Last Friday we celebrated the day by holding our annual Fathers Day afternoon tea. Each grade contributed afternoon delights for the wonderful dads and special people in our lives. It was such a beautiful afternoon and a great opportunity to get to know more of the school community. A huge thanks to Shannon, Alana and Judith who set up the Fathers Day stall too. My dad was particularly excited about his new back-scratcher and Allen keys! Thank you to everyone for making the day so special. Our year 3 and 4 students went to DOXA Malmsbury Camp this week. What a fantastic opportunity for our students. They participated in activities such as a challenging ropes course, the climbing tower, giant swing, giant ladder, trampolines, the leap of faith and the ga-ga pit. A massive thanks to Jeanette, Jane, Steph, Glenn and Shannon for giving up their time to help create life-long memories for our students. I was out in Glenns Garden this week and took these photos of the amazing student-built constructions! Many students at lunch and recess are toiling away creating these masterpieces. Not only are these students learning physical skills such as drilling, hammering and sawing, but also personal skills such as cooperation, communication and problem solving. I welcome families to come and visit the garden any time youre at pick up or drop off! A reminder that Monday 9 th September is a Student-Free Day. Our whole school, along with Aldercourt PS and staff from the Early Learning Centre, will participate in training by Berry Street. Dont forget, if you have a child commencing Prep in 2020, please remember to complete the enrolment pack that can be found at the office. For neighbours and friends who would like a tour of our great school, please call the school and we can set up a time. Frankston North Education Plan (FNEP) Update

Recently we had a joint staff meeting of all three schools involved in the FNEP – Aldercourt Primary School, Mahogany Rise Primary School and Monterey Secondary College. We talked a great deal about how we, as staff, must work together to ensure that your children have an easy transition from early years to primary school and from primary school to secondary school. While we are three schools, our aim is to work as one community. Mahogany Rise Primary School is now working more closely with the Early Learning Centre on site, the two primary schools are working with the secondary school around reading, maths and science and Monterey Secondary School is working on key partnerships for the sports academy. Stay tuned for more exciting progress.

Curriculum Day

This Monday 9th September we are having a whole school Curriculum Day. Student's are not to attend school on this day.

School Council

Hello MRPS families,

Welcome to the first of what will be a regular column keeping you in the loop on what your School Council is working towards in both the school and the local community.

Since Mr Schneider has come on board, through the guidance of the leadership team we are working with renewed vigour to deliver on the issues that we perceive as pressing and relevant to the MRPS community.

Behind the scenes we are working to strengthen our mission statement, revisiting our values and objectives in accordance with the schools core objective, 'creating a community of lifelong learners.'

We strongly perceive along with the leadership team, community engagement is vital to continued success at MRPS and are excited to announce an Open Parent Night in the coming weeks. This will be a platform for you to voice concerns and to hear our vision moving forward as one community. Stay tuned for more details!

At any time if you have questions or concerns please stop us for a chat, we are always open and willing to help.

Until next issue,

Your MRPS School Council

Project O

On Tuesday the 3rd September the Grade 6 girls went on an excursion as a part of Project O. At the start of the school day, the girls, Tricia, Leslie and Maggie piled into the bus and drove into the city. Their first stop was an unscheduled one; due to road works in the city, the girls had to gather all their things, dismount the bus and walk the rest of the way to their first destination. While at Melbourne University, the girls went to the universities radio studio. The girl ran a mock radio segment. The girls decided on three topics: vegetarianism, positive self-talk and teenage fashion. They grouped themselves into four, went into the studio and discussed these topics.

After lunch of Subway in the park, two Project O girls, Ellenois and Hollie, were invited to perform with Bianca Ivorie. Bianca is a pianist, guitarist and vocalist. Ellenois sang A Million Reasons by Lady Gaga. Hollie sang Zombie by the Cranberries.

The girls arrived safely back at school at 3pm. Tired, but happy for having had the experience.

Father’s Day Afternoon Tea

Thank you to everyone who attended our Father's Day afternoon tea. It was an amazing afternoon filled

with food and fun activities.

DOXA Summer Camp!

January Holidays Monday 6th January- Friday 10th January Monday 13th January- Friday 17th January Our Holiday camps are a great deal of fun and provide children with positive life experiences through a range of exciting age-appropriate activities. Costs are heavily subsidised at $45 per week, as we want to make sure young people have access to our Holiday camps despite the nature of their life circumstances. The program is ideally targeted at children who have limited everyday life experience outside of school (i.e. limited exposure to organised sport, co-curricular activities or family holidays) and would benefit from an opportunity to develop greater confidence and increased capacity to build positive interpersonal relationships. For more information contact: Email: [email protected]

Mahogany Rise Child and Family Centre

Dear families, Mahogany Rise Child and Family Centre has a funded Kindergarten program. The Centre employs a full time Bachelor qualified kindergarten teacher. We provide the children with all meals throughout the day with the added convenience of extended hours outside the kindergarten sessions. Please come along and have all of your questions answered or arrange an alternative time to suit by calling Debbie on 8773 9520.
