “Amber, I’m tired of waiting. I want it all now! I need it all now!” But that’s our Achilles heel, my friends. That pulls us into a never-ending, destructive cycle of feast and famine or even famine for most of the time! Sustainable growth takes time, and the smart answer is NOT to “hustle harder and faster”.

Have you heard the story of Abraham Lincoln? He said “Give me 6 hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first 4 sharpening the axe.” Whether or not he actually said that is debatable but it certainly rings true. You need a strong foundation followed by consistent action of the right steps in the right sequence to create a profitable, sustainable business that allows you and your family to live the life you know you deserve. It’s not about buying 5 different pieces of software, snapping your perfectly manicured fingers from your couch and running a webinar.

Now I personally know a handful of Modern CEOs who quit their jobs, started online businesses and made a lot of money quickly. They are the exception, not the norm. Stop comparing yourself to them. Drop that guilt and feeling of failure at the door. Stop thinking you’ve fallen behind everyone else. This is a guilt-free, stress-free zone my friends!

This is my favorite part: Implementation! This is where the magic happens. This is where the real fun starts and your profitability begins! It’s not all sunshine and roses, unicorns and rainbows because you will hit obstacles or a few speed bumps along the way. In fact, if you’re implementing and not hitting any obstacles it’s time to adjust how you’re implementing your plan. Today, I’m going to share with you my secret weapon for slaying these obstacles! Audrey, my 2nd youngest girls, started kindergarten. Harper, my youngest, hasn’t started school yet but she has to come along with us every morning to drop off Audrey at school. I love my neighborhood but one big concern is there’s no sidewalk in front of our house. If you have toddlers and young kids I think you can understand my concern about the cars zipping by our house as we leave each day. When we step out the door, I’m on high alert to cars coming by and making sure I’ve got a tight grip on Audrey and Harper. We’ve also spent time learning some basic rules such as – never run out to the street, or look both ways before crossing and always hold onto an adult’s hand when crossing the street. If we never left the house this would never be an obstacle. But we do leave the house and they aren’t going to build a sidewalk anytime soon. I knew about this before we moved here but because I knew, I planned for it ahead of time so it doesn’t become a big hurdle.

How would your life change if you knew what obstacles were coming up and when, plus you had a pretty solid game plan to not only handle the obstacles but leverage them for your benefit when they came up? Life would feel pretty good, wouldn’t it? You’d have less stress, you would move forward confidently with momentum and ease. We can’t do this for your personal life but we can make this happen for your business!

MYTH #2: I CAN DIY IT ALL AND SAVE MONEY, I’M A SOLOPRENEUR AFTER ALL!

_____Especially now more than ever, we have easy and free access to a mountain of DIY tips - that’s right Do It Yourself. As Modern CEOs we’re also surrounded by messages of how easy it is to DIY with the latest and greatest software. Need a landing page? Just buy LeadPages or Clickfunnels. Want to create beautiful marketing graphics? Get your free account at Canva. There are 234,000 video results when I google “How to publish a blog post in Wordpress.” Because isn’t it faster (not to mention cheaper) if I just buckle down and do it myself? Who wants to go through the pain of hiring someone when I can just trade in my Netflix night for a few hours of video training.

I’m a solopreneur! I started my own business – yes, I can do this! And sure, I get it. It’s empowering to learn something new. Didn’t you get just a little giddy when you learned how to publish your own blog post or create a Facebook page?

Reality check. You’re at your computer programing in email sequences and designing your web pages on Squarespace. Congratulations. You’ve officially bought yourself a new job where you’re probably netting less than minimum wage to get it done and you’re probably not even doing a great job at it. Plus, look at the clock. Is it 9 pm? Midnight? Weren’t you supposed to take the kids to the movies as a treat? Or did you blow off a girls night out with your best friends? This doesn’t feel like a millionaire lifestyle or being a smart, Modern CEO.

We may be solopreneurs but there ain’t nothin’ solo about this!

The key to success is to focus your time on what you do best and which energizes you. Me? Even just logging into Wordpress makes my smile turn upside down and drains my energy just thinking about it. The first thing I ever outsourced in my business was my blog posting process. I tallied it up, I spent hours – yes HOURS – hanging out in WordPress tweaking, adjusting, agonizing over the formatting of the blog post picking, searching for that perfect image and don’t even get me started on fonts and colors. I wasted waaaay too much time on JUST ONE blog post. Time I could have been spending creating a new product, strategizing my next launch, planning my next 90 days, finding new ways to love and service my clients. I remember the day I outsourced my blog posting. It was EVERYTHING! I suddenly felt re-energized and instead of spending hours, hunched over my laptop, stress lines etched into my face, I focused energy on sales, connecting with my prospects and showering my clients with love. Yes, it took a bit of time to get my new assistant set up to implement the process but they soon got the hang of it and overall, it was a minimal time and money investment that unlocked a new world of possibilities and profitability! From that day forward, little by little, I was making more money because I was focused on generating revenue in my zone of genius and the momentum continued. As my revenue increased, I invested in more outsourcing which multiplied our revenue even more!

