HAVE YOU REMEMBERED IHM IN YOUR WILL? After the needs of your loved ones have been addressed, a charitable bequest to your parish will allow you to continue in perpetuity the Christian stewardship you practice in life. The Catholic Foundation of North Georgia can assist you in re-membering IHM in your Last Will and Testament. Those who make a bequest or a planned gift to the parish become members of the parish Legacy Society and the Archdiocesan Deo Gratias Society. For more information, contact Juliette Greco of the Catholic Foundation of North Georgia at [email protected] or 404-497-9440.

One lesson quickly learned by our Vincentians: the poor are to be found every-where in our midst and they may not speak English. The ability to relate to a fami-ly in their own language forms an immediate bridge to understanding and support. Fortunately, our IHM Conference has 7 bilingual Vincentians able to converse directly with those in need. 2 more are in training now. Plus, we are blessed to have 5 bilingual interpreters who can accompany on home visitations for support. A recent situation demonstrates this principle in action.

The Mother and two daughters, aged 6 and 8 were homeless after a sister threw them out. She had only been in our area for a few months after her husband was deported. Our bilingual Vincentians visited with her and were quickly able to get them shelter.

But our support did not end there. In a few months, she reached out again. She had been desperately forced to move again due to violence in the complex where she was staying. She feared for her daughter’s safety. The Vincentians met with her again and worked out a plan to keep her in the second apartment long enough for her to find some part time employment and get stabilized. Over these several months, we provided significant support well above our normal guidelines in order to assure her peace of mind and safety.

Thanks to our generous IHM parishioners, St. Vincent de Paul was able to quickly assist this family and support them as they become established in our community. Being able to speak her language was one of the keys to success.

If a parishioner needs help, they can call 678-892-6163. If you would like more information about volunteering with St. Vincent DePaul, reach out to Mike Gross at [email protected].
