John Friend founded Anusara Yoga in 1997, and today it is one of the most popular schools of hatha yoga, with an expanding presence throughout north America, Europe, Japan, China, and Australia. The radiance of Anusara Yoga is due to its blend of life-affirming Tantric philosophy, Universal principles of Alignment, and a deep community spirit. See pages 6, 7, 8, 11, 15, 16, 20, and 21.

Elisabeth Halfpapp is the vice president and cofounder of exhale spa and codeveloped Core Fusion with her husband, Fred deVito. In addition to leading workshops and classes nationally, Elisabeth designs exhale's movement programming strategy for yoga and Core Fusion classes, workshops, and retreat offerings. See pages 18 and 19.

James Higgins teaches a unique style of Hatha Vinyasa Yoga inspired by his vipassana meditation experience. Unifying his long-term studies of traditional yoga forms with Buddhist wisdom, he encourages peaceful, healing evolution and a deeper understanding of the true self. James, who lives in the san Francisco Bay Area, teaches and leads retreats worldwide. See pages 12, 13, 15, 18, and 20.

Amy Ippoliti has been a student of yoga since 1986 and a certified Anusara Yoga teacher since 2000. she has traveled extensively with John Friend and leads international retreats, workshops, and teacher trainings. Amy is known for dynamically offering her life experience with the potent Universal principles of Alignment, elegant Tantric yoga philosophy, and therapeutics. See pages 7, 8, 11, 14, and 16.

Alanna Kaivalya’s lifelong fascination with sound led her to Jivamukti Yoga, where she has immersed herself in the power of yoga, chanting, and music. Also known as the Jivadiva, Alanna teaches workshops worldwide and produces the Yoga Jam podcast, which garners over half a million listeners. she lives in new York City, where she leads regular kirtans and teaches classes. See pages 9, 14, 16, 19, 20, and 21.

Sally Kempton (durgananda) teaches meditation and yoga philosophy nationally. A former swami in the Vedic tradition, she writes the “Wisdom” column for Yoga Journal and is the author of The Heart of Meditation: Pathways to a Deeper Experience. See pages 6, 7, 8, 12, 16, 19, and 20.

Brent Kessel is cofounder of Abacus portfolios, a portfolio management company offering socially responsible investing while providing holistic financial advice. Brent earned his economics degree from UClA and studies psychology, meditation, and Ashtanga Yoga. He is Yoga Journal’s money columnist and author of It’s Not About the Money. See pages 10 and 15.

Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa is director of golden Bridge in los Angeles, where she teaches Kundalini Yoga and meditation. A yoga teacher for more than 30 years, she is the author of The Eight Human Talents and Bountiful, Beautiful, Blissful: A Spiritual Path to Pregnancy and Birthing and the creator of three dVds on Kundalini Yoga and pre- and postnatal yoga. See pages 9, 14, 15, 18, and 19.

Judith Hanson Lasater is president of the California Yoga Teachers Association and cofounder of Yoga Journal. A yoga teacher since 1971 and a practicing physical therapist, she holds a ph.d. in East-West psychology and is the author of Living Your Yoga: Finding the Spiritual in Everyday Life. See pages 9, 12, 16, and 21.

Tias Little has been a student of Iyengar Yoga since 1985. He has studied Ashtanga vinyasa yoga in Mysore and is a student in the dzogchen practice of Vajrayana Buddhism. He is trained in massage and cranial-sacral therapy, and has studied extensively with Tom Myers in Anatomy Trains. Tias has been studying trauma and recovery through somatic Experiencing since 2006. See pages 9, 15, 18, 19, and 21.

Jason Magness is cofounder of slackline Yoga, an AcroYoga teacher, and an advanced Ashtanga practitioner. He is also an accomplished ultraendurance athlete, rock climber, expedition adventure racer, and environmental activist. Jason has studied with yoga masters, including sri K. pattabhi Jois, B.K.s. Iyengar, Matthew sweeney, and Anne nowell. See pages 11, 12, 15, 19, and 21.

Elise Miller, a senior certified Iyengar Yoga teacher, has been teaching yoga since 1976. A founding director of the California Yoga Center in Mountain View, CA, and faculty member at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of san Francisco, she specializes in back and sports-related injuries and has written about topics such as scoliosis for Yoga Journal. See pages 9, 12, 15, 16, and 18.

Lisa Black is a senior Baptiste-certified yoga instructor. owner/director of two sHAKTI Vinyasa Yoga studios in seattle, lisa trains teachers and leads classes, workshops, and retreats. lisa’s passion for yoga, enthusiasm for teaching, and compassion for people are evident in her lighthearted, supportive power Vinyasa classes. See pages 13, 14, 17, and 21.

