I. Invitation“Welcome to the 3rd Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network Jeju Symposium!”
Destructions of the environment can devastate human life and thus trouble all over the globe. We're in need for our effort, understanding the global environment better and trying to live along with the nature. Sustaining development, including well preserved nature and acknowledging the importance of the nature through constant education has become our core responsibility.
It is Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial commitment to preserve our nature within Geoparks Program, sharing ideas and researches on global environment with scientists and experts in their respective fields.
The 3rd Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network Jeju Symposium clearly is a venue for participants, revaluing our environment, interchanging with other geoparks and expanding international cooperation to a much greater level. The symposium will benefit those current member scholars and managing staff of Global Geoparks as well as future prospective members of local scholars and managing staff.

The 3rd Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network Jeju Symposium will be held in Jeju island, Korea from September 7 to 13, 2013. The environmental treasure island Jeju with recognitions as UNESCO Bio Sphere Reserve (2002), UNESCO Natural Heritage Site (2007) and Global Geoparks Network (2010) has successfully hosted the IUCN World Conservation Congress here in Jeju in September 2012, inviting the world's renowned scholars and environmental experts.
The rapid worldwide urbanization has brought global climate changes and much sooner environmental destructions.

Natural Heritage Site (2007) and Global Geoparks Network (2010), and Jeju has been a test bed for various UNESCO programs. The 3rd Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network Jeju Symposium is an excellent venue for sustainable developments, conserving and utilizing environ-ments effectively with newer paradigm of coexistence among human and environment.
Island of Jeju has been blessed with abundant scientific values over geological features, ecology, culture and history with Mt. Hallasan as its center. With various natural resource oriented programs in operation, Jeju will provide abundant scientific and theoretical experi-ences, and a successful role model of geoparks, objecting effective conservation and utilization.
Jeju Symposium proudly represents unique Jeju thematic activities while maintaining originality of general meeting and its continui-ty. The changing world today is faced with a much wider scope of interchange with our mother nature, climate, society, culture and knowledge and information. * The symposium fieldtrips will be cancelled if the minimum number of persons are not reached.
