Grade 3 and 4 Art: Gleaning With Delight

This class has been working hard throughout the semester on developing their skills and knowledge of different art eras and colour theory. All students have had to mix their own secondary and tertiary colours as well as tints and shades to build tone, create form and express a depth of field.

Below is a display of the class’s final interpretation of the ‘Gleaners’ by Jean-Francois Millet

Students further developed their use of tone, colour and composition by creating artworks that reflect Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, as depicted below.

Principal’s Page The Education State Liza and I were able to attend the two day Regional Conference in Melbourne, this was one of four conferences of school leader’s across the state. There was more than a thousand school leaders at our conference alone. Victoria is investing greatly in education and it is great to be able to look at research and practice from across the world ,and share with colleagues their progress and concerns. The message is clear that the world is changing rapidly, as are the students. Schools need to engage students in what they need to learn, develop students to have a greater ownership of their learning, and ensures they develop a strong sense of wellbeing and resilience to thrive in a challenging world. This puts real demands on teachers to have the best evidenced based practice. It a path our school is doing very well with. The conference acknowledge that mistakes have been made: the data shows that since NAPLAN’s introduction there has been a significant drop in the performance of high achievers in reading and writing. It is not the tests as such, but the sort of teaching advocated in some areas and attempts at short fixes to meet targets. I attended a great session which demonstrated ways in which our literacy teachers can further extend their excellent practice. It was great to come and share them with Tracey, Liza, Max and Lynette as soon as I could. Much of what was presented in some sessions regarding ‘deep learning’ are already exemplified in many area s of the school. I had the opportunity to talk to Bruce Armstrong one of the Assistant Secretaries and one of the principle designers of ‘The Education State’. It was good to see his awareness of the many issues surrounding rural education and to be in a world where the leadership works with schools. S

Spanish Cooking with Grs 3-6

Continuing our work on Spanish speaking countries Grade 3—6 also have been

looking at Spanish food

Churros

We made dough for our churros [Spanish donuts] and with the churros there was

chocolate dipping sauce.

We also made apple pie. I liked how the 3-4’s apple pie tasted way better than the

5-6’s apple pie. Theirs tasted like burnt pastry that’s why I liked the 3-4’s better

than the 5-6’s. by Tash

SPANISH FOOD

Today Nicole, David, Chaz and I made a Spanish omelette but in Spain they call it a

tortilla, and Jack made paella. The paella was delicious! The sad news because

Matilda C, Chaz and I won’t be here for the shared lunch, but we get to take some

home. I love cooking because it is all about experimenting. Sometimes it turns out

good, but sometimes it does not turn out good.

And a week later we made Spanish desserts. We made Spanish donuts and Spanish

apple pie. It was amazing. With the donuts we got to have chocolate and it made it

better. And soon we might be making more food. By Hailey Gardner

On Thursday year 5-6 (without Jack) made Spanish food. We

made churros (Spanish donuts) and empanadas (Spanish

apple pie). I didn’t try the empanadas but the churros was

indescribably good and it was even better with the sugar

and cinnamon. The one hard part was squeezing the piping

bag, by the way, it was worth it. Also for the dipping sauce it

used one whole block of Chocolate well that’s about it.

Cooking desserts Fun!

Yesterday we made churros and apple empanadas and they tasted amazing.

Everyone loved the churros with the chocolate dipping sauce. Chaz and I made the churros.

When we made the dipping sauce I got to lick the

pot out and I got chocolate all over my face.

When we were cooking them I got hot oil on my

face and it hurt. So Chaz did the rest.

Hailey and I took half of the empanada home and I

gave Mum, JJ and Tash some and Mum thought

that there was too much yeast.

I would love to make them again.

SPANISH DESSERTS

On the 7/8/18 we got to cook

Empanadas and Churros. My

favourite was the Churros put

in cinnamon sugar and

dipped in dark chocolate

sauce. I ate 8 Churros. It

tasted delicious.

I highly recommend it to everybody. I learnt that Churros are

DELICIOUS it was fun. BY DAVID MONGTA P.S Jack wasn’t there.

Churros and Apple Empanada

I made churros. with Matilda C. and Tash. I sprinkled the sugar . I love making churros it tasted like, like, like, like, like sugar and dough. The apple empanada tasted like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like dough and apple. I didn’t like it when we cleaned up though but I liked putting the dishes away.

By Claire churros apple empanada

The 3-4 Empanadas Today I made some apple empanada with Matilda H, and it was a bad session

and here’s why. I don’t like to cook because I’m a perfectionist, that’s my

simple reason. Wow! The churros came out great but the dipping sauce was

mediocre but everyone except me liked it.

On the other hand, the empanada was a masterpiece! I had four slices but

the second time I had drizzled way too much cream on my empanada. As

always, eating was more fun than cooking.

AFL

Last Wednesday saw four of our local girls travel up to Bermagui to try out for the

Youth Girls interleague football team. Anna Crawford, Shanise Mongta, Chloe

Henderson and Alexis Watson were successful and made the squad of 22. It was a

fantastic effort considering there were 36 girls to choose from. The girls will be part

of the Sapphire Coast AFL Stingray’s squad. The girls will compete in the

Shoalhaven Junior Representative Carnival in Nowra on Friday 6th July through till

Sunday 8th July.

All four girls play for the Eden Whalers and have improved greatly this year. Anna

and Chloe have been working hard together in the backline constantly laying

tackles on the last line of defence and providing plenty of voice and run off the

backline. Alexis has been our starting ruckman for the past four weeks and is doing

an awesome job with the hit outs. Her height has been valuable across the middle

taking some great marks. Shanise has been promoted to the midfield the last three

weeks and is standing up to the challenge. Shanice’s speed, quick hands and hard

bumps are being noticed by the team winning player’s player twice in the last few

weeks. Congratulations girls you should be very proud of yourselves.

GO WHALERS!!!!!!!!!

Committee of Management Vacancies

The Committee of Management currently have a vacancy.

We are actively seeking community members to apply for this important community position.

The committee desires to reflect the diversity of this community and therefore we appeal to the

younger generation (18 years and over) in our community, to bring a fresh perspective to the

committee. This is an excellent opportunity for you to gain business management insight and

experience. You may be surprised how valued you would be, and how much you could bring to the

centre!

New members would be given the full support of the current members and would not find it difficult to

contribute.

The Centre is a dynamic and important function of our community and continually strives to improve.

The Committee of Management meets once a month and usually the meetings are routine and of short

duration but they are important. The Committee monitors the accounts, Policy and Procedure and is a

conduit to the community.

A police check is necessary (which the centre would pay for) and an introductory package can be

obtained from the office.

For further information, feel free to contact Michael O’Brien on 0427 394 269.

Join and share the pride in this excellent centre.