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that you have to hire a whole team of people to make your business work. I’m also not against investing in some of those amazing software and AI solutions (did you know there’s an AI who will schedule meetings for you?). Identify the right activities to outsource that will give you the most leverage in your business. Start with a freelancer or contractor who can help you with just one activity. Then start to build strong relationships with these people so they can support you and be by your side as you’re growing your business. MYTH #3: YOU NEED TO KNOW EVERYTHING_____

Like I said already, there’s a mountain of free information for any question you have and courses for you to buy. I think at some point we become information addicts and want to learn everything we can about this one topic. When you’re looking to improve your marketing, have you taken a course on Facebook advertising? Did you know there are 11 marketing objectives for a Facebook ad? Don’t even get me started with the intricacies of targeting and the format of your ad. But guess what? I took a Facebook ads course and I found out I only needed to know one, easy type of ad to launch my product. And guess what? I did it and I was profitable. Or how many of you have a system like Active Campaign or Infusionsoft? How many hours have you spent

learning all the details? Every day we’re showered with ads and blog posts that teach us the 100 ways we can write a blog post or here’s 300 templates for your next email marketing campaign.

Guess what? All of this is just smoke and mirrors. It distracts you from what you really need to focus on to get momentum and grow your business with ease. You only need a small sliver of the information to be successful. You don’t need to know everything. You don’t need to become an expert on 10 different topics. We don’t need more information.

Depending on what stage you are in your business, there are certain key topics you’ll need to be an expert in and others you only need a broad knowledge of to be a successful Modern CEO. Certainly, there are going to be some topics that you’re going to need to deep dive into because they are core to your service offering their cord the services that you delivered to your clients or 30 part of the strategy that you are executing and delivering on in your business.

Since I’ve been helping hundreds of business leaders over the past 12 years to grow, I’ve developed and documented learning plans, checklists and templates for the different stages you’ll go through in your business so you can just pick and choose what you need from our curated list.

I want to challenge you today to stop trying to learn everything. As that famous song, our kids (ok and me too!) play over and over again says… Let it go!

This is where a lot of that overwhelm comes from.

The way I am going to propose to you a challenge is to learn what you need to implement the specific strategy that you are working on right now. Certainly, sometimes that might mean you need a bit of the big picture and you might need some information and somehow 2 strategies so you can get started and get some of your first steps but it doesn’t always mean that you need to have every single step

mapped out and you need a plan and you need the playbook for every single thing before you get started.

MYTH #4: IT’S ALWAYS GREEN JUICE AND TIME AT THE BEACH

_____Not only is it not always a yummy green juice and beach time, but I wouldn’t actually want it to be always beach time. I love being productive and I love connecting with my clients and colleagues about their businesses. For sustainable, long-term happiness and growth, it can’t be all time at the beach, but it can’t be all work either. You have to flow, twist, and shimmy, between productive time, thinking or creative time, and “beach” time (whatever that is for you).

And every now and then there’s a breakdown. But for example, just hours before I sat

and planned out this video I felt a moment of extreme anxiety that I started a full-on ugly cry while writing. I call it the breakdown before the breakthrough…

Has that ever happened to you?

When I first started my entrepreneurial journey, Ali Brown said to me, entrepreneurship is the biggest personal development journey you will ever go on. And boy was that the truth.

Organizational Development expert Peter Senge says that we conform to the norms around us. Basically, saying that we become like the people that we hang around. This is why I am so grateful that since the very beginning of my entrepreneurial journey I started to immerse myself in communities where other entrepreneurs were hanging out. Have you heard that you become like the 5 people you spend most of your time with?

When it comes to the people you spend the most time with, not only does your mental model and your mindset start to shift, you think hey I can do that too – and you know your thoughts become your reality, right?.

But you also have an amazing group of people to lift you up and help you get back in action when you are just not feeling it.

That’s why I love the live, community elements of Freshly Implemented like Open Studio and Speed Masterminding.

We come together once a month for virtual co-working where I stay on the line to answer questions I share behind-the-scenes on what’s going on in my business and we rally to make sure you move ahead on whatever is most important in your business. Over and over, the communities I have joined whether they are courses or networking groups, being surrounded by like-minded people and people I can share my ideas with and collaborate with has been one of the most beneficial things that I have done for my business.

MYTH NUMBER 5: ONLINE BUSINESS OWNERS HAVE IT EASIER THAN BRICK AND MORTAR BUSINESS.

_____The grass is always greener right? Having a foot in both worlds here, I can assure you there are pros and cons to both.

More often than not, I see brick and mortar business owners wishing and wanting to grow an online business because it looks easier. It looks sexy.

Truth be told, I wouldn’t say one of my businesses is easier to run than another because one is online and one is brick and mortar.

One is easier because it is more mature and one takes more effort because it is newer and I’m still figuring a few things out.

I think starting online was actually a bit *harder* for me because it felt less tangible.

You just put something out there into the inter webs and maybe people will talk back and maybe they won’t. Of course, that’s not reality because even silence is communication. But the online world is more isolating for me and it meant that I had to work harder to get in community, connect with my clients, and build a model the worked for me “as if” I was showing up in person.

