In boxing it is really fun. The

place I go for boxing is Electric City

Boxing Club (ECBC). The first thing

you do is you have to run around

the Expo Park. The age you have to

be is 6+. Another thing is you get to

go on trips to go fight. Like Idaho,

Missouri, and even Great Falls. But in

order to go in trips, you have to work

really hard. After the run, you come

back to hit the bags. When you hit

the bags, you have to have gloves

on. After everyone comes back

from the run, we get on the mat.

When we get on the mat we have to

do stuff like sit-up’s, push-up’s, and

jumping jacks. We train 2 hours for 5

days. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednes-

days, Thursdays, and Saturdays. I

like where I work out at Electric City

handed catches. Jerry Rice is known for

one handed catches, but in my opinion,

he is better than Odell Beckam Jr. He was

named the best football player ever, and

Jerry has been to the Pro Bowl 13 Times.

Not only has he has won three Super Bowl

What lead Mrs. Helmer into teaching?

In high school, she had had a class in which

she could go help preschoolers. She has been

teaching for 8 years in 5 different schools. She

finds many things other things rewarding

about her job, and more is rewarding each

year of her career. Her most memorable stu-

dent was a first boy that lived in a home. He

always came to schoo, and ready to learn.

Mrs. Helmer has learned that in the

classroom, everyone’s circumstances are dif-

ferent. She thinks the hardest part in the edu-

cation system is knowing that each student

learns differently and adapting to that. In her

career, Mrs. Helmer has struggled watching

teachers required to teach an enormous

amount in an unrealistic amount of time.

Evan Blalock’s Spelling Adventure

(Longfellow Elementary)

On March 1st I went to the City Spelling Bee at West Elementary School. A spelling bee is where kids that are gifted in spelling go to compete with other kids that are gifted in spelling. I was one of the two kids that got to go there from Longfellow Elementary because I got elected for the School spelling bee and got first place. There were fifty kids there some in 5th some in 6th some in 7th and even some in 8th grade. I got to the 2nd round, the word I got in the first round was broadleaf and the word I got out on was geoponics.

My Friend the

Mr. Johnson’s favorite teacher was his high

school math teacher, who made a big im-

pression on him. (He is also his favorite per-

Jim Johnson also ran the Olympic torch in

1999 and 2002. He was nominated by 2 gals

he saved from the Grand Canyon when they

were lost. Chevy was sponsoring the Olym-

His perfect day in the winter is nice snow for

cross country skiing with a little bit of sun. In

the summer he likes digging crystals with little

kids. In the fall it is a beautiful day hunting. His

goal is to run 100k by the time he is 75. He is

at 87k.

If he could go anywhere in the world He

would go to Machu Pichu because he likes

ancient American civilizations. He got inter-

The Iditarod is a race with husky dogs in Alaska. It started on Satur-day March 5th, 2016. There were 85 partici-pants from vari-ous places. The race trail is in Alaska; it’s 1150 miles long. I think something

that’s cool is that the word Iditarod means clear water and was named by the Swagelok Indians. The race is held annually near An-chorage, Alaska.

NOME, Alaska – Dallas Seavey won his third

straight Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race early Tues-

day morning, crossing under the burled arch

on Front Street in Nome for his fourth overall

title in the last five years.

Seavey completed the nearly 1,000-mile race

in a record time of 8 days, 11 hours, 20 minutes,

16 seconds. He arrived in Nome at 2:20 a.m.

He said at the finish that he spent the first two-

thirds of the race "dead on my feet" and had

never been so tired.

"This was a heck of a trip, all the way from the

start. It was up and down," Seavey said. "But

we made it work."

The Iditarod started March 6 in Willow, about

50 miles north of Anchorage, and took mushers

across two mountain ranges, down the mighty

Yukon River and along the wind-scoured Ber-

ing Sea coast.

Eighty-five mushers began the race, but 12

have so far scratched, including four-time

champion Lance Mackey. He dropped out

Monday, citing personal health concerns.

