However, e-submission isn't the eventual goal of BCA in encouraging BIM adoption. The long-term target is to raise the productivity of the sector by up to 25% over the next ten years. While many firms have indeed taken advantage of the BIM fund to jumpstart into BIM implementation, the vast majority are still in the "learning curve" stage. The aim of this presentation is to give an executive view from BIM Basics and Implementation to Cloud-based Collaboration and Post-Construction Opportunities. It will also cover the importance of "Design Object Libraries" - the very building blocks of BIM and how SIA BIG (BIM Interest Group) is spearheading this project together with CIJC. It is hoped that with this back-to-basics overview (aka minus the glossy commercial promises and hype), together we can manage this paradigm shift and achieve a true productivity increase for the entire industry. About the Speaker Ben Thum is the self-titled Innovation Director of SIACAD Pte Ltd, a commercial arm of the Singapore Institute of Architects. He graduated as an architect but after practicing for 5 years, decided to pursue his passion for software development. He then spent 20 years in software development and experimenting with various aspects of IT ranging from assembly code programming to non-linear digital video editing. Ben started BIM with Revit in 2001, before AutoDesk acquired it. Since then, he has developed solutions that are currently used by firms in Singapore and the region. In 2011, the company joined the AutoDesk Developer Network. By May 2011, the company released eBOAS - a highly sought-after BIM solution for e-Submission in Singapore. Besides hardcore programming, Ben is actively involved in training which he believes is an excellent source for ideas and inspiration. An avid reader, Ben spends his free time reading everything from history, science and politics to management, fiction and spy thrillers.