That’s actually how I design my online experiences… I ask myself: “If I were showing up in person, what would I want this to look like?” And I build from there.

Now in both businesses, we use the power of online marketing to reach our prospects and serve our clients. Even in my brick and mortar business, we use online marketing principles to generate leads, automate marketing, and increase our sales per transaction.

The other thing that is key to both the online and the brick and mortar business running with ease is that we keep an eye on the foundational elements of running a business, you know, the not so sexy stuff like systems and hiring and finance… If you focus on sales and marketing but if you ignore the foundational elements this can spell disaster.

Ask yourself: do you have the foundational structures in place to support increased sales activity and keep your sanity at the same time? Because if I know you, I know that you will do everything in your power to execute on all of those sales that come your way in all of that momentum comes your way even if it means working 24/7.

And I know that might work for a short period of time but that will not work for the long run and no one hit wonders on our watch. That’s why in Freshly Implemented

we’re also going to work with you over time to build your foundation in a sustainable way. Over time we’re going to rally and work to get your systems in place. We’re going to work together to get your Revenue plan in place because, as the state of the small business owner research reports, businesses that have a revenue plan in place grow 60% faster than those that don’t. Listen I get it. This foundational work is not sexy to everyone. I know that I am unique in believing that. And I know this foundational work is also the work that often falls to the bottom of the priority list while sales marketing and client work move to the top of the priority list. And that’s okay. Because that is just the reality of doing business, we have structured Freshly Implemented in a way that you take to make tweaks to your system, as you are ready for it, and as you need it so that in the end you have what I call the genie effect. It’s when you get to the end of a transition, and you look around and think “did I do all of that?” I didn’t even realize we did all of that because it is so seamless and it’s so organic and it comes with such ease but it feels like it just sort of happened. Like magic. That’s the beauty of what happens when you give yourself space and time and you focus like you now do in your business, and like we do with you in Freshly Implemented.

MYTH NUMBER 6: WHEN YOU TAKE AN ONLINE COURSE OR JOIN AN ONLINE PROGRAM YOU’RE JUST A NUMBER

As business owners today, we have an amazing opportunity in front of us whether we run brick-and-mortar businesses or we run online businesses to create super cool experiences for our clients and with our clients. In an effort to put experience creation to the test, we set out to create something unique in Freshly implemented. Personally, I am a big fan of co-creation where sometimes we (you and my clients in Freshly Implemented) create solutions on the fly because a need is identified (by you or me)

and we both agree that we can do something about that need.

I also believe that we have a phenomenal opportunity to focus more on relationships even in the online world.

For that reason, that’s why we try to craft an experience in Freshly Implemented that is all about intimacy and connection. We don’t believe businesses are one-size-fits-all, everyone’s experience in Freshly Implemented is a little bit unique. Sometimes I’m asked what do we do in Freshly Implemented. Well there are a lot of structures in place which I’m going to tell you more about, but the heart of what we do in Freshly Implemented is: take your goal and we work on that all year long, we build plans around it, we build systems to support you in achieving those goals, and we rally and support you in meeting those goals.

That’s the focus. Your goals. Your plans. Your business.

A couple of unique ways that I like to show up for you in Freshly Implemented and support you in achieving your goals is by something I call Back Pocket TLC. When you join Freshly Implemented, you actually get my personal cell phone number, I know I know it’s a little weird. But I want to know you and I want to know your business so that I can best partner with you to grow your business and help you move ahead with ease. Back Pocket TLCs are like the phone a friend or one-on-one time and how much one-on-one time you get varies based on your needs: unlimited or 2x per year. I’ll tell you a little bit more about those in the next video, but I wanted to give you an example of how an experience or how an element of a program can be customized to meet the needs of a market and of an experience that you’re trying to create.

Now, I also mention that I’m really open to co-creation and I like to develop solutions on the fly based on me, that are identified in Freshly Implemented throughout the year. So for that reason, I share nice couch or behind the scenes as the year goes. MYTH NUMBER 7: YOU ARE THINKING TOO SMALL. YOU NEED MORE WILLPOWER, A STRONGER WHY, OR A

BIGGER VISION_____

Now I’m all about thinking BIG, playing big, and making sure your vision is BIG. Without a meaningful goal, that is purposeful to you, you won’t be driven to get out of bed in the morning and do the uncomfortable things that need to be done to grow a business, start that podcast, paint that painting, sell that artwork, design that website. Yes, it’s crazy scary to do the things you haven’t done before, the resistance that comes with that is very, very real.

But you don’t need to do more, think bigger, or go back to the drawing board on your vision or you’re why.

I believe it’s just right. Just as it is right now.

Sure, it might evolve and it might get bigger or change all together as the days and years go by.

In the meantime, what the world needs from you now, is for you to get in action.

In fact, doing something right now that you believe you can do will only help you get the flywheel turning and build your confidence as you make your climb to the goal that seems out of reach.

When climbing Mount Everest you don’t start at the top – you start in training.You start.

To get started, choose the very first baby step to get into action toward your next level goal.

Hire that consultant. Join that program. Record that episode. Take the picture. Send the proposal. Set up the business email account.

All of the baby steps add up.