The Iditarod had its ceremonial start March 5 in

Anchorage despite a lack of snow this winter in

Alaska's largest city. About seven train car

loads of snow were shipped from Fairbanks,

but ultimately were not used.

Seavey's record time beat the old record he

set in 2014 of 8 days, 13 hours, 4 minutes, 19

seconds. His only loss in his Iditarod racing ca-

reer was to his father, Mitch Seavey, who won

in 2013.

THE LORAX:

MOVIE vs. BOOK

The movie

THE LORAX is

based on a fic-

tional book by Dr.

part of the book was when the

Once-ler said to the boy,

“UNLESS someone like you ca-

res an awful lot, nothing is go-

ing to get better. It’s work.” (I

really like that quote).

The best part of the

movie was when the Once-ler

gave all of the animals marsh-

The book and the movie

were different because the

movie had a huge name and

and Thneedville where it is for-

bidden to leave the city to go

you can just go to the Onceler.

I prefer the movie be-

cause it has a lot of singing

I recommend this movie to

Chickens By Addi Mickelsen, Mountain

View Grade 5

Chickens are all over

the world. They come in all

shapes and sizes. But, did

you know the chickens sleep

with one eye open? Or the some farmers give hens bro-

ken seashells to help hens lay eggs with strong shells? In

this article I will tell you lots of fun information about

chickens.

There are hundreds of different types of breeds

of chickens all over the world. One type of chicken is

called a Leghorn. Leghorns have white feathers and are

kept for their eggs. Other chickens, such as Bantams,

are kept just for a pet. Some chickens are kept for their

pretty feathers that are strong colors. One of those

chickens is called Polish Crested Chickens.

As you know, most chickens are kept at farms.

But, on an island called Kauai, there are wild chickens

all over the island. Almost everywhere you look there is a

chicken. Some chickens are free range chickens. These

chickens are released in the day, and at night they

come back to their coop to sleep.

Did you know that chickens don’t have any

teeth? So, what can they eat? Chickens eat small

pieces of food; they also swallow it whole. Chickens on

a farm eat feed, which is made out of grains like wheat

and barley. They also eat wheat. To them it’s grains of

goodness. Sometimes chickens eat grass and scratch

the ground for bugs.

Why do we farm chickens? Some chickens are

called layers. Layers will lay eggs to be eaten. Some of

the eggs will become chicks. Other chickens will be-

come broilers. Broiler chickens are grown for their meat.

Poultry farmers collect fertilized eggs. They keep them in

a hatchery. A hatchery is a warm place where eggs

can be hatched. A few days after the chicks hatch,

they are sorted into these two groups.

Hens start to lay eggs when they are around 5

months old. Hens can lay up

to 300 eggs a year. For an egg

to be fertilized [or grow a

chick], a hen must mate with

a rooster.

In my opinion, chick-

ens are awesome. I hope

someday I will get chickens!

THE INVENTION OF POTATO CHIPS

~by Mountain View Third Graders

(Team Leader- Cooper Lieby)

Once upon a time the world only had

lucky charms. They didn’t have any food, they

just had lucky charms. The leprechauns de-

manded more food, but one day someone

suggested potatoes. He saw a leprechaun

wandering about and went up to him and

asked, “Where do you find potatoes?” So the

leprechaun said, “It’s at a place where the

king of all potatoes is and he’s big, fat, and

mean”. So the king would not give any pota-

toes away. One person that wanted more

food snuck in to the king’s castle and stole po-

tatoes. He brought them back to the others

and they ate and ate until they ran out of po-

tatoes.

They looked all over the land; they

could not find any potatoes. A little boy was

farming and he saw a little oval shape thing

lying in the weeds. So he ran up to it and he

could not believe what it was. It was a potato!

So he planted the potato. Then they had 1,

000,000,000,000,000,000,000 potatoes! But one

leprechaun got tired of potatoes, so he cut

them very thin and

fried them. He had

invented the PO-

TATO CHIP.

Ever since

people found out

about potato chips,

it’s all anyone would

eat. Everyone got

fat from potato

chips. Even so, their

favorite flavor was

Lucky Charm potato

chips.