Kofi Busia is one of the world’s foremost teachers in the Iyengar tradition. He has studied directly with B.K.s. Iyengar at the ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in pune and has held his advanced certificate for over 35 years. Kofi is based in santa Cruz, CA, where he is currently working on two books, one on patanjali’s Yoga sutra and the other on yoga and fertility. See pages 13, 14, 17, and 18.

Roger Cole, an accomplished scientist and internationally recognized Iyengar teacher, specializes in the anatomy and physiology of yoga, relaxation, sleep, and biological rhythms. He’s renowned for an ability to give clear explanations of complex concepts and translate them into effective actions, on and off the mat. See pages 12, 13, 16, 20, and 21.

Seane Corn’s classes are a fusion of various healing and spiritual modalities, making them intuitive, insightful, and uplifting. Featured in commercials and magazines and named the national Yoga Ambassador for YouthAIds, seane utilizes her national platform to bring awareness to the HIV/AIds crisis through her “off the Mat, Into the World” campaign. See pages 9, 13, 16, 17, and 21.

Jason Crandell, one of san Francisco’s most respected and popular yoga teachers, is yoga director at the san Francisco Bay Club, writes extensively for Yoga Journal and has taught the Yoga Journal staff for six years. He’s known for strong, fluid sessions that leave students feeling clear, grounded, and content. See pages 9, 12, 13, 14, 18, and 21.

Fred DeVito cofounded exhale’s Core Fusion brand, classes, and teacher training programs. He directs the Core Fusion program and teacher training academy, and leads workshops on core conditioning nationally. He serves on the board of exhalesoul, exhale’s not-for-profit charity organization. See pages 18 and 19.

John Douillard is an Ayurvedic and chiropractic physician who has taught Ayurvedic medicine, natural health, fitness, and nutrition internationally for 21 years. He is also author of The 3-Season Diet; Body, Mind, and Sport; and three Ayurveda dVds on stress, detox, and weight loss. He currently directs the lifespa Ayurvedic retreat Center in Boulder. See pages 14, 16, 19, and 20.

Richard Freeman has practiced yoga and meditation since 1968 and has extensively studied the Ashtanga vinyasa yoga of sri K. pattabhi Jois. He is founding director of the Yoga Workshop in Boulder. See pages 11, 13, 16, 19, and 20.

Michelle synnestvedt. in addition to these fantastic yoga teachers, the Gathering will

include internationally renowned tantric scholars douglas Brooks, sally Kempton, and

Each day, the Gathering will feature a master class with John Friend, inspiring

philosophical talks by the Anusara scholars, early morning meditations, break-out

classes with senior Anusara Yoga teachers, live music by shantala (Benjy and Heather

Wertheimer) and special Guests, and evening entertainment.

Aadil Palkhivala began studying with B.K.s. Iyengar at age 7 and received an advanced teacher’s certificate at 22. devoted to sri Aurobindo’s yoga, he is founder of purna Yoga and founder-director of Yoga Centers in Bellevue, WA. He’s also a naturopath and Ayurvedic practitioner, and holds degrees in law, physics, and mathematics. See pages 9, 15, 16, 19, and 20.

Deva Premal and Miten are living proof that mantras are as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago. With over half a million Cds sold worldwide and regular performances across north America, Asia, Europe, and Australia, this couple—in both life and music—have touched the hearts of millions of seekers throughout the world. See pages 17 and 19.

Ross Rayburn has been a certified Anusara Yoga teacher since 2003. His classes are known for their clarity in the principles of Anusara woven into a challenging practice that seeks to connect all levels of students to their highest potential. ross lives in los Angeles and teaches his fun and inspiring classes to students around the world. See pages 6, 7, 14, and 15.

Saul David Raye’s teaching draws on the depth of the yoga tradition, Ayurveda, Tantra, and all forms of universal light, love, and wisdom. He holds certifications in yoga, bodywork, and energy healing, and is a musician who infuses his classes with healing music. saul is a cofounder of shanti House lA, a los Angeles nonprofit providing food and healing services in the local community. See pages 14, 17, 18, and 20.

Shiva Rea teaches vinyasa flow worldwide and has led more than 60 retreats throughout Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean. Her studies in the Krishnamacharya lineage, Tantra, Ayurveda, and art infuse her approach to living yoga. she is a regular contributor to Yoga Journal and lives with her family in los Angeles. See pages 9, 14, 17, 19, and 20.

Desirée Rumbaugh is a senior certified Anusara Yoga teacher. Her worldwide workshops and retreats aim for powerful personal transformation and self-expression, leading each student to celebrate his or her own creative power through asana practice. See pages 6, 7, 8, 9, 15, 18, and 19.

