Trimble VISION technology integrates calibrated digital cameras with Trimble S6 and S8 total stations, and the Trimble VX™ Spatial Station. These instruments have the ability to collect survey data, stream video from the perspective of the instrument, and capture panoramic still images. Trimble Access™ fi eld software overlays survey data on the streaming video, which enhances the surveyor’s fi eld productivity when operating the instrument robotically. Trimble Business Center offi ce software overlays survey data on the captured panoramic still images, enabling the surveyor to effi ciently document features that were surveyed. Trimble Business Center also enables the surveyor to make terrestrial photogrammetric observations and compute point coordinates using the Trimble VISION images. Trimble VISION photogrammetry is a survey tool that precisely measures points which were previously time-consuming, dangerous, or impossible to collect using other techniques.

Since Trimble VISION enables surveying instrument control from a remote location, and this feature is built into ESP’s Trimble S8 Robotic Total Stations, the fi rm was able to quickly take advantage of the improved workfl ow. In the past, the company would send a surveyor into the fi eld to collect data, often requiring multiple trips. Now, ESP sends a technician out to set up the S8, while a surveyor in the offi ce views what the instrument is seeing on screen, and controls the measuring process. The end result is dramatic. The typical job gets completed faster without any back and forth fi eld trips, and the surveyor is able to get more done because there is no travel time involved. It’s a true win-win for ESP and its customers.