Dinabandhu Sarley, CEo of Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, spent 32 years as a teacher and leader in the fields of yoga, spirituality, and human development. A former faculty member and president of the omega Institute for Holistic studies, he is a founding member of Kripalu Center and a senior Kripalu teacher. See pages 17, 19, 20, and 21.

Sianna Sherman is an internationally recognized, certified Anusara Yoga teacher who had the great blessing of meeting John Friend in 1995. recently named as one of 21 talented young teachers shaping the future of yoga, sianna playfully weaves alignment, therapeutics, and creative sequencing with stories, poetry, and Tantric philosophy, which embraces the fullness of life. See pages 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 14, 17, 18, and 21.

Rod Stryker is the founder of paraYoga. one of the country’s leading Tantra Yoga and meditation teachers, rod is one of a few teachers transmitting an ancient, living tradition that has been shared from teacher to student for thousands of years. rod leads trainings, workshops, and retreats worldwide. See pages 10, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 20.

David Swenson made his first trip to Mysore in 1977, learning the full Ashtanga system as originally taught by sri K. pattabhi Jois. He is recognized today as one of the world’s foremost practitioners and instructors of Ashtanga Yoga and has produced numerous videos, dVds, and the book Ashtanga Yoga: The Practice Manual. See pages 10, 11, 14, 15, 18, and 21.

Rodney Yee, who has been practicing yoga for 27 years and teaching for 23, got his foundation from Iyengar Yoga. He continues his studies together with his wife, Colleen saidman. Thirty dVds and two books later, he has turned his yoga passion towards health care by co-chairing the Urban Zen Health and Wellness Foundation, founded by donna Karan. Denise Benitez and Betsey Downing The Magic of Embodying a Theme and staying Inspired as a Teacher

One special aspect of an Anusara Yoga class is that the deeper meaning of yoga is incorporated into the pose instructions, so the students leave the class feeling empowered, uplifted, and inspired. Fees are listed on the registration form on the opposite page. Classes fill on a first-come, first-served basis. payment in full must accompany registration. registration forms must be postmarked by the deadlines listed in order to qualify for discounts.

Session SelectionsCourse codes appear at the end of each course description. When registering by fax or mail, you must indicate a first, second, and third choice for each session. We recommend online registration at yjevents.com, where second and third choices are not required. A confirmation letter will be emailed to you immediately after your registration is processed.

Refunds and CancellationsAll cancellations must be made in writing to horizon Conferences, 1107 pearl street, Boulder, Co 80302, or via email to [email protected]. You will receive an email confirming receipt of your cancellation; keep this confirmation of your cancellation. Cancellations received on or before August 29, 2008, will be issued a refund, minus a $100 processing fee. All requests for refunds must acknowledge an understanding of the $100 processing fee. Cancellations received after August 29, 2008, will not receive a refund but may be under consideration for a voucher toward a future Yoga Journal conference, valid for one year, minus a $100 processing fee. Last-minute cancellations must be received via email before your first scheduled class in order to be considered for a voucher. All voucher consideration will be completed after the conference, and all supporting documentation for voucher requests must be received by october 6, 2008. no refund or voucher will be given for no-shows.

Class Changesthere is a $10 fee for each class change made after registration.

Yoga Gear and PropsWe strongly suggest that you bring a yoga mat, blanket, and strap. See course descriptions for other required items. Some of these items may also be available for sale on-site during limited marketplace hours.

Lodging, Travel, and Meal Informationthe conference will be held at the Estes park Center YMCA of the rockies in Estes park, Co, located 70 miles northwest of Denver and 40 miles from Boulder. Lodging at the YMCA of the rockies is limited. Be sure to make your accommodation reservations early. We encourage participants to stay at the YMCA in order to receive the full benefits of the conference.

All lodging, grounds fees, and meals need to be booked directly with the YMCA using the link online at yjevents.com. they do not accept phone reservations, but you may call for general information at 970-586-3341, ext. 1021.

single guest rooms are limited. We encourage you to request a roommate on the lodging request form. if you and other guests are requesting to room together, please have all attendees note it on their forms.

the YMCA offers a wide range of accommodations to suit every budget. prices range from $49.80 per person per night for a shared room (5 to a room) and up to $165 per person per night for a single room, including three vegetarian, cafeteria-style meals per day. Meals begin with dinner the day of arrival and end with lunch the day of departure.

the YMCA has a limited number of cabins available for the week. please call 970-586-3341, ext. 1010, for availability information. Meals are not included with cabin reservations.

if you are not staying on the grounds of the YMCA, there is a conference and membership fee that must be paid in advance. the fee is $10 per person per day to come onto the YMCA grounds and attend seminars in the meeting facilities. if you are staying off grounds or in cabins, you must fill out the section on meals and grounds fees on the housing form and return it to the YMCA with your payment.
